Woodman in Swansea

Very dog friendly! Our waitress Jo was brilliant and brought a dinner for our dog too! Food and atmosphere lovely for a dog friendly Sunday roast.

Once again had an enjoyable meal here (16.5.25). The food was all lovely as usual. Our waitress Laura was really good and very patient with us all (there were 11 in our party). They had a special menu for gluten-free and also one for lactose. The management were also friendly, lovely people who made us feel very welcome.

Went with a partner, midweek meal about 7-45 pm. All I know is this place used to be great, meals were always tasty, value for money and it seemed like the kitchen staff cared. My experience this week was far from that. I ordered the signature burger which was ok (saying it was ok I did pay £17 for a burger which isn’t exactly cheap,) but on the plate was just the burger and about a size. Over cooked chips. Yes I was disappointed, a burger and a dozen chips was it, no onion rings, salad, peas, just a burger and a very small portion of overdone chips. Added to that even though the restaurant was very quiet, after ordering we then had to wait about 30 minutes for the food. Maybe they were looking for some salad or peas or onion rings to put on the plate? Who knows. Poor from The Woodman and I won’t be rushing back anytime soon.

Food was good large sunday dinner for £18. Sat us near toilets and dog friendly if we knew this we wouldn't have gone.

Exceptional service from Jo today, both friendly and efficient. Drinks and food order taken quickly, and food arrived within 10 minutes. Beef Sunday lunches with extra cauliflower cheese were delicious. Clean plates all round. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Visited this pub as a group of seniors for a lunch having booked a table. We ordered our food from the main and the special menu and waited nearly an hour for the meal to arrive despite a couple of reminders. When the food arrived, personally my meal was fine. I had the pork belly. Some of the other party’s food was not at all as they had ordered or what had been on the menu? They did complain but were told that was the meal that matched the menu. In fairness to them they did not charge for the meals that were incorrect. We have frequented this place on occasions previously, but I’m sure we will not be back.

We went in for a couple of sandwiches for lunch, and after almost 1h we were still waiting for our food. During a word day that kind of wait is basically out entire lunch.

Excellent food, staff very welcoming and friendly, premises dog friendly (our pup was given his own bowl of water and a small plate of turkey!) would highly recommend!

Aunque The Woodman no es un asador tradicional, nos dijeron que sus filetes eran excelentes, así que reservamos una mesa para 10 con mucho más de un mes de antelación y solicitamos estar sentados en el conservatorio. Más tarde nos contactaron e informaron que el conservatorio no acomodaría a nuestro grupo y nos ofrecieron un área más aislada unos pasos cerca del bar. Estuvimos de acuerdo, confiando en la recomendación. Sin embargo, al llegar, vimos por nosotros mismos que el conservatorio podría haber sentado cómodamente nuestra fiesta, nuestra primera decepción de la noche. Tampoco estábamos sentados en la zona apartada que nos habían prometido. Cuando hablamos de esto con un miembro del personal, nos encontramos con una respuesta cortante: “Esta es tu mesa, te he puesto donde dice en las notas.” Sin disculpas, sin explicaciones, segunda decepción. Afortunadamente, ese miembro del personal no nos atendió más, y una camarera mucho más amable se hizo cargo. Habíamos revisado el menú en línea anteriormente y la mayoría de nuestra fiesta había elegido hongos de ajo para empezar. Luego nos dijeron que no estaban disponibles debido a una entrega perdida, nuestra tercera decepción. Para empeorar las cosas, mi hija, recuperándose de una cirugía dental, había elegido la sopa, solo para que le dijeran que tampoco estaba disponible. Cuarta decepción. Después de una lucha para elegir nuevos entrantes, finalmente pedimos nuestro mains — 7 filetes en total. La camarera tomó cuidadosamente y repitió las preferencias de hacer, lo que nos dio esperanza. Llegaron entrantes y en realidad fueron muy buenos (aunque todavía nos perdimos esas setas de ajo). Pero una vez despejados los platos, comenzó una larga y silenciosa espera. Esperamos más de una hora por nuestra red, sin actualizaciones, sin disculpas, y tuvimos que pedir que nos limpiaran las gafas nosotros mismos. Decepcionante de nuevo. Cuando llegaron las tuberías, la calidad era desafortunadamente inferior a la par. Otros tres, cuya médium se solicitó, estaban bien hechos. La carne de cerdo estaba seca y tenía un sabor recalentado. El plato de pasta, anunciado como picante, era soso, y una olla solicitada de salsa crema llegó como salsa de tomate espesa en su lugar. Esto fue al menos corregido una vez planteado. Quería abordar estos temas en su momento, pero mi hijo me pidió que no causara alboroto en su día especial. Cuando llegó la factura, me sorprendió realmente el precio considerando el nivel de servicio y la calidad de los alimentos que recibimos. Staff lovely, food ok, service terrible. We visited the pub on three consecutive nights as we were staying nearby on holiday. Booked a table for 4 persons each night using the app which was very easy to do. Good atmosphere in the pub each night and all the staff were friendly and welcoming, particularly the American sounding waitress on Thursday (first shift apparently) who was helpful and enthusiastic. The food overall was okay (no complaints here) but our biggest issue was the time it took to receive our food after ordering. Well in excess of an hour on the third night which was the quietest night of the three. The table of 4 next to ours, who ordered immediately before us had food within 20 minutes and had actually paid and left the pub before our food came out. No real apology or compensation offered for the delay. Appears to be a case of being understaffed both on the bar ( you can wait ages to be served as we did on all 3 nights) and the restaurant side. Having spent around £120 per night on food and drink, sadly tonight is the last time we shall visit despite being in the area for 2 more days. Also Chef and Brewer get a plumber into the gents toilets to sort out the leaking waste pipes on the urinals. It is not acceptable to have urine all over the floor and expect staff to put a yellow sandwich board out saying these toilets are being cleaned when clearly they are not.

Parked up beside the pub in our Campervan. Dog friendly, human friendly, gorgeous atmosphere and the food was great. Excellent

Great choice of gluten free food. Loved my Belly pork, the plate flavours were to die for. My friend had a bacon & cheese burger which was filling. Dog friendly and great staff.

The food was lovely, staff were friendly- only minor issue was that the kitchen team was understaffed and therefore we had to wait 1 hour for the food (but we were warned ahead of the wait).

What a lovely experience we had here. Stayed in an accommodation nearby and coincidentally stumbled upon here first for beer and secondly we came back for dinner. Staff were lovely and attentive. We were warned upon arrival that the food would take 45 minutes but we were all right with that… more time for drinks:) Food was lovely and classic pub food but everything was fresh and you could taste the quality. Bill came to around £100 for 6 people with a few pints and 4 main dishes. Would recommend everyone come to experience this great spot!

I visited the Woodman Pub, and let me tell you, it was a real wooden conundrum! The outdoor area was perfect, but we were told we woodn’t be allowed to eat outside because the “dog area” was fully booked—even though no dogs were around! I asked about eating inside, but the Woodman wood not allow dogs inside. So, we woodn’t eat outside, and we wood not eat inside. At this point, I woodn’t even know if the food was good because they woodn’t let us eat anywhere! The Woodman wood not let us enjoy a meal, no matter how much we tried. If they wood just figure out what they’re doing, I wood definitely return—but right now, it’s a wooden puzzle I woodn’t recommend solving!

A fantastic Mother's Day Lunch, everything was great from portion size to service, will be coming back soon.

Family visit to the Woodman where we were warmly greeted. Our waitress Jo was very pleasant and we thoroughly enjoyed the food.

Same great offer on two mains for twenty pounds again. No specials included today though? A lovely couple of hot meals and good real ale with great service, very full there today, too busy.

Visited The Woodman whilst staying in Mumbles. It's very welcoming for those with dogs. We were even given a small plate of carved Turkey offcuts for our dog which helped her stay calm during our visit. The staff were really attentive to our needs which made a refreshing change for us as our local Chef&Brewer pubs in Worcestershire are slack in this area of business. Highly recommend The Woodman. Thanks go to the staff.

Worst meal I had in a long time Chicken was so over cooked couldn't cut it with my knife Poor !!!? Why that came out of the kitchen I just don't understand!

We went here to watch the rugby before friends joining us for an evening meal. The area to watch the rugby is quite a small area but it was fine the day we went as not too busy. We moved from here into the resturant area and the staff were so friendly. The food was delicious and well presented, I had a gift voucher which I received from another Green King pub for a poor meal but The Woodman has given me faith to visit them again as outstanding customer care and food all Green King pubs should follow their lead.

Greene King chain - Middling reheated Greene King food sold for more expensive prices. Universally agreed to have gone downhill over time. West Cross Inn down the road is vastly superior, and plenty of other better local options.

We had some fantastic food here today. Lovely Sunday roast and a really nice beef burger. It was very busy but the service was still good.

Lovely old world restaurant/public house Full of atmosphere and with a warm cosy feel. Beautiful food and excellent staff. Open fire for cosy romantic evenings and after walks along the beach on blustery days blowing away the cob webs. In Summer it's great to enjoy the cool of the comfortable surroundings with a long refreshing drink away from the glare of the sun. A Gem of a Public House and Restaurant on the Mumbles road.

Sunday roast disappointing, 2 carrots and a teaspoon of cabbage if that, ordered a trio of meats no crackling for the pork although not informed tough beef. No one asked us if we'd like condiments. All around not worth the crazy amount of £17.99 for a roast with no veg? Staff were friendly

Attended for the annual Burns Night. Absolutely first rate. Amazing service, great food, great staff, bagpiper and MC. This is fast becoming a tradition for us. The only downside was absolutely ignorant customers that gathered around our table to video the piper and MC, totally blocking our view, despite telling then that we could see. Manners cost nothing. But pub wise, great courses with authentic ingredients. A must book event

Went for the Burns Night evening last week - very well priced & an interesting menu with vegetarian options. Starter was tasty (neeps & haggis) - two of the party had the soup but no rolls or soup spoons. Mains were very generous & tasty. Unfortunately think the staff forgot our puddings so they were a bit melted by the time we got them but tasty & well presented.

Food was very low standard. We had starters and all had different main meals, all were not that hot. Quality was very poor. Shame as the service was good. Response from the Woodman was they could have reheated the food. How is that going to improve the quality of the food. We will not be visiting again. So many wonderful pubs and restaurants to visit in the area, why would we.

Lovely place called in for a light lunch and it didn't disappoint staff were lovely and the pub had a lovely feel to it .

A great idea supplemented with a piper, some staff in kilts & tartan as well as the address to the haggis. The food was tasty although there were a few variations from the advertised menu: rocket replaced by pea shoots for the pheasant starter, losing the complementary pepper Ines as a result; the entire haggis course was barely two mouthfuls, underwhelming as the main event; The cranachan, which I was really looking forward to was devoid of 80% of its ingredients - whisky, honey raspberries and toasted pinhead oatmeal, instead the whipped cream being with granola and a small slice of strawberry - not cranachan at all. I expected to be stuffed after 4 courses, but wasn’t. The pub was full, and staff were very busy, so possibly food had to be stretched to feed more mouths, and perhaps I wasn’t feeling full as this led to a much more leisurely paced dinner with time in between courses to digest. Recipes are also most likely standardised by Chef & Brewer, so the Woodman was limited in making them more authentic. None the less the atmosphere and company made for an enjoyable evening.

Had our family Christmas get together here. Food came piping hot with excellent, friendly, professional staff! Highly recommend.

Lovely food here and mostly reasonable priced...

Unfortunately, this was disappointing. I had duo of chicken that came with rice, which was all clearly microwaved. The chicken was dry and hard to chew. Gutted as I have had a lovely meal here before. Will have to settle for Wetherspoons in future as their microwaved food is of higher quality.

The food was disappointing, as we have come here before and had exceptional food. The veggie burger was burnt on edges,but it was also very thick so this was a bonus. Is it a common theme here for food to arrive colder than a polar bear’s toes? It felt like it had been gently warmed over a single birthday candle straight from the North Pole. The gravy had all the charm of a bad hangover, the beef looked like it had gone twelve rounds with Mike Tyson and lost, and the veg… well, let’s just say I’ve seen more enthusiasm in a bowl of salad. The roast potatoes? Easily the worst I’ve had in 42 years of breathing—and I include airplane food in that list. Even the dog sniffed at it, gave me a look of betrayal, and walked away. It’s such a shame because the venue itself is lovely—super cozy—and the staff couldn’t have been friendlier if they tried. Hopefully, the chef can take some of the constructive criticism in these reviews and turn things around. Right now, it’s a diamond of a venue, but the food? Not so much. Let’s call it a coal.

Meeting a friend after a walk in Clyne . Had coffee which was very good. As we only drink black coffee we are very particular about where we meet up. It’s definitely the best coffee in and around Swansea and made exactly how we ask - which believe me is NOT the case in most venues. The Woodman is the ideal place to enjoy a Relaxing catch up with friends .

A regular haunt of ours. Disappointed that vouchers we got sent couldn't be used on specials...especially as we had previously checked and told only lampskank cottage pie and mixed grill were excluded. Got there to be told both our menu choices mixed seafood and mini beef Wellington were also excluded.

I posted a review back in Dec that I have now edited having gone back and had a stunning sunday lunch, with excellent service and lovely atmosphere. Thank you to the Woodman Team & management. I look forward to visiting again.

Waited over an hour for ordered food at our pre- booked table. When it arrived it was nice to look at but lukewarm and on cold plates, had it been hot and prompt it would have been okay. We gave up on bothering with pudding or coffee and went on elsewhere. I wanted to complain and ask for a discount but the person treating us didn't want to fuss and since it was their treat I couldn't insist. Rubbish, won't bother going back, nor recommending.

We are local and usually have family/friend celebrations at the woodman James and Emily always make us all welcome and check we are happy and the food drinks are great. My birthday is coming up as will be back again soon and had a wonderful festive family luncheon for 20 on 22 dec too. Will be rebooking for breakfast with Santa and festive luncheon with family again. Well done to all the team especially James and Emily

Lovely food and great staff Very dog friendly

Warm and friendly reception from the staff. Unfortunately the food wasn't as good as the service... garlic mushrooms didn't really taste of much, probably the least garlic tasting dish I've ever had. I had the Chefs Board as a main, as the pork wasn't available... it looked impressive but sadly it was more style over substance. I found the deep fried elements of the dish to be cold, chewie, and lacking in flavour... the honey and mustard sauce drizzled over the chipolatas was very tangy and personally I found it unpleasant... the garden patch houmous looked as if it was pre-made and had started to crust over (or it was left on the hotplate for too long), it was missing the sourdough shards promised on the menu, but as I wasn't risking the aged looking garden patch I didn't bother asking for the sourdough accompaniment. Although over cooked, the cottage pie croquettes were very nice... and the only element of the dish i managed to eat. My wife ordered the rump steak sandwich off the lunch menu... the steak was cooked perfectly, and the gravy was very nice, rich and flavoursome. Disappointing overall, I don't think I've ever eaten so little for the price we paid, and I can't ever remember sending so much food back on a plate to be thrown away.

We went for Christmas Day lunch. It was really lovely. Staff tried really hard to go the extra mile to accommodate a variety of needs within our group.

Had a lovely meal here on s Sunday lunchtime. Despite being busy the wait time and service were good. I had the beef rib Sunday lunch. I can't recommend it enough. Dog friendly areas with water bowls and blankets available for the dogs. It's a great place for walking either on the beach, seafront, or up the Clyne Valley. ❤️

Not great, the yorkshire puddings were flat pancakes and the service quite poor.

A very warm welcome and lovely Sunday lunch for a family of 4. The food was delicious. The service from Reece in particular was top class as well, nothing was too much trouble. A lovely afternoon.

Great venue, lots of parking. Zak, the barman, gave us excellent service.

Loved the Christmas dinner, soup and desert were lovely. Staff were kind and helped with things as there was over 30 people and all said it was really nice.

Every single time I have eaten with you has been wonderful. Always a warm welcome either when I've come alone or with Oscar. He loves the fuss and chicken you cook for him.

A quaint and warm atmosphere, with very attentive staff. All were very welcoming and helpful, and service was a very good speed. Only waited 10-15 minutes for food. Would completely recommend.

I didn't expect a fray bentos pie as a starter. The beef cheek, inside the pie, had the consistency of baby food. It was sitting in a puddle of congealed gravy with half a carrot for company. My partner ate the pie and I had his chicken terraine which half way through seemed to morph into mackerel pate. Anyway, that was quite palatable. I opted for Turkey. It might have started out life as turkey but I think it was pumped full of water and possibly flavour enhancing chemicals either during its life or following it's demise. Too dubious to eat.. I enjoyed the three sprouts and the parsnip. I ate my partners Yorkshire puddings and mine and these were absolutely amazing. The roast spuds were anaemic and floury. The stuffing thing was dry and inedible. I cook a lot at home and am lucky enough to afford organic meat and veg. If you're not fussy about your food and value quantity over quality then you would probably enjoy eating here. I had gone out for a social occasion so I wasn't expecting great food. I had a great night and enjoyed a glass of wine however, it took me a couple of days to recover from the ultra processed additives in the turkey.

It is really friendly here and everyone is kind. I’m glad it’s my local and I can’t wait to come back!

We use the Woodman as our occasional local for drinks but decided last night that we would have something to eat. Wow, we were both blown away by the fantastic Steak and Ale pie and amazing carrots, so full of flavour. The service is great so I cannot fault this place. Admittedly the drinks are pretty expensive but we go there for a nice quiet chat in the room up the stairs. Thanks go to the staff.

Seven of us ate at the Woodman when we were in Swansea visiting relatives. The staff were very accommodating of the dietary requirements (2 vegetarians, 1 vegan and little dog)! They couldn’t have done more for us. The food was excellent as was the service from Caitlin - she is a real credit to Chef & Brewer. Thank you.

My husband and I recently dined at The Woodman Swansea and were thoroughly impressed by the food. Every dish was full of flavours and beautifully presented. We had the festive menu. I had the turkey dinner, and my husband had the beef cheeks on mashed potato, the ingredients were fresh, and the seasoning was spot on. The roast potatoes were particularly delicious – a perfect blend of tastes and textures. The service was also excellent, with friendly and attentive staff making the experience even better. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a satisfying and memorable meal!

Really disappointed I came on my own for lunch booked a table for 2.45 to be left stood at the door ! not once was I acknowledged I understand they are busy but I was ignored by everyone! so I left upset I won't be back

Lovely food but a bit pricey. Ok if it is a special occasion but not for every day food.

Called into the Woodman with a friend yesterday lunchtime. In the main area nearly all the tables were empty. Sat on one for two. Young waitress was sent by the man standing at desk to tell us that table was taken and so we're all the others. We said we just wanted a coffee and were told we could have it outside but no snack . We left and will not go back. Have had many meals in the Woodman but after that customer service will not go back.

My baby soon was made to feel very welcome.
