I liked this Pub straight away, atmosphere from times gone by, the owner is very kind and the staff are equally friendly and nice. The beers are typical English and one is changed every week and the food is truly fantastic, I am Italian so I am very attentive to food and I assure you you won't be disappointed. I have eaten here and the food was great but i have not done this regularly enough to make a fair comment. I must say however that the beer here is some of the best around With a selection of largers and ciders helping to appeal to all types of individual. It really is the superior real ale selection and how well it is kept along with the atmosphere that makes this pub one of the best around. I can count the number of public houses in which i have never had a single, ( even a slightly on its way out ) pint on one hand and im happy to say this is one of them. Perfect track record from my experiences here!

Absolutely hilarious experience. Brilliant team working here, who without doubt must be trying to secure a Karen's franchise in Malmesbury. Stopped in to watch the England match, totally awesome. Asked the barman, Broocie was that you?, for a coke, met with the blunt response 'is that it?' and given very short shrift. Didn't think anything of it. Had our drink, then went up for another. Was told 'you've left something on your table!' Didn't really get it, but then realised Broocie meant the empty glasses. We hadn't brought our empty glasses back to the bar and it really pissed Broocie off, it was so funny. He was behind the bar drinking the profits and expecting the customers to do the work, good lad, totally got this business sussed!! To be fair, I don't think he has enough staff, we only saw about six to eight different people behind the bar while we were there 😂, but one of them might have been the chef getting tanked up too, apologies if I am mistaken on that Broocie. We enjoyed watching them all moaning about the England match, asking each other why these bloody games always seem to go to extra time, extending their misery and meaning all these w*nkers remaining even longer in the pub. It's your pub Broocie you should choose what you watch, I would have turned it over or off, if it had been me. It's so refreshing to find a place where the barman is so authentic, no fake pleasantries or sucking up to customers, just open and honest hatred of them. Thank you so much for making this such an unforgettable experience for us, if we are ever passing through again we will be sure to pop in and say hello and you can tell us to f*ck off in person.

Good solid grub and a very good selection of beers. There was an issue with our order as one meal didn't arrive with the others. The young lady serving us was completely honest and told us it hadn't been started, but would be about 6 minutes. It arrived as promised. When the bill vame she had removed the drinks that went with the delayed meal. We were impressed at that and her initial honesty and the overall service quality.

Firstly the Food, Very nice with good portion size. However the website states £10 for a roast dinner when in fact it is £15. We ordered 4 main meals and a meal off the kids menu, Main meals came in good time but the kids meal arrived wrong and had to be sent back, by the time my son got his meal i had almost finished mine. Once the main meal was finished we were asked if we wanted dessert, we asked for the menu to allow us to decide 15 to 20 mins later we finally got asked if we would like dessert,( to late by this time.) As we finished our drinks we were asked if we would like anything else or just our bill, we felt rushed to move on. when the bill arrived it was hand written with amounts against food and drinks so we had no way checking the bill and/or seeing what things cost. Small things make the difference between a return visit or a 1 off

A cosy spot for lunch and a simple but good menu. I had the sausage and mash which was delicious, my mother had the sea bream which was average. Service lacked here and was rather slap dash for example putting water jug down clashing the glass on the way down; Very indiscreetly saying the amount of the bill out loud for us both to hear - and as she held the card reader for us, called to her colleague who was clearing another table next to us, telling colleague that the neighbouring table had left a tip. I thought it was extremely rude tbh.

This is one of Malmesbury's best kept secrets. Totally unassuming and while other places come & go this has been a fixture for as long as I can remember. Not the widest menu, but as many will know that is a good thing! There are day specials on the blackboard to keep it intesting. Been there many times over the years and the food has always been good. Never been disappointed. Tip: Get a table next to the large window to get the best view of the high street I know. To summarise: honest and unpretentious.

Half an hour before the kitchen closed we went to give our order only to be told the kitchen was closed. The Waitress, rather than apologise for the mix up, was quite the opposite. The bar man looked blankly at us and then shrugged his shoulders and walked away. Won’t be returning, not a friendly atmosphere for those visiting malmesbury. Arrived mid-morning to explore the town. Interesting Abbey, many old buildings. Come lunchtime, chose The Whole Hog, right in the town centre, looking out onto the Market Cross. It was a good choice. Sat at one of the window tables, greeted enthusiastically by the young lady looking after the restaurant. Once drinks were chosen and delivered, ordered sausage and mash plus steak and ale pie with flakey pastry. Also ordered a glass of red wine. I was impressed, not only by the generous serve, but also the barman poured a small amount into a seperate glass and tasted was Ok before handing me my glass. First time this very basic good practice has been witnessed this trip. Food was high standard pub food, tasty, generous serves. We would recommend The Whole Hog strongly.

Sent it back to cook a bit more. When the waitress brought it back she said the chef was worried it might be too well done. Edges looked ok. But when I cut into middle - still very rare. Didn’t bother sending back again as chips and mushrooms were getting cold. Left some to show it was rare. Told the waitress. She said chef was surprised! First night was perfect straight off. Upon receiving menu’s not asked about drinks whilst perusing their wares? The waitress although very kind and polite was totally inept. In serious need of training regards the job, please put your mobile phone away whilst at work? Didn’t know what real ale was despite the 3 handpulls at the bar 😳. Couldn’t recall the beers on offer despite being told by the barman. Took our order but didn’t understand the menu, I ordered the steak with onion rings on the side which they don’t do ?? The steak was absolutely not worth the exhorbeftent asking price, came with chips and a peppercorn sauce when I actually wanted the garlic butter, wasn’t even asked? The steak was on the small side and slightly gristly, chips okay as was the sauce but that was it. The wife enjoyed her lamb cooked in red wine pie so wasn’t a total loss. Not asked if we wanted more drinks, didn’t get asked if we wanted a dessert. Asked for the bill and left asap, wouldn’t go back.

A nice little stop off on a Friday enroute to Bath. Set in the smaller Square of town. A popular friendly pub with good selection of drinks. Does get busy which is great but might just need to be prepared to stand.

Lovely pub but……don’t ask for a cocktail, we ordered a pornstar martini which consisted of passionfruit J2O and vodka poured straight into a martini glass with a glass of Prosecco on the side and they charged us £10 for it.

We went in and asked the staff if they catered for gluten free and was told they did so we sat down and ordered a drink whilst looking over the menu unfortunately and very disappointed there was nothing I could have so I asked a member of staff who said he wasn’t aloud to tell me what I could choose but said there was a few things. I’m not a fussy eater and at this point was getting hangry so we decided to leave , shame really as it is a nice place
