Superb food. Really cheap prices. Highly recommend. Friendly staff

We went to this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon at around 4pm, was told there was no roasts, that was fine but then when we tried to order from the main menu, we was told that they couldn't order cause his manager Luke told him he couldn't take the order. Was told to wait til 5pm and he would get back to us which he didn't. So when we went back up to the bar he got snotty and said that his manager has told him that he still couldn't take our order as they will be having 2 tables for 15 people and a table of 7 but there was no one in the restaurant. I'm sorry but it's unexceptable as we was a couple. 2 more people wouldn't of been a problem when the big parties hadn't even arrived. Also we was a guest at the Premier Inn next door. We won't be visiting again. We went somewhere else to eat.

The steaks are not consistent sometimes good and sometimes okay the cuts are not accurate

I stopped off here for breakfast on my way to a meeting. It was great. The food was all nice and fresh and well presented. A good selection of fruit, cereals, yogurts juices, and a beautifully cooked hot breakfast. Plenty of parking. The toilets were clean. Staff were friendly and efficient. I would definitely return next time I visit Southend-in-Sea. (Thanks, Jeanette!).

Decided to try strawberry field as the service at the nearby toby was appalling; such a difference at this beefeater; plenty of attentive staff on duty; food arrived quickly and was really enjoyable and good value. We’ll be back.

Family group meal, some items were unavailable, including gluten-free items which limited choice for a couple of people in the group. Other than that, it was a good evening.

For a Saturday night the rush to close the kitchen by 9pm really does not do this restaurant any favours. I felt like an inconvenience being there. Barked at to order in 15 minutes. Huffing and puffing because I had to look through for something that was actually on the menu, FIVE items unavailable from our tables first choices. I’d advise if the staff are so impatient about taking an order they let their customers know what is not available when they sit down, in the case of this restaurant, maybe a written list. Starters and mains all brought out at the same time because the kitchen had to shut by 9. Food poor for the price. Chips of all things over cooked Beefeater - need to sort yourselves out, or the management of this place. I would not go here by choice ever again. Recommend it is avoided. Problem is it is attached to a hotel we get sent to. Luckily breakfast is self service.

Went for a birthday 🎂 meal for 5 people. Service and food was really good 👍

Booked for new years eve 8pm, got a phone call the day before to say kitchen closes 9pm bar 10pm can you come earlier so changed to 7.30pm. When we arrived there was a notice on the door to say due to supply of food some things are off the menu, so why wasn't l told this when they phoned me. We looked at the menu quite a bit had been crossed off. We had starters of prawns and cheesy potatoe wedges. I had sirloin stake with chips cold peas and one burnt tomato nothing to replace the mushrooms, My husband had the mixed grill that wasn't very nice they forgot the chicken it come out on a separate plate and was very watery. We've been to this Beefeater several times and it's been fine. Won't bother going back after this experience.

Hugely expensive, and nothing like the photos on the menu. Honestly skip this and go elsewhere

Excellent service food out of this world and plenty of it. Very sharp on there allagies and do point out in case you miss it. Staff friendly helpful nothing to much trouble for them thank you very much for making our day worried free and enjoyable xx

I booked a table for 5 people in November for Christmas Eve. I checked menu on website and looked good. We had visited Christmas Eve the previous year and decided to go again.vWhen we arrived, there was a notice to say that due to supply issues some items on usual menu not available. We were given a paper menu. We were very upset at not being contacted and advised prior to our booking , especially as it was Christmas Eve, we may have been able to make alternative arrangements. We ordered. The Starters of Fondue and Patte the menu said that we would be served with Ciabatta bread ....We had thin slice of white bread toasted on one side. Our original waiter appeared embarrassed at what he was serving. Our mains were mostly Sirloin Steaks served with cold peas and mushrooms and dried grilled tomatoes...By the time we got to the desert i had to complain enough was enough, the Sticky Toffee pudding was more like a treacle pudding. At this point Our waiter had finished shift and he was replaced by a very rude waitress. I asked her to return the desert as I thought there had been a mistake. She returned with the desert and said no, that's the right one and just placed on the edge of table. I was so disappointed at this whole situation. I paid our bill and left. I will never use this Beefeater again.

Booked online, on arrival found out a limited menu due to supply issues, handed a VERY POOR PRINTED limited menu, was going to walk out. Staff are friendly and food was very nice, waiting time wasn’t that long. Managed to serve all the food in good time. Seat cover could do with a deep clean, very dirty with drink stains. Lots of parking available.

hi i booked table for a family meet up before xmas we had to change a few chairs at our table as they were uncomfortable, id booked with plenty of notice requesting a certain table as two guests use walking sticks but when we arrived people were on the table so ended up on another table which was ok waitress was very nice and helpful toilets are down stairs and has disabled one, plenty of free parking but remember to do your car reg entry in the restaurant 3hrs max so we ordered our starters prawn cocktail,pate, mushrooms,garlic bread, all happy with the starters mains was turkey xmas dinner,salmon,chicken stack ,burger........ well the turkey dinner was bad ,ive never seen roast potatoes so squishy and deeply fried,frozen brussells,and yorkshire didnt taste nice so complained and was refunded, shame as if the cooks had cooked the meal as they should have there wouldnt be a customer saying id never come back the salmon was tasty,no complaints of other meals helped we had voucher with money off

Booked a table online hoping to enjoy their christmas set menu. all menus available online. Arrive and handed a poorly printed paper menu they were serving due to “supply issues.” This is understandable but there was nothing on their website and they didn’t even have prices on the menu they were serving! We walked out past the man who seated us and he didn’t even ask if we were okay!

Apparently booking only, nothing to say this on website. Travelled 20 mins only to be turned away even though restaurant was almost empty!! Incredibly poor service.

Visited on 16th August, and was very disappointed with all of our three main courses. So will be giving it miss from now. Hence don't know where the five stars came from.

Beautiful coeliac breakfast I have coeliac disease & eating can always be a bit of a worry because of cross contamination. We were served by the lovely Jeanette who is very knowledgeable about coeliac disease & I don’t have to worry as she knows exactly what I can’t eat. She brought me out a delicious hot breakfast cooked perfectly by the chef, with amazing poached eggs Highly recommend coming here if you need to eat gluten free, you have a wonderful selection of food to choose from. Jeanette is very good at her job& makes sure you have everything you need. Beefeater…. You have such an asset with Jeanette as wait staff, she has such knowledge on all the different allergies you cater for. You got lucky when you employed her.

My daughter stayed at her friend's and enjoyed going to the breakfast so much she begged us all to go the following morning. Food was cooked perfectly staff was Really nice (jeanette - camreon - raff) 10/10 from us

Went out for a meal with my partner and was seen to by Claudia and was such a great evening. Claudia was extremely tentative and can’t wait to go back their soon.

Our meet'an greet'a was very warm and welcoming. Our server was very attentive, professional and friendly. Fish and chips excellent. Grilled chicken salad, below average. Whether the cleaning products at fault or lack of use but all surfaces were sticky. Other customers very dissatisfied and questionable as to whether their complaints were dealt with by management accordingly. Saturday evening was very slow service but restaurant was 1/3 full maximum. Advertised online as 23:00 closure, bar closed at 22:00. Manager said, been same since January, however still advertised 10 months later at 23:00 but not addressed. Many things were less than adequate but no attempt by management to address issues other than to demand an apology from a customer and then 2 pints free, goodwill. No wonder so empty on a weekend. Greeting staff 10/10 Waiting staff 10/10 Bar staff 7/10 Manager needs to understand the meaning of customer service and how to address complaints candidly, recognise inadequate standards and then to support staff in their duties. Will not retirn

Family breakfast amazing again, so much choice which my daughters love. From pancakes to cereal and a hot breakfast. Amazing job

We had a meal deal & ordered potato dippers & garlic mushrooms. The mushrooms were ok, the potato dippers were chips covered in cheese & spring onions & were tasteless. We had a steak & vegetable lasagna, the steak was okay but again tasteless, the lasagne was microwaved to an inch of its life & also tasteless. The waitress did advise that sometimes they get a bad batch in!! We also had the breakfast...which while value for money was chaotic & disorganised. The staff were unfriendly & clearly did not like their jobs. They appeared to be unhappy at replenishing stock or if anyone asked them where something was. Children were running wild & touching all the bread & pastries with seemingly no parents taken responsibility. The coffee machine served half full warm coffee. We would not return. The hotel however, was good value for money & clean.

Just had to write a review inspired by exceptional customer service received from Jeanette and Sam. Both staff were so friendly, helpful and just so warm in nature; they really brightened our day and are such a credit to the company. They clearly enjoy their jobs and are part of a happy team. They demonstrate how you can really make a difference in any job at all; please ensure they receive due credit and our thanks.

Admittedly we were a big group but service was slow and the meals when arrived only luke warm. I'd say staff were fantastic it's company thar short staff restaurant

I'm a bit fussy but the lamb roast was beautifully pink. Everyone on our table was happy with their food. Freddie was very personable.

Went for a snack at lunchtime with friends.The table felt very sticky. I had fried halloumi which was horrible.Very greasy and salty. My 2 friends didn’t enjoy their food either. I didn’t complain as the waitress was very nice and didn’t like to make a fuss. Never again

First time in a long while that we had been here and it's still average at best, I won't be back for a long time again, food is 2 / 5 whoever puts the rub of flavouring on the ribs should taste them, so much ground pepper it burns your mouth and then cover it in bbq sauce, not a great combo.

Loved the place little cold sitting u der air conditioning but a quick ask and it was turned off.

Visited 8pm on a Saturday night. Felt slightly rushed as we were advised the kitchen was closing at 9. Other than that food was nice.

Great food great service came in for a bit of grub and really enjoyed it. They have bt sports too which is a plus as can watch the football whilst eating my mean by the bar.

We went here Saturday night. My other half was working a night shift across the road so we booked the latest table offered on the website - 9pm - upon arriving we were informed that the kitchen closed at 8.45pm! Manager wasn’t sure why the website let us book a table for 9pm and when my partner checked his email a cancellation had been sent through but he hadn’t read it as he assumed it was a confirmation. However the chef came out and said he could make us anything that needed to be done in the oven. So I had a grilled chicken burger and my partner had the ribs! (Both good). We were so happy that they did this to accommodate us as we were pushed for time and there are no other restaurants nearby (we didn’t fancy a meal deal for 2 in the car park haaaa)! When we went to pay we were told that our meal was complimentary due to the inconvenience at the start (tbh we were more than happy to pay as was just relieved that they fitted us in)! The manager had gone home by this point so we were unable to thank him personally for his kindness - also a big thank you to the chef for staying later too. We do eat here often as it’s local to where I live and so there’s no doubt in saying that we will 100% be back. BIG THANKS AGAIN! xxx

Nice for midweek meal not too expensive. Parking is good. 3 Hours free as long as you register the car when you go in. Good atmosphere and good service

My son & I are staying at the Premier Inn next door, so went to go to the Beefeater for dinner. The Premier Inn website says it has an in-house Beefeater. Waited to be seen at the reception & seated, but got told in a rude manner that we are only taking bookings. Now if the restaurant was full we could have understood, but the restaurant wasn’t even half full & there was nobody else waiting to be seated. We won’t be back at the Beefeater even though we have a couple more nights booked, we’ll take our custom elsewhere.

A very good lunch at a competitive price

A party of 11including children when the self service buffet was out if action awaiting repair. The staff, in particularly Lucy, were amazing as they had to bring everything to our table, including re stocking, and were cheerful and obliging throughout what must have been a stressful time.

The general manager was out standing and caring even though he was under a lot of pressure he took is time to make sure me and my family was well look after . This was the stand out thing about my stay thanks

What a massive disappointment, how is that place still open. Seats were ripped and sticky, table was stickier than 3m tape. Food was bland almost like the chef had given up.

Apparently didn't have a table for two as fully booked even though there were empty tables ?

Great service and went out of their way to make our little family holiday extra special. Even when it was busy at times the staff were brilliant. Jenette and Lucie deserve admirable mentions as their service was top notch and made my kids feel so welcome. Sam (the manager) deserves extra credit and praise (and possibly a pay rise!) for the way the place is run and seems to always be there to make sure operations are run as smoothly as they can be and you can tell he really cares to make sure the customer experience is as great as it possibly can be.

Last minute decision to have a meal. I had 1/2 chicken meal that was super with a pint of a cold Dunbar shandy. Excellent service from Ben who had a friendly helpful demeanour. No 2 Passing breakfast. Usual great quick quality service and meal although the bacon tasted strange but enjoyable. I always enjoy Beefeater breakfasts !!

Been here a few times now and can highly recommend it. Very clean, the staff are friendly, and all the food we ordered was absolutely lovely. Nice place for a family get together. Well done to the chef, who is apparently called Peter, the food was spot on. 👌

After having a disastrous visit a few weeks back with the attitude of the waitress thought would try again. This time I went with my parents. All staff were very friendly but the food was awful! I ordered loaded potato skins- what I got was cheesy chips!!!! Dad had mixed grill. The steak was like a piece of rubber- even my husband couldn’t eat it! We did raise our concerns and were given a free dessert. I don’t think I will be rushing back anytime soon! It used to be so nice but the food has certainly taken a turn for the worse!

Went out for date night, and decided to give beefeater another try after not going there for a couple of years due to the food not being great and again the mains weren't great but the starters were perfect and the service was absolutely fantastic ❤️ Luke was amazing we had problems and he tried to sort it but the kitchen didn't want to do anything, had to take a picture of the menu of what we ordered as the kitchen said there were no sauces on the burger, yet it plainly says BBQ sauce and burger sauce, unfortunately we won't be going back this is the 3rd time of going there in five years and it's not nice 😶😞

Wasn't sure whether to accept Brewers Fayre discount vouchers.After explaining that vouchers according to Whitbreads app.they are accepted in all their food outlets.They accepted it this time but would in future. I informed Whitbread but have had no response.

The sound level in this place is too high for comfortable dining. It desperately needs acoustics to be looked at. More soft furnishings, acoustic ceiling tiles etc.

Been several times, over the last couple of weeks, for Breakfast, lunch and evening meal. Never been disappointed withbthe food. Breakfast is a must great value and good quality.

Ordered the apple pie off the set evening menu and found mold on it. Waitress who was serving us seemed to have an attitude too and didn’t seem as welcoming to us than everyone else.

Had breakfast here two days in a row as part of the premier inn breakfast deal. Can’t fault it, lots of food, all fresh and tasty. Plenty to choose from and the staff were absolutely lovely. It was the perfect start to the day.

Food warm not hot as expected, understaffed for that time of day and no interaction with us the customer, It was supposed to be 33% of the food bill but if you had the set menu it did not apply it said it apparently in the small print ,take a pair of binoculars and you just might be able to see it .I will not be going back there ever again and I trust you the people to boycott it as well have a nice day

We arrived a little late but got checked in and seen to our table. Was a little concerned as it was quite busy buy my fears were unfounded. Drinks, starter and main food order taken a few minutes after we sat down. Found it funny that our orders were taken by pen & order pad and asked about it, this is perfectly normal and this avoided the worldwide software glitch a few days before which affected a lot of businesses. Drinks and food duly arrived, drinks cold & food hot! The big question. . . Would we go back? Simply yes.

Visited last week with friends as a thank you for looking after our pet cat whilst we were on holiday. This is our "go to" place to for a good meal at lunchtime & early evening. The staff are always friendly & efficient. The menu offers plenty of choice & all the usual options. Plenty of parking at this time of the day. Can't speak for evenings, but would recommend at the times we regularly visit

Met here to have breakfast with friends whom had stayed the previous night at premier inn next door, only to be told rather abruptly there are no tables available and we would have to wait 1 hour! Our friends were seated as they had their table already booked! There were many unoccupied tables and when we questioned this was simply told they are all booked so we had no choice but to go else where leaving our friends to eat alone. Our friends who did book their table prior and was seated sadly informed us later that none of the tables were used after we left! We felt very unwelcome as soon as we entered and felt the assistant or manager wasn't even trying to accomodate us. Body language and tone says it all! We will not be returning here!

We never fail to be impressed by the experiences at Strawberry Field. All of the waiting staff and especially the Manager Tommy always show us utmost courtesy and respect, be it 2, 4 or up to 18 guests. The food is served quickly after drinks are served and is always hot and tasty. Our wishes in advance regarding seating are always catered for too. Cannot recommend too highly.

Great food, great service. Ate here whilst staying at the hotel, Tommy and Luke couldn’t have been more helpful or attentive. The food was good and I would come again.

It's a Beefeater chain pub and restaurant. The menu is primarily grills and chips. Salad sides are OK. The covered grilled chicken dish was bland for the cost of the dish, with just chips and coleslaw. The desert that two of our party had, apple pie and custard, was tiny and the custard lumpy and contaminated with something "brown". Either a sauce of some kind, or the dregs from the custard bowl. We suspected the latter. We did complain and new custard was brought out. But the contaminated custard had already been added to the dishes, which were not changed. There are better independent venues with similar prices and better food options.

Perfect for a post rehearsal pint but randomly closes early.

Excellent steaks, had a mix grill, served by a good bloke with cool hair, will defo be back when we are here again 10/10

Visited for my birthday with 8 family and friends. Out waitress Ellie was very attentive and the service was very good. We ordered 6 different meals between us and received them all at the same time. The food was very tasty and were all enjoyed.

Was lovely and quiet to have an afternoon lunch with my boyfriend, lovely service and was amazing food. I never tip and I tipped the waitress. It makes a nice change from Toby Carvery as we are always there. However, needs more items on the menu especially more pasta dishes. Spinach Alfado is my favourite 😋

Not overly busy, so ideal for a family reunion, but I have to say that my meal was less than exceptional, although my wife and daughter enjoyed theirs.

Milk was off twice for my tea so had to change to hot chocolate. Service behind bar was slow and not enough staff. Hard to pay as only one person taking payments for a party of us and people waited ages to be seen at bar while we were all paying . Needs more organisation and complete revamp as a very tired looking interior
