Attended tonight and was welcomed by the staff, the food come out in decent time, the food was to decent standard cooked nice and presented good .

We had Christmas Day Lunch at The Windmill and the service was appalling we waited far too long between courses and when we complained we were told they were two staff down. When the food did arrive it was terrible and for what we paid each £65 it was disgusting. We will never be eating there again.

Went here on a Sunday afternoon on the run up to Christmas, This is one of our go to pubs when we are visiting family in the area. The food was very nice we had the 2 course set xmas meal. this was very good and we all enjoyed it the venue was warm and inviting, This time we did have an issue with the service when we ordered the coffees after the meal we order 8 hot drinks 4 of them came out after 15min then we had to wait another 20min for the other 4 after going up and asking for them. which was a shame as everything was very good upto this point. Hopeful just a one off as the girl was on her own at the bar. We have been here lots of time before and not had any issue.

If I could give zero star I would.the bar maid said the coke and soft drinks were cheap I actually spat the lemonade back in the glass. Ordering the food was painful, then the barmaid knocked a pint straight over me, I grabbed the family and went down the road to the black lake inn and had a wonderful meal

Cozy pub with plenty of parking, good ales friendly staff

My wife and I visited this restaurant last Sunday for a last-minute Sunday lunch, and unfortunately, it fell far below expectations. I’m sorry to say, Chef, but it was the worst Sunday dinner I’ve ever had. I can only hope the other items on the menu are of a higher standard. That said, the experience wasn’t all negative—the waiter at the bar was exceptionally pleasant, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. It would also be lovely to see the fireplace utilised to enhance the ambiance. Regrettably, we can only rate this restaurant an unfortunate 2.5 out of 10.

Fooled by appearances—this was the worst Sunday dinner ever. Everything was so dry it was impossible to cut through, and the gravy was overloaded with cumin or fennel seeds, making every bite taste like that. This was an absolute joke of a Sunday dinner. An absolutely complete disappointment for what it should of been a comforting meal. Such a shame. Service on the other side has been pleasant with a friendly staff at tills.

We went the windmill for medium and meal £20 if it comes round again don't bother 2 mediums the woman was ok the man was saying exactly the same and we walked out so bad lasagne was awful not worth the money

First visit, nice to see a busy community pub, very accommodating as we required a table to sit with our dog. Menu very good value. Service great. Plenty of TV screens to watch the sport. Will be using again. Returned 2 years later, still good does what you'd expect as a community pub.

Great pub, since new ownership has taken over the food has improved ten fold. Atmosphere is picking back up and the reintroduction of a juke box had really added to the pub.

We only went here as our original plans fell through. We couldnt have had a warmer welcome from the staff. Everyone we dealt with was really pleasant and efficient. My dietary needs were fully taken into consideration and staff went to great lengths to check my choices were suitable. It seems they had a good understanding of allergies etc. Food was very tasty, served piping hot and portion sizes were good. We havent been here for years but will definitely go again.

Been here before and it was great, however been since it's changed hands and it wasnt half as good. Went as a group for food and drinks. Food was cold, chicken was hard and didn't taste nice. Not a good selection of cocktails/ drinks, when someone on the table asked for a soft drink, we had the response 'sometimes it comes out good, sometimes it comes out flat and it's not real coke anymore.' The table we were on wasnt big enough for us all and 2 people had to go sit on another table so they had room to eat. Shame as this was a good place to go and have a good night before. We will unfortunately not be returning.

First time in over 30 years, don’t waste your time or money. Bar full of dirty glasses, tables not cleaned between clientele, bar staff more interested in chatting to the guys in overalls drinking at the bar, awful music, no separation between bar games and dining. Did not even finish our drinks and left. Very disappointing.

Don't go if you need gluten free food. There are no markings on the menu, they were unable to provide a separate allergen menu and when asked if anything was available, the staff just looked at each other blankly. Signs say ask ypur server, what a joke. Not even a basic awareness of food safety. Absolutely shocking.

Freshly cooked food quick service great staff

Food was very poor standard. I had the steak & ale pie chip peas and gravey. The pie was warmed up in the microwave, the pastry was all soggy and not chrispy at all, the meat in the pie was tasteless. Kids portion of chips. Wasn't worth £13. My partner had, fish chips and peas. The fish was tiny, just like a child's portion, and a tiny spoon of peas. That was £12. not value for money at all. Won't be going there again

Had lovely meal and staff spot on .Only suggestion is to get steak knives for steak eaters as normal knife not sharp enough

Food was good and cooked fresh. The chef came out and checked on a couple of items we ordered as she felt it may not be what we expected it to be which was good. Her thinking that was actually correct so instead of waisting food she cooked what we wanted. Brilliant service. Shame they were closing for a refurb so some things had sold out. Hope when they reopen they will still be as good

First time at the Windmill last night in many years and we weren’t disappointed. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by warm, friendly staff. It’s a very busy place and you can see why, the staff were all very attentive and the man that served us was extremely polite and had a great attention to detail. We ordered the Dorito sharing platter for starters, it was supposed to serve two people but there was easily enough for four and it was very tasty. My husband ordered a mixed grill which was cooked to perfection and I had a salad with a veggie buttermilk chicken topper, couldn’t manage a dessert, was way too full. We had a couple of drinks in the lovely beer garden before heading home. I would highly recommend the windmill, a great place to visit after a long week at work. Great staff, good food and a lovely atmosphere. Can’t wait to visit again.

After a very long day, we stopped by The Windmill around 7:30pm for food. It was our first time visiting and we are very impressed. It is a beautiful pub with an actual windmill on the grounds dating back almost 250yrs!! The pub itself feels very cosy, homely and comfortable. The locals that were there were also friendly. Upon arrival we were greeted by the gent behind the bar and we were served our drinks then went to our table. We ordered our food at the bar, which didn’t take too long to arrive considering they were quite busy with orders. We ordered an All Day Breakfast, Mixed Grill and the Bombay Burger. We also made amendments to the meals. The food came out exactly how we asked for it, fresh, beautifully cooked and nicely presented. Half way through the meal, we asked for extra toast for the All Day Breakfast and this wasn’t a problem. It came to our table a couple of minutes later freshly cooked. Overall, we really enjoyed our time at The Windmill and would definitely return. Many thanks to Stu (Manager) Dave (Bar/Kitchen) and Phil (Chef) for a lovely, relaxed end to a difficult day! 🙂

Was disappointed had lasagne very small portion tiny garlic bread and a bit of salad, good of them to let my 86 year old friend have a child menu very tiny unless you have a very small child wouldn't recommend it.think they should do a lunch time special menu like most places do they would get more custom the place was empty at lunch time.

Went in to watch football match. They have loads of tvs but only one with the match on. Which was right next to a band playing, and we had a dog. Paid for 2 pints of wainwrights and the beer was flat, tasted like it had gone off, wasn't pleasant to drink. To top it off a very loud rude woman shouting the whole time. Blonde girl behind bar wasn't very friendly when she took our order either

Went there with my son and Grandchildren for dinner lovely food.

I gave two stars as my partner really enjoyed his meal of mac n cheese burger but the rest of the experience sadly was negative. I ordered a club sandwich roll, particularly because it said it was served with mayo, I can get a reaction to some tomato based sauces so I stick to mayo just in case. My meal turned up covered in a tomato based sauce/salsa and I apologised but said i couldnt eat it and I ordered it because it said mayo. The waitress stormed away and looked at the menu, but couldn't say anything as I was right. She returned with the meal with mayo, I said thankyou for her trouble. The next thing, she brought the chef out and the two of them watched me eat it, scowling at me. I was made to feel very uncomfortable. Then I realised by the tingling in my mouth that the sandwich was the same one, only they had scraped the salsa off and had reapplied mayo, I could feel it, taste it and see it on the roll. I will not go back and I wouldn't recommend, that is a health and safety issue and they were so rude when i had been as polite as I could possibly be. Also, we were moved to another table by one of the staff who was trying to be nice and give us a quieter area. The same waitress as before then was shouting across the room to our waitress, they've moved. She did this twice as they didn't bring out a portion of chips for my son, his came later than everyone else's. Really not a good experience. At least two very rude members of staff.

Had to give all 5 stars food hot tasty , great choice and if your a lover of sticky toffee pudding you have got to try there’s …. I had the best one ever . Cosey , lovely ambiance . I Saved the best till last the staff …Darren the chef , Charlotte and Karen made our afternoon ,friendly and welcoming … will definitely recommend to friends and visit again .. Great little pub, great selection of drinks. Nice and clean warm. Brilliant service, and the food was amazing.

Haven't been here in so long untill tonight.. but i will definitely be returning. I had the smothered steak and it was cooked to Absolute perfection, hardly any fat for a rump which is a bonus! Gutted I didn't try the cheesecake but I'll be back soon for both. Lovely ladies on the bar also. Thankyou for a great meal.

Called in here having not been in for a few years. The food is plentyful for what you pay and decent quality. It's just the decor is in dire need of painting as I feel this reflects on the food prep area and kitchens when you see this 🤷🏼‍♂️

Very average food, the chips weren't great. The service was good but atmosphere ruined by screaming children running around the dining area.

staff were lovely and pleasant. But the lasagne was cold, watery, and tasteless.

Googled best roasts in the area and this place popped up so decided to split up a 5 hour drive by coming off the motorway for dinner here. Sunday dinner tasted amazing and very good value especially for such a large portion, I had turkey and was cooked perfectly with all the veg cooked with care, partner had the vegetarian option which was also great, ale tasted good too. Service was fast, chef, waitress and bar lady were all super friendly too and my dog was even made to feel welcome with treats, nice interior and clean pub, would stop off here again.

Didnt have food but enjoyed drinks

Jo and her team provided a buffet for my mother in laws recent funeral. The food was fantastic and plenty of it. She ensured that vegetarians and vegans were equally catered for. I couldn't have asked for more Thank you.

Came in here for lunch with friends over the weekend, and the service was awful . The young lady behind the bar wasn't very welcoming. The food was shocking the burgers we had we're just chucked on the plate with a few chips , I would have thought for the price we paid it would have come with maybe onion rings and coleslaw. Also the coke I had tasted like it had been waterd down. I'm sorry to say we won't be returning.

Been coming here for over the last 12 months we are local mainly after car shows / meets last 4 times have been a bit hit and miss and the last 3 times found the chef very rude today was the final straw his attitude stinks came out saw us table of 11 people and said to the girl behind the bar what they doing on that table it’s reserved she said not until 3.30 we arrive at 1pm she said you can gladly have it but I need it bck for 3.30 not the first time he has pulled his face as we always have around 10 to 17 of us going for food n drinks 2/3 times a month the food was shocking again today most of every plate was wrong in some shape or form to day like the last time we just put it down to a one off but today is the final straw he’s rude and the food said it all to day we will not be returning

popped in to use the toilet while waiting for work, the cricket was on the big screen so had to stay and have a coke. Service was good, friendly staff, few people there but atmosphere was fine. Would like to go back for a night out.

Booked a table for 5 for lunch and afternoon natter with family. Table reserved and food ordered, prompt service and good choice. Food all good and hot and then ordered puddings. All told, there from 1:00 pm 'til nearly 4:00 pm! Never chased us to leave and a nice informal meal and natter. Thanks to the staff!

The atmosphere isn’t the same here since the pub had a new Manager. Andy, Sue and the kitchen team continue to make you feel welcome and create a great atmosphere in the pub. Unfortunately the same cannot be said when they aren’t in, and the new members of staff do not share the same commitment to customer service. This is disappointing as this has always been our friendly, local pub which is now sadly lacking those qualities.

Booked for 17 people as a leaving party for our daughter, there were a mixed group from 1yr to 84yrs, and everyone was happy. Ordered from the 2 course for 7.99 menu and it was lovely. There was no wait hardly for the food. And everyone enjoyed themselves. 😊

Come full of expectation after reviews ...have to say didn't live up to standard i was hoping for ...I has mixed grill .exchanged the chicken for sausage...clearly states Cumberland sausage...it was just A normal pork sausage ...chips were terrible ..just cheap oven chips...wife had created yer own chicken breast ..well the chicken breast was tiny and I mean tiny ..cut it twice it was gone .... Worth the money. ?? No ..1st time going so won't completely destroy the place with a bad review but I won't go agen..

We just had our works Christmas meal here and have to say we were all very pleasantly surprised. Where we have been previously the food always looks and tastes like it has been rushed or sat for hours due to the number of people they are trying to serve in one night over Christmas, but this was very different. Great value for money, the food was excellent and great service, we will definitely be back again

Staff are very friendly and attentive. Food on the other hand is just average at best unfortunately. Nothing worth writing home about. Prices are also quite high considering the quality. If you have no where else to go then give it a try. But I wont be going back, and it's nothing against the staff as they were very welcoming. Did have to wait 20 minutes after we finished our mains for our deserts too.

Pints are more expensive than other places food is alright, pub grub. But recently it came to light that tips are taken from the staff.. Which is completey wrong. If you go there and want to tip the staff please make sure it's under a fake pretense. Incredibly dissapointed in my local... Unbelievable. Edit: tips to go into a shared tip jar to be used for staff soft drinks exclusively?

The food was tasty but COLD The staff were too busy moving chairs to attend when I tried to get their attention. I've since had 5 further meals here and they have been progressively worse. Disgusting food and if you can find the manager there's no point in complaining as he's not interested.
