Good food and nice environment, but as is typical of small rooms, crazy loud.

Three Birds was a phenomenal dining experience. I am recently coeliac and being able to dine here with no worries or doubts about what I was eating was great. The service and atmosphere of the staff was brilliant. Everybody was so friendly and bubbly. The pistachio and feta dip WAS TO DIE FOR 100/10. Would fly back to Scotland solely to experience it again. The chicken supreme was cooked to perfection. Have no doubts when booking this place it is absolutely perfect for a chilled, good atmospheric, and tastiest food ever. Would recommend to every friend and family I have!! Will come back again when I return to Scotland!!!

29th March 2025. An all round small gem of an establishment, The perfect size portions for us. My wife had the Chicken Supreme with all the perfect trimmings. While I had the Sweet Potato Gnocchi with all the perfect trimmings in a Tomato Ragu sauce, which I added some Sourdough bread and olive oil to help clean up the plate🤪. For dessert she had a scoop of Caramel Fudge Ice Cream, while I had the Dark Chocolate Truffle Torte and Raspberry Coulis. The price was nothing to cry about = £58-00 for good quality food and service.

Wow what an incredible meal. I strongly encourage you to order the ‘Big Cow’ as photographed. The Sauternes dessert wine capped off our experience perfectly. Great service and a very welcoming vibe. 5/5

So blimmin good!! We went once and immediately returned 6 days later to start working our way through the menu. Lovely people and every dish we’ve had has been fantastic - would especially recommend the aubergine, the lamb and the Romanian Merlot. Brilliant value for a gem of a place tucked away in Bruntsfield. Can’t wait for next time!

The food, all gluten-free, was to die for. I had sourdough bread and a venison stew. Everything was delicious and the staff were lovely. Their wheelchair access does leave something to be desired, the "ramp" into the building is incredibly steep and my electric wheelchair really struggled and needed a push to help. They also don't have a wheelchair accessible toilet. That said, the food was worth the access struggle! I'll definitely be back!

Great food, the scallops were as good as I've had in a long while. Service was very laid back, personal and witty. A wee gem.

Small restaurant where almost everything on the menu is gluten-free. This is not only great for people with celiac disease, but the dishes are pure and have a lot of flavour. Highly recommended.

I'm visiting Edinburgh for Christmas, and we are always looking for that meal that just hits the spot. We were not disappointed. I had the pigeon for a starter, followed by sea trout and crab cakes. WOW. It was so delicious. I certainly will come back. Three Birds is a gem.

This was our favorite meal of Edinburgh. We had the BIG COW, Cod, hummus, arrancini balls and the best little side salad. Finding places for my father to eat that are gluten free can be difficult, especially in the UK. But even the non-gluten free eaters enjoyed the heck out of that dinner. And being from Tennessee, hearing Dolly Parton on the speaker felt like being home after a long trip in the UK. I highly recommend this restaurant. It’s worth the trek away from the Old Town. Hats off the to the owner of a lovely restaurant and meal.

We stilumbled across this hidden gem for breakfast. We were given a warm welcome, coffees and teas very quickly and then an absolutely superb and good value breakfast. Such friendly service, food was fresh and excellent.

Wow, stop scrolling, and book here. The Three Birds is a must eat restaurant while you are in Scotland. Amazing food, with incredible provenance and fantastic, cheery Scottish hospitality.

Excellent food, from a lovely team, at reasonable prices. Three Birds has a well-earned reputation as an Edinburgh institution and it's still going strong. This week I had the specials (scallops, lamb) and absolutely delighted with them. Shout-out also for the overlangshaw farm PBJ ice-cream and very nice Primitivo wine.

The scallops were very tasty. The risotto was absolutely delicious. The pigs ears were not as good as previously, too much coating but still ok. A nice atmosphere and excellent service.

We booked a very late table for dinner. Staff were amazing and made us feel so comfortable and well looked after. Food was amazing. I had major food envy because the boys ordered the sharing beef.

First class meal. So attentive to dietary restrictions and allergies. Everything is gluten free, and dairy vegan and vegetarian people will find tons to eat... but even that's not the reason to go here. You should try this because the food is imaginative and extremely well done. Eating there isn't just dinner, it is an experience. The service is unbelievable. Book, it is small, and have a thoroughly enjoyable evening. To start, get the harissa hummus and papadoms... and order a rose lemonade to go with it. You'll thank me later!

Found Three Birds while searching for Gluten Free restaurants within Edinburgh. Almost the full menu is gluten free. We shared 1 starter and 3 sidebars. To be honest this was filling, but they were absolutely amazing: Tempura Prawns. Crispy Pig Ears. Pistachio and Feta dip. 3Bee Seedy Chicken Strips. Main courses were the Lamb, which was on the specials board and the Chicken Milanese from the menu. I would recommend booking ahead to make a reservation, as this is a smaller restaurant and was very busy, although this was a Saturday we visited. Honestly, move over Gordon Ramsay, the Three Birds just set a new level in culinary expertise. Highly recommended and will definitely be back.

There is something quite wonderful about this restaurant. Obviously the food is outstanding, it’s a given. But the main thing is it brings pure joy. The welcome, the service, the attention to all the little details. Right now I am feeling wholly resentful of the residents of Edinburgh, but in time I’ll be happy to know that I have found a restaurant that I know I’ll be returning to one day.

Our first trip to Edinburgh and we were recommended to go here as we were staying locally. We really enjoyed it, the service was friendly and fun. The food wasn't cheap, but it was plentiful and delicious, therefore value for money in our opinion. The ambience was perfect it felt so comfortable, cosy and romantic. I would highly recommend to go here, we loved it!

Fabulous food, but can be noisy. We had a super meal here on Friday. Really could not be faulted.

Absolutely delicious meal- the whole family was satisfied. Two of us shared the 600g cow plate. One kids meal mac and cheese, and one lamb plate. The wine was perfect as well. All of it was amazing- a meal we will talk about for a long time. We left very happy. Gluten free friendly!

For we two vegetarians, we have just enjoyed a chickpea pancake dish which has topped us up completely! Great choices to be had here for all. Staff are friendly and super efficient! Full marks!

Amazing food!! I had a Thai curry that was just exploding with flavor. Dessert was amazing. Clearly run by people who really care about the food. Super kind service. Fun out of the way place that’s great of you want to avoid crowds of tourists.

Today was my first time at Three Birds but will most certainly not be my last. What a great find, a small friendly restaurant in the Viewforth area. The food was delicious and well presented. The menu had a reasonably selection of both food and wines. I would highly recommend.

An exquisite dining experience! Dining with someone who had a gluten and nut allergy, the team were so conscientious & didn’t make it seem difficult! All menu items are gluten free! We’ll definitely be back again and would highly recommend for anyone looking for a lovely, homely meal. Forgot to take a photo of the main because it just smelt so good.

I have several dietary restrictions and Three Birds was able to work with all of them. I was delighted with delicious food with sauces (which usually get left behind because of my restrictions).

This cheerfully compact space offers a creative menu with well executed food, served efficiently in a relaxed atmosphere, and it’s located just a few steps from the main road in Edinburgh's Bruntsfield neighborhood. My husband and I had a fantastic dinner and can enthusiastically recommend everything we had, starting with the amazing pistachio feta dip that we shared. I then had the grilled sardine served over caponata as my starter, and the seared scallops and crayfish tails in brown butter—listed as an appetizer on the Specials menu-- but I requested it as my entree. My scallops were hugely plump, perched atop a delicious sauce. The other starter on the Specials was an extraordinarily tasty curried cauliflower soup with shredded coconut and Kefir lime leaves. After this soup, my husband enjoyed the Chicken Milanese and the pistachio feta puree reappeared, this time as a warm dollop of accompanying sauce. The portions were just the right size that I was able to top off my meal with a scoop of rhubarb strawberry sorbet. I found out too late about the chef's innovative marmite ice cream concoction that seems to have had the Internet abuzz. My bad, that means I'll have to return on another visit, I suppose,

i loved it here! super cute place, amazing food, it was perfect. the servers were so sweet, funny, and helpful. the whole menu is gluten free and lots of options for vegan/lactose intolerance. the desert menu was great, lots of options. wish i could come again :)

Would not recommend. We were told to ne quite ( dispite being sober) at 21:30 on a Friday night. Perhaps my face doesn't fit or staff training needed as ruined an alright but expensive evening.

My daughter and I have a very delicious three course meal here and enjoyed every mouthful. We chose the vegan options which were all absolutely beautifully presented. Lovely staff , lovely wine and setting.... what more could you ask for.

Always loved The Three Birds had a great experiences in the past so booked lunch with some friends - who were visiting Edinburgh . The restaurant was not busy and some staff sitting next to us chatting and singing. Which was quite annoying as we were ignored. We ordered sea bass and chicken dishes but the flavours were fighting each other …. Perhaps an enthusiastic chef experimenting 😳 Each of us ate the fish and chicken and left everything else ….. was our waitress interested to know why ? No, she removed our plates and gave us desert menus but she never returned to take our desert order ! We paid and left and went to another place for desert. They do say a quiet restaurant - worst service given - this was certainly the case. Birthday occasion ruined !

Update: Still awesome, still amazing, still a gem of Edinburgh Love 3 birds. It's certainly on the expensive side of things compared to the portions, but it's worth the visit; the good is simply delicious and also creative. It's great for special occasions. Staff are awesome, welcoming and friendly. Simply fab. It's a shame they stopped the half-price dinner tasters, they were a great way to have an affordable dinner -while helping out a bit.

I don't know how they produce such delicious food at incredibly reasonable prices but they do and we love it. They do a mean French and espresso martini too. Staff are delightful and create a lovely chilled out atmosphere even when they are rushed off their feet. One of our favourite places to eat for sure and we've never been disappointed.

We’ve eaten here over the years as live local and it really felt that the restaurant has upped its game. The food was presented well, beautifully flavoured with great portions for a local bistro. The wine, ambience just all worked - so impressed we’ve rebooked for a birthday celebration.

Came here for lunch today from Glasgow with my partner. It was absolutely a brilliant meal, we both said the food was unreal. Being gluten free it was great that I could eat nearly the whole menu! My partners favourite was the cornbread muffin and my stand out was the braised pork. The rocky road desert deserves its own shout out, that peanut butter and jelly ice-cream is something we both loved! Will definitely be back for another visit and recommend.

Another excellant meal at Three Birds. So good we returned for brunch two days later. We have eaten here several times over the last year, on our visits to Edinburgh, and have never been disappointed with any element of the experience. Good food, lovely staff and great atmosphere. Always a great choice of dishes beautifully presented. I’m not sure we’ll ever be able to visit Edinburgh without a visit to Three Birds.

Amazing food at a relaxed neighbourhood bistro. Pigeon breast was perfectly flavoured, Venison was miraculously succulent (perfect for cold November evenings) and ice-creams are a delicious and unusual. Lovely friendly service. A gem!

This amazing restaurant is the best dining experience I've had in Edinburgh. As somebody who cannot eat gluten, I stumbled across this place with an almost entirely gluten-free menu after searching online. The food was beyond incredible, the atmosphere cosy and relaxed, and the staff were superb, with the perfect balance of service against knowing when to leave you be. Will be defo be coming here again.

Still one of my old favourites of Edinburgh. Not pretentious - just 1. Delicious crowd pleasing food; and 2. Excellent personable service. 3. Cozy ambiance and tasteful decor It’s rare that I choose to go the same restaurant more than once but this is one of the few. Even with my high expectations from previous experiences, it still didn’t disappoint. This time, we shared the feta dip for a starter which was packed full of flavour. I then had the lamb which was cooked perfectly pink. The side of a bag of chips was definitely not needed but we were not complaining. Rum baba desert was amazing - like a unique sticky toffee pudding but on steroids. Would recommend swapping the vanilla ice cream with their coconut ice cream to match. Keep up the tremendous work!

We could only get a table at 9 because we had left it too late to book on a Saturday night - but this was genuinely a meal worth waiting for. The place was buzzing, a big party was celebrating but there were several smaller tables where the spirit was just as festive. The wait staff were just delightful, quippy and interested, engaged and deeply invested in us having a fabulous evening. The gluten free offering was brilliant - reassuringly straight forward and confidently explained. I had the delicious venison which was an extraordinary combination of flavour, my companion had the risotto and it was so yummy, I wasn't allowed even a mouthful. I am only sorry we discovered the on our last night in the city. Would recommend.

There aren’t enough superlatives to describe the wonderful quality of food, atmosphere and service 3 birds offers. Glass bottles of soft drink, finally somewhere offers this luxury! Even the tiny pieces of balsamic shallot in the olive oil that came with the sourdough bread were divine. I had the haggis bonbons served with watercress, pickle and the most sumptuous chive mayonnaise. To follow one of the best risottos I’ve ever had, plenty of dill and creamy Parmesan. For a busy Sunday our waitress was very attentive and helpful. We are I’ll definitely be back. New favourite.

Tiny place full of character. Pleasant staff and management. The menu promises a lot but the execution of the dishes leaves a bit to be desired. With a lot more cooking expertise, this could be a real gem. However, having that, the place attracts a lot of diners in search for something different from the run of the mill.
