Wilko Cafe in Exeter

Went here for a bite to eat we ordered a tea cake and a breakfast. The lady serving looked like she didn’t want to be there. Teacake came with only 1 butter and when I asked to have some more we were told that we had to pay 40p per butter? That’s outrageous for butter. The breakfast came and it looked unappetizing I ordered an extra sausage but never got it and when I questioned this I was told “oh did you?” Even tho she charged me for it. Honestly the worse breakfast I’ve ever had. The cafe was so much nicer before now it just looks so dark and depressing with little to nothing available in the fridges. Staff looked miserable and the place was a state all dirty dishes left on tables and on the tray rack by the toilets. They obviously aren’t cleaning them often as we were the only ones in there and now I can see why Never using this cafe again

Terrible experience in every way. Unsmiling miserable staff who looked like they would rather be anywhere else. Long wait to be served despite only one person in queue. Horrible hot drinks which we had finished and still no sign of breakfast. Waited over 40 minutes and a reminder before breakfast was brought out without a smile or an apology. Eggs rock hard and items missing - I went to query the missing items (no apology or explanation) and was asked if I still wanted them as she would have to cook them. I said yes to having the missing black pudding and she looked put out. Ate our breakfasts and the black pudding was nowhere to be seen. It wasn't busy and they didn't seem short staffed but diners around us were having incorrect orders brought out and the man who had been in front of me in the queue was complaining that his food still hadn't arrived (they wasn't bothered and claimed he hadn't ordered any) he had to take his receipt back up to the till to prove it! Walked in and then straight back out of the filthy toilets. On our way out I asked if I could have a word with the manager but I was told one wasn't available. A couple of staff members came out the back and asked what I had wanted the manager for, one of which was the one supposed to be cooking my missing breakfast item. I said that it had been a terrible experience. I mentioned that fact that I never got the cooked missing breakfast item and she just looked at me like I was on a different planet as if she'd never spoken to me before. They both just looked at me disinterested and said sorry but it wasn't sincere. It was like being in a funny sketch show but what was annoying was the total lack of interest and the miserable attitude. At one point a member of staff had her head and in her hands at the till! All I can say is it must be horrendous working there as they couldn't summon a smile between them! Go elsewhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Absolutely shocking service! Waited 45 plus minutes for food for my client and I was waiting 55 mins for mine but went up and they hadn’t even made it! Would not recommend this cafe at all.

Cafe wasn't open as waiting for staff to turn up came back a 2nd time still.not open did some shopping went back a 3rd time it was open but after queuing was told no hot food available gave up & left I don't know how this cafe works it's very hit and miss don't think I'll bother anymore in the future easier to find somewhere else to go to.

Hi I have been coming into the new cafe 89 in wilkos which is independent of wilkos (range).There is always a issue with employing staff and keeping them, including managers the staff do the best they can but with constant people phoning in sick which seems to be the uk culture thing ? .As a Ex manager of a big coffee brand for long time I can see the issue is higher management ie ..owners there is no structure or communication with the managers of the store or staff they need to be more involved only then things will chance .I would love to manage the cafe I would strong and insist on structure but need support from higher up if not no business will ever work

I find the staff very rude , the breakfast is sometimes badly cooked , the sausages are hard to cut into . The young cafe manager needs to get a smile on her face even if she does not want to be there ! Andrew

Wanted a coffee but as I speak English this was a difficult process. Gave up and left. This was my third visit . The first was appalling food and I thought that I would give it another chance but even worse. Really cheap but not even worth the cut price.

Myself and my mum decided to visit Wilko’s cafe for lunch today after noticing the cafe had been rebranded. I was immediately impressed by the cost dim lighting and smart look on arrival. We both chose to have a jacket potato before heading to the counter to order. I noticed the counter was lacking in food, there were a few cakes available but the rest of the counter was empty, there did not appear to be any sandwiches or paninis. We went ahead and ordered our jacket potato to be told they didn’t have any. I instead chose the vegan gougon option, and whilst waiting to find out if this was available decided to order drinks. I was pleased to see the Costa menu on the wall behind and proceeded to order an iced latte. I was told at the counter that they did not make up cold drinks. I asked if this was the same for frappes that was also included on the menu board, I was told no cold drinks with the exception of the bottles and cartons in the fridge. The third and final disappointment came when I was told no vegan gougons available. We decided to leave and have lunch elsewhere. Bearing in mind this was just before 1pm, to have such a minimal choice of food is shocking. Also, I should add that the menu board needs to be adapted because it is completely misleading.

Fantastic service from a lovely lady called Char who could not have been nicer or more organised. Inexpensive, costa coffee and comfortable furniture but it was the kindness from Char that makes this place special. We will be back

Well what can I say, we arrived, the girl serving was so attentive.she was cooking too and got us exactly what we asked for, I didn't catch her name but what a super addition to the team (give the girl a raise) all the staff were friendly and the food was delicious! We will be returning Fabulous to have Wilko back

Ignore all other reviews, as they are outdated, this cafe has since reopened with new branding following the closure and reopening of the main store. The staff are all very friendly, provide a swift service and the food is superb.

Arrived and was served by a friendly gentleman and i believe his name is Dave after taking my order my lunch had shortly arrived and was given to me by a lovely young girl who i believed cooked it and she was called Tamzin, it was the best lunch i’ve had so thank you! I also spoke to a Tom who was very welcoming. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Lovely and clean tables and toilets, the manager (i assume she was) charlotte was very helpful, polite and courteous. :)

I will Never use this cafe or shop in Wilkos ever again.....having had tea and cake with my wife, I went to use the toilet...it was locked. I ask one of the staff if they could un lock it, I was almost shouted at with "the public toilet was out side" I told her I was a customer and she stomped off. I asked a second member of staff they told me "They were to bizzy ".....I then waited and asked a third member of staff, they very rudely told "the toilet was for customers only and that I should use the public toilet.....as My wife and I were leaving.....the lady who had been clearing tables, was sent over with a key (in a panic) I presume because someone had just noticed I'm disabled and on Oxygen.....I would just like to point out that I have Crohns Disease and really need to use the toilet.....I left because I didn't need it any more. I tryed to complain to the shop manager, but it's not down to him......so in short I will not and would advise others never to shop in Wilko ever.

We had only been in the wilko cafe for light snacks and hot drinks in the past, but whilst in the city centre we saw a poster advertising breakfast so we thought we would try it. Plenty of seating available. The options were a 6 item or 8 item breakfast, I assumed I could pick the items but it was a set breakfast, no swapping of items allowed. The 8 item was £5.50, 6 item £4.50. My 3 year old was going to have a children's beans on toast but at £4 that seemed rather expensive. That may explain why there were no other children/families in the cafe during our visit. She went for a lunch box; I usually have a tea with breakfast but at £2.20 it seemed a lot when a luxury hot chocolate with all the extras was £3. Very strange pricing on some items. Hot chocolate was nice. However, the breakfast was poor. The sausages were the cheapest of cheap, rubbery and not very nice. Strangely the sausages were pink in the middle, but I believe that was the type of sausage rather than undercooked. The bacon was small, egg was OK. The hash brown was nice though. It was all hot to be fair, but just so cheap ingredients. I understand if it was a good value breakfast, but it was more expensive than Sainsbury's cafe and worse quality. I was disappointed; as mentioned we usually go Sainsbury's, or Brewers Fayre on the outskirts of Exeter which does all you can eat for £9.50 and kids go free. Exeter City centre is lacking in cafes that do a good breakfast, if Wilko upped their game they could do well. Won't be rushing back any time soon!

I had got to Exeter very early and decided to grab a quick coffee before looking around the town. I needed the toilet and asked the unlock the door so I could go before ordering my coffee. I was berated by a very rude woman who told me in no uncertain terms that it wasn’t a public toilet and was only for cafe customers which I had intended to be. She reluctantly unlocked the door but I felt so angry at her attitude that I left and went to Costa instead.

Very disappointed It has very much gone downhill compared to what it was The staff are thoroughly miserable and Everything seems too much effort for them even when they’re not busy The food was less than satisfactory. The woman who I believe is a manager/supervisor could do with taking a course in customer service as her attitude absolutely stinks

Oh god I know it’s budget cafe but blimey what on earth. We asked for a latte and got dirty dish water in a dirty glass, so weak there was no taste of a bean of coffee. The cakes stale and hard. I also had a cooked panini but the bread was far from fresh. The person serving was also painting the walls at the same time?? She should have been cleaning The tables and floors as I had to do that job for her. Sorry but never again, I can see why it was Empty as an out of towner I didn’t know better than to visit here. Visit somewhere decent

Today I visited the cafe with my young daughter. We were having a day where she chose what we did and what we ate. She chose for us both to have a kids pick and mix lunch bag. I asked the server if they came with sandwiches and then upon telling us the price, she said to my daughter “mummy can’t afford any food for herself because she’s buying these for you two”. Firstly, it was appalling that she thought it was acceptable to say this to my 5 year old and secondly how dare she make such an assumption. I think she was trying to make a point that I was an adult and should be having an adults meal but I was well within my rights to order what I did. I explained that my daughter was choosing everything today and she didn’t say anything. If I was a mum who couldn’t afford food, I’d be highly offended and embarrassed. I am disgusted that she thought that it was okay to say that to my daughter. Some training in customer service is very much needed. The 2 out of 5 is purely for the lady who brought over the sandwiches, as she was very friendly.

Was in Exeter for a couple of hours .they have a lack of cafes apart from the usual chains spotted wilko cafe never seen this before .went it quite busy .ordered cheese ham Toasties and two coffees the server seemed miserable but upon ordering was friendly our food came it was very nice .found the place clean toilets could to with with upgrading but overall happy

Moldy oranges in bowl on kids pick a mix Stale bread Something growing in air vent in baby change Dirty changing mat Tables and High chairs not cleaned off

Me and my friend were visiting exeter today and came here for a breakfast. A few hours later my friend was throwing up in the car park violently. She is now very poorly. Their sausages looked dodgy and so pink but it was too late to tell my friend before she ate one. Unreal, also the staff make you feel like you’re a burden. Avoid unless you want to be poorly.

So precious about their toilet key/system that they locked me and my 8 month old daughter in. I had to pull the emergency cord to be allowed out. Imagine if there was a fire. Claimed they didn't know I was in there.

Went there a few months back good service from a young lad however The way they treated him is disgusting. He was only a young lad and was bossing him around being extremely rude to him. This time I went Food was soggy and ready made to heat up coffee is tasteless and cold.

staff uninterested and clumsy spilt coffee on tray and half hardly wiped it up before passing it over, no ham for a Childs toastie , ordered 2 ham and cheese paninis and kids cheese toastie when it finally arrived was warm and soggy never seen a toaster, tasteless and inedible, avoid avoid avoid

I had a eight item breakfast, it was average, the cashier was miserable and the mocha latte was tasteless

Went into get some paint for my fence and some screws and nails. Went in the cafe and stayed for Sunday roast Very nice and cheap this could become a regular eating place.

Es luminoso, con muchos asientos y muy limpio.A pesar de solo 2 clientes por delante de mí en la cola para ordenar, me tomó más de 10 minutos, sin ninguna disculpa, antes de que me atendieran.Luego tuve que esperar otros 10 minutos para que llegara mi panini tostado (teniendo en cuenta que ya estaba hecho y solo necesitaba calefacción). No impresionado por la espera. Según mi experiencia de hoy, diría que este no es el lugar para un bocado 'rápido'.

El servicio es espantoso, una señora estaba hablando por teléfono por lo que debieron haber sido unos cinco minutos ignorando la cola de personas que esperaban su comida mediocre.La tarta también estaba rancio y para 2. 80 Esperaba que Merry Berry lo horneara.

Would never eat here again. I had a breakfast bap. The bread wasn’t even buttered. The bacon tasted disgusting and was covered with fat. The egg was over cooked and still had egg shell on it. The sausages was also greasy.

Fancied a snack after shopping in good store,used gents toilets grubby and no toilet paper mention it to staff got a smile,ordered cheese and ham toastie.received lukewarm warm dried brown bread with 3 dice shapes of ham and cheese and extra foot long strand of hair wrapped around inside yum yum ,plus it came with few lettuce shards soaked in a salad dressing which we said didn't want,and the most worse coleslaw ever tasted just tasted worse hard and yuk.partner took my food back ,waited 10 minutes and got replacement ,this time cold food and still HORRID ,we watched staff making orders why they played with there hair all the time just awful.We left leaving food .partner used the gents and still no toilet paper after 45 minutes after asking ,dreadful place to visit.

Service wasn't brill.food was cooked to order but took ages, and when it did arrive a huge long red hair was pulled out from inside the toasted pannini. And coffee had a funny taste like made with uht milk.UurrrgghhDon't ever eat in this restaurant 0/10

He estado visitando este café desde que abrí la tienda. Ha ido cuesta abajo rápidamente durante los últimos meses. . El piso no se limpió adecuadamente. . No hay suficiente personal durante las horas punta 1200 - 1400, por lo tanto, las tablas no se limpian, por lo que los clientes nuevos no pueden encontrar nada. . Han cambiado repentinamente el uniforme del personal a todo NEGRO, me recuerda camisas negras. . Si la gerencia tiene algún sentido NEGRO aparece cualquier suciedad o manchas de cualquier cosa. . El color es desagradable, la blusa blanca y la falda negra están bien. . No se usan sombreros, o delantales muy raramente. . Parece que podemos estar cambiando los cafés

Was OK, nothing special, as said before tea and cake to keep you going while shopping. Staff polite, service fair, cake was dry.

Lovely little cafe with a lovely atmosphere. The food isnt bad either. a great place to stop while out shopping.

Un estilo británico de café es lo que es; ni más ni menos: normalmente mucha carne y patatas, de naturaleza simple pero real y un servicio que suele ser agradable y reservado. El lugar perfecto para reducir la velocidad y no ser un snob al respecto. Por cierto, tienen LAS MEJORES PICAS DE MINCE en la ciudad. . . ; ) Y de alguien que se formó profesionalmente en CAtering / Hotel Industry hace mucho tiempo en Francia (moi), lo dice todo: algo bueno allí.

As another reviewer said, great for a coffee & cake during shopping. Very nice mince pie & large mug of coffee, pleasant staff, lots of tables. Good value for money, as is the store.

Eaten here a couple of times as its convenient, it's clean, nice selection of food/drinks and staff are friendly. I will eat here again no doubt.

Good food and service. Shame about the managers body odour. Put me off my food. Her attitude stinks nearly as much as she does. Rude and obnoxious. Her smell would be enough punishment to her staff yet the way she spoke to two of them was vile. How she is manager i don't know. Would visit again if sje had a wash.

It is what it is....good for a Pitt stop. Good range of snack etc for lunch. Good place for families.

Me detuve por un panini y bebidas calientes mientras compras navideñas. Nos enviaron el paninis volver después de un bocado, ya que estaban tan frío dentro que el queso ni siquiera comenzó a derretirse. Nos trajeron de vuelta y paquete en frente de nosotros, nos dio asco encontrar fueron los mismos y así que no tenía idea de que eran de cuyo

Coffee and cake for £ 3.80. NIce staff. Service was average and clearing tables was slow, but saying that.... Perfect for a coffee and cake stop. Good value!

Mi hija y yo decidimos ir allí para tomar un trago y un aperitivo. Pedimos un café con leche, un café moca y queso y cebolla sandwichera. Tomó varios minutos para que la señora que nos sirvió para hacer nuestras bebidas. Ella estaba usando una máquina de espuma de leche bastante ruidosa. Cuando llegamos las bebidas no espuma en ellos atall, mi café con leche era más de una vía láctea de café. El queso y cebolla sandwichera llegamos casi tan pronto como nos sentamos. La losa había sido hecha utilizando las más finas rebanadas de pan posible, y no una parte de la losa era incluso tostado, era muy duro y no muy sabroso. Nosotros visitamos este café hace unos meses, y la losa que tenía entonces era muy sabroso, así que las cosas que han empeorado. Quizás algo de entrenamiento personal está en orden?

Fuimos a comer un poco antes de explorar de Exeter. Ojalá no la comida tardó media hora en venir un sándwich y 2 chaquetas.

La comida decente para el dinero y el tiempo del día, las tiendas con mi hermana cuando nos sentimos bastante hambriento, pensamos que pruebe el Café Cristobal ha dormido y eran relativamente impresionados por el dinero. No estoy seguro de si merece la pena buscarlo para comer, pero el dinero y entorno, es una buena manera de empezar su día de compras.

We went there as we were in the shop and thought we would give it a go. We should have turned around and walked away. The place was pretty empty and so we thought we would get our toatie quicker. Nope, we waited ages. It was awful, everything about it was disappointing as I had heard some say it did lovely food and drinks. No wonder it just had a couple pensioners there and a young family. Never again!

I was surprised by how expensive this little cafe was, especially considering it was part of Wilko. I personally wouldn't snack/hot drink in there again. Apart from prices, it was a pleasant atmosphere.

I was out with a friend and we were quite hungry while shopping in Wilko so decided to go to the café. I wasn't expecting miracles; if anything, I was expecting to be distinctly underwhelmed but I was pleasantly surprised.I had a tomato, basil and mozzarella panini. It was actually rather nice, if a little dry. It worked well as something to keep me going. Don't expect top-notch food because you won't get it here, but it does the job.

We were visiting Exeter and were looking for somewhere to have an afternoon tea/coffee. We looked at several cafés but found them expensive and then we found Wilko’s café by chance. The café was quiet as it was late in the afternoon. The prices were reasonable and we had a mocha and a green tea. The mocha was made with syrup rather than cocoa powder so was a little sweet, but otherwise OK. There is no real character to the café as it is in the Wilkinson’s shop, on the first floor. We did not try any food, but they sell a range of omelettes, jacket potatoes, paninis, toasties, pasties, quiche and sausage rolls at reasonable prices. Breakfast is available until 11:30.
