Wild At Spirit in Colchester

Definitely our favourite breakfast spot! I love their breakfast baguette it’s jammed packed with delicious food and at a great price! Their milkshakes and cold coffees are just beyond amazing and the staff/owners are so lovely as well!! Can’t recommend enough

Great cafe with a nice selection of food options at a very reasonable price. The coffee is fantastic as well. On my recent visit to colchester i came here for brrakfast everyday and everything served to us was brilliant. The staff are very polite and friendly as well. The cafe also has an amazing selection of ice cream on offer which i would suggest trying as well

Recently discovered this place after walking past many times not realising they wasnt just an ice cream parlour. The all day breakfasts are very good with quality ingredients. The staff are always pleasant and accommodating. Not fast food but worth the wait for the quality. I'd deffo reccomend

Poor range of cold drinks - only diet coke or 3 flavours of fanta.Very long wait for food (over 45 minutes). There was only 6 other people in the place. Staff apologised for the wait saying they are really busy (making 2 sandwiches, 2 panini and 4 breakfasts does not constitute busy. Good job there was only 3 tables in there).The bread used for the panini is the cheapest nastiest panini bread possible. Very dry.Panini served with the most uninspiring side salad possible (diced green lettuce, red onion and cucumber - no dressing).White flat wasnt very good.Staff were polite.

Stopped her to have an ice-cream to visit off our catch-up. It was amazing! I would recommend visiting if you want some ice-cream in Colchester and they have a flavour for everyone! My only regret was not having it with waffles!

my daughter has been diganosed with celiac n they do great foid and got some great advice of recipes as new to it all. very clean. freindly staff too

We have been there a few times before for ice cream, they have a large choice, and very good. We loved that independant little place.We went there for a Saturday lunch with friends and kids. The lady serving was nice to the kids. We ordered a veggie chilli, a chili con carne (my favourite, which i was really looking forward to) and other dishes. 1adult arriving afterwards, sent us a text asking us to order a chili con carne. So my daughter, 14, went to see the waitress and said could i order another chili con carne. The waitress said “ok so that’s 2with meat and one without”. YesThe food arrives : 2 chicken curry which noone ordered. We said so straight away. She went back to the kitchen, and came back with the plates, saying to my daughter you did ask for 2curries. We said, no we are sure that we ordered 3chili, one veggie and 2 with meat. Another lady from the kitchen shouted, yeah i heard you say “curry”. The waitress: I can make chili con carne but it’s going to take 1/2h extra and you will to pay for curry and chili. My daughter grew up here and has no accent.It was uncomfortable and we didn’t want to wait and pay for things we never ordered. We were very accomodating and said we’ll have your curry, and to be fair it looked nice.We paid the bill in full and there was never an apology or any kind of nice words towards the confusion. We are sure to have ordered chili, we have a text message asking for a chili con carne, they may have heard curry. I think the mistake happened when the waitress made the order to the kitchen. They could have at least shared some responsability. They way they handled the situation was aggressive towards us, not taking any blame, or leaving any doubt. It’s not the best customer service. The food was good but it left us a bad taste. If they had been nicer dealing with it, we would go back, but this put us off.So i recommend you go, but write the order yourself on a paper, to avoid being served something else.

They do a really good full English Breakfast..quality ingredients..good value for money..plus great ice cream deserts.

In town on a Saturday morning looking for a late breakfast, tried a couple of places but all busy. Walked past and spotted a table (it’s only small) and ordered two full English and an omelette. Prices reasonable, breakfast was probably one of the best we’ve had in a long time. All well cooked and hot. Would definitely head back.

Visited here on a Saturday lunch time. I had not been here before and passing by we decided to give it a go as it did not look too busy.The staff were friendly enough and I ordered a sausage sandwich and my wife ordered the soup of the day (tomato) and we shared a bottle of diet coke. We waited a good half hour for the food to arrive and when it did my sausages were warm at best and the bread had clearly sat out for a while as the edges were very dry and my wifes' soup was very salty. We expected more for a £10+ quick lunch and this was not great. there are lots of cafes in Colchester and if this is not to be one of those that does not last they really need to up their game. Not recommended.

I have known the chef (luke) for a few years as a customer at my store. He popped in today and as i was about to head out to greggs to get my lunch I decided to take a shot on what his restaurant has to offer. Myself and a friend both ordered a bbq pulled pork panini and a hot drink. We made the right choice, so tasty and with a side salad and nachos, all very well presented and delivered to my door as a local buisness nearby. I will most certainly will be getting more of my lunches from here. Awesome job and keep it up :)

First visit after been recommended by friend for amazing milkshakes.There was a queue of 3 customers and the girl behind the till didn't look really bothered to do her job quickly.After waiting to order we waited 35 minutes for one of the worse flat white ever had which was lukewarm milk and a freakshake which was too liquid.The problem I have is that during my 35 minutes wait for a coffee and a milkshake there were only 2 tables of customers totalling 6 people including us and 3 members of Staff standing chatting and eating ice cream.I can understand having to wait that long if the shop was incredibly busy and you are understaffed but this was not the case.When finally we left the shop I was completely ignored by your Staff when I said "bye" as they were too busy chatting.

Lovely people, great welcoming atmosphere. And it was the best breakfast ever. I recommend their milkshakes and waffle breakfast, with bacon, egg and maple syrup. It was so good, I went back the next day with another friend.

Really enjoyed a healthy lunch here at Wild at Spirit. Nice different menu for most tastes. We enjoyed a salad with humous and avocado. The humous was delicious. Great selection of ice creams for dessert. Good value and healthy options can be ignored if desired. Would recommend

Chose this place as somewhere to go for a special ice cream sundae for my son and he was not disappointed. Fab selection of good quality ice cream ( he is 6 so of course chose random combinations !) I chose this place over kaspas as it looked cleaner and less brash and really nice to support local independent businesses. I also had a sandwich which was nice. I would go back and would definitely recommend for good quality shakes/ sundaes and cafe type lunch food

The sandwiches here are wonderful but maybe a little overfilled. I do want to add though their ice cream is some of the best I’ve tasted in a very long time.

Very clean interior and exterior. Varied and interesting menu which is well set out and clear. Extensive range of ice cream flavours. Vegan and vegetarian dishes Friendly staff and excellent food. I had a chicken bacon and cheddar panini with Doritos and a dressed salad garnish. Absolutely delicious. Shall definitely visit again

Visited with my daughter for a lunch time treat. The restaurant had a relaxed vibe and a varied menu. We both had a toasted panini which came with a generous portion of salad and tortilla chips. Service was pleasant and prompt. We noticed they also have a great range of ice creams. Will visit again.

Stopped for a coffee before heading home. Discovered the chef was really enthusiastic about curry - without the calories. It was late in the day to have lunch so I opted for taking away the Sag curry sauce, and finished the chicken curry at home. I followed the instructions given by Luke on heating - The curry was absolutely delicious. IT is such a pleasure to come across a cafe/restaurant that cooks delicious food and thinking about how the food affects us (diabetics) when we want to reduce fats and sugars.

Lovely restaurant. Always pop In when in town. Lovely slimming world options. Lasagne is my favourite. Kids love the wide range of delicious ice creams. Highly recommended

Went for lunch on a Thursday with my partner, I had an English breakfast and added the optional black pudding, all of it was amazing, coffee was included, also nice. Partner went for pulled pork and cheddar panini which was delicious.We shared a side of very reasonably priced cheesey garlic bread, also very nice. Huge range on the menu and it sounds amazing, will definitely be returning soon, more than once. Can't recommend highly enough. Seemed to be a lot if vegan options too, not that I paid much attention. Service the same standard as everything else. Thank you

Visited here for 1st time today with my daughter. Excellent selection of ice creams - hard to choose! We had sundaes with toppings, sauce & cream. Yum. Friendly service & value for money. Great choices for vegans, too. We'll be back!

Wow . Fantastic vegetarian breakfast...freshly cooked and with the lovely addition of avocado. The place is welcoming and friendly. Staff attentive and polite. It also serves unusual meat options for the carnivores which come highly recommended. Huge selection of ice creams as well . We now head for this restaurant as our first choice.

My friend and I went for lunch around half 12- we both had baguettes with salad, juice, and a coffee. There was a good variety of food with vegan and vegetarian options.The gentleman who owned it was working on his own, and despite having to run the floor and the kitchen was completely welcoming and helpful, and the service was excellent. The food was all homemade/ prepared fresh, and you could really taste the quality. The man who was running everything was excited to talk about how he made his pesto or scones if you asked, and it tasted amazing. An excellent lunch and excellent service- it was our first time there and we will definitely be going back!

Was looking for a new place for breakfast in town during Easter and stumbled across Wild at Spirit. Not only was I greeted by the owner but the breakfast was fantastic. My friend having scrambled eggs on toast and myself a sausage/bacon sarnie which cured the hangover to say the least! Will definitely be returning in the near future. Tom C

Service was atrocious with staff who were too busy chatting amongst themselves to be bothered to rectify an on going problem (apparently) with orders and we were left there obviously unattended whilst people who had come in after us were served their food. There was no apology offered by either service staff and the excuse "we're busy" was shouted over males shoulder at us. The children were very upset by the experience. Awful

Went in for lunch with my daughter and was amazed at the décor changes, which made it look spacious, it was fresh and very clean with a lovely atmosphere. which made you feel relaxed. The food was excellent, we had jackets potatoes with side salad and coleslaw. They were the best jacket potatoes I have ever had in Colchester. and the large Latte was lovely. Differently be going back, we enjoyed it so much. I would say it is excellent value as well.

I popped in here for the first time today with my mum for some lunch.Absolutely fantasic service, promt arrival of the food.We both had the Avocado, spinnich and hummus sandwich which was amazing.I recommend the snickers freak shake, a blimmin delicious treat.Thank you so much.We'll be back.

Popped in here for coffee with a non-vegan friend and found there was a wonderful choice of vegan options ... had a tasty sandwich with humus, salad and advocado, tortilla chips and side salad plus soya latte. I could have had a Rosti burger but saving that 'til next time :-) Very friendly and informative service - would definitely recommend to friends. Fair prices for good food. If they offered vegan friendly cake I'd rate it excellent ;-) but that might be happening in the New Year as they're planning a separate Vegan Menu.

Been here a few times now and it’s been lovely every time! It reminds me of the old ACanteen in Chelmsford.Maybe they should try and expand the menu. Also, the opening times are sometimes incorrect on the website compared to Facebook and googleVery nice

I have visited Wild at Spirit several times now and have always enjoyed the experience the food and the service provided by friendly staff. I often bring my Autistic son in with me and he really likes the calm atmosphere and will quite happily sit and read his magazines or play on his iPad, without becoming distressed. This has made a massive change for us as a family as it means we get to spend time together away from home in an environment where my son is comfortable being around other people, as long as he gets to eat sausages and toast followed by a tub of delicious ice cream!

I really struggled to rate this venue between very good and average for several reasons. I would put the main reason down to there being better cafes in Colchester. That's not to say there is loads wrong with this one but I just prefer other venues.The venue itself has a nice atmosphere and the general decor is clean and bright. The seating and tables are comfy and it's a small venue so rather cosy as well, but not so cosy you are sitting on top of other customers.The Menu consists of a selection of breakfasts, Paninis, sandwiches, baked potatoes, pie and mash, sausage and mash with Vegan and gluten free options available.The main attraction is most likely the Hand made Ice cream, sorbet and waffles. The ice cream is delicious and there is a great selection.Really good prices and not at all over priced which is nice to see.Service was good and the staff were friendly.My only criticism would be please do not use chipped crockery and fill up the cutlery and sugar pots on the tables.

Stopped here for a quick lunch on our way to Colchester Castle Museum. The staff were very friendly and the sandwiches were lovely and filled to the brim with good chicken and bacon! We would definitely go back.

I was honestly so surprised that such a small place offered so much to eat. The cafe can sit a few people but does get very busy over lunch. We went today for some lunch and we were happy to see such variety. I had a baked potato and my other half had alpaca sausages and mash. It's a very interesting meat! The staff were kind and quick and the milkshakes (made from their awesome ice creams) are to die for. Cannot wait to visit again :)

Went here with my mother on a recommendation from a friend and I'm glad we did! Food was great, very tasty and cheap! I had the bbq chicken and mozzarella panini which comes with tortillas and salad and it was so yummy! panini roll was lovely and soft too. Mum tried the kangaroo sausage and mash! Very odd but was delicious! Mash was very creamy and the onion gravy was great. Have since been back with a friend and will continue to visit, might have to try the ice cream next time!

Very nice place, and very cosy. The food was good and the mix up was resolved very quickly and efficiently. It isn't very big, but it was fine for us.

Fortunate to get tickets for a canopies night and savoured the many different tastes which were great. Decided to go back for lunch with my family, and the 4 of us tried different meals which were very tasty. Coffee's then we all had a choice of the wide variety of ice creams. Extremely tasty. Well worth the visit.

The ice cream is stunning and tastes as good as it looks, the menu has loads of vegan options as well as meat offerings, they have exotic meat offerings too, I've been lucky enough to try basically everything and it is all so tasty. I'd recommend it to anyone! Especially with their prices

Have been to this cafe several times now and the food is great for a good price. There's a large selection of food and the exotic meat options are really good for those who like to try something new. They offer a lot of nice vegan options which is nice to see as I have vegan friends so it's good to have a cafe that caters for both. I have also been to two of their monthly Cocktail and Canopè nights, the food is on a whole new level. Amazing fine dining style nibbles. If you needed catering for an event they would be my first choice.

We went here on a recommendation with our son and we're not disappointed. There's such a wonderful selection of ice cream and frozen yoghurt plus the coffee is great too. We've subsequently been back for food and will continue to pop in whenever we are in Colchester. The staff are really friendly and welcoming. The menu offers some different choices for vegetarians rather than the run of the mill cheese options I see in most places. Long may you stay open Wild at Spirit!

Stopped for tea and toasted tea cake. Very reasonably priced. Served by a polite lad. Noticed that they did a range of hot foods and were advertising a roast vegetable lasagne which i would certainly try next time .Would use again when shopping in town.
