My husband and I stayed here about three weeks ago. I would agree with a couple of other people on here. You do feel as though you are spoken to like a child. In a nutshell it is not a hotel but a guest house…..a great difference. On the upside it is very clean, nice room although the bathroom was built into the room hence is the size of a cupboard. Dinner is at seven, (no flexibility) and needed to be ordered day before. Breakfast was ok, bordering questionable for the price. We didn’t dine there, but we did go to the Riveria to eat on the second evening….absolutely superb, from the food to the waiting. The name ‘The Woodlands’ is slightly misleading. We thought we would be graced with some kind of wood…..nope not at all…about three trees. The best thing about this place are the animals…dogs and chickens, lovely. Very expensive for what it is. £249 per night for B & B. Ps Be aware of the car park, it is very tight, and small.

Arrived late one afternoon with no booking. Fabulous old quirky building, beautifully maintained. Comfortable instantly on crossing the threshold. Fantastically helpful friendly hosts, absolutely the best and instantly comfortable with them and the environment. As a privately run hotel it fits perfectly between the Old somewhat more austere hotels and pubs with rooms. Its wonderfully unique! Very well stocked bar and wine cellar priced sensibly. The food was to die for. Not too fancy but different, original and home cooked. Absolutely wonderful. Best Cauliflower Cheese I have ever eaten through the simple addition of one ingredient. Want to know what it is? Go there and try it! You will not be disappointed. A truly fantastic find and would never look anywhere else if in that area. Quirky, unique and fantastic hosts and staff! I can not praise this hotel highly enough!

I booked this hotel for our 10 year wedding anniversary as a 2 night stay away without the children as a treat. From arrival to departure, Dan and Megan couldn’t have been better hosts. Very welcoming and made the stay extra special with their friendly banter. The room was very spacious and the bed was huge and so comfortable! The whole hotel is spotless and the garden is beautiful. I enjoyed watching the chickens and CoCo their dog having fun in the garden from our window. We ate in the restaurant on our first night, had breakfast both mornings and used the honesty bar. The food was perfectly cooked and very well presented. I’ve never used an honesty bar before but it was not a problem and actually quite a novelty to be bar lady for the evening! The hotel has an easy access car park and is a perfect distance of a 5-10 min walk to the beach and shops. We will definitely be returning and so pleased to have come across this lovely hotel. Thank you for such a lovely stay. :-)

I stayed over Easter weekend with my parents and we absolutely loved our stay at The Woodlands Hotel. When we arrived, the owner showed us around the hotel and was very friendly and gave us all the information we needed. Our rooms were located next to each other which was great! The rooms were spotless, finished with nice touches (biscuits and chocolate). The showers were great! I had a single occupancy room and it was spacious and really lovely. The breakfasts were also really good. The full English was lovely and there’s plenty of options with cereal, granola and fruit too. On Easter Sunday, we had an Easter egg on our table which was a lovely touch. We used the honesty bar which had plenty of options to drink and we played pool! Location was great and plenty of parking. Would definitely recommend and stay again. The owners were so friendly to talk too and made us feel very welcome.

Absolutely brilliant reception from the man behind the bar, very friendly, welcoming, and helpful, two men at the bar very friendly. Nice selection of real ale in the barrels behind the bar. Good all day brunch menu. The food we had was really nice, hot, freshly cooked. Staff checked that everything was ok. Nice open fire in bar area. Clean toilets, but upstairs only, I think there are plans for toilet on ground floor. Really enjoyed our visit. Will definitely visit again, without the car, so that I can sample more of the splendid beer !

Probably the best Fish restaurant in Sidmouth. The moment we entered the restaurant and received a warm welcome from the front of house staff we knew we were in for a treat. From the starters through to the excellent main courses (Whole Plaice and Fillet of Hake) the food was sublime. The quality of Neils food preparation and cooking was sublime. I met Neil afterwards to thank him in person for the high quality evening he and his staff provided.
