Cafe Unwind in The Vale of Glamorgan

Brilliant food and fantastic friendly staff.

Cafe Unwind is a not-so-well-hidden gem in Llantwit Major. I've eaten here on a few occasions and the food is always fresh, tasty and served timely. I cannot fault the service at all. If I had to pick at something, it would be the toilet requiring key access but this seems to be the trend in fast food locations these days anyway. A small thing compared to an otherwise fantastic experience. Unwind is by far the best cafe in Llantwit and one of my all time favourites.

An absolute gem with very good food at fair prices.

Delicious breakfast in this beautiful business. The food is delicious, the staff is nice, the place is very well decorated, the service was fast and the atmosphere was great. A quiet and pleasant place to have a drink or eat.

Nice enough place, if lacking a bit of charm. But they scald the milk in your cappuccino rendering it so hot and tasteless that it’s not worth drinking.

A clean, airy cafe that is a bit away from the centre but it has a good menu and pleasant staff.

Visited here for the first time and again it didn't disappoint at all. The food and service were spot on....we even went back the next day and had something else.

Lovely local cafe, and delicious range of food. Nothings ever to much for the staff here and always welcoming and friendly. LOVE there iced lattes too. Recommend to everyone

We love Café Unwind - the selection is excellent for breakfast and lunch. The one downside is it does not allow dogs inside. It does have outside seating but obviously this is also used by smokers so not always the nicest environment. Overall though it's got some great meals on the menu and they're always super flexible if you want adjustments made. The milkshakes are also fabulous, and the coffee is good too.

Went there today, 19th of May. I ordered a jumbo breakfast. It was fabulous, every item was cooked perfectly. Definitely the breakfast in Llantwit by a mile. My only criticism is that the sauces on offer are terrible. Why have a delicious, quality product and ruin it with very poor quality sauces. Well done to whomever cooked it.

Great freshly cooked food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Steak pie and Bacon Burger were excellent.

Avoid this place, rude people and awful attitude to those with disabilities. Confrontational and have no compassion. Rude woman working there had my autistic niece in tears for waiting for her mum outside on their chairs. The manager was also aggressive and intimidating to her mum and police where involved. Avoid this place!

Nice little spot. Busy but the wait wasn't too bad. I'd probably just like better sausages on my brekkie but otherwise it was nice 👍

Took my elderly mother for breakfast to cafe unwind the food was outstanding and they couldn’t do enough for my mother who has health problems The owner even sat down with her and made her so welcoming my mother wants to go every week she said she’s never been treated with such kindness ❤️

TERRIBLE! Rude. Unfriendly. Dirty. Aggressive. Absolutely diabolical experience. I came into the cafe to have lunch and a coffee. I entered and asked at the counter whether I should order first or sit down first and then come up to order. I was told to sit down first. I had some forms with me I needed to fill in to register with a new GP and I had to call my old GP to get some information so I sat down at a table for 2, dialed the GP and began to fill out one of the forms. Within a couple of seconds a 'lady' who appeared to be the owner walked up to my table and asked if I was going to order. I said 'yes, shortly' and asked whether there was a table with a plug socket that I could use as I just needed to complete a telephone call. I was directed to a different table and the lady commented that I wouldn't be able to sit there 'for hours' because it was a table for 4. I said: 'Don't worry I won't be here for hours, I'll probably be here around 30 minutes'. I then continued to fill in the forms and when I had been there for 11 minutes (I knew this because of the call duration on my phone) the lady came back over and said 'I am going to have to ask you to leave because you haven't ordered anything'. I was astonished, especially as the cafe was not full. I explained I was about to order and she said 'you're using our electricity and you have been here for over 20 minutes'. Needless to say I expressed my shock at her attitude and left - will never be back. I am unclear as to why this woman was so rude to me, I can only think that perhaps the fact I am English had something to do with it as I've never had this experience in any cafe before and I was completely polite and courteous the entire time I was there. Also worth mentioning that a few tables in there were left dirty and that this manager was sitting at a table eating herself in between having a go at me. Perhaps her time would have been better served taking orders or cleaning by table service if she is so rushed! It is insane to me that this happened, particularly as I'm a new customer. I eat out at cafes 3 to 4 times a week, often with my two children so the custom they have lost out on is quite substantial, not to mention the fact I'll be letting everyone I know in the area know to avoid them!

Having enjoyed breakfast at this lovely cafe for over a year, since moving to the town, we thought it was about time we wrote a review. We’ve always been made to feel valued, and appreciate our trainee guide dog being admitted. The food is excellent quality (cash only) and service attentive!

Food was average. Chicken in curry very chewy, chips lots of black bits in them. Wouldn't rush back.

Came here for lunch before the long drive home. The food was really good and the staff were really nice and friendly.

Looks like a decent place and it was popular but the flat white wasn't a flat white, it was more like a latte. Flat white's are a double espresso shot and served in a 6oz cup, mine was larger than this which meant it was way too weak. Not a great experience, I was in s hurry and had ordered a take away so didn't have a chance to take it back.

Highly recommend a visit. Farmer’s pantry butcher burger is stunning. The Brie, bacon and cranberry panini is also spot on. Reasonably priced and great service. Room for a few buggy’s too.

Great cafe with a friendly welcome. I particularly like the baked potatoes, in my case with cheese & beans. My Dad liked the chicken tikka baked potatoe and has ordered it several times on different visits. Cakes are good - very nice looking deep filled apple pie! There is plenty of parking nearby. Cafe is cash only, but there is a Lloyds bank cash point a few yards away if needed.

Sausages r just not the same. Was very disappointed with my takeaway today. 4th Jan 2023 😱😭

Popped in at lunch time a few days ago for a coffee and ending up having a panini too. Ham/cheese panini served with a small side salad was to die for. Top quality little cafe / diner will definitely go again. 😊👍🏻

Only drawback is they only take cash but cashpoint next door, food great.

A fantastic breakfast. If you are feeling really hungry I would recommend the Unwind Feast - Its huge! Great friendly service from the staff and lovely tasty food!

Unwind feast - Big,tasty ,hot ,all freshly cooked Vegetarian breakfast -Lovely, fresh, hot Sausage bacon soft roll-Tasty,warm,filling. Sausage egg mushroom sandwich -Tasty,hot,fresh, We had a lovely experience in the cafe, lovely and bright, airy, cool and comfortable, food was absolutely delicious, and all served with a smile and happiness even though behind the mask,would definitely recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Stopped off for a panini and chips with my boyfriend halfway on our cycle ride. It was a lovely lunch, all hot and fresh, with very friendly service. Nice little terrace to sit outside in the sun, with indoor seating opening 3rd aug Covid wise. Would definitely return. Fab customer service too. Lovely friendly blonde lady.

Just moved to the area so decided to go for English breakfast . On first entering the young lady at the counter was very brusk in manner and not at all welcoming. We ordered the full English breakfast which when presented looked lovely, BUT was served on stone cold plates so unfortunately the food was cold immediately. I was going to complain but having being met on arrival with a COLD manner , l realized this would fall on deaf ears. I think the best form of complaint is to not return

We recently moved in the area and been happy to find such a lovely place where they have nice vegan options as well and since we discovered it we try to support them as much as we can because. we also work in the same industry and we know that every little help counts. Me and my partner use cafe unwind every week. It’s our go to place for breakfast, or even lunch. There is a wide choice of food on the menu, and a good choice of cakes if you have a sweet tooth. It has a lovely atmosphere within the cafe and the staff and owners are very friendly, and accommodating to anything you would like. It’s a must go to if your in Llantwit and looking for a bite to eat as a friendly happy atmosphere.

First time eating here. The staff are friendly and helpful. Portions are really generous, and prices are very good. Even though you can't use cards here for payment, there are plenty of places to get money out.

Four of us were visiting this area in Wales and we wanted a nice "local" cafe to enjoy a coffee. We finished enjoying some of their delicious scones, pies and cakes - all home made,., Unpretentious with lovely staff and an excellent comprehensive menu. Stronly recommend when you are in this lovely town.

Cafe Unwind is found on the main shopping street in Llantwit and is a busy coffee shop selling excellent food and drinks. As we live locally, we visit it quite often and have never been disappointed. The quality of food served is very high, the staff are extremely polite and helpful and the ambience is that of a group of friends getting together. Unlike some of the larger franchises, the food is freshly prepared and very tasty. The bacon burger was large and full of flavour, accompanied by really good chips! I must admit to having extra coleslaw (so creamy) and the onion rings were the best I have had for ages. If you have a panini, be prepared as these come in one size - massive. Excellent choices of fillings and a side salad make these an excellent lunch. Drinks are ofa high quality and the milkshakes come in quirky mason jar type glasses which kids love. All in all, this is a lovely local cafe where you can get a darn good meal, served quickly and in pleasant surroundings.
