Whitmore+Jackson in The Vale of Glamorgan

Had to send my breakfast back as it was all cold. When it was returned to me he said it’s fine now as he heated it in the microwave. Egg was hard and looked like plastic the rest was so dry. My daughter ordered a Panini when received had sesame seeds all over it,It didn’t say on the menu that it was seated bread, and weren’t asked if we had any allergies, I know it’s the responsibility of the person but it’s just courtesy to check. Server just said oh well and walked off. It was a very busy Sunday,guess it was an off day for all but £40 on breakfast that we couldn’t eat.

Best fry up on Barry Island 👍 Dog friendly, however expect a long list of dog rules when you arrive. As long as you have a well behaved dog you'll be ok.

WiFi doesn't work. Music is super loud, so hard to hold a conversation. My order was wrong, but the lady did change it & apologise. You have to order at the counter & collect your own cutlery, but it is dog friendly.

We enjoyed an excellent freshly cooked breakfast on a grey December day. A full English with tasty butchers sausages and bacon. Good coffee too! Friendly helpful service in nice surroundings with a sea view.

Lovely food in a lovely environment. Easy access as we took our parents who gave mobility issues, but just across from the disabled parking zone… they loved it! All day breakfast and coffee were fab. We can also recommend the ham salad bowl! Staff were lovely and spoke with us regularly. A really nice place to visit for a bite to eat and a drink, whilst taking a walk down the island.

Visited twice on day trip to Barry Island. Lovely lunch and then hot chocolate later in the afternoon. Very dog friendly and very reasonable price.

This is a great eatery, really lovely environment, with both indoor and outdoor seating. Lush sea views! Fantastic staff and excellent food. Working in Barry over the summer and this fast became my favourite place to have brunch, lunch and get much needed refreshments. Love the frappes! Vegetarian and Vegan options. Love the sourdough sandwiches! Amazing cakes! Most of all the staff make this place because they are super relaxed but offer a first class service.

Dirty tables, customers with dogs on seats next to tables. Barking dogs on opposite table disrupting our conversation. I love dogs and have a well behaved one myself. Personally I don't let my dog on furniture but understand some people do AT HOME, but for a cafe to let dogs on seats I think it's unhygienic. Wouldn't matter so much if I had seen any attempt by staff to clean anywhere. Not very good value compared to other cafes I frequent.

Food really tasty, staff friendly, lovely chilled vibe. Everything arrived quickly, good sized portions. Slight issues with the order (wasn't quite right) plus the coffee barely tasted of coffee, which was a disappointment. Otherwise pretty good.

Lovely lunch. We had the paninis great choice, nice fresh salad and coleslaw. Good portion. The milkshakes are awesome too! Very reasonable priced, didn't have to wait too long either! Would definitely recommend.

We came here for Afternoon tea to celebrate our grandchildrens GCSE results and graduation from University. The food was excellent and they catered for one gluten free which was outstanding .

The food and customer service was excellent. Was a delay with some of the food, and they were very apologetic about it and offered my wife and I a complimentary hot drink each to apologise. They then also refunded the breakfast I had as they felt it wasn't a good thing that I ate alone while my wife and kids waited. In summary, food excellent, customer service excellent. A little delay on this occasion.

I am GF and based on previous Trip Advisor reviews I went to Whitmore+Jackson for Breakfast/ Brunch with my 2YO, and family. On arrival it was fairly busy, but the waiter directed us to a choice of tables, and was pleasant. The menu insinuated GF options/ variants, but when I checked with the staff, I was given fully reassurances, on an item by item basis!! Sausages and Hashbrowns were not GF alternative, but were GF on all breakfasts, I just informed the waitress taking the order that I was GF for the chef to be aware (which I do even if ordering off a GF menu!) I had one of the nicest all-day-breakfasts with good quality GF bread. Prices were reasonable coming in at sub £40 for 4xmeals and drinks. I didn't ask for a childs menu as my LB wanted a jacket potato, there wasn't one clearly visible, nor was I asked if I wanted one (but I find that is the standard in most cafe-type eateries!). There were baby seats available, but we gave these up some time ago! The pews/ benches in some areas were high in relation to the table, which was great for my LB and other small children we saw.

really nice atmosphere, good selection of food and great quality, presented well. The menu is available as gluten free and dairy free which is fantastic quality. We came back later for a coffee and cake and the selection was brilliant. Keep up the good work :)

Lovely place with friendly, helpful staff. Dogs were allowed in and welcomed. Food was delicious, reasonably priced and came out really quickly.

Husband and I were staying at the Premier Inn. Neither of us are fans of buffet breakfast so we walked to Whitmore and Jackson for brekky ( we’ve eaten here before so knew it was good. It’s also half the price of a PI breakfast, decent coffee. ( latte is lovely) and the food is hot, hot, hot and freshly cooked Absolutely no complaints at all and highly recommend if you’re in the area that this is where you go for a generous, good quality, hot breakfast

Bought an afternoon tea as a Xmas present for my mother, tried booking for over 2 weeks without success phone line just ringing out. Sent a message via messenger automatic response back saying to book afternoon tea etc phone the number below the same number we've been trying for the last 2 weeks! Don't live local so decided to visit the shop to see if they were still open, in which they were. When mentioning we have been trying to phone to book an afternoon tea the guy rudely responded as well yes we are too busy to answer the phone as u can see, opened the till and slapped 40 pound in my mother's hand as a refund!!! Oh my gosh, very rude and abrupt man, have always came here for our afternoon teas but after that response today we won't be returning. Disgusting

Excellent location and a plentiful supply of patrons. This coffee shop cafe type establishment leaves a bit to be desired. I get that they’re busy but tables were grotty everywhere. Plates of half eaten food and cups on all the tables. We found a seat and cleared the table ourselves. Inside it’s not much better with ample staff to keep on top of the mess but seemingly oblivious. We ordered drinks and sat outside in the sunshine and watched the world go by. This place was busy but then again everywhere was busy. A small investment in service and it would be even busier.

Visit on a cold, frosty and windy morning. The breakfast was excellent with good quality sausage and bacon, coffee really good, staff friendly and helpful and it's dog friendly. Recommended!

As well as being a great café with friendly staff and great service, they can adapt most meals to make them gluten free (or offer an alternative). They also stock an array of tasty gluten free cakes. A real asset, and a pleasure to visit when on Barry Island

Had gluten free and vegan options available for their breakfast and their cakes. They had milk alternatives as well. The poached eggs were delicious and their gluten free bread was some of the best I've had in a cafe. Good coffee and friendly staff.

Whitmore and Jackson always make a fab brekkie which is good value for the area. Only suggestion would be with the waffles being so big, another slice or two of bacon is needed. I recommend to everyone visiting the area.

We came here for breakfast on Tuesday 13th July at 10am. It was a bit busy but staff were very attentive, polite and friendly. We had Ham and Mushroom Omlette, Full English Breakfast, a cup of Berry tea and a can of coke. It was 15.30 £... Absolutely lovely. Hot, fresh and cheap. Highly recommended.

Called in today for a drink, first visit. Only beers on draught were lagers, the only bottled beer was Peroni. Ordered Peroni and Cabernet Sauvignon White wine' Wine was undrinkable, beer was served in the bottle, no glass was offered,Will not be returning

There was 14 adults all arriving at Barry seafront and I needed to sort out lunch for them all. One quick phone call earlier in the week and a deposit paid over the phone we had 7 grazing boxes ready and waiting for us at 13.30 ish on Saturday Each box was more than enough for a couple to share and everyone in the group said they were delicious We managed to get a seat for everyone outside and the teas and coffees that we ordered were served lovely and hot and quickly.Fabulous food, fabulous service Thank you so much for making our lunch perfect

A no nonsense, well presented and good value breakfast was had at this unpretentious cafe with a sea view. Well done - although you could put less water in the americano coffee, but that is down to personal taste!

Visit to Barry Island while on holiday and we decided to stop for a bite to eat. We all ordered Paninis, the came toasted which was a nice surprise. The were tasty and a nice alternative. The weather was great and we sat on the pavement outside and watched the world go by.

We live locally and are regular customers of W+J. The staff are warm, friendly and the food is good, honest fare, with fresh hearty salads and great selection of breakfasts and light meals. Smaller menu after lockdown but the venue still very busy and super safe. Great coffee! Would recommend

A really good value for money breakfast . Food was fresh , tasty and well presented. The coffee was amazing and the best on our holiday in Wales. The only small items to improve is to provide sugar and something to stir with and had to ask twice for cutlery. Very covid secure as well.

Took my daughter here for afternoon tea. The place does look a little run down from the outside and the toilet flush was broken which wasn't ideal, however, the staff were very helpful and friendly and the tea itself was lovely. I had booked for a table outside due to Covid, but it was so hot that I didn't want my grandaughter sitting in the sun while we eat. The staff were very accommodating and found us a large table on our own in a corner so I felt quite safe. They were participating in the Government's Eat Out scheme too, so while they were not doing children's afternoon teas due to a limited menu (I assume due to Covid) everything was incredibly cheap! We couldn't finish it all and we're duly supplied with boxes to take the rest home!

This is a hidden gem in Barry island the food is outstanding, full of energy and bustle nothing is too much trouble for all the staff . The breakfast is fabulous all locally sourced products from an ex local butcher Vic Hopkins . I really hope everyone will support this business once reopened after such a difficult time in our lives it really does deserve future success and put the smile back on people’s faces whilst walking again on the regenerated lovely promenade of Barry with beautiful surrounding walks .

Always come here for breakfast/brunch with our dog. Before or after a long walk. Love the fact only well behaved dogs allowed and there is a dog side of the cafe and a non dog side. Food is always amazing and they advertise on the menu that they source food locally eg Vic Hopkins meat

Lovely half term treat at W & J. Can’t fault the Afternoon tea which was gorgeous. From warm welsh cakes and quiches to generous sized scones, sandwiches and cake treats, with a huge pot of tea. The staff are always so lovely here and checked on us, offering more tea and not rushing us to leave. Would definitely recommend for a sweet treat afternoon

Delicious full breakfast for me and excellent eggs royale for my partner. Love that they welcome dogs and also have tables that are for people without dogs - brilliant! Service friendly and efficient with a marvellous, relaxed atmosphere. No wonder it's busy - they deserve to be!

We visited Whitmore and Jackson by chance when we were unable to eat at the Resteraunt we had intended to visit. We have a very good meal - a salad for me with chicken pieces and my friend and my husband had an omelette. All were very good, though we had intended to have a slightly larger mid-day meal. We will visit again now that we know what to expect. The surprising thing about this place is that they are very welcoming to dogs. To Barry Island many people take their dogs with them for excercise in the Winter months, and this is a place where they can have a meal too.

Lovely staff and food but what let’s it down is dogs everywhere ! There is supposed to be a dog free section but two were let in , one of which peed on the floor!! It is an eating establishment !

Ive visited this local Cafe a few times now, It's very popular with reasonably priced quality food and pleasant environment which means it's very busy in all weather so it's recommended to book a table in advanceIf you can. Staff are friendly and helpful and the service is great. The decor is rustic with contemporary touches, Some good funky artwork on display, its a shame they don't have more of it and swap it around from time to time.

Popped in for lunch this week and was surprised at how busy they were for such a dismal day (weatherwise). The place was buzzing.

Without a doubt the nicest place to stop on Barry Island. Good cake. Worth visiting for brunch. Cappuccino is delicious. Staff and service definitely the best on the Island. So glad to have somewhere decent to stop by after a stroll with family and dog.

We popped in here on a visit to Barry on a cold wet and windy afternoon just after 4 pm when they had officially stopped serving food. Despite this they were happy to still take our food orders (there were 4 of us). Our meals were of very good quality and the cafe had a lovely atmosphere and we all felt this cafe should have a good review.

My gluten free lunch today was plentiful. As the bread alternatives can be a tad dry, it's always better lightly toasted on one side. I took a slice of gf pistachio cake home. Oh my days!!!! Wow. Amazing. Thank you

Beautiful breakfast lunch and afternoon tea

Had a voucher for afternoon tea and if anyone wants to do that again as a present please do.

I went here with a group of friends. The tea was excellent. All cakes home made and a good selection of sandwiches. Everyone in the group enjoyed. . Boxes were provided for us to take the excess cakes home.

Good menu, which accommodated different dietary requirements. Good value for money and pleasant environment. Helpful staff coped very well with a fire alarm (in the block, not in the cafe) and evacuation of the premises.

I have breakfast on a regular basis on Barry island at a different cafe, but thought I would give this place a go for a change, but wasn't impressed and won't go back, I didn't find the place relaxing, or the breakfast that good, just ok

We visited for the first time today. Decided to give this place a go as it looked different from the other cafes. When we got inside we found a table and, although it wasn’t very comfortable for four people, we thought it would be ok.

We had a voucher for 2 people to have a cream tea. We had a lovely pot of tea for 2 and 2 large plates of warm fresh scones, plenty of jam, clotted cream, bara brith, butter and 2 chocolate chip welsh cakes (again warm) Highly recommended, it was delicious!!! We will be back

Went here for breakfast as it opened so were the first customers of the day. Loads of male staff milling around with miserable faces, no welcome or greeting, made me feel a little uncomfortable and intimidated to be honest. Felt like I was being a nuisance when I asked for the menu. We had a breakfast but my husband's plate was missing some items so I meekly approached the counter where someone barked "Have we missed something"? . I quickly let them know before they marched off without a word and came back two minutes later and placed the missing items in a bowl on our table without an apology or any form of verbal communication. The breakfasts were really enjoyable but I wouldn't go back because it felt so unwelcoming and they were actually downright rude.

The best vegan breakfast and iced coffee in the entirety of Wales as far as I'm concerned. Amazing! Dog friendly, competitively priced compared to other establishments serving breakfast on the island and lovely staff.

I love this little cafe! The staff are friendly and fun, the food is fresh and tasty, fantastic after a walk as the dogs can go in with you. Very clean and well kept. I menu to suit all types of diets.
