Wimpy in Southend-on-Sea

Absolutely worth a visit! It was so nice to eat a meal that (took me back to the 90’s) The restaurant was clean , the food was freshly cooked , the staff were so friendly. Definitely go back again when visiting Southend .

Having not been to a wimpy in over a decade at least we thought we'd try something different and wimpy looked quiet around 4pm. Staff were very friendly and attentive and we took a two quarter pounder cheese meal deal with a coffee, some onion rings, and a water extra. We were quite impressed. It was like a decent quality kebab shop burger but with better amounts of salad. The ships and onion rings were hot and decently done. Nice and clean place so I can't fault them and their friendly customer service. My only odd criticism was the men's toilets. You descend into a dungeon kinda area and it's a dimly lit room with the weakest hand dryer in the world, lol. It was like the toilet from a backstreet bar in Thailand. Apart from that all good 👍. I'd return again to try something else tbh.

Sadly, the burger bun was really not nice at all. The added bacon was seriously salty. The chips were ok but not exciting. The tomato ketchup was poor.

Had classic cheeseburger but didn't taste the same as it use to also the milkshake wasn't the same. It t had bits of ice in it and not so fluffy.

My sister used to have this friend who was married to a bloke who's catchphrase was "You can't beat a Wimpy's!" He'd mention it every time you saw him so naturally when I finally spotted a Wimpy's for the first time in my 28 years I had to go and try it for myself. This one is in a dead shopping centre in Southend and closes at 6pm so you've got to get in there quick if you're after some tea. I loved the cheap greasy cafe vibe when you go in and to my surprise it was all table service! I thought it was a Maccy's kind of deal. The waitress I had was very friendly. I went for the Wimpy cheeseburger and chips which was £7.60. You could go double for £10.25 or triple for £12.15 but I wasn't feeling that peckish to be honest and thought it was pretty extortionate. The burger was very disappointing when it came. The beef was very thin and cheap, it was the width of a Mcdonald's burger so just a slither of beef. It was perfectly alright just not worth the price at all. You do get quite a lot of chips though and they were very nice. I suppose I'm more disappointed because this bloke was going on about how amazing it was so I had great expectations which were not met.

We popped in as was in town shopping. Sat down and was served by who seemed to be a pleasant waitress. Food arrived and was lovely.. The waitresses on the other hand, wasn’t so great! On hearing staff conversations wasn’t good when bad language was used ! We was enjoying our lunch but hearing young girls swearing and calling people D***heads wasnt so good.. Also on their phones behind the counter. I get it, people use bad language, nobody’s perfect but when you work with the public leave your bad language at the door! I don’t think I would want to take my son or my mum. Shame really because the food was lovely..

Charged £3.70 for a cola not large just medium & the coke was half full of ice then £4.50 for a medium milkshake!!! Shocking price hike 2 or 3 times the price of mcdonald's

We visited this wimpy restaurant today and were very pleased with the help and useful information on allergies, the man was very eager to help and even double checked for me before placing my order. High recommended if you have allergies as the menu was very in depth!

I visited this restaurant with my young family. My tired 2 year old started to get agitated so I decided to leave after dinner and asked to take their desserts with me (part of the kids meal deal) but was told I couldn’t as they had nothing to put them in. I said you sell food on deliveroo etc and must provide desserts with those orders & was told, yes but…….. I then asked to change the dessert to a milkshake and that was refused too. I complained to head office who advised me the restaurant was in the wrong and they very kindly offered me a voucher for a free dessert but I declined it as I don’t ever want to go back again. Such a shame as I love wimpy & was happy with the quality of the food.

I went in specifically to try out the vegan burger. The guy who served me and brought me the menu was very polite, friendly and efficient. There are not a lot of vegan options with Wimpy, in fact it's the only burger and you can have the chips/fries with it if you so desire. I opted for the standalone burger (£7:95) and a large diet pepsi (£3). When the burger arrived, in a very prompt timeframe, my first impressions were that it looked a tad on the small side considering the price. However it was a good tasting burger and most enjoyable. The overall service was spot on and the place was clean and well managed. Would I go back there again? No, only because the price rules that possibility out. I spent £10:95 on a small burger and a drink. The spoon up the road does a similar Beyond burger with a drink and chips for £6:95 or £7:95 with an alcoholic beverage. If Wimpy offered a more competitive meal price then I would definitely give it a whirl.

We use to love it here, the chef is friendly & food nice but the owner is a rude man! When asking if we could sit in empty chairs he said no go sit near the door. Serving a children's meal at eat in prices when it was for take away, when I asked about the drink with it he says Well you can have it if you want do you want it? as if he wanted to keep it! What an absolute shame we use to be regulars but the last couple of visits he is an absolute rude ar##h### & everyone comments how rude & ubrupt he is. He has spoiled a good reputation Wimpy..

Came here with my family for a nice meal to be told we were not allowed past the door until proven that we completed track and trace- was not an issue but manager was very rude when it came to that. A lady came in after and did not have to do track and trace so was confused. Our food came out and was okay but tomatoes and jelly was mouldy :/ manager shouting at his staff during this and even saw one girl cry and leave in hysterics. Manager then seemed very aggressive towards staff and was continuing to shout at all staff

I visited wimpy today with friends the food would lovely. My friend wanted to put a toilet but she was told to go up to the 1st on floor where there was toilets. I suffer from learning disability and my friend suffer with depression and society. To help my friend I went with her. Which was to calm her down. Went we got back the manager didn't ask whether my friend was all right or not didn't want to knowledge us. It took me about an hour to calm my friend down. He was no help at all in this situation.

Although the food in the past has been pleasant from here a few reasons why I have now changed my mind about visiting this restaurant would not recommend or revisit. A very wet takeaway was delivered from Wimpy via Uber when calling the restaurant the manager said if you don't like it come collect your self! (I'm not sure how you've got any customers left with this attitude) I then visited after shopping in town I was going to sit and eat but I was told if I was eating in I was to remove my mask only when seated in a rude tone (seating area not in the restaurant but outside in the plaza?)I decided to order takeaway but was greeted by quite a rude manager who then decided to put my order over the other side of the seating area for me to collect obviously he's been very awkward. My daughter 20 also decided to visit the same week and treat her 12 year old sister to food when seated the same manager said do not run around! (they was just chatting seated at the time, I think a bit of power has gone to this guy's head!) Take note..... Until now, the rules on face coverings in restaurants, bars and takeaways have been confusing (obviously for George from wimpy Southend) People won't have to wear a mask in restaurants or bars, because it is impractical to do so while eating or drinking (not that we will be returning to wimpy Southend Mr rude manager)

Wimpy Southend is a very professional operated restaurant. The staff are very friendly and the food is first class and tastes the same every time you visit . We’ve been 3 times now in lockdown and call in for a takeaway on our walks .

Quite lunch with my son. Served quickly even though lots of customers, food came to table within 10 minutes of ordering. 2 x quarter pounds with chip, large cola, large chocolate shake with cream £19- clean, fresh, polite staff. In & out in half an hour 10/10. We left happy & full.

This wimpy restaurant is probably the best for miles . The staff are very polite and attentive . The boss is very polite and very helpful and you can tell he wants you to enjoy his food . Definitely with a visit

Food is OK, service is OK. The gap at the back of the chairs is full of food crumbs and needs a good clean. Toilets are down a load of stairs and need an upgrade. It's not as busy as it used to be.

Waited at the till 5 minutes to order takeaway, cook served me & sat for 10 minutes while food was cooked. When home I opened 1/4 pounder to find brown lettuce not nice as I have always had fresh food from here in the past having removed it from the burger I must say I was put off visiting again. 6/10

This is my Mum's favourite place to eat (she loves a wimpy!) This is by far the best Wimpy out there. The staff are brilliant. The man in charge is always on the floor making sure the waiters and waitresses are seeing to customers promptly and they are all so friendly. I take my Mum here everytime we go to Southend (which is fairly often) and not once have we had any problems. The food is always piping hot and cooked beautifully. I would highly recommend this place!

My kids chose this place for contact, restaurant was lovely and clean, staff were very helpful and friendly. Food was cooked fresh and a lovely table service. We were not rushed in anyway and all staff were polite

What more can you say this is a classic Wimpy although this one was voted Wimpy of the year 2018 which makes it above average & you can see why clean, tidy with pleasant friendly staff & tasty food.

I have Been to this wimpy many times nice food although expensive but you do get what you pay for! Nice desserts too!

Came into this wimpy today. I always enjoy a wimpy but the toilet is disgusting wouldn’t ever use the toilet here again.

I was in Southend for a show and was going to visit Bella Italia, but having had a light lunch I was pretty hungry when I arrived, so swapped my plans in favour of a visit to a Wimpy. It's always nice to visit a Wimpy from time to time and this one was excellent. I was tempted by some of the seasonal specials, but in the end stuck with my usual favourites, the Special Grill and a Brown Derby for dessert. The service was excellent. One waitress was working, Sophie, and she was absolutely lovely; giving everyone her full attention and very polite, warm, friendly and sincere. I'll be sure to re-visit the next time I am in Southend.

Haven’t been to a Wimpy for around 30 years (feel old saying that) but this was a surprise, excellent service, food hot & really tasty, not sure on price (I didn’t pay) very clean restaurant, overall I’d go again & recommend.

Best in town only 1 to do coffee milkshake best in country friendly staff clean tidy. Know what your asking for been to 1 and they didn't know what a jacket potato was. Well worth a visit 😁

We visited this Wimpy in Southend and were not disappointed. The food was lovely and fresh, cooked to order and it came out of the kitchen in a timely fashion looking what it looked like in the picture. The other burger places could learn a lot from this!!

I went to the wimpy with my friend on Wednesday 26th April 2018 and I ordered a caramel milkshake which didn't taste like caramel at all and when the manager came over I asked him if I could change it for a strawberry milkshake and he said no I can't do that because it will go to waste and then he shouted at me and said what do you expect me to do with it and he said I can do you a strawberry milkshake but you will be charged for both I've been to other places before and ordered the same milkshake and they have changed it over for me straight away when it came to time of paying the bill I asked if I could get a discount and he only took £0.40 off for a extra which I only had a sip of the milkshake and I said to him can't you take some money off for the actual milkshake which he wouldn't do and then he said see my customers think I'm right and are agreeing with me which at this point made me feel really uncomfortable and also made my friend uncomfortable and made me and my friend cry never visiting this restaurant again I've never had someone at a restaurant be so rude to me and make me feel uncomfortable also to top it off he didn't ask my friend if she wanted ice in her drink and my friend turned around to me and said he's put too much ice in my drink I hope I can get a discount or something

Wimpy is great. Went with my 7 year old son, and we both love it. Burger and chips on a plate? Brilliant. Can't fault it and reasonable cost too. Will certainly be going back again and again.

Treated my mum to a lunch and was very dissapointed, it was understaffed, the drinks alone took 20 minutes to be served, the bugger i ordered was more grease than burger, thisnplace used to be great, such a shame its gone down hill so much will not be returning

Seated quickly, food served within 10 minutes, hot fresh made to order, discount for students. Been coming here for years highly recommend as you know what your getting. Only down side is the toilets are down stairs.

Visited yesterday, as always the best service from amazing hosts! We were shown to our table, brought over menus, the drinks and meals were served quickly. The meals well presented and piping hot! All out special requests (ie no onions, 7up in paper cup) were noted and delivered. I would definitely recommend, always made to feel welcome.

Family friendly restaurant. The food is always cooked fresh to order, without a lengthy wait. Good value for money with generous portions. The staff are very attentive, especially the manager George who always makes you feel welcome. The spicy bean burgers are my favourite here, no one makes these like the Wimpy. Great coffees too!

Friendly, family run restaurant. Clean and great service, my children love eating here and the staff are always friendly and accommodating. Any allergies or food intolerances are catered for, and the menu is full of tasty and healthy options. Highly recommend this place to eat as the menu will please all members of the family.

We like this Wimpy, always enjoy our meal here, staff are polite and friendly, restaurant is clean and always nice and quiet. It is lovely for just a quiet coffee and one of their nice desserts, my favourite is the doughnut and ice cream!!

Stopped off for breakfast this morning, always a yummy breakfast in here, the staff are friendly and nothing is to much trouble, my husband and I come here for breakfast quite often and we visit as a family for lunch/dinner sometimes too, always good, our Granddaughter likes it as we play a game of snakes and ladders or a different game while we wait for our food.

When the waitress bought our food over,she'd got 1 of the orders wrong,when we informed her,she was quite rude,asked her to change it,she moaned about us to the other staff including the manager,bought the food bk after scraping the food off the plate,was quite sarcastic bout us cos we asked for fresh food,

Been here a couple of times now, have had different meals each time I have been but have never been disappointed, had half pounder with free oinion rings and chocolate milkshake, It's all a little more expensive than McDonald's however I feel that it is just that little bit nicer, you wait while it's prepared so you know it's fresh and the table service is an added bonus, The staff seemed happy to help and very pleasant, can't fault it as a general lunch visit

The manager was sitting on top of the counter where food is prepared, and turning the tv on loudly whilst all of the staff stood and watched instead of helping customers. Food was good though.

I go in here regularly as it's such a pleasant atmosphere. The staff are lovely and the food is great> I especially love the Hawaiian Toastie, never come across this anywhere else. And the Mango milkshakes are delicious

Visited with my family, we didnt think there were any wimpys left. So we went straight in when we saw it. Food was lovely. Not to expensive and really friendly helpful staff. Wil definitely go back next time we are down this way

This place is one of my go-tos for a breakfast or lunch on a weekend. I've never been disappointed by the food which always comes in big portions, and the service is always very good.

I've been going to this branch of Wimpy for many years. The staff are always friendly and helpful and the manager is a very friendly chap.The choice of food and cost is what you would expect at a Wimpy, the quality is always good. What makes a place is not just the food but the staff running it and there very nice here.

You know what you're getting with Wimpy, and you get it here. Well cooked food served quickly at a reasonable price. What lets it down slightly is the manager, who seems a bit paranoid about customers sitting exactly where he wants them to when the restaurant starts to fill up.

These are my words only you may disagree!I used to have a Wimpey in a bun and the hamburger had a lovely taste to eat but now it just taste like a normal hamburger! Plus bun used to be plain but not now.Service was very good to start than it was very hard to get the waitress to get the bill it looked like the left did not know what the right was doing!But there friendly so you can live with it!But we will not return to this branch anyway.

Stumbled across this and couldn't have been happier! I love wimpy. They show you to your seat. I had the quarter pounder with cheese but it needed more sauce. The second time I returned I wanted a cheese burger but it was a quarter pounder with lettuce and tomato sauce, deeply unsatisfactory! As I wanted the old fashioned cheese burger they used to do. Twice I asked for extra sauce so either the didn't understand me or couldn't hear me as twice I never got any. Overall it's still a wimpy and will always be great in myEyes.

Used to be a really well run restaurant and service was always friendly and helpful with good food. Unfortunately although the food is still reliable the service leaves alot to be desired. The waitresses made us feel more like an inconvenience than customers with a curt "Anywhere!" when we walked in with so much as a hello or a smile. We then had menus thrown onto our table after sitting there for a few minutes and the rest of the service didn't get any better. When we asked for our table to be wiped, having mess on it from the previous customers; we were shocked to see that the second waitress was as happy and accommodating as the first. I understand people may not always be having a great day or they may be run off of their feet but in this case it was clearly the standard attitude of the waiting staff and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. A real shame considering Wimpy always used to be a reliable and friendly place to sit down to eat away from the mainstream of 'buy it in a brown paper bag' outlets in the town.

Oh dear, this was a wimpy to remember.The silly staff - all very similar, were so busy trying to make themselves important they completely lost the fact that - we were paying customers and they were supposed to be polite and helpful to us.I found myself explaining that if I wanted to sit by the window with my grandchild and 2 duaghters that we would in fact look after our little granddaughter and ensure that she didn't get chips pored all over her head or coffee thrown over her whilst she was sitting in her high chair. This conversation turned into a full scale row with the manager /chef coming over to our table to remark smugly that we could leave if we didn't like where we had been seated. Needless to say -we did leave.Oh well Wimpy, there your employees.A boats only as good as its captain .

We haven't eaten at a Wimpy for years!! So this felt like a real treat. The food was freshly cooked and delicious. The staff and proprietor were super friendly and the prices were competitive. Was a lovely diner-esque lunch.

I haven't had a wimpy since I was little, me and my other half fancied something different so we tried here. We loved it. Staff were friendly, although we didn't really know what we were doing so a little guidance would have been appreciated. We got our menus from the wall and thought that the prices were very reasonable. We loved that we could see the kitchen. The food was very tasty and fresh with big portions. Would definitely choose here over other fast food restaurants aka maccys in the future :-) xxx

I have been here many times . It's clean the staff are always friendly and the food tastes good . When I'm hungry I like to eat and the food is always fresh but cooked quick enough . The Wimpy good old faithful . Never gets boring .

went here for dessert after a meal somewhere elsestaff were freindly and dealt with us in a great manner 4 afters come to 9.20 which is great vaule.all were very nice and looked amazing

Don't ask for change in menu, they can't cope!!! Asked for them to leave something to be left out of a burger erm nope as it's a promotion, didn't want extra just leave jalapeños out... charge for mayo ridiculous. .. never again

Years since my wife and I had a Wimpy burger lunch so decided to treat ourselves. Half pounder and chicken in a bun just as good as we remembered them and we thoroughly enjoyed our lunch. Good service, nice touch is proper vinegar and sauce bottles instead of those infernal sachets!

Lovely service, food great, one of the only places you can order a bender and not get into trouble! Food always fresh and delivered to the table quickly, good offers too and staff point them out, lovely place to go with the family for good hot fast food! George the boss is friendly and helpful!

Lovely fresh food, pleasant staff. We have been coming here for 13 years best Wimpy in the area. Child friendly, only downside is toilets are downstairs.

So I'm a big zombie fan, and I'm love the Wimpy restaurant – this all came into fruition many years ago when I had a Wimpy birthday party in the restaurant and this giant character who called himself Mr.Wimpy blocked out the light infront of me, and in his siloette I had the song happy birthday sang to me by this galiant being. To the present day, I still sit at the same table and have the same Bender in a Bun meal I did all those years ago.Hearing of Brad Pitt's love of the Wimpy and in Essex filming the follow up to World War Z on the internet film forums AND VISITING WIMPY IN THIS VERY TOWN, I jumped on the bus and told the driver to take me right into town. I rushed into the restaurant, said my good mornings and patiently waited at the table. I had a lovely coffee to start with a nice pastry. After about an hour or so of pretending to be making my mind up on what to have as a main due to the stunning choice on the menu and I'll admit peering over the top of the menu to maybe catch a glimpse and even meet Brad himself I decided on the Bender in a Bun meal with a strawberry milkshake. I love how clean and friendly the staff are, as well as the cutlery!!! My meal arrived and as I was tucking in to the warm hearty meal I received a textual message from my dear friend username "Crepecrusher2000" to say Brad Pitt was actually at the Billericay restaurant and not this ruddy one and then went into our local the Red Lion for a couple of Sherberts!!! I was heartbroken, but at least I had a bender to keep me company!!I'll be back next month for more of those hot tasty benders.

Beautiful layout and furnishings. But sadly I must agree with a few of these reviews. Rude management. Lovely waitresses. Yes she forgot to take my baked beans off my meal. But it soon came back improved. ... However. The manager who was now throwing his weight around in the kitchen had cooked my replacement breakfast (where we were sat I could see) and had subtly hidden the cold back under a warm one. And when I cut into the tomato it was definetly off before it was cooked. So I sent mine back and just stole my bf's food. Hehe. While I was eating the manager kept glaring at me and shaking his head.... Very intimidating and not nice. While also shouting at his staff. 5* for the hash browns and eggs. 1* for the manager. I'm hoping he'll see these reviews and realise a few people are not happy with his service. But are with the waitresses. This is our 3rd bad experience at a Mr Wimpy. We're cutting the franchise completely out of our eating out list.

My friend and myself decided to lunch in victoria circus wimpy bar, what a mistake, the service was slow and when the bill arrived they had charged 40p for a coffee shot we hadnt had, when we queried the bill the manager said it was because we asked for 2 teabags. Unbelievable

We visited Southend for the day and after enjoying the local activities, it was time for a meal. We decided to go for a Wimpy, because it reminded us of our youth. We were not disappointed! Good service from very young staff, good valued food and immediate attention to a blocked toilet.Would recommend to others! Well done.

What a hidden gem! Came in here with my baby daughter for lunch. The staff were fantastic so attentive and helped out with my pram and high chair etc. Food was very quick and lovely! Will definitely return you can't go wrong with wimpy's!

Wimpy is wimpy a great british tradition where the quality is always very good. we visited in April family of four and all left happy and not as expensive as we thought. Keep it up!

Nice place to eat without the hassle of busier places in the High Street. Friendy Staff and very clean. I had a late breakfast where the eggs, bacon, toms, toast and beans were good... the sausages are consistently tasteless and dry. The plates could have been warmer and that is why I don't eat at Shoebury Wimpy any more owing to the cold plates.Hot chocolate was good and very hot.

Went on a Saturday morning for breakfast - as soon as we arrived we were ordered to take our child out of the pushchair despite us just looking at menu. Then we ordered jam and toast off the menu and he asked if we wanted butter so we said yes please and he said will be extra! Unfriendly and rip off but foods nice

Visited on Saturday afternoon, with the family. Food was served up very promptly and was piping hot. Restaurant was spotless and the waiting staff were excellent. Lovely quarter pounder, fries and Coffee. Thanks.

I went into wimpy for lunch and had a quarter pounder with cheese and chips. i always thought it was rather expencive in wimpy but found out that you can get two meals for £9.99. BARGAIN!! taste so much better then most burger places, a real treat.the best wimpy around keep it up guys!

Just popped in to my favourite wimpy for lunch great service and great atmosphere. Also noticed they do a buy one get one free breakfast before 12 which looked like great value

The food is very good, stafe are happy and swift. the atmosphere reminds me of "Dream Boats and Petticoat's" go and Check it out and meet George and his merry team. I dont know how long it is since I last used a "fast food" restaurant, so being short for time and having a choice of some four different styles I opted for the wimpy in the Victoria complex, in which half the units are empty! the reason for my choice was a nice clean Quiet!! eaterie where the eating was of proper plates,eating not with fingers!! but with proper cutlery and tea in a proper cup with teapot! I opted for the haddock cooked nice and hot with a reasonable portion of fish in crispy batter, nice crisp hot chips and fresh peas not overheated and wrinkled!! service was good with the main man running around like a whirling dervish! the dessert was syrup sponge and custard which even for my sweet tastebuds was ultra sweet and couldnt finish!!all in all a better experience than the other mainstream chicken and burger joints.The question is though how soon before I am likely to visit any of them in the future? just dont hold your breath because I will resist with all my being(lifes too short),

The most tasty breakfast in town and with buy one get one free I would be back more often. This restaurant is clean and quick, most recommended.

Went to wimpy Victoria plaza for lunch with friends. Great atmosphere as soon as you walk in the door. Great selection of milkshakes and hot drinks and the food was great very filling all in all a great restaurant

Honestly, what's not to love about Wimpy? Proper burger fare from your sixties childhood, served on real plates with real cutlery (and one of the very few places to do fried eggs properly and consistently) :) I challenge anyone who remembers having Wimpy as a kid to say they don't still taste exactly the same. The only downside is the price - only manage to go about once a year, as it *is* pretty expensive for what it is. But as an occasional treat, lovely. I can't honestly say it's just 'average' overall, so 'very good' it is.
