It has been nearly two weeks since I ate here and I still dream of that breakfast every day. I had a full breakfast, and every aspect of it was absolutely fantastic. Tattie scone was the best I had (and I had many!). The Haggis and beans were really nicely done and elevated above the usual breakfast fare. The porridge with rhubarb was unlike any I have ever had. The space was also a wonderfully decorated. Cannot recommend highly enough.

Disappointing Experience at Edinburgh Larder Cafe Stopped by during heavy rain, expecting a cozy café experience, but from the start, the staff was unwelcoming and forceful. Ordered two coffees and a dessert, only to be told we must order mains or give up the table—no courtesy, just pressure. On top of that, they kept pushing for tips and rushing customers out. For a highly rated café, this was a huge letdown. Feels like they prioritize squeezing money over genuine hospitality. Wouldn’t recommend.

Excellent option for breakfast, either with a reservation, or arriving very early. I made a reservation the day before for 7:30 and they still accepted it. They ask for a £5 deposit to secure your booking, which is then deducted from your account. The food is very delicious, very well prepared and seasoned. Friendly, fast and respectful service despite being so popular. I highly recommend it. You have to try it. I recommend the Scottish Breakfast and Eggs Benedict.

Horrible service. We walked in and sat down at a table we favoured as it looked comfortable it wasn't clean yet hut we didn't mind as the chairs looked comfortable. As we sat a lady came over and said with a very forced smile and an unpleasant tone “can you not sit at a dirty table please we need to clean it” then darting away as soon as she said it. We are very patient and would have waited as we preferred the table. So we rose and waited and were approached by a gentleman who asked if we had made a reservation we said we haven’t he then turned away and we were put off by the vibe we were given. Very unwelcoming i refuse to give my money to a place who treats me like a problem.

Rest with few tables to give the best service to its customers. We went for the Scottish Breakfast. A real pleasure. Everything prepared at the moment. It is a MUST if you visit Edinburgh. Reservations are essential!!! Very difficult to get a table without prior reservation. I didn't take photos because I dedicated myself to enjoying the food, the atmosphere and the family moment. I came across The Edinburgh Larder while searching for a breakfast spot, and it definitely didn’t disappoint! We made a booking in advance, and I’m so glad we did because it gets busy, with people constantly coming in hoping for a seat. Thankfully, they also have another location just two doors down called The Little Larder for walk-ins, so even if you don’t have a reservation, you can still enjoy their food. However, I’d still recommend booking ahead, as we saw a queue forming at The Little Larder when we left! This really speaks to the popularity of the place. I had the Full Scottish breakfast, and my wife had the waffles, both were delicious. Highly recommend!

We were lucky enough to get a table and from the moment we walked in the door we were made to feel welcome. The service is exceptional and the food is absolutely out of this word! Food was very good and staff were very friendly, but we felt like our experience was ruined by an "optional" service charge. A bust Sunday morning, I hadn't made a reservation, but they managed to squeeze in a table for one! And I'm glad they did. I ordered the Full Scottish breakfast, and I have to say it was probably one of the most flavourful breakfasts I've had in many, many years. The sausage was full of flavour and jam packed with meat, the haggis was really tasty, the beans had a subtle kick... it was just lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed it! The waiter kindly offered to top up my tea pot with hot water without additional charge, which is refreshing. I will definitely be returning when I visit Edinburgh again in the future. Overall pretty average experience. We waited outside for 25 minutes in the rain in a queue. Got inside, place felt a bit thrown together but overall the atmosphere was ok. The drinks were ok. Had a flat white which was nice. The food was all delivered from the main restaurant next door in silver metal boxes. It was then served in those boxes. I would have preferred a plate tbh. Food was ok, you could tell the ingredients were a good quality, (had the full Scottish) however it was just a strange experience eating them all together out of the metal box. Overall for 2 breakfast and 2 drinks it cost over £40 which is one of the most expensive breakfast I’ve had in a long time. Was it worth that much…. No. Would I go back, probably not. This place is a total chaos. Too loud and small. You can barely hear each other. The service is slow and bad. You can wait 40 minutes for your breakfast to be prepared and then you have to eat it very quickly because the waiters ask you to leave soon as they need the table for another client. You can actually stay at your table only one hour which makes eating a stressful process. The staff is not happy, they have no smile at all. I did not like the Italian waiter working at this place. Minor complaints about the bacon (my husband suspected it had been sat under a heat lamp for a while) and could have done with one more egg rather than two slices of overly buttery toast on the veggie breakfast. All that said, it's clear why it's popular and you will have a good, filing breakfast, with decent service. (Do book ahead - walk ins were being turned away and the place was packed)

We loved it so much we went twice during a four day trip. Great food, service, and location. Recommend a reservation so you do not need to wait outside.

Had English breakfast here, not bad! But it’s quite popular and crowded, got to queue up and wait for the seats during peak hour.

The first time I visited Café St Honoré I thought I’d wandered into late 19th Century Paris. I half-expected to see Toulouse Lautrec in a corner sipping absinthe. I noticed that the clientele seemed mainly to be local residents - always a good sign - but that business people and tourists were also welcome. The menu was brief and to the point. Dishes were seasonal and locally produced items, including drinks, were highlighted. Over a period of years I’ve visited many times and enjoyed consistently good cooking. This time, I chose the set lunch menu. On the day I visited, the menu sounded rather plain (Soup, Cottage Pie, Mousse) but I saw the opportunity to discover how much flavour this team could extract from modest ingredients. As usual, a plate of beautiful sourdough bread arrived shortly before my bowl of cauliflower and Lanark Blue cheese soup. The soup, made from simple ingredients, was outstanding. The vegetable must have been roasted very slowly, carefully and patiently to extract flavour of such depth. The velvety texture was complemented by a garnish of sweet, crunchy toasted hazelnuts. Comforting and satisfying, my two-hundred-mile round-trip to Edinburgh seemed worth it for this bowl of soup alone. A dish as straightforward and traditional as Cottage Pie needs no fancy embellishment and it wasn't given any. The pie was served in an individual gratin dish with a portion of sautéed green-leaf vegetables alongside. Once again, the modest menu description and simplicity of presentation could lull the diner into anticipating plain food. Every item on the plate was seasoned perfectly and the flavour of the pie's meat base had a gratifying depth. I felt beaten into submission. My homemade Cottage Pie doesn't come close to this! To finish the meal, another simply presented dish arrived: crème fraîche mousse with poached pear and a shortbread biscuit. The silky mousse expertly balanced richness with freshness and the fragrant, sweet pears complemented it very well. I tasted the biscuit and mused that this little piece of confection well represented the blended French and Scottish influences of this restaurant. Had I eaten this dish in France, I might have expected a Sablé biscuit on the side. Here, in Scotland's capital city, I enjoyed this national speciality made from a very short list of good quality ingredients. Accessibility: The dining room is at ground floor level. The toilet/washroom is on a slightly lower level a few steps down from the main cafe area. Prices: The daily set menu is priced at £25 for two courses and £32 for three at lunchtime. (£28.50 / £36.50 for evening service.) The menu which I would call A La Carte offers starters at £14 - £15, main courses ranging from £27 to £35, and desserts at £10 - £15. Wines are priced starting at £7.45 a glass and from around £30 a bottle. In Summary: The "Frenchness" of this cafe is not just about its decor. Classical French Cooking techniques are used in its kitchen. The atmosphere in the dining room is relaxed and the service friendly. Café St Honoré has adopted the French Bistrot mindset of people being there to enjoy the food and wine and not to stand on ceremony.

We had a lovely time at the Broughton for Sunday Roast. They were accommodating for our big group. The food was out of this world.
