The purpose of my trip here was to follow in the footsteps of three generations of people who were responsible for social reform to restore humanity from a society that lost its humanity due to pollution and other factors after the British Industrial Revolution. ★i.e. ☆Thomas Carlyle (London ``Carlyle's House''), ☆John Ruskin (Shifield City ``Ruskin'') ☆ William Morris (London "Morris Gallery"). ★For example, in the guest book for ``Carlyle House,'' Inazo Nitobe, who was living in London at the time, had the names of his disciples, including Michiharu Tajima and Kotaro Tanaka, whom he took with him for several years, engraved. Wasn't this an extension of the Tokyo Imperial University's ``Costume Philosophy'' lectures in Nitobe? Nitobe's attachment to Carlyle can also be seen in the name he gave to his eldest son, Tomasu, who died at a young age. ★Focusing on the ``Socialist Party'' of Moris's diverse work, we will visit William Moris in his birthplace, Ultham Street, on the outskirts of London. I visited the gallery for five years starting in 1999. A wide range of work, including Morris's work as a craftsman, was displayed in detail over the years. ★Of course, there was also a detailed display of the publishing history of Celmscott, which has a ``Morris pattern'' that is now easily available at a certain 100-yen store in Japan. ★Needless to say, the structure of the exhibition emphasized that the work was a product of the handmade spiritual recovery movement that was lost in the era of industrial revolution and mechanization. ★This year is the 190th anniversary of Morris' birth, but just as the V&A Museum in London celebrated the 100th anniversary of his birth in 1934, the museum in London opened in 1950. William Morris Gallery probably celebrated as well. I want Japan to have an institution to pass on the spirit of Morris.

One of the BEST galleries I’ve been to in London as an art enthusiast! Definitely worth going to and a place I would recommend to anybody visiting London! As it used to be William Morris’ childhood home, it still retains that cosy homey feeling to it, and it certainly doesn’t have the extremely formal feel of a gallery! The museum is a combination between his artwork, patterns, designs, and his biography in chronological order, so you really get absorbed by his personality and craft! It’s fascinating to see how his company Morris & Co evolved over the years, and what his close ones and his clients had to say about Morris. A whole variety of perspectives regarding his worldview is presented, offering a very in-depth presentation of how he used to be. The exhibition is on two separate floors so I’d give this gallery at least 2 hours in order to properly see and read everything that’s exhibited! There was also a smaller exhibition in a separate room on the ground floor which targets Morris’ inspiration from Middle Eastern patterns when I visited, not sure if it’s temporary or permanent, but really insightful nonetheless. There is also a small cafe in the building, and a souvenir store where you can buy different objects with Morris’ designs.

The information accompanying the artifacts do show a good level of research put into the exhibition. It was also interesting finding out about William Morris’ life. Lots to see with friendly staff. The William Morris Gallery is a true gem for anyone interested in the arts, design, and the legacy of William Morris, the iconic figure of the Arts and Crafts movement. Located in a beautiful Georgian house set amidst the lush parkland of Lloyd Park, the gallery offers a serene and inspiring escape from the city’s bustle. The gallery is wonderfully curated, guiding visitors through Morris’s life and the breadth of his work, including his contributions to textile design, printing, and socialist philosophy. Each room captures a different aspect of his legacy, from intricately designed wallpaper patterns to furniture and stained glass, showcasing the incredible range of Morris's creativity. The immersive exhibits are thoughtfully arranged, making the experience engaging for both design enthusiasts and those new to his work. One of the highlights is the interactive displays and multimedia elements, which allow visitors to gain hands-on insight into Morris’s design processes and philosophies. There’s also a fascinating collection of his sketches and early works, which provides a glimpse into his creative mind. The gallery doesn’t only focus on Morris; it also delves into the broader Arts and Crafts movement, demonstrating how Morris’s work inspired generations of artists and designers. After exploring the exhibits, visitors can relax at the charming on-site café, which offers a great selection of teas, coffees, and cakes, and overlooks the picturesque park grounds. The park itself is worth exploring, offering a lovely setting for a stroll or picnic. With its combination of rich historical content, beautiful design, and a peaceful location, the William Morris Gallery is a fantastic destination. Whether you're a history buff, a lover of design, or simply looking for a unique cultural experience, this gallery is a must-visit.

A must-see for anyone who appreciates the decorative arts, for anyone looking for people who dared to live their dreams and change the state of things and confront the standard. William Morris was all this and much more. The visit is inspiring, I was particularly touched that he believed in his wife and encouraged her to go further at a time when women were appendages to their husbands and female education was not considered necessary or useful. What's more, he believed in other women and provided trades so that they could be more autonomous. After visiting the gallery, I came to understand why there are so many antique shops in the neighbourhood and why Morris' prints can be found in many local businesses. There's a market that sells post-walk treats and a souvenir shop for all budgets. Entry to the permanent exhibition is free and the staff are friendly and helpful.

Free museum chronicling the life and times(childhood, trade/business partnerships and later socialist proclivities) of William Morris. Good selection of original works, informative audiovisual displays (some interactive) and adjoining cafe and gift shop , set within the grounds of Lloyd Park, Walthamstow. My only comment would be that some of the rooms were extremely dimly lit and so the display text was barely legible. Perhaps there could be more lights on the display text , if light damage to the original works is the issue?

After an interesting and demanding visit to the Red House, two elderly architects and WM enthusiasts from Rome moved, on Thursday 26th March, to the WM Gallery, with just as much effort and expenditure of resources. At 4.50 pm they found the entrance barred and a manager, responsible for the facility, who, in a rude and threatening manner, "ordered" the undersigned to quickly leave the facility because the current time no longer allowed visits. All this in defiance of any consideration of a cultural, welcoming and availability nature. It is important to underline that the opening times of this site indicate: Tuesday to Sunday 10 am - 5 pm (8 pm on Thursday).

We came upon the Mingei exhibition serendipitously and were completely charmed and illuminated, spending far longer than we had anticipated. The links to the UK with Bernard Leach and Frank Brangwyn only served to highlight the movement's relevance, particularly the bringing up to date section with its mention of Muji! We had a lovely stop for coffee and cake at the excellent cafe. The only difficulty was parking. As we were travelling from a visit outside London we were in the car, the car park nearby was entirely inadequate and on-street parking is non-existent.

My wife and I were looking for some Thai food and saw this on Google and were a bit apprehensive seeing that it was also a pub. Walking in we were immediately greeted by the guys behind the bar, even when they had a number of customers they were serving, and asked what drinks they can get for us. We were clearly confused on where the Thai restaurant was and the guy was very friendly and showed us the way to the stairs and we took our drinks upstairs. The restaurant had just the chef to cook and wait tables and he was very friendly and the food tasted great. A bit weird when you're not expecting that setup with the pub but once we were there we loved it. Again, super friendly bar and chef upstairs and we felt very welcomed and comfortable the entire time.

Lovely place in the heart of London, when I get a train cancelled is my place to seat and enjoy. Service is good, the drink are serve and made with passion. I have not dine in here but the nachos were excellent. The decoration is so lovely.

Went with friends at the week end. Best cake I've ever had . At £13 a slice & £7 for a single shot of expresso, I'll be having to save up before i visit again. 🤑🙄🫢. £7 for a shot of expresso. Wow . Better to have a cup at the Corinthian or Claridges!!!
