Whites seafood and steak that’s a big statement and self-explanatory. Having arrived I was shown to my table, the surface of the table was sticky and incorrectly cleaned. The waitress gave me my menu and at first glance excited me with the mixture on offer. The specials board had a variety of foods ranging from seafood to steak.The starter I picked was the calamari with aioli and boy did that disappoint it was so over cooked, it felt weeks old in fact I know what the problem was it’s not freshly made. I have dined in some of the biggest restaurants all over the world and this has to be the worse iv ever had. Having investigated further I removed the bread coating and realised that it was covered in freezer burn. My suspicions was correct this calamari is pre-cooked and then frozen then cooked again to orderSide order was bread with rape seed oil, one piece of bread was that stale it was rock solid, this is when I knew my main dish was going to be poor and yes it was.Main dish Meat feast box was terrible every component was so over cooked and covered in commercially bought barbecue sauce which completely is misleading. All the meat is pre cooked and warmed up and for £19.99 you expect some love and passion but this had nothing. This is a message to the owner of whites you need to do something about this or whites in Battle will have to close its doors. A little love, training and tension to detail is what this restaurant requires. You cannot keep serving food of this poor quality and expect customers to keep returning. I suggest you send someone to dine in here and see how the kitchen prepares and practices.

Visited here as a family of six. The food was great and there was a really varied menu with the addition of daily specials as well. Two of us had the mussels which were delicious, and a great sized portion. Children’s menu was decent enough although my fussy child refused to eat his! The only reason this wasn’t a full five stars for me was because we were squeezed into a table that was too small for six, it was actually for 5 but they added a third chair down one side so three of us sat in a row that should have sat 2. It meant the chairs wouldn’t fit under the table so my 4 yo spent the whole time sliding under the table and I couldn’t get him tucked in. Also it’s fairly expensive and the interior of the restaurant doesn’t reflect this or the menu.

Stopped at whites for an early dinner as it had been recommended to us by friends. We are so glad we did! The food was amazing, great service, staff were very attentive and helpful. We had the chowder for starter which was devine. Then my partner had the sea bass stuffed with cous cous and I had the fish and chips. Both were absolutely beautifully presented and tasted amazing! Thank You for a perfect afternoon we will definitely be back and will be letting everyone know back in London to make sure they visit here!

The best restaurant in let's say in England to eat. Staff very friendly the restaurant is very very clean. The kitchen is very very clean and the chefs are very friendly. Very high recommended to all

We travelled from Cornwall for our friends wedding meal and had never been to Battle let alone White's. Our experience from start to finish was absolutely amazing. Greeted with a smile, handed champagne and shown to our table as soon as we arrived. Drinks served quickly and staff always coming to check everything was ok and if we needed anything.The food was absolutely gorgeous. Our table all had BBQ chicken wings for starters and the portion was extremely generous, the chicken wings were cooked perfectly and the BBQ was amazing and so much there was left over sauce compared to other places I've been to where there's been no where near enough.As there was a 1 year old with us the chef's were brilliant and brought out her main when our starters were brought out, fully thought through and amazing customer service.The steak was cooked to perfection, we ordered 2 medium rares, a medium and a well done for our table and that was exactly what we got. The chef's put their all into making sure everyone had their food how they wanted it. The chips were seasoned and were the best chips I've ever had with no grease in sight.Onto the desert......OMG.....3 on our table had warm chocolate brownie with ice cream and just wow, the brownie was huge and was the best brownie I've ever had. I had a waffle with ice cream, caramel sauce and strawberries.....the waffle filled the whole pasta bowl sized bowl and was absolutely gorgeous, if it wasn't for the fact I was stuffed I'd have been cheeky and asked if they could make me another the ice cream was luxurious, you could taste it was expensive, no scrimping done by White's at all.We are already planning our next trip back to see the newlyweds and will definitely be coming back for another meal.If you are in the area I definitely recommend you visit, you will not be disappointed. Ellie and the whole team go above and beyond, thank you so much guys for an amazing meal.

I was at Whites for a wedding dinner of my best friend and it was absolutely out of this world, the staff couldn't do enough for you, there service was out standing and the food was to die for, I would highly recommend this for any occasion or just for a fantastic meal.

We chose to book lunch for 41 of us at Whites, for after our wedding to celebrate with friends and family. What started out as just a plan to have a meal with our guest soon took off into full on planning with the enthusiastic help of Ellie, Rosie, and the team. The communication throughout the whole process was brilliant and it was obvious that our wedding was important to everyone at Whites, not just us. I cannot explain just how much effort they put into the whole planning process even down to the playlist!Once we had chosen which dishes to offer our guests, Ellie was very keen on ensuring that any dietary requirements were identified to ensure that all efforts could be made to make sure that they were catered for. One of our guests has a gluten free diet and she was overwhelmed that she was so well catered for. In her words - she 'wasn't given the easiest thing and an afterthought'. It was lovely to know that she had a great experience and was taken into consideration. Despite us being a large party, all food arrived piping hot and cooked to perfection, not easy with so many steaks cooked differently, but they did it! The cod and chips went down an absolute treat with everyone too, as did the other meals and courses. Any instructions which people had asked not to have certain elements of their lunch were listened to and attention was paid to absolute detail. Everything was also really fresh and well presented. The portions were generous and just couldn't be faulted at all. In terms of cleanliness, the restaurant has always been spotless on all of our visits. There is hand sanitiser on all of the tables and it just shows how seriously they care for their customers.It is clear that Ellie values her team and they are consulted on a regular basis, their opinions are listened to, in turn resulting in brilliant food and service. They all played a part in arranging our meal and it really did show that everyone works well together. Everyone is also always smiling which just adds to the whole experience.Ellie and the team really did go above and beyond to make the restaurant look the part. We had liaised regarding decorations, but when we arrived, just WOW, they had completely pulled that one out of the bag even adding their own little touches to make it perfectIn terms of service, staff were extremely attentive to our guests, glasses were never empty and everyone felt at ease. All of the younger guests were also well catered for. The brilliant standard really did show as all of our guests (all of which had never dined at Whites previously as many had travelled for our wedding), said how impressed they were with how amazing it all was. It seems they didn't expect so much effort, but why would you? this really was more than your average meal. The whole team at Whites, I feel, completely embraced this task and really put their all into it. I don't believe that a hotel reception would have touched this experience at all, the effort, the teamwork, and damn flipping amazing food completed our special day!It also turns out that Ellie is a dab hand at photography too and helped us capture our special day. The efforts the team will not be forgotten, you made our wedding day truly amazing. We will be back soon for more tasty food, amazing service and a good catch up. Massive thanks, Mr & Mrs Wilson :)

We have just returned from a wedding lunch at Whites. Absolutely first class from the moment we arrived. All the staff were so attentive and helpful and nothing was too much trouble. Our lunch was excellent, beautifully presented and the quality of the meal was perfect. Full marks to all at Whites a really lovely experience

My family visited the restaurant in Battle for the first time this evening. The food was delicious and the waitress who served us was extremely friendly and helpful as my daughter has food allergies. We certainly recommend eating here!

The food quality was fantastic, The service was amazing and the experience of cooking on the stones was great. It really made our anniversary unique and special. Jordan and Lily were fantastic, helpful, professional and most of all delivered everything with a smile. I love this place ❤

We tried to book a table for 7:30 and were told we could only come for the first sitting or a second sitting at 20:00. This is the second time I have tried to book a table here and on the first occasion our booking had been lost and we were sent away and TOLD to come back 1 hour later. So anyway we just went somewhere else. I thought that I was the customer probably going to pay £ 200 for a special meal for 4. I don’t like being treated like a school child and will never even bother trying to book again. I suppose that if everybody turned up at 20:00 that the place would be overwhelmed so what is the point in asking everybody to come at 20:00.

I visited this restaurant on the 15 July 2021. I made the booking via telephone which was accepted for a party of four providing we departed by 7.45pm. We arrived at about 6.15pm. We ordered drinks whilst browsing the menu. I ordered the sea bass with sautéed potatoes and spinach. [The menu stated with couscous, but I enquired if it could be changed and the waitress obliged and said yes]. We were told it would take a while for our food as it was all freshly cooked. We accepted this. Our food eventually arrived following approximately 45 minutes. My sea bass was blackened and came in its entirety with its head on. Clearly it was over cooked as the fish meat was stuck around the edges and dry. As for the spinach, none. The waitress never returned to say what vegetables were available if the spinach was not. The fish was smothered in sliced courgettes, aubergine, red peppers and what appeared. These had been seared on a griddle as one could see from the black markings. However, what the chef did with it after left a great deal to be desired. They had been immerse or smothered in an oil which was clearly 'swimmingly' abundant upon the plate making the vegetables tasteless, greasy/oily and basically inedible. The same went for the saute potatoes. In my experience with sauté potatoes are normally crispy to a point. Well these appeared to be half sliced new potatoes and again smothered in an oil that was unpleasant to see and made the food tasteless inedible. Placing everything away around the sides of my plate, to gain access to the fish, and avoid the oily mess, I found some edible parts of the fish meat. It was then that the waitress returned and enquired if everything was satisfactory. With my other party members well into their meals, I said that I was not satisfied with mine and explained in not so many words but covering the oily tasteless mess. She offered to provide another meal. Being conscious of the time we had left to eat, and the time to prepare and cook another meal, it would arrive well after my party had finished their food as well as the time we had to leave the restaurant. I therefore turned the offer another meal down. I requested the bill. When it came, there was no compensation offered for the appalling standard of meal that I was served. I questioned this and was told that I refused the offer of another meal. I gave my reason why but this fell upon deaf ears. I felt belittled by having to argue with staff in a restaurant full of people. I considered that a small gesture of £10 off or free drinks would not have gone amiss for customer service. The attitude clearly was not customer orientated or towards the customer's satisfaction. I have dined in many top restaurants around this world to great satisfaction even when there has been a hic-up. But stubborn customer service is not an acceptable standard in my opinion.

We had a very good evening meal at Whites one evening last week. Very friendly and polite staff, and our meals were all very good.Would say that I prefer the vibe and at atmosphere at the Hastings Whites restaurant.

We all enjoyed a lovely meal last week. The food was delicious and the service was great. We will definitely go back again when we are next in the area.

The worst place I have ever been. The food was shockingly bad, the chicken looked uncooked.The manageress was vile and wasn’t helpful at all. The restaurant was very warm and when we asked about putting the air-con on she refused and said they was not allowed due to covid! Chocolate brownie was banging tho.

Our first time here, usually go to Hastings. Menu would really benefit from gluten free indicators. Suffers same malady as Hastings boring GF puds only fancy coffee ice cream, lemon posset and that old reliable Eaton mess. Number of small 2 seater tables in middle of dining area with gangways behind you for foot traffic, as you would expect, could be off putting while your eating so suggest you ask for table against wall of this would mar your experience. I asked to swop for an empty table against wall and I was bluntly and tactlessly told by the Manageress that table could not be changed she couldn’t make exceptions for us. You get the table that’s assigned - persistence paid off and we were “allowed” to swop to the empty table as long as we were gone by 7.45. So beware tables are booked in time slots so bear this in mind when booking your dining time could be finite. Thoroughly put out I was prepared to dislike the food ..... sorry ..... I could not find much to be negative about without nit picking ... so here goes. We shared prawns cooked in shell absolutely delicious best shelled prawns I’ve had in long time but.. being critical the accompanying lump of salad was tasty but very wet. We both had moules mine mariner the better half had mixed seafood moules. The juice was exceptional it had that unctuous almost mushroom soup flavour that you rarely find, the mussels were juicy and plump and I could have eaten them twice over. The mixed seafood moules were very good, clams, razor clams etc., was very well cooked but... think the addition of the whelk should be reconsidered not quite cooked and the internal tube was very unappetising - not chef’s fault. The fries were acceptable but titchy portion. The use of samphire across the dishes lifted them and was delicious. Prosecco might not be to everyone’s taste bit dry and alka seltzer for us, but the Zindanfel was super good. The specials board had an outstanding variety and wished I had eaten one of those dishes. The table service was good the two young men were very attentive. Wasn’t going to leave a tip because I was still simmering from my perceived rough handling but did because the food very good and the actual table service was also good. Shame really as we regularly eat out and would have gladly added this to our list.

Excellent staff, good atmosphere, spotlessly clean and lovely food - what's not to like. We ate off the Lunchtime Special menu and it was very good value for excellent food.

Visited on 16 June. We had a great meal and Great service. Very clean and covid safe. We would happily go back. Free parking available behind the high street after 7pm.

Another fantastic meal.Love this place….Hastings Whites is nice but this one has won my heart! When we have a day where we have time to lunch, this lovely restaurant is my first choice! Excellent service and food. The lunch menu is excellent value.I had my usual mussels which were yummy.Lovely bottle of wine to compliment the meal.See you again very soon.

Arrived at 6.35 for our 6.30 booking and we had been told in advance we had the table for 2 hours and reminded again when we were seated. Our drinks order was at 6.45. Thereafter food order not taken until 6.50. Starters didn’t arrive until 7.20. Main courses arrived at 7.50 and 8.15 we were presented with the bill and asked to leave. On questioning this with management we were confronted with a hostile response and we were blamed for being late. She insisted it was a 6.15 booking. This was refuted by the entire table who all agreed we had been advised it was 6.30, in any the event the service had been extremely slow. I eat in many restaurants with a 2 hour hour turn around. But to compensate they offer extremely quick and efficient service. Unfortunately the service failed, not only in terms of time but also the food and drinks orders were incomplete and wrong. The waiter forgot to take all main course orders and drinks were forgotten. Further drinks were ordered with the main but not served, and by the time they realised the error they refused to serve more due to time constraints. The food was not up to the same usual standard, the service was poor and the rude response from management was simply to repeat over and over that we were late rather than acknowledging their exceptionally slow service.

We have been to White's in the Old Town, Hastings , so wanted to try their restaurant in Battle, and it didn't disappoint. Fantastic Anniversary meal . We loved the food and service, will see you again soon.

We came across this place after leaving Battle Abbey - plenty of spaced out seating and remarkably busy for a lunchtime. The mussels were delicious and well served. Recommend this place, we got lucky and got a table before the rush!

Got a late booking at 8:30 for me and the wife. Already seen he menu on line. We shared whitebait as a starter, wife had sea bass and I had wagyu beef steak, glass of Merlot and soft drink for the wife, lemon posset and coffee to finish, £80. Worth every penny, staff were young and very efficient, atmosphere was great with plenty of room between tables. The food was exceptional. We will definitely go again when we’re in the area. Highly recommended

Last September I tried to eat in their restaurant in Hastings i was unsuccessful however today 26th May as I was in Battle I popped into their stunning restaurant on the High Street. No problem here for a solo diner pick any free table lots of smiles the two staff were lovely . I had haddock and chips which just melted as I ate it then lemon posset they kindly swapped the raspberries for strawberries as I don't like raspberries again no issues . Lovely wine too ! Totally recommend

We had a lovely lunch at Whites last Saturday. We are quite a fussy bunch yet everyone enjoyed their meals. My chicken was lovely & my son particularly enjoyed the prawns. My daughter also said that the mussels were the best she had ever had. It was so lovely to eat inside as well. The service was also great & also the communication when I was booking the table was really good. All in all it was a lovely meal & we will definitely be back.

5* absolutely amazing food and staff. We visited Battle the previous day but was too early for food but had picked out what we would have had if we were eating! So we decided to come back today after visiting Eastbourne! We were not disappointed. We had the chicken wings to start, hubby went for the Lamb Shank and I went for the chicken skewers highly highly recommended. Great portion size and the food was top class - amazing! Topped off with the waffle with salted caramel, strawberries and vanilla ice cream for pudding. You will not be disappointed you have to go there - fantastic service, fantastic food, fantastic staff and chef!

Came to Whites for a birthday dinner with my girlfriend and was blown away. Delicious oysters, amazing lamb and a fillet steak followed by the best cheesecake I’ve had in along time. The service was prompt and polite and they were more than able to accommodate our requests. I would highly recommend for dinner.

Stumbled in on a very wet and cold day. We were near the end of the lunch service, so thankfully there was a table. Some ordered off the set menu, others off the normal menu. All the food was really impressive, especially the one pot seafood 'stew-type-thing'. It was packed with tomatoes and chorizo - really recommend.Possibly a touch expensive. But, you are in a fairly touristy town. Would highly recommend and revisit.

Went to Whites (Battle) yesterday, only the second time this year we have been out for a meal so it had to be worthwhile. We were not disap[ppoointed, Having been to their Hastings Restaurant we hoped it would be good, but its perhaps even better.The food is consistently good, great seafood, of course, tried the steak on the volcanic stone too, a lovely way to serve steak, never miss the mussel chowder, of course, good selection of wines at reasonable prices.Really lovely helpful staff- super fitted out old chapel building, felt very safe too as every possible precaution taken.

We were very impressed with this restaurant when we had lunch there last Saturday. All three of us ordered the cod and chips and it was cooked to perfection; the fish was moist on the inside and crispy on the outside and I can safely say that it was the best fish and chips we have had in a long time. The atmosphere was friendly and relaxed and the staff were attentive and helpful. A perfect way to spend a Saturday lunchtime and we highly recommend this charming restaurant. You must go!

We ate at Whites in Battle last night, what a fantastic experience, I had hot rock rump steak and my wife had fish pie. The service was great and so were the staff, the new young girl Ella was a delight and we are sure it if she didn't have a mask on,she would serve you with a big smile on her face and is going to be an asset to your business, the only sad thing is we live in Brighton, otherwise we would be there most weekends. Faultless, & Friendly and words I would use, the 5 star reviews were spot on, the muscles in white wine was flavour some, and my Rib eye steak cooked and seasoned to perfection. Even during the COVID pandemic, they were very cautious and adhered to the guidelines giving me added peace of mind.. I would personally like to thank the chef and the waiting staff, that made my day special. I was suppose to stay 5 days in Battle but only ended up staying 1 as my Mother was rushed to hospital with a stroke so I had to rush back to London. Thank you for making my 156 mile round trip drive worth every minute, and the added birthday treat given to me to take away to eat later was a special touch...

Lovely food, attentive staff. Nice restaurant but we picked the wrong night as there was a very noisy table right near us, they were just having a great time not offensive at all but it spoiled it for us however if visiting again would go back.

We stumbled across this restaurant after a visit to Battle whilst staying in Hastings (the only reason we chose the Battle restaurant over Hastings as Hastings was closed that day, no other reason but we knew the Battle restaurant looked lovely!) So we booked a table over the phone for that evening (a Wednesday) all covid rules and safety measures were explained clearly on the phone and we felt safe throughout our entire meal. There was a loud group of males who were also dining (they were just out to have a good time) and the waitress offered us a quieter table without us having to ask. No issues with the service at all and the food was delicious! If we lived closer we would definitely be returning! Very varied menu and some great twists on some classics! A lovely specials menu too!

We visited today with friends and were not disappointed. Wonderful ambience, with welcoming and attentive staff. The menu was varied and reasonably priced. The cod and crab smokie special was delicious as were the mussels. Look forward to returning and trying other dishes on the menu.

We booked Whites well in advance to avoid disappointment, as it is a very popular please to eat and also not open everyday.Once inside we felt safe and it was very clean.Our dog was welcome and there was plenty of room around the tables for him to settle.There was a wide choice of food and wines on the menu.The food was just divine, it tasted as good as it looked.This place is highly recommended if you like steak and seafood !

We have unfortunately just had one of the worst meals we have ever had at Whites bar. We booked in advance but were squeezed in at 5pm with an hour and 45 mins for the table which was fine for us as we would be visiting with children we are always keen to be in and out efficiently. However when we arrived the staff, especially the owner/ manager seemed very flustered and stressed after a very busy lunch service. It didn’t make for a relaxing atmosphere and we could feel ourselves getting stressed on their behalves. Unfortunately it all really started badly when we received our food before our drinks! The starters were big of a disaster we ordered the mussels and the garlic/ chilli prawns. Both of which came with a variety of extra garnishes which really did not need to be there. It nice to have a little salad garnish on the side but this was all over the dish and really did spoil the dishes. The prawns were clearly frozen with no sauce in sight and mussels were overcooked and pappy. The children’s chicken strips were coated in a southern fry coating with lots of pepper making them too hot for the children to eat. I ordered a crab Thermidor (basically a baked crab) with a side salad again this was very over complicated with cold seafood on top (not my thing) and huge pieces of peppers. my husband ordered the mix grill unfortunately he didn’t find this a pleasurable eating experience ribs were tough and with no sauce as it had dried out, bratwurst sausage wasn’t coloured on the outside so look very unappealing. All in all we were very disappointed and couldn’t wait to leave. We spoke to the manager/ owner and she took the mix grill off the bill and offered to cook him something else which he didn’t want as he didn’t fancy anything else by that time. We love good food and are happy to pay a price for it. It’s such a shame. Maybe they should close for a few hours between services to have a break, get cleared and organised for the next service.

What a lovely restaurant. Staff very friendly and attentive. Decor was fab. Food was really good, had the pork belly which was cooked to perfection. Toilets were very clean, obviously they have good attention to detail. Waitresses were very friendly, cannot fault this place. Prices for the lunch menu were good, I would come here regularly if I lived closer.

We really enjoyed the fish on offer here and the portions were more than ample. I really enjoyed the crab pate I had as a starter, but everyone enjoyed their choices of starters and mains. The decor in old chapel is interesting and there is plenty of room. The service was friendly and attentive.

Table for four on a Thursday lunchtime - very glad we booked! No starters, we just went for the seafood platter. A very good mix and plenty of it. The house white wine was very dry but went well with the seafood and the bottle of Prosecco was an excellent choice! Service good, friendly staff and ‘covid aware’, with disposable menus and plenty of hand sanitiser. Speed of service suited us - we were out for a leisurely lunch - and there was no hint of the staff wanting to move us on. We’ll definitely be back!

Initial impression wasn't good lot's of unhappy faces, Told gleefully by the waitress that I wouldn't be able to have their hot rock speciality steaks because we were sat in the wrong area of the restaurant??? Starters were fine if under seasoned but the mains came over cooked thermidor crab with raw prawns, they were still grey! But the waitress kept on trying to assure us they were just cold! I been eating seafood for the past forty years and can tell when something is raw! Over priced, poorly staffed and no sign of a manager, save yourselves the bother...

Felt like a really luxurious lunch. Every dish looked fab and the staff were very attentive. Food was lovely, but definitely not a quick bite!

I have always wanted to go and dine at White’s, sadly for one reason or other we never did. I always thought they would be enormously expensive and although the photos on their website looks great - I did not think the food would be up to much. The the Chancellor brought in “Eat out to help out” and I grabbed the chance.Getting a table during the “EOtHO” was very difficult but I secured a table and when the day came duly mae our way to Battle. My love of seafood and steak - being South African and a huge red meat eater - I ordered a starter of prawns and a main of Ribeye. For me, meat has to be dead when it reaches my plate - I cannot handle bloody juices on my plate! That means I have not had a good steak EVER! Oh WOW - the only way to describe the Ribeye I was given - ordered medium to well but rather on the well side - it was without a doubt the best steak I ever had .....and as a meat eater I have had a grea many steaks in my life! This one was superb!My recommendation for White’s in Battle is : the staff are all happy girls who cannot do enough for you, the food rated EXCELLENT and the ambience warm and welcoming! Give them a try - I promise it will be worth it!!

Visited last night for some food and drinks with friends. The food was really nice and they catered to my dietary requirements and it was all really affordable too! The staff were very accommodating especially Rosie and the girl with blonde hair that served us our drinks too (sorry we didn’t catch her name!). If you go make sure to take cash for a tip as we weren’t able to tip as much as we would have liked to!

Just ok. Lamb shank was not the tasty red wine, port sauce/gravy as described on menu. Can guarantee it was gravy granules as it was Cold and gloopy so thick the way granules go. Chests!! Meat ok quite nice but no taste. Easily rectified..... try seasoning and a bit of stock when you cook. The veg and the cold cannon was delicious if not a little cold no problem for me though. Staff bit stressed and busy and it showed, they tell you how busy they are too, but restaurant not rammed we had a short wait during lunchtime on a Friday afternoon. Have to pay before you eat. Staff overly concerned about the this...bit embarrassing. Goats cheese pastry starter ok, lacking on the cheese, nothing special. White bait ok and kids meat balls pasta ok. Filled a gap overall. Easy for whites to up their game and make this really tasty delicious. Come on whites... Make an effort. This is so More for tourists/one offs than regular/locals place. Try saint Leonard’s for best eats.

Whilst writing a 5-star review of a great restaurant, you've gotta ask yourself, where do I begin? I don't believe you can express how great the experience was over a Tripadvisor review, the difference is night and day compared to other restaurants it's unreal. There is one problem and that's the popularity of the establishment, so many people love the dining experience to the point that it's booked for the whole of August. Everything from the food, the price, the atmosphere, the whole experience was one I would personally recommend to others and I'll definitely be booking a restaurant for the first week of September.Jack

We were sat on a table right next to the door, despite booking ahead and the restaurant being half empty when we arrived. When we asked if we could sit somewhere else we were told we could not as they were reserved for other customers. The place did then fill up over the next hour - right past our table every time. I don’t understand why they don’t seat people from the back first to avoid this. There were a couple of young waitresses who were very friendly and polite but weren’t particularly attentive. The food was pretty average - not much fish in the fish stew, which was more like ratatouille. We gave feedback to the waitress when she asked how the food was and she just said “sorry”. It didn’t seem like the restaurant really cared if we enjoyed our food or not. Overall it was an ok meal, I just expected more given the good reviews.

We wanted a seafood/fish dinner so weve been wanting to try the Battle location as Hastings was always lovely. We were greeted by very friendly staff, hand sanitiser and the restaurant was cool - much needed! Food was lovely, service was very good too. Our only 'criticism' is our starter of monkfish goujons at £8.50 and crab pate at £8.00 - we did expect more than two and a half goujons and 2 small pieces of bread for that pricetag but they were delicious! Will definately go back to both restaurants for our fishy fix.

Went to eat there and the steaks were awful. Mentioned this to the woman server and she was rude to the point where I will not be back again. Do not go there !!!!

So we order 3 wagyu steaks. 2 medium rare one rare. All 3 come out rare. 2 are awful. No one visits the table during the meal only when delivered at the beginning! Then when we do complain the manager on duty tells me that a ribeye is meant to look like the roadkill I have been served! Took 20 minutes after we finish eating for one of the 3 staff serving 7 tables to visit and remove said meat.

Visited whites last Wednesday 5th Aug! First time visiting the battle restaurant, and wasn’t disappointed I’m a big fan of the old town one! Ellie took her time to chat with us after we eaten.Will 100% be back thank you very much. Food was lovely.

My fussy son was persuaded to try Whites a few weeks ago and we have now returned twice! food is very well made and although it is at the higher end of pricing for a lunch it is well worth it. it is clear that a great deal of Care and attention had been made to the design of the restaurant and the menu. the staff are polite and the owner clearly runs a tightly organised ship whilst remaining very friendly.Although busy the covid safety measures were very reassuring I enjoyed my Mussels and the other orders of steak were delicious. We are rturning this evening to take advantage of the Sunak deal for an evening outing

This restaurant definitely made up for the disappointment of our hotel! Housed in a charming little chapel and full of quirky touches, the restaurant delighted us from start to finish. We were served by Ellie who was really friendly and efficient but all of the staff were lovely. It was lovely to see it busy and thriving in these difficult times and wish this restaurant and it's partner one in Hastings all the best. All of the food was divine especially my crab Thermidor.

Rosie and her team made us feel very welcome as soon as we arrived. We chose oysters to start and mussels for main and both courses were excellent. The whole experience was a joy. It’s a great venue for either lunch or dinner.

Stopped of here for quick bite to eat before starting work, myself and partner was the only ones in the restaurant but it was at 5 o'clock and expect it would have got busy after, the place is spotless and covid safe, my partner had the steak and I had the hallumi burger just wow tasted absolutely amazing the sweet potato fries that came with burger tasted absolutely lovely and bf said best steak ever had reasonable prices really lovely staff will definitely be a new regular of ours and highly recommend trying this place out thanks for great meal and service

My friend and I were visiting the Abbey, so we were not from the area or familiar with local restaurants. We found this place on Google and we tried to book a table to find they were not open but we could leave a voicemail to request a table. We were impressed to find someone called us back out of hours to confirm the booking!The scale of choices on the menu was really quite overwhelming! There were so many good options it really was quite hard to choose what to have. The food arrived really promptly and the servers were all exceptionally friendly and smiley.The food was just SO GOOD. I can't put into words how tasty it was. Possibly the best seafood I have ever had? I will strongly recommend this venue to any friends who visit the Abbey for a day out, and if we come back to the area we will most certainly be making a reservation to dine there again!

Really warm welcome and excellent service from the team when my friend and I visited on Friday at lunchtime. We brought with us our babies aged 3 and 9 months and the team went above and beyond to cater for us and the babies and make sure that we had everything we needed. Excellent food, we would highly recommend.

My partner and I visited on Friday evening. The dining room was lovely. Nicely lit and relaxing. Rosie and the other girls who staff the place are attentive and smiling. The food of lamb shank for himself and Huss for me was very tasty and well presented. It was my first time for a Huss fish great too.

This place is a real Gem! Food was totally amazing fish platter was incredible value and is plenty for two people, so fresh all served on ice oysters were so fresh, and the mussels were some of the best we have had. Staff are very attentive to your needs i felt our waitress was new to the job and understandble as the had only just reopened after look down, but I felt she was attentive and helpful at all times, will be revisting this fabulous restaurant very soon and its just lovely to find a restaurant that has a passion for its menu. Our compliments to the chef.

3 of us ate here for an impromptu dinner 6.30pm on a Thurs night. We had been working hard all day, hadn’t dressed up & Everything was exemplary. The staff were friendly & welcoming, talked through the safety measures due to Covid & the menu & specials board. The food was stunningly tasty, well presented & great value. The Wagu steak deserves a special mention. So good! We had starters and sweets & ordered off menu , never felt hurried even though they were very busy. All tables had sanitizer on & sanitizer as you came through the door & all cutlery was in paper pouches which we thought was a great idea. All tables well spaced.We have eaten here pre Covid and will definitely be regulars from now on. Thank you for a wonderful evening

We visited on Wednesday 15th July. We moved to Battle at the start of lockdown, so it was our first meal out in the town. The staff and owner were lovely, I got to choose from a range of lovely gins, and orders were taken quickly, but with no pressure. We had whitebait, then pork belly and the burger, both absolutely delicious. I had the pork belly and it was absolutely beautiful. We then had puddings:the amaretto pancake and the chocolate fudge cake. It was all delicious, freshly made, served quickly and it all felt so welcoming and relaxing. There was hand sanitiser available everywhere and the staff were using it regularly. The menus were also throwaway, so we could take them away, but it meant no transfer of germs and the tables were spaced well! We also got a reward card each! Only 9 visits to go for a free pudding! It must be really hard to get back into the swing of things after being closed for 4 months and then returning to work with new rules and restrictions! Thank you Ellie and team.

Excellent meal. Good safety measures in place for a Covid safe meal.Good service, attentive staff.There was a very rude couple on an adjacent table who complained relentlessly and unrealistically. The owner dealt with them calmly and professional.The menu quite clearly states some main meals make take 20 minutes to arrive, not an unrealistic time frame, let alone in a covid world.

The food was excellent, however the service was extremely poor. The waitress couldn't get an easy order correct. We were told by the very rude manageress who showed no social distancing what so ever that the staff were new. If that is the case they should receive training and learn the menu and not make assumptions on what the customer has requested. The main course took a very long time to come out though the restaurant was not busy, and some of the meals seemed to be sent to the wrong tables. More staff training is definetly needed and the manageress needs to be better at dealing with customers who are not happy. I did start off by being friendly however she soon changed the situation. Covid 19 cannot be blamed for everything.

First meal out since lockdown, and was the last one before! Well worth the wait! Perfect steak! Such a lovely evening!

Went for dinner, first time out since covid19 lockdown started, food was amazing as per usual whites is our favourite place!! My only concern was steps that have (or have not been) taken due to covid, although there was hand sanitizer as you walk in and on the tables that seemed to be the only thing that's been done... no masks or anything and waitresses were leaning right over us and standing very close and the tables didnt seem to be spaced out at all.. we had another table of people seated right next to us.. I just thought more would have been done before opening to protect customers and staff. Regardless of this it is still a great resturant and great food.

Having been to the Whites Seafood and Steak Bar in Hastings, which when we last went never to return, was terrible...it was with much trepidation that we went over to Battle on the invite of friends who live there.I had heard from friends in Hastings who had been to the Battle branch that indeed it was somewhat better than the Hastings one, so thought it's worth a try.The young staff were very welcoming and attentive, ready to anser questions relating to the menu and the specials board. My wife ordered the lamb cutlets and I the Sea Bass with spicy rice and roasted veg.It was a wonderful combination served up with two decent sized Sea bass fillets. Unfortunately my wife, having sampled the very rare lamb cutlets, asked to swap...nothing wrong but just a bit too pink for her liking.I took her dish and reluctantly passed my wonderful Sea bass, but the lamb was good too.The price of the wines also pleased! Cheaper than some of my normal haunts in Hastings, and not 'plonk' either.We will certainly return - it was a superb meal, great atmosphere with delightful staff deserving a good tip!

I went here with my sister and her fella for lunch. It was really busy and the staff did a great job to accommodate us and understanding regarding lateness of number 3, requiring staggered ordering. Food was great, drinks were wet and cold and the bill was very reasonable. Definitely recommended

Lovely here, food is beautifully cooked and lots of sumptuous options. Service is good and lots of choice of nice wines. Big public carpark at rear. Wasn’t very busy midweek, but I imagine you need to book at weekends.

We visited Whites on a Wednesday evening with our 6 month old daughter. The staff were extremely friendly and attentive and the food was delicious and well presented. We shared the fish platter which we thought was excellent value for money. The restaurant is relaxed, clean and has a lovely atmosphere. Despite living over an hour away we plan to visit again as we enjoyed our evening and meal so much!

Visited Whites for birthday treat, 7 of us in all. Wonderful menus choice of dishes to chose from plus specials. Table was ready at desired time , staff friendly and efficient. Everybody on table was pleased with their chosen dish/ dishes.Ample portions, presented nicely and we felt reasonable cost for what we ate. Absolutely yummy! Geat atmosphere as well. Definitely recommend and we will definitely be going in the not to distant future.

Last minute booking valentines meal. Lovely setting great staff and food amazing and reasonably priced (highly recommend hullumi burger) my partner said the steak was great too. Only slight negative is we thought the drinks was a little over priced but would go again and definitely recommend visit

Our first visit to Whites shortly after it opened was disappointing with fish overcooked and some menu items missing. We tried again recently as we like to support local businesses and were glad we had done so, Both our starters and main meals were very tasty, staff friendly and atmosphere good. Happy to recommend and will be back.

Had an amazing meal, had heard lots of good review thought it was about time to go and check out for myself. I was not disappointed Absolutely delicious food and great friendly service. The sirloin steak cooked to your own liking in the lava rock was amazing, so good it could have easily been a fillet steak!

Bit of a mixed bag here on what was a very busy lunch time service. The house white was nicely chilled and a good introduction to some excellent starters. We kicked off with the oysters and squid which was top drawer. Some minor issues with one of the mains, (we went for scampi and the sole), which was quickly picked up by the excellent manager and adjustments made. Service was attentive and organised so all in all a good start to the New Year. Will be considering returning to try some of the wider menu at this clearly popular venue.

We went there in November for Dad's birthday and then again on Christmas Day, both times were fantastic delicious food, the extensive menu helps the whole family have what they want. My dad now won't go anywhere else! Lighting and decor spot on and good atmosphere without being noisy.Ellie and her staff are all so helpful and friendly, we will be back soon!

This restaurant as a whole is quite simple excellent, they obviously pride themselves upon top notch produce AND service. I couldn’t not recommend this establishment anymore than I do so.

The best Christmas lunch I’ve ever had in a restaurant. Amazingly generous portions, attentive staff, lovely ambience. What more could you ask for. Left completely stuffed, with a doggy bag and some mince pies for later. Will definitely book for next year. Thank you to all the staff at whites. I will never cook Christmas lunch again. The doggies loved the doggy bag too.

Great food, excellent service. We were a table of 6 colleagues and pre-ordered. Our meals came out with our names which saved the usual "what did I order?" mess that we normally suffer! Waitresses were helpful and chatty.

What a lovely lunch off the specials board, steak pie with chips with much needed gravy on the side. Hot chocolate sponge cake and ice cream. Good service with friendly staff.

This is my restaurant of choice for celebrations, evenings with friends or just a quick lunch. Fantastic food, great atmosphere and friendly staff.
