We are obsessed with Joules pubs and have been wanting to visit this one for a while. We only had a drink so weren't there long at all, but the staff were friendly and it's a beautiful pub. The car park is reasonably sized but when it's busy, I imagine parking is a nightmare. The only downside to this is it's on a busy country road so sitting outside isn't overly peaceful. But it's perfect if you sit in 🙂 we'll definitely be coming back for food.

Only called in for a pint, after a 'full-on' meeting, on the way home. Very conveniently on the side of a well-used road - this is not an issue, in fact v. conveniently, though not scenic - though not relevant, as the inside has been well renovated in a historic, & appropriate to the area style. V. best beer I've had in the area for a while - & believe me there are a number of places that serve good beer. I shall return next week to eat too. Excellent welcoming & helpful staff 👍👍👍👍👍

Spent the night at the Swan with my wife. Welcoming and friendly reception and service. I recommend the larger king size rooms and although they face the road, there is good soundproofing and the road gets quiet at night. Dinner was tasty, pretty good beer and a very Argentinian wine. Breakfast which is included in the room rate was traditional and tasty. A good base from which to visit the area.

Very welcoming and convivial hotel. It is a big old hotel, tastefully modernised with very spacious rooms. Mine had a very user-friendly shower and a very comfortable bed. Tea and coffee facilities and dairy milk provided. The location is next to a busy road but soundproofing is efficient. There is a quieter road behind that leads to Forton Hall and All Saints church (open during the day) and proceeeds in direction of Gnosall. Sizeable car park. Good breakfast.

We stayed at The Swan as we were attending a family party in Newport. We got the warmest welcome from the guys there as soon as we walked through the door. We were shown to our lovely spacious room which had a 4 poster bed and a lounge area and was beautifully decorated. We met some family in the pub for a drink and ended up having dinner there, which was really tasty too. We had breakfast included which we thought was amazing for the price - it was huge and all really well cooked. The guys who run the hotel could not have been more accommodating, especially when it came to our 6 month old daughter, they gave us an extra plate at breakfast so we could give her some of our food without us even asking, they also gave her some balloons to play with and keep her entertained while we ate! Little touches that were really lovely and thoughtful. Could not rate this place highly enough - great customer service goes a long way and they have that nailed! Thank you for a wonderful stay!

Haven’t been here since it’s become a Joules-owned pub. The food was - on the whole - pretty bad! Garlic mushrooms as a starter were some wet mushrooms in a sauce, on 2 pieces of soggy un-toasted bread. The main meat was pretty good; but let down by overcooked, wet vegetables. A high price point for poor food.

The prices are a lot higher, i think the carvery has gone. The adult meals are expensive for what they are, one of the specials was £20 which i think is alot for pub food. Especially considering the competition, the tickled trout sell a really good large breakfast for around 10 pounds, its a nicer location (next to a lake) and it close to this place

Have been coming here for meals for over 20 years, most recently 3 months ago. As we are local we have never stayed in the rooms. We came for a very rare family get together and the food was at best, was mediocre (which is being kind). As I'm on antibiotics, I asked for a diet coke. Apparently, the only diet drinks available was a slimline tonnic! One of the party ended up with nothing to drink as they didn't want any alcohol nor sugary drink. I asked for a lime and soda (plain soda with slices of lime) and got soda water with sugary lime cordial (for £2.50). My granddaughter wanted sausage and beans her favorite foods being only 2. No beans in the house though so the only other thing available was bolognaise based pasta which she had difficulty eating as the high chair was about 2 inches lower than the table. One fishcake salad was requested and the fishcakes unbelievably like some frozen ones that can be bought on the high street. The adult food was quite expensive as a brunch burger for £16. No side salad and a few string chips. The roast of the day that was purchased was pork, which had sadly not come from a roast pork joint.

As a resident of Newport, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that The Swan had undergone a much-needed takeover and refurbishment. The overall transformation has been impressive. While I've had some meals that were good and others that were just okay, the standout aspect is the warm and friendly staff. Their genuine hospitality makes a visit to this establishment worthwhile. So, if you're in the area, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

On the night, Richard greeted all the guests on arrival & we were looked after Steph the waitress in the function room. Richard, Steph & all the staff looked after us brilliantly on the night. We recently had Sunday lunch here. Probably the worst I've had for quite a long time. My parents have been several times recently and found it ok, but never for Sunday lunch. The starters were fine, but when the roasts arrived they looked extremely unappetising, with the veg looking very limp and grey. The roast potatoes were precooked, not uncommon, but also not enjoyable - hard, dry and without nice texture. My gravy, served on the side, had a skin on it when it arrived, was lumpy and inedibly salty. The beef was very chewy. A good five minutes on one mouthful. I appreciate that people like veg cooked differently, but the days of cooking veg till it loses colour and dissolves have passed. The peas had the greyish colour of the dried broad beans we used to play with at infant school. The tenderstem broccoli was also overdone. My roasted carrot did have a green centre, the greenest veg on the plate. It isn't difficult to knock up just an average roast, so you really have to try to get it this wrong. I never leave food, but all the roasts were sent back half eaten. In retrospect some signs were there when we arrived, sticky floor, sticky table, food on the floor underneath, but I put this down to perhaps a busy Saturday night before and failed to see it as a foreboding of a lack of care and attention. The waiting staff were very good about knocking something off the bill, although the ease with which this was done may suggest it's a regular occurance.

I think this is the first time I have ever given a poor rating, so it must be bad. I have been coming every Christmas for three or four years with about twenty friends. It seems to be getting worse. One set of twinkly lights and two red bows on the wall do not set the Christmas scene for me, and I think I would have dressed the table better than just a cracker at each place. For a meal starting at 1pm the starters came at 1:25pm, but no complaints about the pate. The table glasses were appallingly smeared (something I have complained about before) and I couldn't get the old food from my spoon and asked for it to be changed. The carvery meat was generous but dry, and the vegetables were not very tasty. If there was any cheese in the cauliflower cheese I couldn't taste it. The puddings (I had an individual Xmas pud) were adequate but very plain. Coffee was not included in the price so when I ordered some, it was cold. One of us complained about this but was told that was how it came out of the machine. The milk never did arrive. The mince pies came so late that some of our party had left by then. This restaurant needs to take a long look at its menu, its customer service and its staff training.

As former regulars who hadn't visited for some time, we tried The Swan on a Friday evening, and were surprised that there were only three other cars on the car park. We ordered two fish and chips and a curry, which arrived promptly and were very good. Since it was so quiet I mentioned to the assistant manager that I wasn't too keen on the wooden boards (one with a knothole) on which our fish and chips were served - I had made the same comment on our last visit when a burger had been served on a board, and had been told that others had made the same comment! In fairness the meals looked great, with peas and chips in little buckets (one of which got knocked over, so my wife lost all her peas), but wooden boards strike me as a hygiene risk - by a strange coincidence The Times today (6th January 2018) carried a report that a steakhouse in Birmingham has been fined £50,000 (yes) for continuing to use boards which the court said were a health risk after 14 diners fell ill. I was told that if we had asked, we could have had our meals on a plate, but of course we had no means of knowing that the food would be served on boards. Then I mentioned that we'd tried to find the menu on their website before leaving home, but whilst it mentioned their Christmas menu, there was no way to access their usual dining menu. I thought that the staff might not have realised there was a problem with the website, and would want to know. The assistant manager politely explained that the menu was due to change in three weeks anyway, and there were only two staff who could change the website. The "explanation" seemed so daft it was'nt worth responding, but might help explain why a place with pleasant staff which seems to serve good food seemed to have had no more than a handful of customers on a Friday evening. Doubtless we'll visit again, but will ensure we ask for our food to be served on plates, if that's not too outrageous.

We only live a mile or so from here and it is our nearest pub / restaurant so it really should be our local. However, until last night we hadn't visited for over 2 years. Last night reminded me why. 10.15 of a Friday evening and there's six people in the place and that's including ourselves. What a drab and dreary place, and such dated decor. They have two real fireplaces.......but seemingly prefer to use an electric fire. There's paintings of dogs all over the place......but they don't allow dogs. It's a dated chain restaurant mentality masquerading as a country pub. We didn't eat but I suspect if you're posting reviews on here about how good the carvery is, then (no offence) you're probably over 75. Just awful.

Nowhere to sit and had to stand near doorway. Prospective customers were putting their heads in and leaving. In my opinion they had accepted more reservations than they could cope with. When we were allocated our table there was then long wait to be served. Lunch selection was good, plenty of meat and selection of vegetables, but not very hot.

Called in here at lunchtime today (Monday 16th October) very warmly greeted and had a table for three in the Atrium part, drinks arrived quickly after ordering as did the food, our friend had a carvery meal and was well pleased with it, i had steak with two eggs and chips, this also was very nice,And wifey being American had a really nice Burger, I have always liked this place although it has been a good while since our last visit, i like the olde world charm of it's interiors and it has a nice ambience, well worth the run out from Dawley,Telford, and we will soon be returning.

Tired of trying this place... it's always busy but the manager is rude and I can't say the food is that nice to put up with the hostility.

Six of us came for a family treat and all had the carvery. Delicious food which was hot and boy, there was enough of it.Everyone enjoyed it and great meal out. Only minor downside was drink prices seemed a tad high but still a great meal.

Visited with 4 adults and a child.Choose the Monday madness offer on the carvery. The carvery was excellent, hot, choice of 4 meats and a great selection of vegetables. However we had finished our meal and waited and waited to get the waitress to give us the sweet menu. Then again waited until I actually asked her to take our dessert order. Had to wait an unacceptable amount of time for 2 desserts to arrive, not very swiftly followed by a 3rd. We had ordered 4 ! The waitress checked what we had ordered, apologised for the mistake and said that last dessert would be complimentary, nice gesture of good will. However we had ordered 2 coffees which failed to arrive until after we had finished all our desserts. The food was very nice and exceptionally good value, I would suggest that they have more staff when the offer is on or remove the offer. Poor service ruined an otherwise goid meal.

We called in early evening midweek and the pub was very quiet which was a bit off-putting at first. However the staff were friendly and attentive and everything was on the menu. I had the lamb shank off the main menu and my partner had the chicken with mushroom sauce off the specials. Both were freshly made, piping hot and very tasty, everything was cooked perfectly. The desserts are also homemade which is nice in a world of ready-made bought in pub food. Well worth a stop if you're in the area.

Good value, good food in good portions. We popped into the Swan for Sunday lunch. We checked and reserved a table since it can get very busy. We had the corned beef hash starter, very tasty. Then the carvery for mains. Good portions of beef and turkey served. A very wide range of vegetables to accompany, all really well cooked. An excellent meal and helped by very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended.

Visited for lunch at this popular and busy carvery. I was impressed by the quality, especially the freshness and wide selection of vegetables. I particularly noticed that whenever there was a pause between customers the chef covered the meats over with foil and all the vegetable pots had the lids replaced. Not often you see this.I was eating alone, but had I not asked to be moved, I would have been seated around a corner without any view whatsoever, when tables were available at that time in the conservatory. Hope they have not succumbed to the restaurant trend to seat solo customers at the least popular tables.Well worth a visit

There was a choice of two meats from beef, pork, ham and turkey available on the lunch time we visited. All looked appetising and the two meats we had were tasty and tender. The vegetables were hot and there was a good choice. Very good value for money at £7.45. The carvery dessert was also good value. Unsurprisingly there were a good number of diners for a mid week lunch.Service was good. The only thing that prevented an excellent review were the roast potatoes, which were pale and had hard edges and the stuffing, which we weren't keen on - didn't taste like sage and onion. But these were personal views which may not have been expressed by other diners! On the other hand, the new potatoes were excellent, as was the remainder of the food. We will certainly return and highly recommend the carvery and venue.

We hadn't been to the Swan Inn for a good two years and the moment we entered the place we were recognised and greeted by the staff, which was lovely. The place was pretty full which is always a good sign. There is a good varied choice on there menu, but as always we chose the carvery and it was still as lovely, a great choice of meats and vegetables and tasty gravy. Unfortunately we didn't have any room left for one of their desserts, but we saw other diners having them and they looked scrummy. It's welcoming friendly place in a prime location and well worth a visit.

I felt I must do this review as the meal I enjoyed last night was really good. A set menu had been arranged for a group of ladies. We all had chicken forestier. Tender chicken breast on a bed of nicely cooked vegetables in a tasty sauce. Everyone served swiftly. Choice of dessert and everything was well presented and I am pretty sure there was nothing left on the plates and dishes. Well done to all the friendly staff and mine hosts. Excellent way to encourage any of us to rerun with our families - I certainly will be back.

Dropped in ad hoc on Bank Holiday for an early evening meal - driven past a few times & noticed that the car park was generally quite full which is usually a good sign. We were not disappointed; lovely atmosphere; plenty of staff & a nice welcome. The carvery was excellent, we both had the beef which was tender & tasty - a generous portio of beef was accompanied with a good choice of veg - the only down spot was found here with completly tasteless carrots. All round a couple of very pleasant meals at a very reasonable cost - we will visit again & book a table next time!

Called in advance to book. On arrival we were promptly shown to our table - window seat in a bay/conservatory area of the restaurant. Decor was in keeping with an old inn. Starters and mains ordered for myself and my husband - I can happily recommend the soup and the pate, followed by lamb shank and pie. My food was gorgeous (husbands was good too). Staff were very professional and attentive. When we are back in the area we will be coming again.

Nice old coaching Inn, large bar & dining room, warm comfortable bedroom, ample car park. In spite it being beginning of May the weather was on the chilly side. The room was clean and looked over the car park. Thick towels, tea/coffee, shower in room.Ate with 2 friends in the evening, plenty on the plate! And home cooked. Seemed a popular place. Went into to Newport afterwards to the New Inn, which was very busy. Had one drink there then returned to the Swan at 10.30pm, to find it had closed. We had a key to get in, and all was quiet and peaceful!Had a good English breakfast in the morning, 10 others also down for breakfast. Left by 10am. Handy B&B for visiting Harper Adams University.Had a walk around Newport, on Sunday morning. A lot of nail bars & estate agents on the High Street, and not much else. Boots, M & Co and Costa coffee were the only places open. Waitrose is off the High Street and we found Aldi out of town.Had lunch at the Fox Inn, Chetwynd Aston, near Newport, very good. Sunnier day, lovely garden, nice food, but service a bit slow.

We went here for Sunday lunch and found it to be excellent. We had starters, I had Pate and my wife had a prawn cocktail. Both very nice, there was so much Pate I could have just had it for my lunch. We then went for the carvery which had 4 different meats, beef, turkey, ham and pork. I had beef and turkey, my wife had beef and ham. The meat was excellent, they put so much on I struggled to eat it all. We had roast & boiled potatoes, Yorkshire pudding, sprouts, carrots, peas, red cabbage etc.We had no room for dessert, there was quite a good selection, and quite frankly if I had one I think I would have exploded.

My wife and I were given a warm welcome and shown to our seat in the bay window, which was super. We opted for the £5.00 main course menu. Once we had told our very pleasant and helpful young waiter, we strolled up to make our choice. My wife had the ham pie and I had the fish pie. There was a good choice of vegetables to help ourselves from. We had a very tasty and well cooked meal for a fiver each. Most enjoyable. I don't think we will be cooking too often on Wednesday nights now!
