Doctors in Edinburgh, City of

Doctors was a friendly place, my dog brought us there and she is very familiar with local establishments. She walked straight in one day (and was happy with her choice) , when we had a family visiting and were looking for a relaxing, not very loud place. Food was nice, staff was friendly and kind. Darren was cheerful, our waitress friendly. Music was pleasant, but not overwhelming. We could hear each other.l, easily found a big table. We had great tiime. We will visit it more often.

Go' atmosphere - but we chose to leave the place as there were so many small flies around the place where we were sitting, which swarmed around our drink.

Doctors was one of the first places I stumbled into when I came to Edinburgh and let me say, being greeted by the warmest smiles in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere made me entirely forget the miserable weather outside! Super friendly staff, tasty food, and — special bonus — discounts for students make for an all around excellent pub. I’m going to be a regular here for sure!

We loved our lunch at The Doctors. Our server recommended a great IPA to try and the fish and chips were deeeelish! Location is great! Add this to your Edinburgh itinerary!

We had lunch here after visiting the "National"; nice and welcoming hosts, we ate very well, spending the right amount for Edinburgh standards. Excellent beer and water "on tap".

Phenomenal! We seeked it out based on ratings and recommendations, and WOW - highly recommended! Friendly staff, outgoing, makes you feel like family. Good selection of spirits and draughts, food is WELL above average. You will not be disappointed!!

I greatly enjoyed my lunch today at Doctors. Darren was a terrific server, very friendly and enegetic and a delight to engage with. Vegan burger was quite nice, not greasy as some can be. Decent beer selection.

Great pub warm pub vibes with lovely service!

Darrin made us feel like locals. Pints were cold and good. Crispy squid was perfect, crispy, light batter and nice chilli sauce. A gem.

Arriving by chance in this pub, it turned out to meet all expectations in terms of beer quality (special mention to the Joker) and above all a really delicious "junk food" type cuisine! The "Doctors" pub took good care of us👌

It's located right in front of the University of Edinburgh, so it's easy to find, you can try a variety of draft beers, and the staff's service is good.

Fix the fly problem. There was a review two weeks ago saying the flys were bad. We took a chance. Good food but we won’t be back because that’s not hygienic.

Good food with quite basic treatment from a girl who was in the place. He didn't try to be nice to us at all and that's something tourists don't like. It is a pub type with three basic food items. Average ticket per person 30 euros, which for Edinburgh, is not bad at all.

Fish was good. Service was great. Nice atmosphere.

Friendly pub, good food (not the cheapest pub food, but it was very nice) and fun atmosphere. Chairs were comfortable enough, table was clean, I didn’t use the loo so I can’t comment on those. I enjoyed my visit and hope to come again. (No photos because we were hungry and ate it before I remembered!) Excellent burger, and good mac cheese if you want vegetarian food.

The Doctors is a perfectly good city centre pub which I've been to many times as it's one of the first I get to if I get a bus into the south of the city centre. It's especially close to a lot of festival venues and so can be extremely busy in August. When we went on a wet and windy night, it was heaving. However, 3 of us got seats fairly quickly, and bar service was, after a bit of a scrum, quite efficient. Prices are the usual Edinburgh centre shocker. But that goes with the territory. In quieter times, I have eaten lunch there and found it to be the reasonable pub grub. One point deducted as nobody seemed to be clearing tables (lots of leftover plates etc) It was though extremely busy, so perhaps to be expected.

We entered for a light lunch during our visit to Edinburgh. We were greeting in a cheery way by one of the two men tending the bar. We were not too hungry so we simply ordered one fish and chips to share. The staff was very friendly, engaged and talkative. The fish and chips were great and the beer and wine we had was fine too. I recommend Doctors. On a different note (no pun intended) they were playing some great background music, which included one of my favorite songs from the 1960s that I hadn’t heard in decades—Arther Brown’s “Fire.” What a blast from the past!

Extremely crowded during the festival, but so is everywhere

Everything you want when you visit a pub can be found here: relaxed, happy atmosphere, people just relaxing and having fun, laughing, in a good mood... The bar food is also really good, the fish and chips are even excellent, to be honest the best they've been in a very long time. The Doctors is a 100% hit for anyone looking for an authentic pub atmosphere.

A super friendly waiter! We tried the typical fish and chips and we liked it a lot. Recommended place to have a drink too; even to watch some kind of sport!

We had such a warm welcome and quickly got our drinks. The food was good and I enjoyed my chicken salad.

A beautiful venue-beautiful drinks-full of flies We came in on an off chance for a quick drink, we were greeted with big smiles, plenty of open seating and a quiet but warm atmosphere. However, once we sat down we were quickly greeted by a hoard of black flies literally covering an entire wall. Such a let down. Poor pest control is clearly an issue at their venue. We were tempted by getting food but upon seeing the rendition of bugs life we were unfortunately put off.

We came for dinner as we just arrived from the U.S. We had the fried haggis, steak pie, fish and chips along with sticky toffee pudding. Everything was delicious, the fellows were working hard and Darren was a hoot! It’s worth coming in for a meal and a beverage!

The best pub in Edinburgh if not in Scotland! Great food, a huge variety of drinks but the atmosphere is what will makes it unbeatable - the host will make you feel like your at home surrounded by a group of friends. And it hasn’t changed since I first came here six years ago. Definitely worth a visit! (Prices don’t bite either ;))

The food is not very good but the atmosphere is nice

Had lunch here and ordered the trip of appetizers. The fried halloumi and fish were delicious, but unfortunately the jerk buns were awful. They were so dry and tasteless we didn't even finish them and wished we ordered something else. The atmosphere and service was wonderful.

Had a great time here. The service was top-notch from the moment we walked in. Great whiskey recommendations. They really knew their stuff and helped me trying some whiskeys. The food was also really good. The atmosphere was cozy, and the music added a great vibe to the evening without being too loud.

Fabulous service in a pub with a super-friendly vibe. We stopped in for lunch during the busy-ness of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. The two gents working the bar were both very friendly, providing table service for our food and drinks. We each had a main and a couple of drinks and couldn't fault it. Many pubs in Edinburgh have a fairly standard menu and this one served the best Ale Pie in my opinion.

It’s a pub with a great atmosphere, have been there a few times even in the same day during the Fringe festival and it never disappoints at all hours. Food is good staff is great and welcoming. Loved it

Nice place, which I always stop by! Nice to be able to sit outside! Would be good to be served outside as you run the risk of losing your table if on your own and have to pop inside to order. Just a thought for those rare sunny days!

Typical Scottish pub located in the center of Edinburgh. Friendly staff. We ate good fish & chips, while the hamburger sandwich wasn't very good. The meat was dry and full of ribs, being in a country where there is good meat, I would have expected much better. The beers are good. Average prices.

Great place to grab lunch at with it being a 5 minute walk from the museum. The staff were nice and welcoming. The food was great, I got the fish & chips and it was declious. The crust on the the fish was perfect and the fish itself was very tender.
