We waited and waited for our breakfast and decided 45 minutes and no one updating us when we had asked where our food was, was too poor. We left. Some observations - there are lots of staff but they are incredibly young. There always used to be someone clearly older and experienced who was in charge and directing things. Not now. Absent the missing food the coffee was less than lukewarm - unacceptably so. We were stood waiting for around 5 mins when we arrived before anyone came over to seat us. I think that is crap. If someone goes to the bar and says ‘look we have been waiting over half an hour’ the right way to deal with it is not to argue and say that your system says it is only 20 minutes. For completeness I was being kind at 30 mins - it was longer - and I strongly suspect that your system said ‘only’ 20 mins because the young thing that took our order got distracted after and didn’t input our order in until later. Also when you say you are going into the kitchen to check where the food is and how long it will be, don’t go for a chat with your mate at the end of the bar. Also then don’t sulk off into the kitchen when you see I haven’t moved and am waiting/watching you and then come out and not come over and update me. All in all it was absolutely amateur hour. If you run the place with kids then you get kids level of service. I am local and a massive fan Saracen’s Head and Weston Hall. I won’t be back for a while and I will post this review where I can. It is a shame to see somewhere that has been so decent go on the slide.

We hadn't even sat down before being asked what we wanted to drink. We were then approached on four separate occasions to ask what food we wanted. It felt like we were being pestered and it wasn't relaxing at all. Also the waitress was not very engaging and made us feel we were an inconvenience. The food was below average and not what I was expecting. Had the mozzarella, tomato and basil pesto sandwich and posh chips, which was absolutely drenched in balsamic sauce which completely overwhelmed the taste, the sandwich was one very small slice of sourdough bread . The aesthetics were very nice as was the garden area but won't be returning.

Very busy pub/restaurant, glad we booked. Staff were lovely, very helpful, place was absolutely jam packed and several things were unavailable, but still had plenty of choice. Food was freshly cooked & delicious, and I mean really good an tasty. In fact the food was so good, my Mrs forgot to get photos of the main courses! Staff were really helpful in adapting menu items (I didn't fancy chips, they swapped for a salad etc etc) Everything clean and tidy, floor manager noticed I was suffering in the heat and opened a window, its little touches like that that take things from good to great

19/20/08. My wife, our two large dogs and me have called in here for an overnight stop in our motorhome, when on route between home in whitby and holiday in Cornwall. Doubling up as nice place to catch up with family who live Stafford. Place is clean and tidy, menus are adequate for all tastes. The breakfasts are very good. The staff are friendly and work hard, all of those we came into contact with made us feel very much welcome, and genuinely friendly with good senses of humour Our sincerest best wishes and thanks to Ellie and Zak (Georgina) (private joke). Who really are a credit to the pub/restaurant. Many thanks to breakfast staff Nicki and Roz Really nice, friendly and relaxed looking after us despite being busy.

We like to eat out and are willing to spend money on it, but unfortunately the price-performance ratio here is not right at all. Fried scampi (finished products) with homemade fries says it all. In any case, it sounds better on the map than it is as it is.

We have visited before and it was an excellent experience but unfortunately not this time. The service was extremely poor. we waited over 40 mins for our mains and when we asked about them they suddenly arrived. The food had obviously been waiting at the pass because my tartar sauce was beginning to curdle and the mushy peas had a film on them. We had to ask for dessert menus and after a 15 mins wait for someone to come and take our order we decided not to. There was a service charge automatically put onto the bill which we asked to be taken off in light of the poor service. I would recommend the food but suggest that the waiting staff be given designated tables. 3 different people eventually attended to us which was very inefficient.

Wasn't an excellent experience but was somewhat remedied by a beautiful location surrounded by wildlife and nature. If you don’t like paying £8 for just one Bao bun, this might not be the place for you. Most of the younger staff seemed like they’d rather be anywhere but the restaurant. minus one very friendly waiter who apologised on their behalf. A beautiful place, with nice food let down by what one can assume is upper management who haven’t prioritised the restaurants quality of service which has ultimately lowered staff moral. Will come again to give it a second shot as it has alot of potential

We spent a night in their car park in our 7m long Motorhome, didn’t need to book just turn up and let them know of your arrival. They suggested where to park for the night, don’t park in front of either of the gates to the rear of the side car park! We accessed the canal via the gateway which is slightly hidden at the end of the little road in front of the row of beautiful white cottages! ( turn right as the canal footpath is slightly better for dog walking and does go further for the longer walk!) Dogs are invited but only in the stone floored part of the main bar, the front section accessed through the main front door! (The door to the side with the ramp leads to the main bar then turn right) We had a pleasant pint of cider & a large glass of wine for my wife in the rear beer garden which was large before calling it a night, had already eaten so instead we had their mini breakfast prior to leaving which was tasty and set us up for the final days travel onwards to the Lake District…, The pub was of a high standard and service was very good, very helpful and informative staff and highly recommended stop over if passing or in the area! Fairly easy to get too but not this week as it’s the local yearly County fair which meant long traffic quotes getting there and getting back to the M6!

Quite a little find. Yes, it's part of a chain, but it's a bit classier than the others. We dined on a Monday and the waitress was apologetic saying that they had experienced a busy Sunday so there were no burgers, wraps or pizzas available. Admittedly we arrived late in the evening but did ask if food would be a problem and they told us no it was fine. The waitress was so snooty and looked down on us as if we was speaking a different language, it was completely obvious they was pissed off we was eating late but it was still within the time they served food. The whole meal just felt awkward, which was so disappointing as it wasnt cheap to eat in there. The setting and pub is gorgeous, with alpacas and farm animals who were a lot more friendly than the waitress we had. Food was delicious though, so hats off to the chef. Sadly won’t be returning.

Very dog friendly. The choice of food and wine was very good and we enjoyed the wines we had. The food was a little hit and miss. Some of the dishes were great (the roast lamb and the cheese platter) but my roast beef was a bit disappointing, only one piece of beef (most places you get at least two) and the roast potatoes were very overcooked. There were plenty of fresh veges though, so that was good. My Partner's pizza was a bit flavourless with lots of onion that he had to scrape off but because of the great service and cozy ambience I would certainly give this another try.

I had a meal at the Saracens head with four friends last night, three of us had the Beef Salad and I must say the food was awful, the salad had no dressing, was dry and the beef was tough, we did mention this to the waitress but there wasn’t any discussion about any discount taken of the bill, I thought for £17 this was not acceptable, especially for a salad, but you were happy to charge a service charge on top, so very very disappointing as have eaten at you’re restaurant before with no question on the food.

Order Process was easy enough over the phone a few days prior & there was a great choice of available meats & accompaniments including all the trimmings you'd expect with a restaurant served Roast Dinner. Will definitely be ordering again or infact going to book for a meal in the restaurant when we're allowed again as have previously only been to the Sarecens Head for Breakfast meal times.I also plan to try one of The Saracens Heads other themed take away nights sometime soon, great menu and choice available. The Saracens Head has provided us a no hassle quality Sunday Roast Meal, despite it being Mothering Sunday which I'm sure was a busy day for them. Wrong decision .. whitebait arrived for little fishy on the little dishy.. come on how cheap are they ! we had them on the last visit and certainly had more even though in my oppinion the portion should have been bigger but let they go. Salt & pepper Calamari .. 4 ultra slim calmari sitting on the plate .. salt & pepper must have been in lockdown no seasoning. Halloumi & chorizo bites few tiny squares sitting on a plate the halloumi must have squeaked off in the kitchen . again morsel amount. Mew mentioned it to both server ( who was miserable as sin) she said it depended on the size of the whitebait how many you had .. doh like we didn’t know white bait are tiny fishes ! Front of house manage cane to clear our dishes we again expressed our disappointment. Again a gave us a fishy tail. He offered to take one of the starters off total bill. Several times we've been for a meal here and alwats come away disappointed before COVID, during and yesterday. Yesterdays bill was £176 for what was an unacceptable, over pretencious meal with one of the rudest waiters I have had the displeasure of being served by.The food... cold, under cooked, ropey Roast Beef dinner with a yorkshire pudding the size of the plate that if you took that away the actual dinner would be half the size of what you should expect for paying £14. 2 x slices of Beef that was tough, 1 roast potato cut in half, carrots that had still got grit in the top... I could go on but you get the picture. From the moment we sat down... felt rushed... and when given the desert menu the waiter said 'time is ticking'.I could detail so much more from a very disappointing visit but I really don't want to waste any more of my time to be honest on this place.Dear Management... your establishment might look nice but my god you are fast getting a poor reputation.Repeat business should be your goal... and ourselves like many others will not be returning. Such a shame that you have poor food and even worse staff... really letting down what could be a place you shoukd want to go to again and again... sadly we will be spending our money elsewhere from now on.

What a mega disappointment. We visited a near by drive in cinema and wanted some food after so we headed to this place and really wished we’d have driven past. When we arrived we asked if there was a table to which the reply was abruptly “Do you have a mask with you?”I did and apologised and put it on only to be told we’d have to wait outside for 15mins whilst a table was prepared as we hadn’t booked. Explaining how cold it was we asked if it was possible to wait inside to which the male employee again abruptly barked NO!!I said we’d wait in the car and look out for him at the door. In fairness we only ended up waiting about 5 mins and then were taken to our table. Now given the fuss made about the face masks and being told to wait you’d think the least we could have expected is a clean table. The table had wet glass marks on it still and dropped food around the base and chair, there was also a tiny spot of sauce on the table edge, again not usually a problem, but either their cleaning properly or they’re not.We then proceeded to order drinks and food after a delay in being asked. When our steaks arrived they were both incredibly over cooked; instead of medium they were well done.I informed the server of this who proceeded to inform a manager. The response was we can have them changed but they’d be a delay as the kitchen were busy. Hmmm I’m almost certain existing diners take priority over new orders when there’s a problem right? We decided not to bother sending back as we were hungry and they weren’t inedible, just not how we wanted them. However we’d at least expected a discount, not a free meal, the response???“You chose to eat them” - whilst true I don’t think the customer service is at all what it should be. My actual intention was going to pay full price but use the discount to pay for the ‘invisible chips’ initiative. Given the vulnerabilities Covid-19 is putting on establishments you’d at the very least expect everywhere to up their game in the customer service department, but not this place!!Even the table next to us said about the Manager (presumed) “he must be having a bad day”.I will not return here again, there’s a million and one places as good if not better.

We were camping locally to celebrate a special birthday. We decided we would visit the pub for a drink and some food. We wanted to sit outside. We got a drink, sat outside. A lady came over to tell us we needed to sit down etc. We apologised and sat down. We were then watched like hawkes. Made me feel very uncomfortable. We were doing no wrong. We then decided we would order food to take away rather than stay. 4 of us arrived to collect the food (2 waited outside) where the bar staff all spoke about us, looking and talking. We waited outside for our food order to be ready for one of the bar staff to come and shut the door on us. The door had been open all evening. We were causing no loud noise etc. Also didn't enjoy the food. Fish was overly greasy and it was basically dry roast potatoes with it. Gutted really as I've heard good things about this pub. My mom highly recommended it to me. I just walked away gutted about the food and made to feel very belittled.

We were passing this place while cruising the canals and saw their sign. We were pleased with the social distancing. The staff were polite and friendly except one. I had the ribeye steak medium to well done. It was tasty but was well done throughout. I paid three quid extra for a portion of Scampi which wad a very poor four pieces. My wife had the Scampi and it was ok but nothing special and again for over twelve pounds not great value. I had a pint of beer and I had to send it back as it was a short measure. My next drink was also a short measure so went back for a top up and the waitress pulled a right face when I told her it needed topping up. When I ordered my third pint I asked them to make sure it was full. Overall the food is ok but vastly overpriced for the small portions you receive. Pics show the size of the meals.

First time since ease of lockdown to meet up with friends and have a meal. The service provided by all staff was exceptional. Food quality was excellent. Tables are well spaced for social distancing. All health and safety measures had been put into place and were being adhered to by staff and customers. Thoroughly enjoyable evening

A bit of a mixed bag for me — creamy garlic mushrooms to start were very good, my Sunday roast lamb was ok: it needed more seasoning, the roasties were a little solid and not anywhere near crispy, and the green/root veg were fine. Boiled and buttered, nothing more, but did the job. My wife had the salmon risotto, and said the the fish was quite dry and the risotto fairly stodgy. Kids had fish goujons (good) and the burger (dry, bordering on overcooked, but my son ate it anyway). The restaurant itself is quite smart, they look to have taken COVID precautions seriously and it was a pleasant dining out experience in that sense. Just for £20 per head for food, I would have expected a little better quality. It wasn’t bad by any means, but equally I wouldn’t particularly want to come back if I was visiting the area again.

We went for a sunday roast today and were left feeling deflated. The pub is in a lovely setting and decorated lovely. We were told to wait as our table wasnt ready. No issue there but we were left waiting by the door. We then were taken through and ordered 2 roast beef meals. It arrived within minutes ad was luke warm at best. For the price i expected more than 2 quarter potatoes and some undercooked carrots. I think the chef made a mistake with the kale, as they put a massive amount if pepper in it. Far too much pepper. The service was so poor. We were made to feel unwelcome. Such a massive disappointment. I felt uncomfortable here. It was a pretensious overpriced sunday roast.

Been for breakfast on many occasions and never complained but visited on a government funded day in August and was disappointed that the sausages were of very poor quality compared to full price days. We have been used to lovely butchers sausages and not cheap quality sausages which where so awful our table couldn’t eat them. Shame on you as other establishments have not lowered their quality on the discounted day’s. Has put me off visiting again to be honest!

Took a while to be seated originally. The service then continued to be extremely slow. The staff were polite, and knowledgable, but just no where near enough of them, so the service was just lacking. I wanted to order more drinks etc but just didn't get the chance. We then ordered lunch, this was some dishes from the lunch menu, and some dishes from the main menu. We ordered the beef burger, which was absolutely dripping in grease, to which it made the bread soggy, and the plate absolutely soaking and was ridiculous to eat. The pizza was just tomato puree topping, far too sweet. The chicken burger was nice. The side was cold, but they warmed it up after asking. We had 1 sandwich which was okay. But, the steak sandwich, in ciabatta, wasn't good at all. The Ciabatta was stale, it was solid! We could've reported these concerns to have them sorted at the time but there was no one to ask! When the waitress came over to clear the table after we asked, she asked how it was, to which we explained. They did then take the burger off the bill and the steak sandwich. But there was apology, it was just taken off the bill and the bill was handed to us with no explanation. It was eat out to help out, so I understand they were busy. I have actually been here a fair few times, which is usually lovely, so it was such a shame to have such a bad experience this time. Definitely wouldn't visit again after this experience.

I have been here several times before and have always had a good meal. However, when I visited last week for lunch I was quite disappointed. I felt that the staff were rushed off their feet (clearly very understaffed) and weren’t really overly friendly, they all looked a bit confused and like they weren’t too sure what they were doing. We waited waited almost an hour for our food and we only had sandwiches! We were sat round the corner and to be honest it felt like all of the staff forgot about us - nobody even took a food order for probably around 25/30 mins. We had to try and flag people down to get more drinks because nobody came up to the table to check on us at all or ask if we wanted any more drinks. I feel like the standards have slipped a bit and it’s disappointing as Saracens used to be lovely.

First visit to The Saracens Head and although the surroundings are lovely 2 hours from sitting down to eating was ridiculous. To be honest I think they forgot our order as people that arrived a good hour after us got their food and had left before ours arrived. One person did apologise but another staff members was talking about other customers complaining. I could see how busy they were and the circumstances of Covid not helping but they said they even knew the coke was flat( half hour wait for) and couldn't be bothered to sort it. The staff were obviously stressed and snappy but the food was on the whole very good when we eventually got it apart from a starter that was burnt. And yes the coke was flat. We did want a dessert but couldn't be bothered to wait again.

Whilst the food and service were good I felt rather uncomfortable with the lack of attention to hygiene in view of Covid. Whilst several of the staff were wearing face masks whist serving two male members of staff who attended our table were not wearing face masks and certainly not social distancing. They were leaning over the table to put out serviettes and cutlery and standing over people when delivering drinks to the table. Whilst certain measures to keep people safe have been put in place I feel there are areas that need looking at and improving.

£60.00 for 4burgers and a bottle of cheap wine which you cannot upgrade.Chips and other side are charged separately.A meal for 2 adults and 2 children with 2 soft drinks. No offer of a 2nd bottle of wine with the burger meal seeing that the kids can’t drink.Overall paid £90.00 which includes 3 x £6.95 deserts which were not worth the money. If you pay £7.00 for a desert you should be getting value for money and a desert to die for.First and last visit to Saracens Head as at these prices we could have been better fed elsewhere for at least 2 sittings. The food quality and amount of it doesn’t represent a fair price.

Visited the 6th March for Sunday Lunch with my husband and four year old daughter. First time at this restaurant and first impressions were good, the staff were welcoming and we were shown to a nice table with lovely views of the surrounding countryside. The staff were excellent throughout and are the reason for two stars instead of one. The food however was pretty much dreadful. Our daughters chicken goujons were homemade but incredibly greasy, so much so she said they made her feel sick and couldn’t eat them. Our Sunday roasts were awful, two slices of meat, two undercooked roast potatoes (why don’t these places learn how to cook decent crispy roasters!) and small bowl of inedible hard veg that we had to send back, all swimming in tasteless, pond water gravy. All this for the eye watering sum of £15 per lunch! We have no issue paying this much for good food but in this occasion we felt it was an appalling waste of money for very poor food.Management your kitchen staff are letting down your front of house staff (who by the way were really lovely). If you’re searching for a decent Sunday Roast in Staffordshire I suggest you give this place a wide birth.

Looked forward to eating here but was very disappointed. The place is very cosey and a lovely setting, nice attentive staff and very good service, but unfortunately the food lets them down. The starters, which are roughly £6.95 are very small portions. The mains are a bit of a mish-mash. I ordered crispy pork belly draft, and when it came it was a 2" piece of very fatty soft top and very hard overcooked bottom. The gravy (Not sauce) was very strong with wine, A friend had fish and chips with chip shop curry sauce which was very sweet. My husband wanted to order the lamb hotpot but they didn't have any left, which for 8pm on a saturday was a bit odd.

Really nice lunch today - we couldn’t sit in restaurant as a wake had booked, but we were quickly offered a table in the bar area. The staff were attentive but we waited a long time for food (particularly as we had a child with us) and then they realised they didn’t have any gluten free buns, so my husband had to reorder, which delayed food further unfortunately. We have eaten here regularly and the food is of high quality, my fish this time was rather bland compared to usual, but generally everything else was good!

Delicious food and good service but marred by the use of plastic straws.Surely in 2020 the message should have got through that single use plastic is bad for the environment?A glass of tap water, a glass of fizzy water and a glass of tonic water all arrived with a straw! Please can you start using paper straws or only provide them if people ask for them?If the likes of Wetherspoons can provide paper straws surely an establishment like the Saracen’s Head could follow suit?

Disappointed at my visit today. Food arrived and there was a hair in my sandwich as I bit into it I had to pull it out of my sandwich and mouth. First waitress was apologetic (she did well for her first day) however managers attitude was poor and abrupt practically accusing me of putting the hair within my own sandwich as he ‘only has men’ in the kitchen. Well I did not put it in myself and it was really disgusting. 40th birthday lunch not a great choice of eateries and won’t return. In hospitality it’s important to be nice as a bad review spreads x8 more than a good one.
