We went to Edinburgh for the rugby , had a fab time here, great food and fantastic hospitality.... bar staff were great, would recommended this pub if you are in the area.

Just had a lunch at this place and the food was as fantastic as ale pie was lovely chunky chips best we've eaten. Atmosphere was really good so many nationalities within the bar, staff really friendly, make you feel welcome wherever your from top place to visit and dog friendly.

Amazing time to have a drink or to eat amazing food after a long day! Highly recommend

Booking on a friday is a must for this popular pub. Lots of youg people. Sports are shown on various screens and music that was not necessary to be turned up as it was noisy enough. Sticky toffe pudding was the best and how it should be served everywhere. Toastie was not worth the price. Thick chunks of bread and hardly any cheeze and where was the becamel sauce. Not a place for a nice cosy meal, but if you want to get in the week-end spirit and are a bit youger than us in our sixties, this is lively enough with excellent service.

A must visit when in Edinburgh! Visited for a drink one day then came back the next day with the family for lunch and the staff were so friendly with the kids. Food was amazing, Balmoral chicken was excellent. Check it out.

We came here for lunch all the way from Glasgow - the service and food are amazing! I'd recommend the steak pie! If we lived in Edinburgh we would definately be back sooner, hopefully be back in the future.

Tried to go in at 11.50am today. Advertised as open at 11. Pouring rain outside and walked over a mile to get there to find out closed and although people inside behind the bar no one answering the phone. Other people also turned up the same time as us to find you closed.

We arranged a booking for a fairly large party for dinner in advance through email and the section with our tables was ready on arrival. The manager, Darren, made himself known to us and from then on everything went perfectly. Food came out on time and pretty much simultaneously - probably hard enough to do with 24 meals. Food quality was first class, not one grumble from our group that I heard either then or the following day. We sat on for a couple of hours after our dinner and service from the staff was top notch throughout. All in all we were there for about four hours and couldn't fault anything. Located in a good location, a lovely looking bar inside, seemed to very clean as were the toilets. Really couldn't fault it from start to finish - one member of the party is back in Edinburgh in the near future for some farmy festival thing and he said that he will be making sure that he takes his family there for a meal. Can't say much more than that. Highly recommended.

In all respects, this looks like it’s a great drinking spot, but the food really let it down. There was a wait on the kitchen because of the torchlight procession, which is fair enough. The chap behind the bar was very apologetic and explained the situation. He also gave us the nod from our table when we could shoot back up and order. When it came to ordering I was told that they hadn’t had any flat iron steak (or sandwich) available for a while. If that’s the case, I’m not sure why it’s still on the menu, but hey-ho. So we ordered a cheese toastie, and a steak & ale pie instead. The wait wasn’t bad either … but I kind of think it should’ve been longer. The cheese toastie was presented as a whole sandwich of cheese slapped on a plate with some undercooked chips. The steak and ale pie is the worst pie I’ve ever had. The pastry was soggy and anemic like it had been bungled into a microwave, while the meat inside was dry. The chips and peas were both undercooked. I get it, it’s pub food. It’s not anything fancy. But for the price they charge, it should be to a better standard than that of a local social club. Good for drinks, atmosphere, and location but the food I cannot recommend.

Friendly and welcoming service. Ordered the festival burger and it tastes great！The beef patty is juicy and flavourful. Love the salt in the house-seasoned fries, as there are herbs mixed with the salt, making it tastes even better. The onion rings is crispy and good as well. Good food with good price.

Great atmosphere for drinks and food

The atmosphere here is fantastic and I was incredibly impressed with how clean it was. Side walls, base boards, window sills (the little things, right?) were pristine. The food was top notch pub food; great quality and delicious. The biggest reason I’m taking the time to provide my review though was the guy running the place. I watched him today as he welcomed every single person so warmly, provided information, prompt service and clearly took so much pride in his work. As someone who has spent 10 years in restaurants and 13 years as a flight attendant, I was blown away by the level of care and attention - ten thumbs up, sir. You’re a star!

Incredible pub food for people looking to seek refuge from the chilly Edinburgh weather! Just across from Greyfriar’s, so it’s very conveniently located! Darren was marvelous and took great care of us! 10/10

Service was a initially little slow..but not a major complaint. I think tourists (like us) annoy the staff just a bit.. The food was AMAZING. Fish & Chips and nachos with chicken and cheese with chilli seasoning.. Best nachos I have ever had. Awesome Fish & Chips. Waitress did warm up to us by end of dinner. HIGHLY RECOMMEND..!!

Typical Scotish pub with local dishes. Very noisy by drunk Scots, could not finish our food and left earlier than expected.

Great service Very quiet when we visited but nice to visit an old haunt

Stumbled upon this pub by chance and so very glad I did! Right in the heart of Edinburgh old town. Couldn’t recommend this place enough, great prices compared to others, Food was excellent and the service was amazing. The staff are incredibly friendly. I paid just over £15 for a delicious meal and a pint. If I could give 10 stars I most definitely would 👍👍

My friend and I traveled from Spain and we really enjoyed the place. Our tour guide recommended the place to try their typical Fish & Chips dish and it was delicious. We also ordered Mac & Cheese, equally delicious. The waiter was super friendly and also made the effort to speak to us in Spanish. Highly recommended!😊

The bar was so welcoming to our entire group, we had been a run and were dressed in running gear and slightly sweaty, but they gave us all water and allowed us to have a whole area. Staff were super friendly and approachable and helpful the entire time!
