The food was good and comforting, people were really polite and the tea had a great taste. I recommend trying there home meals who are worthy to try. And the spring roll were really good.

The best Chinese I've had in a long time. Egg fried rice on point. Perfect temperature and taste. Chicken + sweetcorn soup perfectly salty and thick- staff lovely, will be here again no doubt. Unbelievably chill atmosphere- can see why it's so popular. Highly recommend.

The so-called Hong Kong-style tea restaurant that deceives the world... Niu cypress leaves...the snow has not passed, and the smell is weird. Fresh bamboo rolls...salty to the point of nephritis Barbecued pork rice... Barbecued pork is like soaking in barbecue sauce hot spring. Shrimp intestines... It's hard to imagine that the shrimps in the UK are so flat and they have to give back so much minced shrimp meat. Zhizhu cooks pork belly rice over fire, Zhizhu doesn’t have enough time...it’s as hard as firewood. King fried noodles with soy sauce, even the soy sauce was not stir-fried thoroughly. It's boring to shout until death. The dry-fried beef river has no color...it's edible even if it's thick.

Stay clear of this place. What was served to us could best be described as a congealed slop. Restaurant was best described as dirty, service lacklustre (limited interaction from staff). There are much better offerings along Stowell Street & you would be advised to try them. This is one place that we will never cross the threshold again.

Food was horrible to be honest. The noodles tasted funny and the beef was fatty. The vegetables were soggy and in a wishy washy watery ‘garlic’ sauce which was tasteless. But I will say the salt & pepper chips were very nice. But everything else was terrible. Hence why 2 stars and not 1.

My experience eating at Wing Kee, first time was great, food was nice and friendly attentive staff but the TV volume was way too loud and ruined some of the ambient experience. The last time we ate the food was sadly not on par when we ate the first time, food wasn't as tasty hopefully it was just a one off day for the chef. The good points are they serve a good selection of dim sum items which are great for smaller appetites, they have free WiFi too. The prices aren't too bad for the big portions of food and they will deliver to.

I've visited Wing Kee a few times now and every visit has been great. The food is simple but tasty, portion sizes are plentiful and the price point is affordable (cheaper than a lot of restaurants around Newcastle). My only slight niggle about the menu is the lack of vegetarian options. The service and atmosphere are average - the decor is very simple, though the BTS posters scattered around are fabulous! I will visit again in future 😊

So I asked then to serve Stir fried Noodles in Chicken which was really good so ended up orrdering one more. Also I could find Veg/chicken Gyoza as starter in menu card. Wing Kee (Hong Kong Style Cafe) @ Chinatown, Newcastle Upon Tyne Being introduced to this spot by a friend, we were looking forward to getting food similar to home. This restaurant happens to be one of the few that serves Chicken Rice/ Duck Rice while having the meat displayed through glass panels (like back at home in Malaysia). 🥟With a wide variety of Dim Sum, we ordered the chicken spring rolls and also the chicken feet in black bean sauce. The spring rolls were crisp and nice. The chicken feet was surprisingly delicious and spicy! (I’ve never tried chicken feet before in my life, so this being the first time was actually pretty cool) 🍚 We ordered Chicken rice and Duck rice. The rice was oiled and seasoned nicely. The chicken, while being on the dry side, still was enjoyable. Portions, as always, are so big that I couldn’t finish my meal and had to order a takeaway. Complemented with Hong Kong Iced Milk Tea, the meal was really filling. The milk tea was lovely! The meal costs 27 £ for the both of us. Pretty worth it, especially for such a hearty meal!

The Wing Kee is very much a cafeteria as opposed to the more upmarket restaurants that are more common along Stowell Street, so it needs to be appraised in that context. So what you don't get are things like table cloths, a big drinks menu or a hot towel to wipe your fingers at the end of your meal. It is a cafeteria that also offers a takeaway service. You might also have to push past a range of items you generally don't get in typical restaurants (chickens feet, innards, tripe and gizzards for example) The food however is excellent, authentic and less adapted for the western palate, so most of the diners will usually be chinese people. Some might see that as a good thing. The Wing Kee is also differentiated from the other restaurants on Stowell St by both price and portion size. Prices are cheaper than the restaurants and the portion sizes are way bigger. We made the mistake of ordering (for a meal for 2 people) three starters and two main courses. As it happens they all arrived on the table at the same time, which we didn't expect, but when we saw how much food arrived, we knew we were in trouble. On reflection one starter between two people and the main courses would have been ample. I had the house special rice at £10.50, which was a large portion of egg fried rice topped with pork, duck, prawns, squid, scallop, chinese mushrooms and chinese greens. It was nothing short of delicious. Service was polite and quick. Having looked at the negative reviews for the Wing Kee it would appear most of them are people complaining about takeaway mistakes, which I assume will happen now and again at all takeaways. Mine is based on a walk in sit down meal.

I would definitely give this place 5 stars. My mum and I have been doing a tour of all of the restaurants in China Town and this is the only one I would say is really authentic, not just 'takeaway' westernised style. It's not a fancy restaurant, it is just a real, good old style diner. My first visit I had soy sauce chicken, it was served on its own and although quite plain was delicious. The second time I had the beef Malaysian curry noodle soup which was rich and full of flavour and a huge portion! The variety of dishes is huge, the char sui rice rolls were beautiful as well, I will definitely definitely be going back!

Since the lifting of lockdown restrictions I've still barely been out (I'm in one of the OG "STAY AT HOME OR YOU'LL DIE ARRRRGGGGGH groups), but being double jabbed and caking my hands in hand gel (I swear I don't have any fingerprints left), I decided to pop into Wing Kee. It has seen a refurb since I was last in. There are still the café style chairs and tables you see in some of the other reviewers photos, but they've now added booths alone the left and right walls with high backs. This is great if you're still wary about randoms being near you when dining out. Staff wear masks and are very attentive and polite, they too our order quickly. Between us we munched on a variety of dishes. I can't find any menus online, but it's typical Chinese café fare. We had char siu and crispy pork which was great, they didn't skimp on the pieces either. The duck was plentiful, loads of meat on there with a modicum of fat, it was cooked juuuust right, soft, moist, and tender. The cuttlefish cakes were also very nice, the restaurant had actually run out of the usual sauce that accompanies this and offered to pop out to get some. We didn't let them purely for our benefit, but the gesture was really cool. The salt and pepper pork chops were amazing, like the duck they were moist and tender and with a slight spicy flavour. The only let down for me was the squid in batter, but then I don't typically like this particular style of batter anyway. Plus drinks and a giant cauldron of boiled rice, this came to a shade over £50. A bit pricy for a lunch time, but it was split between three, and we did all leave full to the brim, AND there was food left over! Whilst it doesn't quite capture the "Hong Kong feel" (it was quiet, staff were great, and it was clean) it does do good, nay, great food.

Delicious Hong Kong food at reasonable prices. At £6.95, the lunchtime special is particularly good value. Otherwise, you can also order a selection of one-plate meals of meat/fish, vegetables and rice for £7-8 anytime. You can also order a la carte dishes as in other Chinese restaurants, but again, they're very good value compared to the other pricier restaurants on Stowell Street. I would particularly recommend the traditional Dim Sum selection, which is delicious. I lived in Hong Kong for several years and the food certainly tastes authentic to me. Clean surroundings, friendly staff. Excellent selection, even includes traditional HK street food. I like this place very much, and would definitely recommend.

Everytime where craving for Chinese food (Authentic). We always go to this place. The food is great, the place is like the one in Hongkong. Even the atmosphere of the place you really feel like you're in Hongkong.

This was the only Chinese with availability- should have guessed what was coming.....took 1 hour 15 mins for food to arrive, which was cold when it did arrive - two lovely staff on reception I must add- very helpful & apologetic- manager on the other...

Decent food for a fair price! Went there with no expectations, except for having authentic food, which was fulfilled. The staff was friendly and helpful, and even recommended dishes according to what we were hungry for. He even pointed out that things could taste different to our westernized taste buds (too salty/ too spicy/ etc). They also offer take away (most restaurants in Chinatown don't.

Made a bad mistake here. In the middle of Newcastle's China Town with a huge choice of restaurants and unfortunately picked this one.

Very poor food. All cold and tasted of old fat. Dim sum oozing the same old grey nasty goop. First and last time in Newcastle's China town. Also, every restaurant seems to insist on cash only... Why??? HMRC???

For many years, Stowell Street has been the beating heart of Newcastle's small but authentic Chinatown area, located between the Westgate Road and the St James Metro station, in the shadow of the ground of the same name, home of Newcastle United.

I honestly believe that if we hadn’t actually gone into the shop (reluctant to as it was packed and no one was wearing masks) to ask where our food was I think they’d still be in making it? Rang up. To be fair. They said they were busy. A good hour and half later still no food. This place has simply nose dived in terms of the service and food. I kid you not. It was literally stone cold when we got it the 3 minute walk home. What happened to it? It used to be good service and tasty food? Steer well clear unless you order several days in advance. Actually. Just stay well clear. Awful awful awful!!

Food was incredible. Drove past this place over 100 times when going into the gate car park and never gave it a chance. So glad I did. 3 of us ate here, every meal was absolutely perfect. Great chefs- kung pao duck was amazing. Will be back 👍🏼

Been with them for years never had no problems .suddenly there delivery drivers don't want to give you change , want to pocket it instead . Got half my order when I complained they were suppose to send me the other half. Never received it . Honestly disappointed in all the years I been with them , that the service is shocking . Taking over an hour also to be delivered . Then gets a reply back saying they been to busy to resend rest of my order . Your a joke

Walked in after theatre around 10.15pm tonight, not expecting much. All the other Chinese restaurants on the street were closed. Empty (expected at this hour) but great food reasonably priced. First meal of the day, so I had the fried seafood chow mein, beef in black bean sauce & peppers, then decided to add a char sui egg fried rice! Generous portions too and nice friendly staff. Will come back 👍
