Attention when booking on Saturdays While the welcome was friendly, there was a live gig in the pub on Saturday until late that literally made everything in the room shake. At the agreed hour for breakfast no-one showed up. As the dining room was barely cleaned up from the night before, it didn't look very inviting anyway. I appreciate everyone enjoys a decent party at times, but hosting guests does indeed come with some responsibilities. In general, the place could benefit from a thorough remodelling. The window of my room didn't close for instance, I guess that's why the heating was on mid-June.

All the other eateries on the high st., were fully booked but the Lamb said they would book me in. Due to a new member of staff, behind the bar, I did wait an hour for my meal. It was so worth the wait !!! I ordered the sea bass meal, it was a really enjoyable dish, I loved it ! So glad the other establishments, couldn't accomodate me.

Had lunch here with an old family friend and very impressed with the roast choices, and even more so with the slightly unexpected beef rendang option. The pub website says the cook just does whatever takes her imagination from dishes around the globe, and there was no doubt this was homemade with real care - pieces of whole cinnamon and cardamom giving a wonderful deep flavour. Excellent value and and a homely atmosphere of a real local pub.

My wife and I met my Mum for a week day lunch and it was a wonderful meal. The menu was marked with ‘gf’ for gluten free food that as a coeliac I found incredible. I had the gluten free fish and chips and it was quite possibly the best I’ve ever had, the chips were incredible, the batter crisp without any snogginess at all. My wife had a Christmas special of bacon wrapped turkey in a brioche bun with sides of fries, mayonnaise, and cranberry sauce. My Mum had steak and ale pie with mashed potato and seasonal veg. Both really enjoyed there main.

Wish is had taken food photos. My roast beef was fantastic, really tender rare roast beef, roast potatoes that were crisp in the outside and fluffy in the middle, amazing braised red cabbage, beans, peas, leaks, parsnips all fantastic. A lovely home made Yorkshire pudding that actually tasted of beef dripping and lovely gravy. Best Sunday roast I’ve have for years and at £12, great value. My wife had 10oz rump steak, it was grilled to perfection, mushroom, chips and grilled tomatoes were all great. The onion rings though......incredible!! Topped off with a lovely Bearnaise sauce. The chef here knows how to cook.....really, really well. There’s a lovely atmosphere in the pub and the staff were really friendly and efficient. And then there’s the flower baskets. Beautiful. Wish this was my local.

So we met up here for a group get together. Bar staff came across as very friendly. The food was tasty and well presented not quite what we was expecting. Me and the wife had the lamb though very tasty just didn’t quite seem enough we both left feeling still hungry and our friends portion seemed a fair bit larger. Though they forgot our shallots they bought them out separately after we asked. Considering we all ordered one after the other at the bar there seemed to be quite a delay in between meals coming out to the point we had finished by the time the next lot came out that’s the main reason for the marking down. I would definitely eat here again if I was in the area but maybe order something bigger.

Two of us popped in for lunch today. It was very quiet. We ordered a small plate of crushed avocado on toast with a poached egg. The two dishes arrived and it didn’t look particularly appetising for 8.50 but it was adequate. I asked for some mayonnaise but was told it would be an extra 20p! This was the first time I had been charged extra for mayonnaise so declined. Not sure I will return

On local recommendations I tried The Lamb Inn for Sunday lunch but it was extremely disappointing. We ordered nut roast which was actually inedible. We met the proprietor, a charming interesting man who has run the place since 38 years. Had chosen this hostelry to stay with friends based on a glowing 'Main' entry in Good Pub guide. Excellent choice of beer, cider and most welcoming team. However the bedrooms in the main building were a little 'tired' and needed some tender loving care and attention. The other unfortunate problem was that the chef had gone on holiday the day we arrived and there was no hot food in the evenings. This was a shame as we had chosen this Inn partly due to the glowing reports of their menu and cooking. There was however a generous breakfast in the morning. Note that parking could be problematic although staff are helpful with suggestions. Possibly a pub to eat and drink at but not stay over at present.

Met two friends here for lunch. The Chardonnay was very good for a pub, and they said the beer is good. Friendly owners and staff, with their own dogs, so definitely dog-friendly. Big enclosed courtyard with tables out the back, so looks very safe for children and animals. The food was a good pub standard (but not gastro-pub), but the long menu gives away that a lot of it is probably frozen. Our starters of deep-fried squid and whitebait were tasty and sizeable; scampi and chips was good, with good reports from our friends re the pies. So over all very happy with our choice, and would go again. Two beers, three Chardonnay, large Coke, bottle of Rioja, three starters, four mains, two coffees came to £110 (tip extra).

The Lamb is a traditional English pub serving a pretty typical English pub menu. We visited on a Sunday lunchtime and ate in the small courtyard in the April sunshine. Our party of 4 adults and 3 children were made most welcome. The pub was able to offer board games and paper and pens to entertain the children which was much appreciated as we had left tablets in the car.Our food was excellent - my roast pork came with the largest variety of vegetables I have ever seen in a pub Sunday roast and was nicely done and the portions were generous. I could have done with a larger plate to avoid firing vegetables into my lap while cutting my meat. The pub was very accommodating to my 6 year old daughter, happy to convert chicken from another dish into a chicken Sunday roast which wasn't on the menu. Our waitress was excellent - friendly, efficient and the food arrived promptly. The only downside to our lunch was that the little courtyard doubles as the smoking area, but fortunately it was only lightly used.

My wife & I have been attending this Inn for just over a year now, we must have eaten here at least 8 - 10 times. We have also taken our friends a couple of times for a meal and a chat. Although we have tried various meals from the specials board, our favorite meal remains the steak & chips (we have tried all four options). The chips have the skins left on and are cooked to perfection. I personally enjoy the peppercorn sauce, it is the most creamy and thick sauce I have ever had. Also you get the odd extra hot peppercorn which livens you up a bit. We have never had any problems with our meals and have always found them to be of a high quality. The young ladies that have served us are always very cheerful/helpful and nothing is to much trouble for them in assisting you. The beers are always fresh with plenty of life in the glass. They did sell a Mango Cider for a while which was superb, but sadly this is no longer available. Hopefully later in the year it will return. The wine list is quite good and my wife always enjoys a glass or two. We have only ever visited during a lunch time, mainly on a Saturday, but have stayed sometimes for 3.5 hours with friends. Although on occasions the pub is quite busy, we have never found it to be rammed full which is part of the attraction for us, we do like to hear what we are saying without having to raise our voices. Also the toilets are always clean & tidy (with a good hand soap) with a very good hand dryer. Long may this Inn continue as is, as I will be stumped to find another as pleasant as this one.

A 'good pub' guide suggested this be a worthwhile stop in an unfamiliar town. Started the visit by requesting the dog dirt outside the outdoor entrance to the loos be removed. Decent pint of IPA straight from the barrel. An average lunch. Prawn cocktails were fine. Steak pudding was enjoyed. Ham, egg and chips was OK. Steak was tough and mostly left. I called The Lamb to book our work Christmas meal. Food is not normally available on a Friday evening, but the landlord offered to open the kitchen as we were a party of 8. We had the small stable room off the rear courtyard, it was lovely, very rustic and we were able to play our own music. I went for the scallop, black pudding and chorizo - it was well cooked and delicious, as was the main course of steak and all the trimmings. Everything was beautifully presented, service was excellent and every person in our group was very happy with every course. The Lamb is a great pub to eat in, and I would definitely recommend it. Monday lunch for two. What a big mistake. First off service - slow, dull and no interest. Partly served us,then three other customers, then back to us. So with three other orders in I asked how long our order would take. Not long, they are only small orders. The order prior to ours was served, eaten and the person finished his drink and left. Our meal took another 12 mins to come (40 mins total). Fish and chips looked great. Small fish with loads of batter to make it look massive. Still the chips were warm and the mushy peas were very hot (the must have just come out off the microwave). With their dogs roaming around and coming up while we eat the experience was an experience (bad). So for £27 odd for meals and two drinks I defo will not be back.

I Spent a day exploring Avebury and the surrounding area and had booked the Lamb Inn as it was in nearby Marlborough which had been a town I had always wanted to go to for an evening out.The 'hotel' is actually a pub with rooms, but don't let this put you off. My room was large and airy overlooking the street. The only problem I can think of is the size of the door to the bathroom. And that the toilet is directly in the door. It's hard to explain without pictures I'm afraid! The inn has free wifi and the food is really good. I had a wild boar and chorizo pie and it was delicious. The bar in the inn was well stocked and had a great selection of real ale (craft beer for our US cousins). After an hour or so of mooching around the other pubs in Marlborough I went back to the Lamb as it was teh best I could find! All in all, it was a great place to stay if you don't mind the noise from the bar below, but it doesn't have a late licence during the week and by 11pm I was ready for bed anyway. As a note for parking, There is on-street and a small car park down the road. These are limited to 2 hours free parking until 6pm (until 8am) then no return within one hour. If you get there after 4pm you can then park until 10am the next day without worrying.

A well overdue review of the Lamb's Bar menu and specials board. Having eaten here a fair amount the last month or so, it is obvious that for a decent pub lunch in the town, the Lamb is hard to beat.It must be hard to get quality and consistency on a daily basis, but the team here seem to manage to produce tasty pub classics day in and day out. Looking over the menu and choosing my personal favourites the standout dishes have been : Large Prawn cocktail (as a main) is almost impossible to beat for value at £9 chuck in some bread and butter its a bargain... Moving on to cheese topped cottage pie, salmon fillet, steak and kidney pudding and the very excellentBlack pudding, saute potatoes, poached egg and salad are all brilliant pub fare. The steaks are always good well seasoned and served as ordered with plenty of trimmings and I have even managed to squeeze in a Roast Beef Dinner on Easter Sunday .... May go some way to explaining the recent padding I seem to be carrying around!! Oink! The Bar staff are brilliant, always smiling and happy to chat, the punters are an eclectic mix, but the kitchen is where the 5* s are won..... Quality and Consistency in a traditional pub environment with brilliant service. Its been a pleasure to have enjoyed the hospitality and warmth of a traditional English pub and Inn.Many Thanks Greg x

The Lamb is scruffy, dog-eared, drafty and excellent. My I commend the fully functional bar. How about a couple of pints from a (local brewer) Wadsworth barrel of an evening in a place that is stuck in its own splendid time warp. Also, lunch is well worth it: sumptuous pub grub served promptly. If you like your eating/drinking to be hermetically sealed, corporate and anodyne, go elsewhere. If your friend/date like it here, they're probably a keeper. May it never change! (Okay, okay I notice a Gin menu has crept in, but that's a subtle tweak to appeal to the, er, more refined clinetele/sad cases who don't drink ale. So they DO move with the times... Sort of.)

We chose this pub as it is convenient for the M4 and people travelling from London and Devon. There is no car park but when reserving a table the landlord was very helpful in suggesting parking spaces close by.Sunday lunch was tremendous. A selection of roast meats and one of the specials was venison in red wine which was much enjoyed. Vegetables were freshly prepared and included courgettes and leeks as well as roast potatoes and parsnips. The vegetarian option came with its own gravey.Despite the portions being very generous we could not resist the puddings even though two of us could only manage one to share. Also a good selection of well kept beer.Even though every table was full of people eating, service was efficient and friendly, amazed when later the landlord said they were short staffed , it did not affect service. This is a genuine and traditional local pub which does freshly cooked food. It is not smart or trendy but has a friendly atmosphere, very helpful staff and offers amazing value. It is certainly worth a return trip for a family get together .

Absolute shambles. Party organised to sit in the stable room out back with dogs. Struggled to get us all in. If everyone who intended coming had made it, not sure where they would have put us all. The place wasn't very clean. They got so many meals wrong and we waited for 90 minutes for food. The Landlord was abrupt and rude. Give this one a miss!!

Well the decor could do with a bit of a spruce up - but the food was really, really good. We had to wait a while for our starters to arrive but they were certainly worth the wait. I had scallops, bacon and black pudding for a starter - it was very well cooked and a huge portion for a starter. I couldn't finish my main of italian sausages on lentils but was able to take it away for lunch the next day. The other starters were big as well and the pie and chips yummy. The staff were very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. Great value too at a little over £80 for 3 of us - which included several rounds of drinks. Well worth a visit - go check it out!

Arrived just after mid-day to meet my cousin & husband who had booked a table for lunch. Pub had just opened & was empty & rather dark; miss-matched tables & chairs; did not look very inviting. However the young barman was very welcoming & had set out a reserved sign on a table for four. Served us our drinks & we looked at the menu & specials board. Good signs - local butchers & suppliers named & they try & get as much as possible from the local area. History of The Lamb inside menu - an old coaching inn - now an inn with 3 letting rooms.By 12:20 we were all sitting down chatting & ready to choose our food, helped by the bartender. Two wild venison steaks, belly of pork & a fish pie. Suggested we have the steaks medium rare, so we accepted. Excellent meals for all of us; we needed spoons for all the tasty gravy. Drinks were wine & the local beer - excellent & well priced. For desert my cousin & partner shared a pie & my wife had ice cream; again very tasty. We thought that £73 for food & drink was very fair value. By 1pm the tables were filling up with locals ordering lunch - sandwiches, bar snacks & full meals. We all said that it had been a very good choice of venue & good tasty home cooking. Thank you

Wipe your shoes as you leave is all i can say. This looked great from the outside, but its horrible once you enter. 6 of us went in and not one of us even got half way through our drinks before we felt the need to leave.

Just had lunch here. Table booked for 1.30 pm finally received starter at 2.50 and main followed at 3.30. Starter was fine but main poor. One roast was cold and the pig board platter was not as described on menu. Excuse for late food was there was a large party before us who had arrived later. No mention of this when we booked the night before. Pub old and shabby no atmosphere. Very disappointed.

The Lamb had been recommended to me for their food so I arranged a family lunch there. The menu provides a good range of options including vegetarian dishes. We all had starters and a main dish - mine being the smoked salmon to start which was draped with prawns and avocado, then fish again for a main - bream with pesto served with mashed potatoes. All ingredients were lovely and fresh, well cooked and presented with generous portions. It is not a smart overpriced gastro venue but a lovely traditional market town pub so great for locals or tourists to experience. I would certainly plan another meal there and recommend it to others.

I went to this pub for food and a pint. After waiting 45 minutes my food was served but I had to send it back because it was cold. I wan't too bothered about that but had the misfortune of having a short conversation with the owner who was particularly rude and unhelpful.

A spontaneous lunch post dog walk and a quick surf of Trip Advisor suggested The Lamb was ideal, and once again this site came up trumps. To be fair I'd been into the Lamb before when a band was playing and it was rocking, so hadn't really thought of it as a place to get great grub. My mistake!Hat tip to the lovely Lucy who gave us a warm welcome and served drinks while we perused a tempting and quality menu. Noting the pub had been serving the folk of Marlborough since 1672 - which gave new resonance to the pint of 'Numbers' my friend had (Kronenbourg 1664).We ordered and headed out the the courtyard garden opting for the dappled sunshine beneath a pergola while we waited what was a fleetingly short time for our food to arrive, delivered with a friendly flourish by Lucy and truly a feast for the eyes as well as our rumbling stomachs.I'd opted for the Chorizo Hash with Fried Duck Egg (pictured) and it was a delight to behold, an aromatic stack of chunky chorizo and so much more, with moat of fresh green leaves and topped with a duck egg fried to perfection and as golden as the sun above. It delivered a whopping taste explosion and every mouthful was a delight and I fought to savour rather than wolf down this delight from The Lamb.My friend, a thankfully non-judgy vegetarian, went for an altogether more delicate dish of a fragrant asparagus risotto, which was as delicate as my own dish was robust and was certainly delicious judging by the noises of appreciation coming from across the table. Did I mention the small bucket of plump crisp and fluffy chips on the side? Good chips. All told this was a great visit and kudos to The Lamb, both front of house and in the kitchen too and many thanks to the reviewers before me who sent me to this terrific pub with cracking food.

Stay clear of this place. How so many trip advisor members give it high ratings is beyond me. They must be easily pleased people. Sunday lunch visit, waited 50 mins on a mediocre, tasteless roast beef dish which contained watery, over-cooked veg. On the upside it was a large plateful of food however they clearly promote quantity over quality here! We ate in the old cattle shed in the courtyard and it was awful; cold, miserable and no atmosphere. The staff are inefficient, the decor is highly dated and this is more like a no-frills, cheap and cheerful establishment from the dark ages! It's set just off the high street so with a bit of luck you may miss it:)!

Visited this pub with family whilst on a day trip. Lovely old pub with all the original features & not modern & faceless like some of the ones today. All the original beams, very cozy. Right in the centre of Marlborough, off the main High Street. Good selection of beers on tap, plus all the usual bottled ones. The best bit is the food. Big portions and everything is completely cooked from scratch with fresh produce, nothing comes out of a packet. We went at lunchtime, so had sausage & mash (apparently according to my husband, the sausages tasted gorgeous), with loads of thick gravy & creamy mashed potato, burger & chips & my favourite which was the corned beef hash with fried eggs. I can honestly say it's the best corned beef hash I have ever tasted. Wow! Completely home made with chunks of beef, crushed potatoes & onions & the most amazing taste. It was round in shape & I reckon at least 2 inches deep with the eggs on the top. Apparently they are famous locally for their Sunday lunches which are enormous, but apparently it's best to book for these because they are so popular. The pub is also dog friendly & caters for people with gluten intolerance. I think we'll go back one Sunday just to try out the famed Sunday lunches.

this public house has not had all the cosmetic changes you tend to find in the modern pub. It has the low beams and stone floors that give it the character it desires. I am told that they have nice rooms - so if staying and want a bit of tradition why not try this one! The food is also great. Always a good sign when all the locals use it - also managed by the same Land Lady and Man as the Green Dragon in the Town - so again both are great traditional pubs.....serving good pub food.

I live in Marlborough and along the high street and the surrounds there is all sorts of cafes and restaurants catering for any sort of cuisine but the Lamb stands head and shoulders above them all. First off - its a pub and a fine example of an pub, welcoming, efficient and friendly. Food is excellent and the lamb has the best Sunday lunch in town. It is one of the more unusual venues for the Jazz festival, Parking in Marlborough is always a bit hit and miss if you do the "hunt the parking space along the High Street" game , far better to park in the huge car park behind Waitrose and Walk the couple of hundred yards to the Lamb. Parking is free on Sunday BTW. Go there , enjoy the Lamb but leave some space for the locals - its our favourite pub too!

Forget all the others - the expensive Marlborough, the disappointing Wellington, the chain blandness of the Castle and Ball - the Lamb, found just off the High Street, has the best pub food in Marlborough (their burgers are to die for). The pub itself is always busy, full of life. There's darts and a quiz machine, perfext for whiling away an evening. In the summer they have a courtyard garden.I come with friends, with work, with my family. The staff are always friendly and the service swift and efficient.Top tip though: portions in their standard menu are decent, but the daily specials can sometimes be disappointingly small in comparison.

I chose this pub in Marlborough because it is dog-friendly. There is a good range of beer available and some unexpected items on the menu such as haggis which is a change from the more routine fayre on pub menus. The pub itself is very old and could do with some limited sprucing-up just to refresh without compromising its character. The main bonus for us though was the food which was remarkably good for a pub that has no pretensions to be anything more than a place to have a beer and enjoy some wholesome, honest food. Top marks to those in the kitchen (the landlady, I believe!).

We had lunch here before checking in to our hotel in Marlborough two weeks ago. The pub itself is a proper pub, comfy seats as well as the usual bar furniture and the food is good. We were greeted by two very friendly dogs, which I loved. The fire was roaring, it was icily cold outside and we were tucked up in this lovely pub - heaven. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and I would not hesitate to recommend this pub. We went there again the next day for a lighter lunch and will certainly make it a regular haunt when we are in Marlborough again.

My family and I had a great pre-Christmas lunch at the Lamb Inn today. Although the outside of the pub appeared more old-fashioned that its neighbours, the welcome was warm and friendly, the food was very good (the best roast potatoes I have eaten in a pub or restaurant) and the price was very good. Although I did not have any beer, they had a good selection of ales in casks to choose from. Definitely worth a visit!

We eat here every few weeks and always have very good meals. The cooking is done with care and flair and the specials change regularly so there is always an interesting choice. Its surprising its not much busier and I guess thats because its not directly on the High St - even though is only a few tens of yards off it. The outside seating is surrounded by old stables, brick gables and tiled roofs which are an attractive jumble of ages. All set off with a good display of hanging baskets. Its an honest old pub, not at all pretentious and all the better for that.

Went for a meal with the family in the evening. The staff was very welcoming and friendly. It wasn't very busy but we could see some tables needed a bit of a cleaning, nothing major but a wet cloth would have been ok. Food arrived promptly and and quality was very nice. I wasn't expected to be that good, to be honest, so once food arrived all the other little issues were 'partially' forgotten.

After being impressed with the lunch we had when we visited the town last summer, on the way back from visiting our daughter in Swindon we tried the pub again and we were not disappointed. We were surprised how quiet the place was on a Friday lunch time with only one table occupied when we came in. Our choices, chicken cooked in a cider sauce and chicken and mushroom pie both with fresh vegetables were excellent. So nice to have a proper pie with a base, not just a topping. They should have more lunch time trade.

We went in and asked the staff if they catered for gluten free and was told they did so we sat down and ordered a drink whilst looking over the menu unfortunately and very disappointed there was nothing I could have so I asked a member of staff who said he wasn’t aloud to tell me what I could choose but said there was a few things. I’m not a fussy eater and at this point was getting hangry so we decided to leave , shame really as it is a nice place
