We ended up having an absolute blast just following their recommendations and it ended up being one of the highlights of our time in this beautiful city. My steak was cooked to perfection and my wife’s Chilean sea bass was extraordinary! If you’re in the area and are craving some quality food and the best customer service in Edinburgh you need to go to the Wildfire website and book a table right now! We made reservations at this quaint steakhouse for the evening we flew into Edinburgh as it is rated highly and is located just around the corner from our hotel. This little restaurant is a gem. Things we loved: - the food was delicious - Cullen skink (we shared it as an appetizer), ribeye steak for me that was perfectly done with a surprisingly delicious side salad, pan-fried fillet of seabream - quaint, cozy atmosphere without feeling overcrowded - fantastic service - great drink options - lovely location on Rose Street near the Edinburgh Castle but not on the tourist tracks of the Royal Mile or Grassmarket areas. Things we would change: - we were so tired after traveling for nearly 20 hours. We just wish we hadn’t been so exhausted!

"Small but nice" applies both to the restaurant itself (approx. 30 seats and then it's really full) and to the menu. There is something for steak lovers, seafood fans (mussels, lobster, etc) and the Scottish specialties are not neglected either. The service is very attentive and friendly and doesn't shy away from recommendations. In addition to Cullem Skink (nicely fishy, if relatively bland, but generally well balanced), we had haggis and chicken, the latter came with a great pepper sauce that's worth asking for. Plus local beers and a delicious port wine at the end, what a lovely evening...

Genuinely the best mussels and prawns I have ever had in my entire life. The only reason this restaurant loses a star in my book is because the meal took almost three hours for literally no reason, so we were freezing cold in patio seats. Also, they brought my sister completely raw salmon after she specifically asked whether or not it was cooked. They made a few mistakes on the bill also, but they were wonderful when we asked for another meal (without eating any of the raw salmon) and asked for the bill to be corrected.

We were looked after well during our Birthday lunch experience, though were the only diners, always a little disconcerting. However the polite staff tended to our requests and their wee treat of a complimentary sherry was a lovely touch. Partner enjoyed the haggis starter which oddly came with oatcakes, of which there could have been more . Mains of filet steak 1, and prawns 2, were delicious. Sticky toffee desert, also very good. There were a couple of hiccups that the young team dealt with very professionally e.g. odd loud playlist which they gladly softened to more appealing background jazz. All in all an enjoyable late lunch - will make sure to come at busier times next time round.

Before our Edinburgh trip, we were told this is a place we must not miss, as a dining option so we made our way here, to this place along the Rose Street! Greeted by a super sweet & lovely lady whom we later found out that her name is Iona (hope I spelt it right 😊). She was friendly, patience & helpful. Not only did she give us ample time to make our choice, she even offered to bring some blankets as the weather was quite cold (about 18 degree) while we decided to dine outdoor (we didn’t dine indoor as the place is a bit dark & we really want to see clearly what we eat 😋😋) Everything was great, we finished up almost everything in our plate, except the haggis side dish… guess we are not used to the taste :-)

Was really looking forward to eating here as had heard great things. Although we ate early felt as though we were being rushed the whole time, asking what we wanted to eat 2 mins after giving us the menus. The chicken was good, fisherman’s pie was returned as was Luke warm (at best) at the bottom, Sirloin steak was very average and lots of sinew. When asked about the meal said the steak was average and the fish pie cold but met with an apology and zero action. It’s an expensive restaurant and I expected much better.

Visited here on 24th April for an evening meal. This was the tastiest steak I have ever had, hands down. I always order my steak rare and not very often does it actually arrive genuinely rare, always more towards medium-rare. This was cooked spot on and the peppercorn sauce was delicious too. I also ordered truffle fries as a side order and these were lovely too. My partner ordered the mussels which he really enjoyed and my affogato was also lovely. The younger lady who served us was seemingly on her own front of house that evening. Everything came quickly and her service was great. I thought the venue was really cosy and comfortable and I'm so glad we came here as opposed to visiting a chain restaurant.

We found Wildfire, not knowing what to expect, and discovered the best meal either of us have had in a long while. The best cooked scallops I have had in many years were quickly followed by an exquisitely cooked to order 10oz ribeye steak surf and turf - the star for me being the grilled king prawn 'surf' with rich garlic butter sauce and shoe string fries. We finished with a simple but delicious cheese board. Highly recommended.

When I said “this is not the correct way to serve a dinner” the lady who was serving me the ribeye told me “do you want to get this or not” with a very rude attitude. This is a tricky review. So let’s start with the positives. This is a lovely wee restaurant and everything that we had to eat was excellent. The problem is, it isn’t what we wanted to eat. At 8pm of a Saturday night we arrived to be told that there was no mussels (part of the reason one of the party wanted to go there) and no chicken left. The restaurant has a very small menu (I don’t mind this!) but when two things aren’t available it does restrict you quite a lot and also pushes you to the pricier options of the steak menu. The staff were helpful and did manage to offer a steak with the sides that were on the chicken dish but really, I mean what restaurant (who had another dozen diners arrive after us) doesn’t have any chicken?? That’s the ranty bit. Once we had all reordered, the food was delicious. Also the wine was lovely and the perfect temperature. We did enjoy our night and would probably return. If the full menu was on…

The level of disappointment is indescribable. On Christmas Eve, why would one go out? Perhaps for a dinner with a partner, family, or friends, expecting the experience to be worth the expense. Can a taxi be late for pickup? Of course, especially when you're located at a distance, and unfortunately, this is beyond your control. The worst part is if you're delayed for a justified reason and have booked through OpenTable or similar services, you might face an unfair charge for being slightly late. The food was underwhelming. Having tried various restaurants in Edinburgh and in over 16 countries, we expected better. Regarding the service, we extend our thanks to the kind lady who assisted us with our belongings. Her kindness throughout the night was commendable, and she deserves recognition. However, the other staff member, a blonde lady, was noticeably rude. We understand that Christmas Eve is a time best spent with family or close ones, but this should not translate into negative attitudes towards customers. Last part, wine was not taken as they mentioned that as per their license they cannot allow customers to take their own wine. This is only restaurants I heard such a thing in Edinburgh, what kind of license is that? But no worries, I'll check that and edit this part of review accordingly. It's important to note that in today's world, many people have significant online followings, and a bad review can harm a business's reputation. Therefore, maintaining high standards in all aspects of service is crucial, particularly in the challenging business environment of the hospitality industry. @TasteTravellers | As travel bloggers, we explore the world, trying out restaurants, accommodations, attractions, and services, sharing our itineraries, plans and more. The steak is not premium quality so the prices are just too high. The sides were pub chain quality. Have been looking for a good value steak place since Buffalo grill closed down, unfortunately this is not it.

Wow, stumbled on this little restaurant walking back to our hotel and we are so glad we did. It literally is a hidden gem. The food was out of this world. I had mussels and ribeye. Cooked perfectly and the flavours were amazing. Staff were so friendly and a real cozy atmosphere. Can’t recommend highly enough

Fabulous small Scottish bistro in Rose Street. We had one of the best steaks we've ever had, both ordered to be cooked differently and both were perfect. Great service. Only negatives, as it's very small it can be quite noisy, and when we left we asked them to order us a taxi and they wouldn't as they said taxis can never find them. We were advised to walk to Princes Street which in heels , having arrived by taxi ( booked by our hotel), was not easy. No taxis available anywhere which spoiled a lovely evening out as my feet were killing me. Advice to staff, you can order taxis with a pick up at the Charlotte Square end of Rose Street.

Absolutely gorgeous experience. Food was excellent and the staff were lovely. My husband had the scallops to start and the fish pie for his main. I had the fillet steak with shoestring fries and a salad. We shared the trio of cheeses. All wonderful.

Came for lunch on a quiet Monday afternoon and got seated at a lovely window table overlooking the street. Ordered the Cullen Skink as a starter and the Venison for my main dish. Service and food were both outstanding. I highly recommend dining here.

We had our first visit to the Grand Cafe for Fizz and Flick where we had brunch followed by a film - on the most part, we loved our visit, however there were a few parts of the service that weren't great. We were asked if we would like our fizz upon entry and as my wife is pregnant, we asked if there was any non-alcoholic fizz as an alternative. The waitress said no, without giving any alternatives. We had to prompt if she could have a soft drink instead - which was fine. The majority of places we go, especially with a great reputation like the Grand Cafe, normally have non-alcoholic alternatives and staff don't require a prompt to offer a soft drink. The menu had around 6 options, 3 of which had hollandaise sauce and another with pesto. We asked if anything was unsuitable for pregnancy dietary requirements. The waitress went to ask the kitchen and came back to advise that the hollandaise sauce and pesto were unsuitable. There the options were quite limited. Instead of suggesting that the dishes were served without the sauce or pesto (they were just added on top of each meal) they were just ruled out completely. Again, it was a bit disappointing that there wasn't an alternative offered and instead the menu limited to two items. The food that we did have was delicious, it was just a shame there wasn't more variety for my wife. The overall experience was amazing and we'll definitely be back, maybe just without the brunch part.

Located in Rose Street, a few steps from Scott Monument, it is a fairly modern and bright environment. The staff is skilled, courteous, fast and caring towards the customer. I tasted the Seafood Chowder and I found it well prepared, with a right balance between sweetness and flavor. Mussel Pots are served in hot pots (be very careful) to keep the mussel temperature for a long time. I tasted the mussels with Blue Cheese and Bacon ("monstrous" combination for many Italians) and they were excellent. Remember to look for the dispersed bacon in the sauce. Excellent desserts and beers selection. I must confess that Mussel-Inn is my favorite fish restaurant in Edinburgh, especially for the quality-price ratio.
