Winstons Fish Bar in North Somerset

Returned here after a lovely meal a few months ago. It was like a different restaurant. The Cod’s roe on my first visit was perfect so I ordered the same again. How disappointed I was. The batter was soggy and the cod roe was wet and had liquid coming out when I cut into it. The staff didn’t really know what to do when they asked if everything was alright with my meal. I said no and explained. Asked if I wanted anything else - I said no so he replied enjoy the rest of your meal! Expensive plate of chips! Won’t be returning. No offer to recook or a refund.

We couldn't have asked for more - we were a group of 20, with half of the group in wheelchairs. They did everything they could to accommodate our group and made us all feel welcome and comfortable. The food was delicious, and we ordered a lot of different items off the menu! The portions were just right! It was also really quick to arrive given the quantities, and it all came out at the same time. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We really do highly recommend Winstons Fish Bar!

I came here for lunch with my family today and we will not be returning. The members of staff operating the takeout till were rude and gave us an unpleasant experience. My family had to wait for the two members of staff to finish their conversation before acknowledging us and finally taking our order. The gentlemen wearing glasses took our order and was very sarcastic and disrespectful. After we placed our order we waited for our food to be prepared and all we could hear was the same two staff members swearing and shouting and having inappropriate conversations, to the point where we had to take our little one outside to wait as it’s not what we want our children to be around. The same gentleman who took our order kept making crude jokes and it didn’t give the business a good image! Once we had received our food, we were also missing our drinks. The food was exceptional and it is a massive shame we will not be returning due to the staff members. I hope they can resolve this issue as my whole family thoroughly enjoyed the food.

Awful food 15.50 for a LARGE fish and chips seen bigger mini fish opened the curry sauce it was warm water🤮 joke rip off avoid at all costs

Just walked in and had F&C for three adults plus two kids meals. Good food well served, with very short wait time. good value all round.

Seemed like a lot of money to wait a long time for some pretty average food. The person serving us couldn't have been less interested.

Very disappointed, ordered veggie burger and was advised they are cooked in the same fat as chicken ! Proceeded to order fish and chip takeout at £12.50 each for family, portions were ridiculously small , fish was like a mini fish , when we asked why the portions were so small , we were advised that they had used all of the cooked chips available, this was 6 pm Saturday evening! We then understood why the couple in front of us asked for a full refund after opening their fish and chips !

I popped in with my 2 very sandy and very hungry children today and we had the best time. We were so well looked after by the team who went out of their way to welcome us and have a lovely chat. The food was fresh, tasty and came quickly, we all left full and happy.

Had the misfortune of visiting Winston’s today, could eat only about a quarter of the chips! They were black, green and some hairy, having just moved to the area, I will be avoiding this chippy at all costs, I won’t be able to recommend to any visitors, a shame as it’s a short walk! With the competition in Weston I don’t know how they’ve survived! The young man behind the counter was extremely polite and gracious, get a new job mate, your wasted there!

Used to be lovely but now it's your average overpriced chippy. Service and food used to be so much better. There's cheaper chip shops along the seafront of equal and better standard. Price increased and service and quality decreased unfortunately.

Winston's is not was it was! This used to be an excellent fish and chip shop / restaurant but on a recent visit it's obvious that it's changed hands. The fish tanks are no more. The food was average, forgot my peas and charged £2.50 for half a cup of tea....and for some reason you have to pay before you eat now, when I asked why the did this i was told it was to do with being busy in the summer and the air-conditioning!? ...no we didn't understand it either. Very disappointed that it is not how it used to be. Won't bother to return again sadly

We did our annual visit from Gloucestershire to Weston for our post Christmas fish and chips. Sadly the offering was well below par. The chips were very hard and the fish portion was small. Very disappointed.

Seniors fish and chips deal was quite enough for my husband I had a cheese ploughman's, So much and what a variety. Could not eat it all but what I did eat was great. The assistant who served us could not do enough for us. We always go there when we visit W.S.M.

A day trip to the seaside isn't complete without Fish and Chips and these were very good, two portions of fish and chips and a veggie burger and chips along with a couple of soft drinks came to well over £30.00, edging towards £40.00 which is a little steep in my opinion. Very good, but at a price.

We have ate here numerous times.on visits to Weston. It is a great chippy with huge portion sizes. Well worth it if you are in need of fish and chips.

Prior to visiting family in the UK, from California, we were looking for good, authentic British fish and chips. An old friend recommended Winston's, so we made the drive there. It turned out to be the "Bank Holiday" Monday, at the end of August. That didn't bode well. However, as busy as it was, we were seated within a few minutes by our server, "JC" ( my apologies if I'm not remembering correctly). While waiting, I ordered a diet soda for my wife and my mom, and a pint Thatcher's cider for myself. Given how busy they were, I wasn't surprised that we had to wait for our food, but we weren't in a hurry, so it was fine. Our order came out after about 30 minutes ( faster than I thought, under the circumstances) and it did not disappoint. At all. My mom had the burger and fries, while my wife and I both had the fish and chips. I have to say, it was probably THE best fish and chips we've ever had. The fish and fresh and cooked just right. Light and fluffy, perfectly filleted, in a batter that was crispy and crunchy, and not at all greasy. The chips were equally light and fluffy on the inside, but crispy and golden brown on the outside. My only regret was that I didn't have room for a second portion. Hahahahahaha. The order was just the right amount. We were full, but not stuffed. If we are ever in the west of England again, we will make it a point to return to Winston's for their fish and chips again, even if we have to go out of our way.

2 pensioners on a tight budget! wanting a holiday treat saturday 2 00 pm walking by winstons fish bar, must say a true gem! Tried to get gluten free fish & chips which is offered on menu. Westons do not do gluten free. Disappointed

Dined outside in the restaurant area and waited 4 minutes to even be given a table due to staff ignoring our presence, and this was not for the only time during time spent here. We’re told they would bring a menu, which after 5 minutes of waiting at our table finally got given them, only because we asked the 2 staff, interrupting them from their sword fight with the cutlery whilst the other was wiping down tables that hadn’t even been occupied. Not one mention by any of the staff that we were then to go to ‘counter’ to place order, at which point were left standing at said counter, totally ignored by server whilst she poured the drinks of another table. After another 5 minute wait, Ordered food for 4, 2 meals came out at least 5 minutes before the next 2, and in all honesty, the cod was totally tasteless and definitely not worth the £14.30. How this has been voted ‘Best beachfront Fish & Chips shop’ is beyond me, went to Puffins couple months before and much better service and price.

Ok, so location is good ,however, the price for a standard fish and chips £14.30!!!! This was so overpiced its un-real!!! I almost fell out of my chair! Its almost £10 more than most on the sea front! The usual one opposite the pier is £6.95. The only reason i paid for it was that i was with my elderly parents and it was a little too windy for them to sit outside and enjoy. When the food came, this fish was average the chips were average, the drinks! £1.80 for a small bottle of ginger ale! No mushy peas, had to ask for tartare sauce, i mean for £14.30 i was expecting whistles and bells all in! I will never return to this over priced packed in like sardines place again!

Lovely clean restaurant.All staff members very friendly but professional and hard working.Fish and chips fantastic as were drinks and sides.We did not wait too long for food although we went in just before the lunchtime eat in rush.The food was piping hot when brought to the table and the chips were some of the best tasted in a long time .Would recommend highly for a sit down eat in meal .

I can honestly say do not come to this fish and chip shop if you walk in and order takeaway. I order fish and chips at 1.51pm and there was one person in front of me I didnt get my order till 2.22pm The worst takeaway service. Avoid it you want your food quick.

Arrived at the takeaway part of Winstons Fish Bar at 7.30pm on a Thursday evening to be told that most of the menu displayed they couldn't provide as they had turned off the grills. Asked for an Ocean burger (battered fillet of fish) to be told that they could only do things that needed frying! (Interested to understand how else a battered fillet of fish is cooked - person serving told me he didn't know as he wasn't the cook very rudely) Asked then for a Cornish pasty (neither needs a grill or a fryer but a microwave oven) to be told that they couldn't do that either. Left and went elsewhere. Won't be visiting again or recommending them.

Slow service, table had not been cleaned before we sat down. Table was right next to toilets, horrific smell every time people went in and out of them. We asked for ham, egg & chips but they had no ham. Chips were pale as though they hadn't been cooked enough and not very hot Very over priced 5 meals & glasses of pop over £71, won't be visiting again as much nicer chip shops in the area

Don't go if you are in a hurry. We waited nearly 45 minutes for our food. Very slow service. Very slow too at clearing away. Tables close by were left for close on 25 minutes. Food and drink spilt all over the outside seating area floor. A tad pricey too. On the plus side, the fish was delish. So fresh. The pot holding the cutlery, serviettes and sauces was unbelievably so rusty in the bottom.

expected this to be a good old fashioned good quality Fish & Chip restaurant in a seaside town, but what a disappointment. 2 fish & chip dinners & 2 drinks £37. Would not mind if it was good food & good service but sorry to say the fish was very watery so obviously not fresh but frozen, the curry sauce was also very watery so obviously instant sauce. would not recommend, there are so many other fish & chips restaurants to choose from in the vicinity I would suggest try one of those.

Great quality food with quick and friendly service but it still takes some getting used to the prices. £42 for two fish and chip dinners plus a kids meal. Can't fault anything about it as a normal seaside experience but one of our party remarked that the previous day we had a two course meal plus a pint at the local pub for less.
