Visited local garden centre at Wolseley Bridge many times and eaten in the restaurant, having lunch and afternoon tea, including at Christmas. Will not be returning after experience last Friday. Drove my two neighbours there for the festive lunch and after a reasonable meal, nothing special, went to settle the bill for all of us as I had made the booking and paid the deposit. The girl on one of the two tills was trying to sort out payment from five ladies who also had made a group booking but wanted to pay separately. The system wasn't co-operating and she resorted to calling someone to help. That someone turned out to be the restaurant manager. After she figured out how to accommodate the various payments she turned to leave and I asked whether someone could please take my payment as I was not part of the other group and by this time I had been waiting patiently for about 15 minutes. She simply said they were all busy though by this time it was 2.30 pm and quiet. I asked whether she could do it herself but she said, quite rudely, that she had 'other things to do', turned and walked away. I suggested to her retreating back that perhaps her priority should be customer service but she took no notice. When finally I got to pay it took one minute. That one minute and a 'sorry' is all it would have taken to avoid this review.

I have been to Wolseley Garden centre many many times. The restaurant is lovely, food is always nice and the carvery is always excellent. The staff are friendly and professional and the stock is good quality with a large selection..HOWEVER the toilets absolutely reek!!!!! This isn't a one off, I've actively avoided the toilets here for years however I did have to use them today and as soon as I opened the door the pungent stench of stagnant urine punched me in the face and made my eyes water. The staff have tried to cover this up by using numerous Reed diffusers, I have to say, to absolutely no avail. This needs to be rectified wether it's a sewage problem I don't know but they could do with all new toileting facilities desperately. 🤢 I really can't tell you how ill that smell made me feel. I URGE BGS to send a member of head office to this establishment to experience this. I have also emailed an enquiry about this on their website and suggested it is forwarded to head office.

Came in for some lunch and drinks. There was a hand written sign saying £2.99 sausage bap so I ordered two, I checked my reciept and I was charged £5.49 for each. When I questioned it the staff member simply went "no that's wrong can you hand me it it needs wiping off" I said I didn't want them if they were full price and then the staff member was just rude. I was always under the impression you have to sell food at the advertised price (I didn't say this she just said I either have them at full price or have a refund). She couldn't do the refund so had to get another staff member too but she was quite frankly rude to her own colleague (who was a total joy in comparrison). I was then asked if I had told the kitchen if I had cancelled the order? Unless they were expecting me to pop back myself, no. The coffee I ordered tasted like dirty tap water. 2 stars for the hot chocolate being lovely and the soft play being good for the kids. Also the prices in the menu do not correspond with the drinks. Won't be hurrying back as the whole thing put me in a fowl mood.

Normally we have found this restaurant to be good but on this occasion we arrived at 2.15 and lunch was served until 2.30. We waited to be served and waited and waited and at 2.30 I went to see a waitress and asked about lunch as we had not been served for 15 minutes. She looked at the clock and went in the kitchen where there were lots of looking at the clock and shaking of heads so although we were on time for lunch we could not have it. We had a cup of tea for which we were charged 50p extra for decaf tea for me, bit excessive I thought. so all in all not a good visit this time

Went today for carvery, the staff behind counter were miserable looked really fed up,stood in a big queue for carvery which was caused by only one lady carving the sparce portion of meat ( not the ladies fault she needs help ,one carving and one serving ) that's what was causing the long queue, you need to get your act together or you will be losing customers, don't blame the lady serving she was lovely, blame the management for penny pinching on staff

Stopped for a coffee, sandwich and cake with my dog about 1pm. Restaurant was quieter than I'd have expected. Plenty of tables available however several had trays with the remains of uneaten Sunday carvery. Ordered my food only to witness a waitress hacking away at a severely iced up refrigeration unit behind the counter. All the milk cartons were left on the floor! If I'd have seen this I wouldn't have eaten in the restaurant. It was extremely hot in the area so any high risk food such as milk should have been placed in another refrigerated unit whilst the defrosting took place. NOT stored on the floor behind the counter! Disappointed and shocked customer who will think twice about dining here again. Food was okay but nothing special for the price I paid.

Disappointed with quality of the food. panini was almost burnt on the bottom, no salad arrived and the chips were very few in number considering the price. We asked for vinegar and were told there was none left other than what was already out, so we would have to ask other customers for the bottle when they had finished!

Well we’ve only been here once before and that was just before christmas and had no issues. Today however was a different story. Two light bites, two kids meals and two coffees, £40 which I think is pretty steep but we wanted a nice atmosphere and somewhere for the kids to play. We seated ourselves near the softplay. The table was filthy. We had to spend 5 minutes with baby wipes trying to get the grime off the table. It looked like it hadn’t been cleaned all morning. We then sat for an hour waiting for our food. The kids were starting to play up so we just decided to leave. I don’t know if they forgot about us as there were a few other families that came after us that had their food. We were given a full refund which I would expect to be honest. Unfortunately we wont be returning.

I love visiting garden centres this time of year full of festive delights. My sister and I decided we would visit to see what new items could be purchased for Xmas, deciding to have lunch first. I opted for the Chicken Tikka sandwich with mint mayonnaise and my sister had prawns. Both came with a handful of chips (probably 6) and coleslaw. The bread on both was very dry but as there was lots of sauce with the prawns my sister managed her sandwiches just leaving the crusts. However, even with a magnifying glass you would struggle to see the mayo on mine so I ate the chicken pieces with chips leaving the rest. It was extremely busy - I think we had the last table so it may be that not as much care went into the food, I don’t know. I think I’ve only had snacks before like teacakes. It cost us £25 for our two meals and a drink each and definitely don’t think it was worth that !!! Not sure whether I’d hurry back and certainly not during busy times.

Pros: lovely table decorated for us on arrival. The food was really tasty. There was loads. Good value for money. Cons The vegetarian afternoon tea was served with tuna sandwiches and two puddings which may or may not have contained gelatine (none of the staff could say for sure) which we couldn't eat. The supervisor spoke to me in a very patronising way when I pointed out that vegetarians don't eat fish (apparently some do?) Overall was nice, just a shame couldn't actually eat alot that was given. The other staff were all super lovely. 👌

———————WILL NOT BE BACK!———————- I’ve often enjoyed the British garden centre at Wolseley bridge, especially this time of the year the Christmas displays are a firm favourite with the grand children. On my last visit I was let down on entering the restaurant again…. There was 2 young girls making the coffee, one of which was of a large stature clowning around. There was coffee, dirty clothes and cups all over their workstation. Everybody in the cue stood complaining. Drink were being passed to the wrong people, they made one coffee on each persons order and then took so long to make another that everyones coffees had gotten so cold. When I approached the girl with the large stature she felt it and said it was hot and threw it back down on my tray. I could hear her muttering under her breath something. I then returned my coffee as my husband said that it was unacceptable, I was given a filthy look then left yet again waiting for the coffee. The lady at the till couldn’t have been more professional, regardless of being harassed with a large cue and 2 incompetent young workers she intervened and thus rectified the situation. This restaurant really should really consider who they hire? Yes I’m all for youths learning, but it has spoiled my experience yet again at a place I love to shop!

Visited for bank holiday breakfast, this was our first time trying the garden centre restaurant but had heard quite good things previously. Friendly staff, nice looking display of cakes, not busy for a bank holiday, maybe 6 tables occupied. Ordered two fried breakfasts and it took exactly 45 minutes to arrive!!! The fried eggs were terribly over cooked, the yolks were solid. The side plate of toast had obviously been sitting on a hot plate as the butter sachets were liquid. Complained to the young staff but no one seemed that bothered either about the wait or the overcooked food. Really disappointed

Attended 16th and 17th of august. We are buying plants for the new conservatory and thought to pop in for a coffee and bite to eat.The garden centre is so well stalked with fabulous items, took us a whole day and half to decide what to buy. One of the best selections by far on house plants. Sadly on both occasions in the cafe i had to wait in a cue while 6 members of staff were chatting over the coffee machine about their children, tables were filthy! One member of staff who served me (blonde) smelled of strong “ cigarettes” she was very agitated when taking my order. She wasn't very friendly at all, very unapologetic when some items weren’t available and spoke to me through her teeth when I asked questions. This cafe would be great if the staff worked at the same level of quality

The food was ok, and the ambiance acceptable - this is a garden centre, so I didn't expect anything posh. But the service was just appalling. There was a long queue; at one point there were no less than six staff members behind the counter - with ONE taking orders and five getting each other's way making coffee and chatting. When it was at last my turn, the one server went off, with no explanation, no polite smile and "be with you in a moment". Eventually she came back; one of the things I wanted was not available, she muddled the replacement, and then charged my for my full order although I had to ask twice for one of my items which had still not been provided. A total reorganisation and a bit of staff training in customer relations desperately needed.

I’ve always come to the gardeners cafe. I find the food reasonably good value for money and that of a good quality! Each time we are greeted in such a lovely manner. The Scottish lady behind the counter always remembers our drinks orders and makes us laugh and feel so welcome. We look forward to seeing her each week along with some of the other ladies. The fish and chips is delicious, freshly made. We have tried some specials and they also very nice. Myself and George highly recommend the scones which are baked on the premises and are absolutely huge ( biggest scones from anywhere around) If you attend around 9am, you will have those beautiful scones hot!!!

If I could rate 0 I would. Today my daughter and I popped in for a bite to eat. There was no room in the 1st part of the restaurant but spaces in the part which is designated for people with dogs. I’m happy to sit by a dog no problem. In fact out of the 6 tables only 1 had a dog with them. We ordered lunch and started to eat. Immediately a waitress started buzzing around holding onto a spray bottle and cloth waiting to clean asap, as there was now a queue forming. Behind us was a guy on a table for 4 happily tucking into his carvery. She kept coming up looking at him. Then unbelievably she came to our table and asked us if he was alone. When she was certain he was alone she let out a big sigh and shrugged shoulders. She then even more unbelievably went and asked the gentleman if he minded moving as he was on a table for 4 and it was really for those with dogs. The guy politely picked up his tray and started walking around with his meal to find another space. I was astonished at the bad manners displayed and I pointed out to the waitress she was out of order. She then argued with me and quickly placed another couple with a dog. That person obviously then felt uncomfortable and started arguing the point that it was for dogs. I explained I understand that but it was disrespectful to ask the customer to move half way through his meal. He became more argumentative and his wife was asking him to calm down. In the end they stormed out without eating and shouted abusive language to me as he went by waving his finger. What an absolute disaster of what should be an enjoyable day out. The waitress was totally in the wrong and ended up causing 5 people to be upset. I would not recommend this place at all and would strongly advise the company do some customer care training.

I’ve been to this cafe in the garden centre for years. Sometimes it’s great and sometimes it’s terrible. Breakfast today: tepid and greasy food. Waitress looked guilty bringing it to the table; she knew it looked poor. Carvery, a month ago: tepid gunge that was badly slopped onto plate. (Lots of it though… if you want a heap of gunge, they are not stingey with the sides.) Tea/ dinner 6 weeks ago: chicken burger and fries; lovely. There are 2-3 experienced waitresses who know how to deal with people and do things properly, but they also employ some zombies, who wander past tables piled high with dishes, as if oblivious. It really depends on the day. Eating here involves an element if chance. You might get lucky…. You might not.

Three of them had uniforms on whilst doing this and all went back into the kitchen to cook/serve food.Surely this isn’t acceptable? The restaurant and garden centre has been recently updated. You can navigate quite nicely now and a lot of natural lighting. The restaurant has a new open and inviting seating area. The food is good.

I have been here a couple of times for afternoon tea, and I can't fault it. Afternoon tea for 2 is £14 and includes sandwich quarters, a platter of small cake fancies and a scone with individual pots of jam and clotted cream (1 each) plus a hot drink. We asked for another drink and we were not charged for it. Excellent value in my opinion, for a lovely light afternoon tea with great service and friendly, helpful staff. If you pre-book you get a reserved table with a cloth! There is also a dog friendly area and a children's soft play area close by. I can only comment on afternoon tea, as this is all I have had here.

Visited here with wife Glenys and 3 year old granddaughter Lucy. Although not that busy the que for service was long and the staff appeared totally disorganised. The mune was not that large considering the size of the restaurant and prices were definitely at the high end. Nothing really to recommend it

Huge queues and only children serving. They need someone solely preparing the hot drinks. Food average and service slow and awful

What was once a nice friendly restaurant with well trained staff and a wide choice of food, I’m sorry to see the recent changes have not been for the best, that was reflected in the marked downturn in customers. My friend and I called infor a coffee and snack. The young untrained surly staff were inattentive and rude. The coffe was good the cake was stale the price was high. Another case of if it ain’t broke don’t try to fix it.

We went with for a 2 main meals for 1. Big mistake we bot had fish and chips. 2nd mistake, the fish was certainly not cod, yes i know that it doesn't say cod, but whatever it was had no taste, didn't have flakes as wasn't even cooked all the way through, the batter was so thin you could see the skin, it was vile, i couldn't eat even half of it.

This garden centre used to be so lovely, it is now very boring with nothing much to look at. The cafe is dirty and food doesn’t look appetising. Cold drinks. Wouldn’t recommend

Popped in here for a browse and a snack. I decided to have a fish finger ciabata sandwich. At £7.95 I was expecting a decent fish finger, but got 4 cheap, poor quality ones on a cold ciabata. Bit of salad, watery tartare sauce and grim coleslaw. My wife's ham sandwich was of an equally poor standard. My son only ate half of his baked potato. No return visit from us.

Very busy garden restaurant, had too wait along time to get served, not enough tables due to certain amount being reserved for later in the afternoon. Ordered Scampi and chips this was served hot, portion size was not worth the £9.50, service was good , felt sorry for the young lady clearing tables on her own,

Visited Santa with the grandchildren age 2&3 today at Wolsey bridge garden centre have to say he was the best Santa we have seen this year he was excellent with the grandchildren and they were able to spend plenty of time with him no rushing in and out like other places . He took his time to speak to each child at length and we had a number of photos taken . Well done Wolseley garden centre and santa you were excellent.

A treat visit before Xmas has proved very disappointing for us. The “festive sandwich” (£5:80) was squishy: overloaded with mayo (why??), the cold bacon was very hard and inedible, too much cranberry sauce on it, hence the turkey, stuffing etc wasn’t held together & was just a squishy mess. The sarnie was inedible because it completely fell to bits because it was so horribly overloaded with the mayo. It was tasteless, poor value for money and wouldn’t be chosen ever again.

Went to see Santa and for lunch - latter part a huge mistake! Tea and coffee, 2 very small kids drinks, a sausage roll (£2.95), kids meal (only part I’d say was average cost (£4.95), a small panini (£6.95) and worst of all, very, very poor ham and cheese toastie (£6.95 too!)

15 mins queing to order food, was told food would be about 15 mins, fine with that, then waited 45 minutes for food to arrive, other customers getting agitated with the wait . Our Sunday meal was Very! Poor quality food and bland. Should have asked for a refund and walked out. Will not be going again. Many comments in comment book saying the same. Went to shops over the road and conversations were the same, bad service, bad food, nothing of the experience was pleasant. My advise is do not eat there.

Went along to the restaurant for lunch with my partner and baby after a walk around the wildlife trust. Shockingly slow service at the till, took 15 minutes to place an order. Ordered a baked potatoe with chilli, a ham and cheese panini and 2 reg hot chocs. Came to £24.50!Our table had plates stacked up from the last customers, babies highchair was dirty and the floor was covered with food. Food took around 30 mins to come out, in that time no one came to remove the dirty plates. When our food arrived the waitress still did not remove the plates... very strange! The restaurant was fairly busy in their defence but if the staff had a bit about them they could run a more effective service!

Decided to give Wolsey Bridge another chance... Mistake. Severely overpriced food, fish and chips £9.95, can of pepsi £1.80!! Service was spectacularly slow, waited over 10 mins just to put my order in. Staff had no sense of urgency. Won't be coming back anytime soon.

Visited here with my friend mainly because we had a voucher for afternoon tea at a special price of £10.00 although the wait to be served at the counter was a little long eventually we ordered our afternoon teas what a pleasant surprise we had a lovely assortment of cakes, scones were beautiful freshly made and still warm and two pots of tea amazing value, like all afternoon teas a few more sandwiches and a few less cakes would be better but the cakes were all delicious, my only complaint was that the girl serving at the counter could have been a little more pleasant perhaps needs a course on customer service came across has being quite rude although busy no excuse

Great selection of plants and items to buy in store. Rachel is lovely and defiantly always got a smile on her face, I just wish the other staff were friendlier. The walk is beautiful, just a shame dogs are required to be on leads.

Sorry - disappointed with the food, we had two sandwiches with a spoonful of crisps and a tiny bit of coleslaw. Both cost close to 6 pound per sandwich... so disappointing. Over priced and poor quality. Way too expensive for what you get. Would not visit again!

Cream tea was yummy, included large scone jam and clotted cream though I had a black coffee which was disappointingly strong and like it had been on the heat all day. Garden centre is not huge but just enough for a half day trip.

Called into the cafe for lunch with the family. All I can say is......Very Disappointing. Ordered a fish finger sandwich, and was faced with what can only be described as Iceland fish fingers! I wouldn’t mind but not what you expect when you pay £6.55 for it! Also ordered a Bacon and Brie panini, it could be described as mediocre at best. All in all, a very disappointing experience. I can safely say I will not return.

My wife and I called in one Saturday afternoon and it was really quiet. After being stood at the bar for 10 minutes without seeing any member of staff I can understand why. We ended up walking out and going somewhere where they wanted our custom, personally I will not think about returning.

Haven’t been here for years but called in on Friday night. We’d looked a recent reviews and some didn’t sound great, but we decided to try it. We didn’t have the set two course offer as they looked abit too basic, but opted for £15ish main courses. Thai chicken curry, sea bass, beef bourgineon, and the pan fried chicken were all decent portion and well presented. Decent quality food. Staff were pleasant enough too. Our only minus was the upholstery which was ripped and had taped repairs. I know management is newish so hopefully repairs are being planned, but this lets the place down. Otherwise decor is nice. We will call again.

Ideal historic venue for breakfast from the traditional Wetherspoon's wide choice. All excellent value, served by friendly and efficient staff. Toilets were spotless, and the whole place is a real asst to the town (as it has been for 110 years).

We turned up without reservation for Subday lunch and they instantly seated us. The waiting staff took our drinks order right away and we waited at the most 2-3 minutes for our drinks and at most 10 minute for our food. The food was plentiful, hot and delicious and I can honestly say it was sure best Subday lunch I have ever had We cannot wait to return again!
