Booked meal for friday evening, put in the corner of the bar not in the restaurant where we had been before. Waited a long time to be served, think they forgot about us as we were the only people eating in the bar and it was busy so we got pushed further into the corner. Not keen to go back.

A superb dinner experience in every respect. The food was outstanding and service exceptional. The choice whilst not enormous was sufficiently varied, very appealing and well balanced. The atmosphere was cordial and the staff very welcoming and highly professional. They could not do enough for us. Woods is the place to go and I cannot recommend it highly enough. We had a wonderful evening. If you want a high quality memorable meal then make sure you book early as it is very busy - unsurprisingly.

Went here for my birthday dinner and I cannot remember the last time I ate 3 courses. Starter I had scallops and they were delicious, main course chicken with black pudding, again absolutely delicious. Desert I had the lemon posset and the coconut sorbet was the best sorbet I have ever had. The men had steaks and we could not fault the food at all. The staff were lovely and the atmosphere so relaxed. You definitely need to book, for a Tuesday it was very busy. Not cheap but worth every penny.

5 out of 5 really doesn’t do justice to how amazing this place is. We just happened to be passing through, so just wanted a place for dinner. As it turns out, we now need to engineer an excuse to come back. The food is exceptional. Local produce and a chef with real talent and flair puts every dish into the stratosphere. Then there’s a wine list that reflects the owner’s interest and passion for such things. It’s part of the little details that we really appreciate. Apart from the food and wine, the atmosphere of the place stands out too. Great understated decor (rustic but beautifully crafted by the owner), an interesting local buzz, and somewhere that welcomes canine friends. We absolutely loved it. A huge thanks to the chef and the owner for making a special memory. We hope to meet you again.

I've worked my way through most of Woods' 'mains', so opted for two 'starters' - salmon rillette, then duck liver parfait (get the full works off their website). A concentrated chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream to follow; and to drink, a lovely complex Noelia Bebelia Albarino (for which you'd pay at least 50 quid in most other places with the now usual 3x mark-up, but not here). Some slightly soggy (to my taste) chips were immediately replaced with the crispest of fries. Woods seems to have abandoned their previous policy of making most wines under £100 available by the glass. Otherwise, Paddy and co have got it absolutely right. My wife is a fan too..

We went for lunch while staying near Dulverton, and both ordered the seabass dish. It was delicious and beautifully served. The wine by the glass was also excellent; both red and white. The sorbets I had for dessert water fantastic - blackberry is an unusual flavour to have as sorbet. The only diner was the cheese board was well over-priced at £9 for only 4 small pieces of cheese. It would have been ok at £5, but was rather meagre compared to most cheeseboards we've ordered elsewhere. We would go again. I've rated service as very good because the waitress was friendly and helpful, but it was rather slow - they were very busy; maybe a COVID effect. Fortunately we had time.

Whilst the staff all wore masks , a gentleman (the owner?) with longish grey hair visited almost all the tables (except ours!!!!) taking orders and serving...without any mask or shield. Great to be back in Woods again after its lockdown closure. The personal protection measures in place were discreet but reassuring. I had a perfectly cooked lamb shank and my partner a big and juicy lamb-burger. A shared Eton Mess to follow. A great lunch but two small niggles: one, we've had crisper chips before at Woods (we mentioned this to the waitress); and two, if you have a fabulous wine-list, as Woods does, the wine glasses should be large enough to do the wine justice. But Woods remains the best place to eat and drink for miles around.

We shared a started of foie gras and onion marmalade - which was pleasant. I then had the plaice with walnut and shrimp crusting. The fish was nicely cooked and moist, the topping was nice but could have done with a little more and maybe just crisped up a bit to give a crunchier texture above the fish but having said that very pleasant, chips were great. One of our group had the guinea fowl and it was really delicious beautifully cooked tender and accompanied by fondant potatoes and a little leg rissole. We had not been to Woods before but will certainly go again. Extremely tasty, perfectly cooked and lovely friendly service. Super fires and a marvellous, relaxed atmosphere.

Monday evening, table for two, attentive and friendly staff, bottle of excellent Chablis (good value too), scallops with sprout leaves and chestnuts too good to be true, superb main courses (hake and pork) and genuine ambiance - can’t fault it (again). Wish I lived in Dulverton....

My friend and I met for a very enjoyable lunch at Woods. I have never been before but had heard of many people visiting it. It is really like the best traditional pub combined with a restaurant that really works well for everyone. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. Lots of cosy nooks and crannies to sit and chat and eat. Nice selections of wine by the glass. We both had two starters but the menu was varied and interesting. I started with smoked salmon and eel which was generous and delicious and simply displayed. The second starter was a foie gras style dish - it was pleasant and was accompanied by nicely toasted sourdough and a pleasant chutney. Tea afterwards were accompanied by little mince pies. The staff were great and altogether a very relaxing and homely, satisfying experience!

Called in and had a really good Sunday lunch. I had pork which was really good. Three slices of meat, roasters, parsnips, green beans, carrots, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding and plenty of gravy. A good selection of ales too. Really nice.

Our 5th year of living in Dulverton and our 5th year of attending the Beaujolais Nouveau event. For this event, they are open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (apparently, some people book for all 3!). The chefs here are always great, we have never had a bad meal here but they go mad for this day! The menu must take them ages to put together let alone prepare. Everything has a strong French influence but using amazing fresh, local produce wherever possible. We both ordered the French onion soup which was remarkable, I can only imagine the time needed to get that depth of flavour. Although we knew we had ordered a large main meal, we couldn't help but also order a bowl of French fries with French cheese and grated winter truffle - Oh my goodness!! Wish these were always on the menu! We enjoyed a glass of Beaujolais when we first arrived (remarkably good this year) then took Paddy the owners recommendation for wine with our meal once we had ordered. Wow! Highly recommend asking for advice about wine choices. We are not complete novices but we are always blown away by Paddy's interpretation of the type of wines we like and the food we have ordered. He never fails to exceed our hopes and deliver a stunning wine no matter what the price bracket. As ever, Paddy's waiting and bar staff are utterly delightful and just add to a very special evening.

We live only 20 minutes drive away form here in the Exmoor National Park and have visited here before although I have not reviewed to before. Everyone of our visits has been a delightful dining experience which attests to the consistency. Staff are knowledgable, welcoming and helpful. There is a lovely character and ambience to this place and the style is unhurried; all of which adds to the dining experience of lingering over fresh, lovely and seasonal food. Good choices of fish, meat and vegetarian on the dinner menu which normally features 5 choices on each of starters, mains and puddings. There is an extensive wine list run by a knowledgeable owner and any of the wines can be ordered by the glass as well as bottle on a pro-rata price basis. We have booked here for celebratory occasions and never been let down. Strongly recommended. There are nearby car parks in the village which are free after 6pm.

Good welcome, full/busy, friendly atmosphere; smoked salmon & smoked eel beautifully presented, Foie gras parfait with pickled mushrooms and toasted brioche - melt in the mouth loveliness, mushrooms a great compliment to the pate. Wild mushroom spaghetti with summer truffle, gave a subtle richness on the back of the mouth; mussels were very delicate in their sauce of blackbean, soy and ginger. Very very good.

We were impressed by the food and the atmosphere at The Woods restaurant in Dulverton. Our three couples enjoyed a delicious meal in the cozy and thoughtfully decorated restaurant. It’s a busy place frequented by locals as well as tourists so a reservation is a safe bet. Our group chose from lamb, trout, sea bass and linguine. All were presented hot and delicious. Our Thursday night dinner found a packed house with the owner entertaining guests at a large gathering table. This is a can’t miss place for fine dining in the enchanting village of Dulverton.

Fortunate to be recommended by our B&B; host to eat here whilst en route to Cornwall. Would go so far as to say this was best pub/restaurant meal we've had in a very long time. Good menu choices, everything prepared spot on.

Had a Sunday carvery at the end of my daughters hen weekend. The food was great and the service outstanding. The manager couldn't have done more to accommodate us. It really was the best was to finish the weekend. Thank you so much, will definitely be in again when next in the area.

I have now reached the 56 year mark and after the time I have had since April I value every day far more than I did and take each day as it comes and expect to be taken as I am by others. In all my visits to Exmoor with my parents when I was growing up and when I returned back down with my lovely wife and various dogs over the years we have never been in the White Horse. As we were staying at Court Farm in Snowdrop we took the chance on a filthy night to venture in to the bar at the White Horse. I really liked the set up=looked like church or chapel pews and plenty of country pictures and items on the walls-how it should be. The gentleman serving says Mark on the receipt was a lovely gent pleasant and hosting without any airs or graces-helpful and considerate. Meal wise we had One Trout in Almonds served with new potatoes and seasonal veg well cooked and well presented and One Flat Iron Steak cooked medium which again was very well cooked and well presented. Managed one sticky toffee pudding and one raspberry brulee washed down with Guiness and Exmoor ale, the waiting staff were pleasant and effecient and the chef has an odd sense of humour but having come from that background I enjoyed that. Excellent meal in wonderful surroundings
