The beach hut in Southend-on-Sea

We stopped by The Beach Hut in Southend-on-Sea during a beach walk and loved it! The staff were so friendly, and we enjoyed two pints and crispy chips while taking in the lovely seaside views. A great, relaxing stop—highly recommend!

Look - this place has a captive audience so maybe they don't need to try. I ordered a babyccino and a hot chocolate. Kids Hot chocolate came out (so wrong order) in a glass cup, so I could see powder at the bottom where they hadn't stirred it - sent it back, came back stirred but cold. Kids pasta microwaved to hell and babyccino hotter than my hot choc. Mediocre and bad service - no apology for getting order wrong, waitress gives zero effs

Had a lovely lunch here. Managed to get table as was off-season autumn. The toasted baguette/sandwich with mackerel pate were fabulous.

Typical seafront eateries, consider it a bit expensive. For what. I had, sausage sandwich and a cappuccino, about £13

We had a coffee and an ice cream on a strangely warm November day. It was nice, nothing exceptional, just nice. Did the job it was intended for. 👍👍

Very attentive staff and food was tasty.

The staff here are superb! Very attentive, friendly and extremely efficient, it was nice to see. They cleared and cleaned the tables promptly and even wiped down the seats and swept areas of the floor (where children had made a bit of a mess). My toasted sandwich was just what I wanted, and had plenty of filling, coffee served hot. Great to see they allow dogs (which were quieter than the children there!). All the staff that attended us were great, but the dark haired girl (possibly Natalia?) was always smiling and polite. They are a credit to the business and the business obviously takes pride and runs a tight ship! I’d definitely return and recommend. (Date visited 3/11).

Unexpectedly rude owner, asking me to leave immediately after breakfast, even though I had only been there for an hour and was still enjoying my second cappuccino. He claimed the place was fully booked, despite several tables remaining empty for the next hour. To make matters worse, he moved two other guests to my table, saying it was intended for four people, and shifted me to a side table for two!! Despite waitresses were very friendly polite and decent!!

Waited 45 minutes for a toasted sandwich and a sausage baguette. Had to speak to waitress for update. Not particularly busy, other people served first who had come in after me. Had to ask for our food as a take out, but still same price as eating in. Not worth the price and we won't be eating there again

Nice place to visit and have a drink or some food right by the sea. Overall service was good as was the food. There are plenty of food options in Southend so you need to stand out, this place just about does that for me. Can recommend.

Very spacious cafe/restaurant on the seafront but not in main Southend. Excellent food and service. Easy parking outside (£3 per hour).

The outside doesn’t look particularly inviting but don’t let that put you off. The food, coffee and service were excellent. We had the cooked breakfasts and they were fresh and tasty and well-presented. Will definitely return. Nice view of the sea from inside too.

Two spoons of very average ice cream cost £6

The staff where absolutely fabulous Cherene (apologies if ive spelt that wrong) was absolutely nothing short of polite, respectful and lovely to talk too. I had a starter of salmon on toast which was brought out quickly then had a main of salmon and veggies which again brought out quickly both I will highly recommend to anyone if your looking for a light meal. Lastly i ordered the " Cheesecake of the day" which was salted caramel for my visit, again absolutely delicious not to rich paird nicely with a fair helping of vanilla ice cream. All in all would can't fault this establishment on anything, tables were clean cutlery and glasses were spotless. I will definitely be recommending The Beach Hut to family and friends.

I'm disabled and they were so accommodating! They have a ramp and a lovely young man (unfortunately didn't get his name) helped me up and down the ramp on my mobility scooter and because it was a quietday they thankfullysaid i couldpark it inside. . He made sure I was able to get to my table safely. The restaurant itself is beautiful and light. The staff are friendly and engaging. The menu has something for everyone, and they are really good at asking about allergies. The fish and chips I ordered were absolutely delicious. The batter on the fish was light and crispy and so flavorful. The chips are so perfectly crisp and fluffy. Some of the best fish and chips I've ever had. Such a pity I live so far away,otherwise, I would be a very regular customer.

Excellent little cafe by the beach with a range of items for breakfast or brunch. The food is served fresh and it's very tasty. Very good value for money! Will definitely come back another time.

Staff were happy even though it was very busy even at 10am in the morning just as they opened. Be prepared for a little wait as the food is cooked to order. Having said that the quality of the ingredients was very good and tasty.

Was visiting the area and after reading some of the reviews decided to try their fish and chips one late afternoon. Arrived shown a table which had a lovely view out to sea drinks order taken and both ordered cod and chips. When food arrived it was piping hot and well presented. We both enjoyed our meal and would definitely visit again if in the area

Very good meal! 5 of us popped in for a light lunch. Very impressed with the food. Took a while to come out but it was freshly cooked, all meals delivered at the same time. Lovely coffee. I had the fish finger sandwich . Tge bun was nice, lightly toasted and nice and light to bite into. All our meals were nice. Recommended! See my photos!

Lovely place, name doesn't do it justice. Prices are different on their website. We had fish and chips, what else at the coast. My daughter said the fish was average. I come from a generation where fish and chips were reasonably priced in Southend, how things have changed. Place is average size, we found it clean and a nice view right on the seafront. So if you want to pay over-hiked prices, go here because it's nice to sit on the coast but I personally don't think a view justifies price.

Love this place especially when the tide is in and the sun's out

What a wonderful find. A lovely little restaurant overlooking the beach with a great view. We had breakfast and cups of tea and it was tasty and hot. Toilets were modern and very clean and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Will definitely will be going back. Loved it.

Very good experience! First meal after our arrival in England, the meal was excellent and the staff pleasant. In addition, the setting and the view of the sea are magnificent. I recommend !

Have always enjoyed The Beach Hut, in particular their classic Burger. Unfortunately last week the burger was very bland no seasoning and very disappointing. Makes us not want to risk it another time. Has there been a change of supplier?

Wait was over 2 hours the food was sub par it’s so expensive and if you complain they pretend not to know what your saying absolutely terrible

I eat at the Beach Hut at least once a week and simply love it there. That said, I realised I haven’t written a review for years…so here goes once again. The location is fabulous, especially when there’s a full tide and the sea is literally beneath your feet. The welcome is always friendly, warm and welcoming and the service attentive without being overbearing. The food is tasty and extremely well presented, albeit a little pricey. I love the coffee and it’s a cool place to simply hang out. The breakfast options are fab, but maybe, the menu could include more basic sandwich choices for greater variety? Sometimes, all you want is a lite bite lunch and a cuppa, as opposed to a main meal. I look forward to frequenting the relaxing place once again, which really has become a home from home.

It was a rainy day so it was very quiet. Its a great family place to visit. Although there's not much to do when it rains for the little ones, if you wrap them up they will still enjoy it.

Had a fantastic birthday lunch here yesterday. The food choice was amazing, so much so we chose a platter to have a few different dishes. It did not disappoint. The staff were lovely, friendly, but not overly, a lovely experience.

What a lovely place to have brunch! It was an accidental find and we could not have picked a better place to have a late breakfast. We had a great table right next to the window and view of the sea which was right next to us. I had a pot of tea and the bacon sandwich on sourdough which was delicious. Would go again!

Was a massively cool surprise, sunshine through the glass back over the water, and the best sausage sandwich you could imagine, highly recommend

We didn’t book, luckily there was a place to sit with a beautiful view of the sea.. chips were lovely and Cod was tasty … 1 star deducted just for the portion size was expecting a bit more mushy peas and a larger cod for the price….but overall very tasty and recommend this place.

Lovely food with friendly service and seafront views. I highly recommend the fish tacos and the cod and chips! 😋 The wait for food was a little longer than ideal, perhaps because of how busy it was. The seating area can be a little chilly on colder days, the heaters are few and far between. Alas, we've always enjoyed coming here, and the coffee with a view is like no other!

You most certainly get a delightful view! We came at 11.30 for brunch (then prawns at 12) I got the avocado on toast with tomato’s (I asked for salmon as extra but they must have forgotten). The avocado didn’t taste fresh and was a very thin layer like butter on the toast. Half pint of Atlantic prawns were yummy though! My husband got a sausage and bacon sandwich, which he enjoyed but bacon wasn’t crispy at all, quite fatty. The view was great, service great but it was soooo warm in there. I could hardly sit waiting for our food it was so warm from the sun shining through the glass. Perhaps keep the front door open or any window?! Will definitely recommend for budget breakfast!

Had a brunch, not sure if I’m convinced to come back ever again. Food was good. We had a poached egg with avocado, it was really tasty. The reason I reviewed as a three stars is because of horrible coffee and dirty tables. The coffee tasted disgusting, my cup of coffee was served with spilled coffee over the saucer. The tables were sticky and dirty. However, waiter was very friendly and quick. Previously, I had a fish and chips from them but it tasted average. There are better seafront restaurants around.

Lovely little cafe as near the beach as you can get and stay dry! We arrived early for breakfast on a very chilly morning....the staff let us in for coffee before officially opening (good coffee!) Breakfast was excellent although as veggies we didn't sample the trad. Meaty variety which looked the biz!

Can't fault this excellent cafe restaurant. Staff were lovely,food was spot on and the view was spectacular in the sunshine. Will definitely be back !!! Came back and was just as good. The staff really are good at making you feel welcome. Coffee was excellent as was the breakfast,as always

We had a lovely brunch for my son’s 21st birthday/we had two tables to accommodate 22 people and a dog. We had an excellent experience and many thanks to the team.

Love it here, the staff are just so lovely - reliable food, friendly service, beautiful views. We come here often usually for breakfast, but the fish cakes special over Summer was wonderful.

Good strong coffee and the fruit loaf looked delicious. Nice view over the estuary.

First of all…fantastic location. Right on the beach…and if you time it right you get a fantastic view of the setting sun. Greeted with a smile. Service was friendly and prompt. I went for the cheddar rarebit with poached egg and it was incredible. How something so simple could taste a good. Throughly recommended

Went for Sunday brunch with friends, the staff were lovely and so was the setting and the coffee. The food however was meagre and overpriced, £9+ for literally one sausage on one slice of toast, no attempt to garnish or present it. I had a stack of 4 pancakes with a small portion of maple syrup on a plain plate, again no attempt to present it, no fruit on the side. Really the plainest food I’ve seen in years 😂 can’t fault the taste but 👎 for price and presentation.

Stopped for a quick lunch. Great views out over the sea. Cod and chips was really very very good. Chunky cod, crispy batter, chips were perfect. I also really appreciated that a Coca cola came in glass bottle together with a tall glass with ice, exactly as it should be.

Went for an early morning coffee and decided to go for a bacon sandwich as well. It was delicious! Service was good, the view was lovely and the prices were fair. So all in all I'd recommend The Beach Hut.

Came here with my Fiancé. Best place for nice views, wine and food in Southend. You really feel like you are on holiday and the staff are so welcoming and professional too. We had the special of the day which was absolutely delicious!! Thank you to the staff for making our experience extra special!

Lovely place for lunch on a sparkling sea day, right over the beach. Tasty food and selection but portions a little small and prices a bit high, but where isn't these days!?

This is the first I've been here but would definitely come again The food was absolutely superb, the best fish and chips ever ! My son had the gammon steak, freshly cooked with egg and tomato. 10/10 The staff were very friendly and helpful as we had turned up as they were about to close but they made us so welcome

Visit here every so often for a girlie lunch. The menu had changed since I last visited but is still very good. I had a shandy & my friend had a glass of wine whilst we waited for our food. We decided on a sharing dish which consisted of some salad, cheese on toast, pitta bread, various dips & was delightful. The staff are always friendly & helpful. Being right by the beach the views are good & it is very popular. The place itself is very clean.
