Great place, we were sent for breakfast from the local inn, and presented with the best breakfast we’d ever been offered! Relaxed and friendly atmosphere, well used by the locals, (always a good sign) dog friendly - a real treat from beginning to end - many thanks

Our first short holiday to Northumberland and we come across Whitfield pantry and shop. A great little local shop for the village with everyone knowing everyone else and there was such a friendly feel to the place. The pantry itself was wonderful, a vast choice and really great friendly staff where nothing is too much trouble with breakfast menu specifying you can mix and match or just order as you like. Breakfast itself was cooked to perfection from the finest of produce anywhere A definite repeat this week for sure

We were Staying on a campsite in Hadrians Wall and was looking for somewhere for a breakfast on Sunday AM and in winter. We found this place on google and thought we would try it out, the best breakfast ever. Good Quality food, butchers style sausage and bacon, fresh eggs with bright yolks and rustic bread and homemade jam and marmalade. The filter coffee was great in a comfortable mug (if youare a fussy drinker you’ll get what I mean). The staff were friendly and great with my 6 year old, as a fussy eater they did exactly what he asked for and it was special for him. We would recommend this cafe and can’t wait to return. And even the midi breakfast is massive!

Sitting at the top left of the menu is "Full English Breakfast" - the description looks innocent enough, so I ordered it. A massive plate of food arrived, all freshly cooked to order, with beans in a separate bowl (yes, a cereal bowl, not just a ramekin lol) and two slices of thick toast on another plate! It was all beautiful, so good that I returned the following day, when I sensibly read the whole menu and settled on the Midi Breakfast instead.Nice homemade cake too.

Popped in after a trip to the lakes with 3 mates. We all had the breakfast - not the full English, but the 'smaller' one. Well, the food was fantastic - proper meaty sausages as opposed to fatty ones, golden yolked eggs and a lovely waitress. What.s not to like? Big pot of tea, plenty of decent sauces- Heinz and HP.Nice seating, not cramped - good loos and a nice garden if you want to sit outside. A real gem. It.s popular with cyclists - so watch out space-wise at peak times.Enjoy ...great.

We stopped off at the Whitfield Village Pantry on Friday afternoon. What a delightful establishment. We ordered a cheese and ham toastie and a fruit scone. The toastie was delicious with a generous filling, a crisp salad, coleslaw and beetroot. The scones were home made and were served with butter and strawberry jam. There was a great choice of tray bakes which all looked home made. The staff were very helpful and efficient offering top ups of tea and coffee. Well worth a visit.

We were due to meet some people and they suggested meeting here for breakfast. What a fantastic idea that was! We both had the midi breakfast (don’t like black pudding) and this was the best breakfast I have had for a very long time. Freshly cooked (so you do have a little wait). It is a small cafe and shop and is really cosy. Breakfast consisted of two sausages, three (I think) rashers of bacon, two hash browns, two tomatoes and eggs and a portion of mushrooms. Will definitely be back. Service very friendly. Scones looked good so will be back for those. Vegetarian breakfast also available.

Exceptional value for money, We should of gone smaller- although we ate it all. This cafe has 3 staff and just 4 tables. Yet from walking in the door to getting food in front of us took 54 minutes. It's not our first poor experience here as on a previous occasion we were served mouldy bread. But we thought we'd give it another try, though after our colossal wait today we won't be giving it a third chance. When we did receive our breakfasts the poached eggs had not been properly drained and the toast was a soggy mess with excess water. We're not sure quite why the service needs to be so slow but it is probably a classic case of people in the hospitality trade not understanding the concept of customer service. If we'd been given truthful information for the delay (rather than being told it would be another 10 minutes which turned out to be 30) then we'd have happily just had our drinks and left. But this lack of honesty and reality is what made the experience so awful. If you're on the A685 and want a good place for speedy service with a smile then try Hartside Top Cafe (on Hartside Top) or Blueberries in Alston.

I was working and driving from Hexham to Penrith on the A686 when i came across this charming little cafe at my break time. I just ordered a standard breakfast which was 7.00. A little more than you would pay in say a transport cafe but this was a more tourist oriented cafe so i thought the price reasonable. The breakfast itself was beautifully cooked. Sausages that seemed to have been made fresh just around the corner Really tasty bacon and eggs that were definately very local and fresh. I left the beans, served in a seperate bowl as were the tomatoes because the plate wasn't big enough only because i was absolutely stuffed and not bacause of the quality of the food. All in all a really nice break with a lovely cook and in stunning scenery on what was my 1st but definately not my last trip on the A686

Having randomly decided to turn off the main road at Hexham whilst travelling from Sunderland and head cross-country for Penrith and the south, finding the Village Pantry was the high spot of my day (and I think it will be the high spot of the month). The welcome could not have been better, the ambience was excellent and the place was spotless without being colourless. Indeed the colours were beautifully chosen. Virtually every local person who came in to use the shop acknowledged me with a smile and a hello and my simple questions about the area (which I had never visited before) were answered courteously and fully. This was a really pleasant place to take a break, enjoy some really nice home-made cakes and some excellent coffee on a long and winding road, a road however that must count as one of the most dramatic and scenic in England. Top marks for hospitality.

What a wonderful place to have a cup of tea! We were visiting the Heritage Centre next door and were taken in by the quirkiness of the idea and decided to have lunch in the carriage. We were greeted by a very friendly and welcoming young man who gave us a few minutes to make our lunch choice. The tea was served in a traditional tea pot in “proper” china tea cups which was just perfect. Our food choices were soup and a cheese scone, ham and cheese sandwich and a sausage and bacon bun, all presented lovely and totally delicious. We were on holiday in the area and wish we live closer as I’d visit all the time. The prices were very reasonable and the service from the staff faultless.
