We are locals and love coming here to this great, cosy, friendly restaurant. Our evening begins in their downstairs wine bar before heading up the restaurant, and back down for a nightcap. The menu seems to change daily. Last night my partner praised the beef Bourgogne. The pheasant & partridge main was great. I’d recommend the Puilly Fume wine and the French dessert wine to accompany the cheese. This is an amazing, family run establishment and so friendly.

Closed. We booked months in advance. Restaurant confirmed reservation days prior. Checked online and it was open. It was closed. I don’t usually ever leave negative reviews and this is obviously not a review of the food but for crying out loud don’t even take the reservation and confirm it if you’re going to be closed. It’s not like we visiting tonight for anything important like our 30th anniversary or anything ! I hope they do better in future.

Nice cozy authentic french option in Edinburgh. They offer a 3 course a la carte for £60. To start I got the grilled snails in garlic & parsley butter with chorizo and they were excellent. Followed that up with the fillet of plaice (white fish) served with mussels, fresh squid, and saffron. It was very good. For dessert, I went with the duck egg vanilla creme brûlée and it was exceptional as expected. Love this spot.

L'Escargot Bleu offered another amazing dining experience. My husband chose this restaurant for his birthday lunch - he had all his favorites - the mussels appetizer special & lamb cooked perfectly and juicy to his taste. I had an amazing homemade fish soup to start and beef bourguignon that had simmered for 24 hours making it super rich & tender. L'Escargot Bleu is the absolute most delicious and welcoming French bistro we have ever eaten (including France!!) - lovely staff who are knowledgeable and even make many dishes fresh in front of your eyes. Can't beat this dining gem!

We absolutely loved L'escargot Bleu. Brilliant French food with a bit of a twist, but still with a classic theme. The staff were really welcoming, knowledgeable and passionate about the food they were serving. Nice buzzy atmosphere, simple decor, very French. In the top 5 best meals of my life. Everything was phenomenal. The Pinot noir pairing recommended for the tartare for me was the best food & wine pairing I’ve ever had. Unfortunately, I had to leave sooner than I wanted due to poor planning on my part but they were very accommodating. Je suis désolée pour mom départ rapide! Will certainly be back for a longer sitting next time I’m in Edinburgh. Santé!

This is the best restaurant in the whole of Scotland. We have been numerous times and we cannot fault the food or service. We love the little shabby chic little cafe in Paris vibes created in the decor, you are instantly transported out of Scotland and straight to France. My highlight and I can never not get their steak tartare, it is phenomenal. Better than any I had in Paris and better than any I have had anywhere. The menus change daily/weekly so the restaurant use the best of what is in season and what is grown from their garden. Honestly, just come to the restaurant and let the experience and food speak for itself.

Great French food, pricy but worth it. This one's been on the wishlist for a while, as it's really popular and we had to book well in advance, but so glad we finally managed to try it out, it was great. We went for the full three course meal, which came to £60 per person, which is fairly expensive, but not too crazy and I'd say the quality lived up to the expectations. I had, fish and crab soup to start, it was rich without being heavy 8/10 lobster (it was on special at no extra cost!) for mains was excellent. I went to town on that bad boy, my mother would not have approved of my table manners but I got every ounce of flavour of that thing, the herbs and vegetables gave it a freshness that balanced the butter, 8/10 for dessert I had the chocolate nemesis which was absolutely phenomenal, light but rich with a depth of flavour you won't get anywhere else, 10/10 Wife had, escargot for starters, classic dish they're famous for, no shells to worry about, and enough butter and garlic to kill a horse, 9/10 slow cooked beef for mains, lovely and tender and rich, very filling 8/10 crème brulée for dessert, despite such a rich main course this didn't feel too heavy, the cream was light and brulée was perfectly crisp, 9/10 As extras we also had, bread and butter, complimentary before our starters, really good tangy sourdough taste, and they gave us extra when we asked for it, 9/10 mixed vegetables, at first I thought they were slightly overcooked, the broccoli being a bit on the soft side, but the rest were fine and the herbs and seasoning on them was very tasty, 8/10 Overall we had a fantastic experience, the wait staff made us feel so welcome, despite being so popular they didn't rush us off our table immediately and we got a good 20-30 minutes extra to finish in a timely manner with a cup of tea.

L'escargot bleu is an outstanding local French bistro. A bit below the Michelin level but none the worse for that. There is an emphasis on seasonal food. On the day I visited asparagus was in season and it was absolutely delicious when it was served presumably straight from the garden. The sauces are done well and the cooking is excellent. Wine list is not extensive but it is classic bistro fair. The staff are also terrific. If you have a free couple of hours in central Edinburgh this is a great place to try for good French food. Highly recommended.

After visiting with my park a few weeks prior, there was no question I was booking this for my partners birthday. I had the fish and crab soup, plaice and for desert I had the best meringue I’ve ever tasted, but from my previous visit I knew I had to get the cherries too! My partner had the Orkney scallop, red deer then the crème brûlée which we washed down with a bottle of red wine. My partner said it’s in his top 3 meals and the other 2 were in France!

I’m not sure if I should be posting this as it feels like giving away the best kept secret you want to keep to yourself… We’ve been coming to L’Escargot Bleu wine bar regularly for almost a year and a half. It’s slightly hidden away, but everything you can think about is top notch! The food, the atmosphere… but, frankly, it’s the staff the makes the place. Not only kind, but personable, always willing to give great advice, and a good chat. It’s isn’t just a wine bar - it’s the cosiness of a local pub but with a refined French twist. Ps. We popped into L'Escargot Bleu for a sunny Saturday lunch on a recent three-day pass through Edinburgh. We've dined at great restaurants in many places, but there's no question that this little French gem is at the very top of its game. The dishes are fresh and delicious, using the best of seasonal produce that is lovingly prepared and presented. No exaggeration, this was quite possibly the best risotto we've ever eaten, anywhere, and the crème brûlée is absolute perfection. The staff is so charming and helpful -- and the dining space so inviting -- that you may want to linger after your meal over mouthwatering desserts, an extensive wine list and addictive coffees. Top-notch all around. Bravo!!!

I am appreciate that I finally visited here. I saved this place more than year, I think this one is best French restaurant in Edinburgh. First of all, £60pounds for 3 course is reasonable price. We enjoyed all starters, main menus and dessert. Especially I strongly recommend beef tartare for starter. We could pick the level of spicy, it was brilliant. For main course, they have special menu, we picked surf and turf. Lobster was amazing and pork was chewy, they were super delicious. Finally the dessert, we ordered 3 different things, but all great we can’t pick the best. All food menu was amazing.

Had a dinner there recently and I was unpleasantly surprised how high the prices were. First went for a drink in the downstairs bar - the wines were excellent and we were casually offered olives to go with our wines. There was literally less than 10 olives on the plate and it costed £6! Glasses of wine are all over £10. All mains are around £30. We paid £120 for the dinner with 3 glasses of wine and 2 mains. Maybe these are the new "normal" prices, but I just wasn't prepared. Also, I was bitten by some bug while sitting at the table in a smaller dining room, only noticed it at home while changing. The food and the service was excellent, though and the portions are good size.

Oddly enough I find myself in stunning French restaurants in the UK more often than I’d expect, and this was no exception. Our servers were warm and accommodating (critical given the bone chilling cold that day before dinner) and the food was uniformly excellent. The deconstructed fish soup was a particularly fascinating touch and of course a restaurant with escargot in the name did not disappoint with the titular dish. Duck egg omelette was fascinating and a classic beef bourguignon simply hits the spot on a chilly day. Would 100% recommend to francophiles looking for a proper feed in Edinburgh.

Quaint cozy French bistro in NewTown area of Edinburgh. Brilliant French take using the fresh Scottish produce from the area. The bistro is well managed by French couple with the husband as chef and wife running the front. I have never seen such a “chill” and relaxed kitchen brigade of 2. The menu is the obligatory blackboard which is brought to the table and propped up in the chair. The special of the day is announced by the wait staff. Everything sounds delicious. I was told that this is the place with the best steak tartare which is prepared at your table. I was not disappointed! The escargot was also very good. Wine was well matched with the food. The ambience is relaxed and I could have been in France instead of freezing Edinburgh. Totally enjoyed the atmosphere. Enjoyed watching the kitchen brigade work efficiently and producing steaming hot dishes effortlessly. The bistro is closed Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Open for dinners only the rest of the week. Lunch available only on Friday and Saturday. There’s a cancellation fee as well. Highly recommended for a great French bistro meal in Edinburgh!

Overall a good dining experience. They served both classic French dishes and some special items with thoughtful mix of ingredients - like the main I had which is a goose one. Very friendly service, a cozy environment with great wine, and we loved the rich and creamy creme brulee, which were burnt in place. Though there is still room for improvement. We had steamed mussels and steak tartare as starters. The creamy sauce accompanying the mussels tasted great, and the mussels were in good texture, but the sauce was a bit too strong which overshadowed the flavour of mussels. Same happened in the tartare, the seasoning itself was nice, just a bit too much that the meaty flavour was diminished. Anyway I would visit again and try their other dishes.

A truly wonderful dinner. Everything was top grade; food, wine, service and atmosphere. Don't miss this when visiting Edinburgh.

Absolutely delicious. Slow cooked beef is the best

Great little place with a small range of home-cooked food. Very friendly and warmhearted service and best brownie, I've ever tried!! If we still have time, we definitely come around again! Best wishes from Cologne, Germany:)

One Canon is a "pizza pub" with a great ambience, drinks, comfortable tables, board games, and a proper pizza setup. This late-night ethical hangout serves delicious pizza at reasonable prices. Hence, do not expect an Italian restaurant, distillery, or rock music cafe. It's independent and picks drinks from local producers with similar values. The Micro Machines exhibit cases on the wall, board games, and great ambience. A rotating special and roughly 10 pizzas make up the menu. I would have devoured the entire menu by now, but the specials keep distracting me. I'll persevere! One Canon's pizzas and booze may also be ordered via Just Eat and delivered to your apartment before that franchise chain's branded bike with a poorly paid driver. The indie also has fantastic drinks for an indie with good taste. I don't drink much, but I want it nice when I do. One Canon has a good selection, not dominated by one source, and prices for most wallets. I want a certainly friendly vibe when I visit a pub. I want comfortable chairs, weathered tables (with service), and enough noise/music to give ambience without making it too loud to talk to friends. One Canon nails these. The personnel are excellent and part of a small but responsive, capable, charismatic team. Someone who knows the business and has spent time at the pub will help you quickly. I've seen the same crew at One Canon, which says much about the facility. Hence, One Canon is ideal for numerous events. I'd bring my work team, and the pizza pub might give discounts. I'd consider that for lunch and post-work beverages, but the kitchen doesn't serve lunch daily. Where to get indie drinks and delicious pizza? Surely it has to be here. One Canon is fantastic for pizza, beverages, and especially for the staff and atmosphere. This pizza pub, a true indie in central Edinburgh, offers a perfect combo of drinks and pizza! Recommended. [Update: October 23 - They take part in Edinburgh's cocktail week and are my favourite venue for it. I mean, an Old Fashioned or Highball with a spicy pizza is divine!] [Update: Dec 23 - Increasingly popular with local tabletop gamers and this is a good thing] [Update: April 24 - still great pizza and now with a bigger food menu] [Update: August 24 - now with added bao buns] [Update: October 24 - Monday's pizza and soft drink offer is great]

My absolutely favorite breakfast spot in Edinburgh! Just writing this review makes me long for their delicious Full Scottish Breakfast (highly recommend!). The friendliness and warmth of the staff makes me feel welcomed and at ease. Even when this charming and cozy restaurant is full and busy, I still feel well tended to and appreciate the calmness and professionalism of the waiters. I also enjoy the Scottish touches -- like receiving a serving of haggis with the a miniature Scottish flag proudly placed in the center of the iconic dish. Will definitely return!
