After a summer recess White's is again open. Once more the menu (Experience Menu) is a deliciously delightful surprise. The amusee-ing starters are a kaleidoscope of fabulously filled croquettes, mousse that wants to float away, salad dressings that supplement, brown shrimps, lamb, beef, chicken - what is not to like? The later courses are simply superb. Having enjoyed a decade worths of scallops at Whites, I try not to eat scallops anywhere else. The chef, John Robinson, sources sumptuous products and treats them with care, skill, experience and passion, consistently setting a remarkable standard that never falters. The charming waitress was attentive and cheerful throughout, which only helps further. Six stars? Still not enough.

My wife and I dined at Whites as a special birthday treat. This restaurant serves very special food, so not something we would be able to do regularly but is worth every penny for a special occasion. We had the 9 course tasting menu and every course was exquisite. One of the courses was a ‘parsnip tagliatelle’ and my wife doesn’t even like parsnips but she loved this. I would recommend doing the wine-matching option, which pairs each course with a fine wine to really bring out the best of the flavours. If you are visiting this restaurant you should plan for this to be the main part of your evening. Every course is prepared freshly by the chef, and 9 courses does take longer than a regular format restaurant. That said, the service didn’t feel slow as we were really enjoying the experience. After the meal the chef greeted us and was very happy to stop and chat with us. We were made to feel very special. We are very lucky to have this quality of restaurant in Beverley. I think we’ve eaten in just about all of them now, and this is by far the best if you want fine dining. We couldn’t go every week, but great for special occasions if you are a ‘foodie’.

Delightful quality little restaurant. Very talented chef and small team. The 9 course taster menu was wonderful combination of many different types and style of dishes, combination of flavours and textures. All dishes are extremely well presented, both on the plate, and to table by staff. The only reason this isn't a 5 star review is the service times. For me, 3 hours is a little too relaxed.

The food is (mostly) very good but be presided for it to be exceptionally slow. 3.5 hours is pretty ridiculous for a 9 course menu.

I ate at three Michelin recommended restaurants in Beverley, and Whites was clearly the best. Just outside the North Bar, it is a small restaurant with only a handful of well-spaced tables and a calm feel to it. That is helped by the soft jazz music which puts you in a relaxed mood right away. I liked it so much that I wanted to buy the albums but was told that this was just a compilation that the chef himself had put together. Whites has an imaginative 9-course tasting menu, but before the first course even appeared, I was brought four delicious little canapés, including a venison tartlet with 30-month-old parmesan. The tasting menu then proceeded to impress with such delights as East Coast lobster, Lincolnshire smoked eel, new season partridge, and Yorkshire lamb rump. I would also recommend the 9 matching wines—they came from many countries around the globe, including New Zealand and Chile, as well as the more familiar Spain, Portugal, and California, and were paired nicely with each dish. The service was impeccable, and both the waitress and the waiter were not only knowledgeable about the food and wines, but happy to linger to answer any questions in more depth. And the young waiter, Sam, had a smile for everyone that could melt ice. As I left, I appreciated the fact that the chef came out to exchange a few friendly words with me. My evening at Whites was one of the real highlights of my stay in Beverley. You could not be disappointed with a dinner at Whites, but given the modest number of tables, you should definitely book in advance. They richly deserve their commendation by Michelin.

Our 9 course tasting menu was wonderfully served and paced, lasting 3 hours, not rushed. The plates kept flowing to us, served in a variety of beautiful dishes to complement the food. One of my favorites was the smoked eel with horseradish mousse, pickled cucumber, and sea purslane. Then again, the Yorkshire lamb rump with mint and pumpkin seed pesto, lamb shank croquette, black garlic was exquisite. The most tender lamb imaginable beyond any meat I have experienced. It was hard to resist not filling up on the delicious crusty muffin shaped bread and butter. One of the 3 of us is a fine cook herself, and her mental wheels were spinning as she described her inspired plans to incorporate some of these ideas into her future creations. The menu is fixed. The owner/chef John Robinson is an artist and worked in the kitchen by himself with two servers in such a relaxing peaceful environment, four other tables aside from us. At the end, we asked if we could take the paper menu as a souvenir and the chef autographed it and came out to chat as we left. During our stay in Beverley, we certainly enjoyed our fish and chips, falafel, and home made meals at our Airbnb. White’s was my highlight, a special night out for a treat. I have returned home now and am far away in Massachusetts USA. If I ever return to Beverley, a reservation at White’s will be first on my list.

We ate at Whites on 31st May and chose the 4 course tasting menu. It has only occasionally happened to us, that the canapés are so delicious that we’re tempted to ask for a couple more servings of those, and cancel the 4 courses. They were that good, the highlights being the black pudding and the spider crab. We found the decor and the ambience absolutely perfect, simple, understated yet classy. A few weeks ago we did our once-in-a-lifetime trip to Le Manoir and we both agreed that when it comes solely to plated food, John Robinson’s dishes were easily ‘up there’ with those. For me, the asparagus mousse was divine, like nothing I’ve tasted before. All in all, a really enjoyable evening and very good value for money. Thank you chef!

We only recently heard about this restaurant & as non vegetarian, non vegan, without allergies & intolerances food wise we felt able to book. The dining room is small, comfortable & smart and service was very efficient & friendly. We opted for the 9 course tasting menu & we weren’t disappointed. Highlights were the asparagus mousse- so smooth with intense flavour, the wild garlic veloute & the melting smoked cheddar, the tete du moine with truffled honey-great demonstration of how 2 ingredients can make a yummy dish. Great food, enjoyable experience ( apart from a fellow diner who was loud, opinionated, an expert in everything and a pompous bore) Good value for money at £75 for the 9 courses plus 4 canapés, we will return

We were bought vouchers for Whites for Christmas and were looking forward to our visit. We love tasting menus and when we travel we look for really good restaurants. We found Whites to be average overall. The canapés were great, but after that we were disappointed with the flavours, the pork dish definitely needed a jus with it just to add further depth.

We had the 4 course tasting menu (available Wednesdays and Thursdays) which was wonderful. We started with 3 complementary canapés along with a home made loaf of bread - all delicious. This was followed by a soup, fish course, meat course and dessert all of which contained some lovely tastes. The service was excellent. We asked the chef to suggest which wine would be best with our menu and he went for a very reasonable white. When we booked we were asked about any allergies and dislikes and these were followed to the letter. It’s quite small and the atmosphere is friendly if somewhat quiet. A really lovely couple of hours.

My husband took me to Whites for our anniversary! We had the 9 course taster menu and it was fantastic! I tried so many different foods that I've heard about on masterchef but hadn't had chance to eat them before. The food was truly amazing! As we were leaving the chef spoke to us about the meal, I got to ask him different questions that had me wondering, like how did he get the cauliflower puree to be so smooth and silky, the chef was very happy to answer my questions. The extra steps to provide safety due to covid were fantastic.

Whites is back! The good news is not just the food. The restaurant has undergone a refurbishment, not only is it stylish and comfortable but thoughtful consideration has been given to the pandemic situation. Of course the staff wear masks, hand sanitiser is on the table etc (thank you) but in addition the on-line wine list and table distancing, with side tables for food presentation and crockery removal helps reduce the contact between everyone present. But Whites is about the food of course. The 9-course taster menu full of new dishes is simply a joy. The combinations within a dish (e.g lamb loin with anchovy) are a taste experience. The elevation of a simple new potato (in the ground just a few hours earlier) to an absolute taste bomb is a remarkable surprise. The desserts complete the meal with fabulous flavours without overloading it. A splendid experience - as always.

We have frequented this restaurant numerous times over the years and I have always forgotten to do a review. We visited Saturday 8th August after them reopening during the week after the COVID lockdown. Firstly the food was absolutely amazing as every other visit we have attended, in our opinion it’s definitely the best in the area if you like taster menus. John and team can’t be far from a Michelin star, as the food and menu is always thought out well and the presentation and taste is sublime.Since lockdown they have certainly thought about the customers safety, with larger tables with side tables for the staff to put the food down, menu on the table, online wine list app and hand sanitizer on the table. This reduces the time the staff have contact with us, it certainly didn’t take anything away from the night and as usual the staff were friendly and attentive without compromising safety. If you have never been you are certainly missing out, we will be visiting again very soon. Thanks John and team as always first class

This was the first occasion that we had visited Whites and were not disappointed. It was a special occasion as we were a party of four celebrating 2 big birthday milestones, one a 50th and the other a 60th so an incredibly special evening with friends. Under the current Covid emergency conditions is probably a good place to start, social distancing and use of hand sanitisers were actively encouraged, while we did not have to wear masks every member of staff wore one. At the end of each table there was a small table containing a tray upon which the food was served and you lifted your dish and cutlery, drinks etc. and at the end of the course you placed the empty dishes back onto the tray. This felt safe and was well organised and did not interrupt the ambience of the evening. We had booked the 9-course tasting menu and what a delightful treat! This commenced with 4 amuse-bouche followed by the 9 courses, which can be seen from out attached photographs, including the menu. It is difficult for words to describe the food as this restaurant certainly lives up to its Michelin and Good Food Guide rating. The food was exquisite, fresh and melt in the mouth tasty. There was enough time between courses to enjoy company and conversation but well timed to allow us to savour the flavour of the completed dish and each dish complementing the previous and cleansing the palate, a well thought out menu, well done. The staff were attentive, professional, courteous, and friendly which only enhanced the experience. During the years of writing several hundred reviews on TripAdvisor we will only and have only scored a restaurant excellent if it has proved an all-round exceptional dining experience and can safely say that Whites are among the few at the top of our list. Well done Whites and would highly recommend a visit!

Wonderful bread with a celeriac veloute followed before we actually received the first of the four courses - crab with a thai sauce, cod and cabbage with horseradish sauce, duck cooked 2 ways and a rhubarb, jelly and lemon sorbet/ cream dessert. How can a dining experience be so good? It starts with the food of course! All the produce is sourced from the right place: local cuts of meat, fish and crab where possible - but scallops from the west coast of Scotland and trout from Hampshire chalk streams: all makes good sense. Then the dishes themselves - a sublime combination of ingredients (roof garden and local allotments now in play), prepared to perfection: simply mouth watering. The flow of the tasting menus is always brilliant from the outstanding canapés (how does John the chef come up with such splendid ideas?), through all the courses to the final dessert, that simply adds to and completes the meal. However, that is not all. The staff are all cheerful, pleasant and attentive, the restaurant is not pretentious but individual and comfortable with enough space around. So the complete ambience only contributes to the fabulous food. If value-for-money has to be mentioned, then this too is exceptional. The food and experience are remarkable, for the price it is unbelievable. It is hard to want to eat elsewhere after visiting Whites. 5 stars is too little.

This was our 3rd visit to Whites & we took along some friends who had wanted to go for some time. We knew roughly what to expect but were still overjoyed with the whole experience which began with a friendly greeting when we walked through the door & an immediate feeling of relaxation & anticipation of some delicious dishes of food coming our way. The layout of the tables which are well spaced out means you are not crammed together & have to listen to other people's conversations which is a nice change. The service from the young waiters was impeccable with good explanations of each course. Nice & friendly too without being overbearing & nothing was too much trouble to ask for. Then the food, ah, the food. It is so hard to describe taste but every course was met by all 4 of our party with very satisfying oohs, mmmms & every descriptive word relating to amazing dishes that you can think of! Some delicious complimentary canapes to start & then the beautifully created & presented 9 course tasting menu. This was spread over about 3 1/2 hours which made for a very chilled relaxing evening out with good friends who also appreciate divine dishes of food, excellent cooking skills combined with a very pleasant ambience. Just the right amount of time between courses too & no feeling of being rushed out at the end of the evening. Some very drinkable, reasonably priced wines to accompany the food followed by good Cognac & Grappa to finish on. A nice chat with the Chef Patron, John Robinson, who is a lovely guy as well as being a very hard worker who is passionate about his food & deserves all the accolades he gets & more! We were all extremely happy with the whole evening & I don't think it will be long before our friends say "We're going to book a table at Whites, do you want to come?"

Everything about our experience was wonderful. The restaurant itself is fairly unassuming, but is tastefully decorated, simple yet welcoming. The first thing we noticed was how few tables there were. This, we were told later, was an active decision made so as not to overcrowd the restaurant and make the dining experience better. This worked, in fact we were hardly aware of anyone else. The service was impeccable from start to finish, knowledgeable and attentive staff but not overbearing. The tasting menu is such a great experience, there was no procrastinating over the menu, the only decision we had to make was how many courses we were going to have. We opted for the 9 course. If you are a fussy eater or you’re expecting to be able to order from a menu, you don’t deserve to eat here. The tasting menu changes daily and you get what you’re given, you just have to trust the chef knows what he is doing, and trust us, he does. Using seasonal and local produce he crafted dishes that not only looked amazing but but were incredible to eat. The smoked eel was a particular highlight, as was the scallop. The gnocchi was the best we’re ever had. Upon arrival not only did we receive some complementary home made bread, we were severed a couple of amuse-bouche while we decided what to drink. The wine was really good value, we enjoyed a bottle of a decent NZ Sauvignon-blanc for just over £30, but you can have spent more or less. This was not a rushed affair, we enjoyed the experience and the fact there is just one sitting per night so we arrived at 7pm but didn’t leave until gone 10:30pm, well worth the £60 per head for the 9 course tasting menu. Surely a Mitchelin star is well overdue.

We've eaten at White's on several occasions and it has always been wonderful. John, the owner and chef, is genuinely passionate about his work and it shows. We particularly like the fact that you don't chose what you will eat - it is simply brought to you, leisurely course after course, each one carefully explained. We've only ever had the mid-week 4-course menu (not the weekend 9-course one) but it seems to end up being six and we always leave feeling we've eaten enough. When you book, you will be asked if you have any allergies or food preferences, so John does cater for anyone (vegan, whatever) it will just be that you don't actually choose from a menu. We find that much more relaxed. It's very reasonably priced, especially for such quality food. We took a couple of American friends the other month and they said it was better than nearly all of the New York restaurants that they go to.

Had a wonderful taster meal as a present for my birthday. Loved every course. Quite a lot of fish but as I love it it was great. Small restaurant but good service.

We visited with friends on Tuesday night and had the four course menu- accompanied by home-made bread and butter and 3 different amuses bouches. The quality of the food was truly excellent, service was spot on. Wines were well priced, menu had a bin end section. John the chef came out to talk to us before we left. If you are in Beverley you must visit here. (Need to book in advance)

Four of us had an evening meal consisting of a reasonably priced tasting menu that we all raved about. As well as an excellent 7 course the service was also excellent although surprisingly not busy the evening we ate. This meant the chef was able to improvise for one of the party who didn't eat fish and despite this delivered a great alternative. However if you are booking please tell the kitchen if there is anything you cannot eat as on a busy night substituting a course may be more tricky. Overall excellent food service and value for money. Five stars

Beautiful little restaurant, lovely staff, really well paced. Loads of really great fish and sea food, the softest tastiest duck I’ve ever eaten and an incredible dessert. Fairly reasonable for a tasting menu as well.

We had seven nights in Beverley, and we ate well on three of those nights. The two best were at White's. We were booked in for our first night and enjoyed it so much that we returned for our last. The decor is stylish minimalism, a small room but with few tables therefore not feeling crowded. There was no choice: the nine course menu was a mystery tour, which suited us well. The size of the courses was perfectly judged: after a pleasant dinner taking two and a half hours we felt we had eaten just the right amount. The young chef is obviously a perfectly skilled cook and he is brilliant at pairing flavours and textures - just the right number of ingredients so that the main flavours are not lost. On our second night the main fish course was a piece of dover sole fillet, the best I have ever tasted, in the lightest tempura batter, subtly spiced. And the main meat course was loin of lamb - very rare and pink but perfectly tender. Both courses demonstrated that the chef takes pains to source the finest ingredients. There is a short but good wine list, reasonably priced. A good selection of half bottles enabled us to have a half of white with the first fish and vegetable courses, then half of red with the meat.

My wife and I have enjoyed many wonderful meals at Whites, which provides the best food in East Yorkshire. On this occasion, we were celebrating my wife's birthday and chose the 9 course menu. Everything was so good that I asked the proprietor / chef John Robinson for the menu. This is not straight forward, as the menu varies from day to day and even from person to person to suit individual dietary requirements. However, John very kindly let me have a note of what we ate, as I could not possibly remember every detail of the outstanding meal. Here goes:

Fantastic small intimate restaurant, 9 course tasting menu excellent couldn't be faulted and well worth the price, can specify when booking any ingredients you won't eat and courses adjusted accordingly, Chef asks highs and lows of the meal when you've finished - there were no lows! wine list reasonably priced will be returning, highly recommended

We had the 9 course tasting menu, every course was explained as it arrived. The bread at the start was lovely, the highlights were the pigs cheek, lamb, celeriac mousse and the dessert! Chocolate, coffee, rhubarb and oats, what's not to like. The service was good and unobtrusive. This is a small restaurant with a chef/patron who cares about food. Somewhere to go for a treat. The wine list caters for all pockets.

My wife and I visited Whites for our 4th wedding anniversary looking for something special. The menu was a set 9 course taster menu at £57 each plus drinks. This is a small restaurant with only 7 tables accommodating about 16 people. Although small we did not feel crowded at all and there was a nice atmosphere despite minimalist decor. Service was excellent with the waitresses explaining every dish being served. The wine list was not extensive but did offer a good variety of wines at a variety of prices. We were very pleased to see some excellent wines that we were familiar with; Orvieto a refreshing white from Italy and Malbec, a rich red from Argentina. The food was preceded by a complementary muse bouche and bread. We were advised to select white wine for the the first 4 courses and then switch to red for 5 to 9. Although the portion sizes were very small they were all delicious with only two course that were for us a little disappointing. At the end we felt nicely satisfied without feeling bloated. The object here is to enjoy the flavours, quality and presentation of 9 different offerings rather than to simply fill you up. If you seek chips with quantity to feel full, don't go to Whites. The cost for the whole evening was £157 for the two of us. Something for a very special occasion. This was a culinary experience which we enjoyed. Would we do it again? Probably not.

Thoroughly enjoyed the evening, food was excellent and each course completely different. Wine list was not too pricey and there was a good range of wines by the glass and half bottle if you wanted to switch about. We were in about 3 hours but some of that was finishing off our wine so I guess 2-2.5 hours would be more realistic. Despite managing all 9 courses we went home sated but not overfull. Staff explained each dish and the courses were well spaced out. Tables not too close together so a feeling of privacy. We will definitely visit again.

The nine course taster is the best gastronomic experience around. Why he hasn’t got a Michelin star is beyond me. Perhaps a good thing as it may put pressure on a fabulous chef. Go now you won’t be disappointed

Went to this restaurant with high expectations and weren’t disappointed. All of us agreed one of the nicest places we’ve eaten. Quality of the food is fantastic and the staff attentive but not overbearing. As someone with a couple of food allergies the chef thoughtfully modified couple of the dishes. The mackerel and partidge were particularly good. Will definitely return in the future.

Excellent 9 course Taster menu. All 9 dishes were really tasty both of us thought the two deserts served were the wow dishes along with the entrees which were excellent. The restaurant ambiance and service were excellent and the waiter was very knowledgeable and a credit to the restaurant. Will certainly return without hesitation and would recommend. My only slight negative was the toilets which were no where near the standard you would expect. Ceiling covered in cobwebs and overall cleanliness in them let the rest of the establishment down.

Visited whites last night for my partners birthday, I'd heard about it from the Michelin and good food review, so definitely wanted to give it a try. Me and my partner thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, we had the 9 course taster menu and every course was beautiful and different, I'd had a few conversations with the chef beforehand as it was a surprise birthday meal, and he accommodated our dislikes. Again the menu was beautiful, we liked the element of surprise and how they were elegantly presented. The service was amazing the waitress was really friendly lovely smiley, couldn't be more happy to help, introduced the food knowledgeably didn't over introduce it at all. At the end of your meal the chef came out to talk with us which was a really nice touch. My only critism was the selection of spirits, there was lovely wine but unfortunately we're not wine drinkers however this didn't effect our night whatsoever! we'll definately return.. lovely atmosphere staff an food would really recommend.

Dined on 3 separate occasions and always absolutely delighted with the food, presentation and service. Will always recommend to others. My only disappointment is John was unable to commit to a wedding celebration meal for 20 people at 5pm which is earlier than his 7pm opening. Nonetheless will be dining again.

We are never disappointed with our occasional visits to Whites. From the moment you walk in the door, you are made to feel extremely welcome. The wine list is varied with very reasonably prices for the quality of wine received. We chose a South African red to hopefully compliment our 9 course taster menu.

Returned here with friends after convincing them that this was a destination restaurant (they live in Beverley and had never been). After a warm welcome we were shown to our table and the 9 course magic began. The wine list offers a great choice of moderately priced, well chosen bottles and we chose a decent red and a white to accompany the testing menu.

This restaurant is top notch and the owner/chef deserves to be awarded a Michelin star based on the quality of the food we were served. We opted for the nine course tasting menu and each course was expertly crafted. It was a dining experience of individual flavours that stood out in each course as we progressed through menu, all served with care. We will definitely return when we are in the area again.

Stuck a pin in a ( google) map to find a breakfast one hour away from leaving holiday accommodation. What a find. Interesting decor showed off the home made cakes and savouries whilst we waited a few minutes for a table. Breakfast avocado with poached eggs on sourdough bread, sun dried tomatoes, chorizo and pea shoots was divine and substantial. Staff were friendly and obviously enjoyed serving and cooking as much as we enjoyed eating. Make a detour. Worth every mile and every penny.

We visited over Easter and loved all the little chocolate eggs hidden around the cafe - kept the kids entertained whilst they waited for their food! Lovely cafe with a great menu. We ordered a range of different food but loved the halloumi burger and cheeseburger especially. It’s great that dogs are allowed in this cafe but as we don’t own a dog, even better that there are two areas - one for dogs and one where dogs aren’t allowed. Service was quick and with a smile, reasonably priced too for restaurant quality food. The only improvement needed is the toilet area - could do with a update!

I don’t often go into bakery shops but we were visiting Driffield today and spotted that there was a small seating area inside at the front of the shop and a larger area further in. We were ready for coffee and a snack The shop is obviously very popular as I had to join the queue but it gave me the opportunity to look at what was on offer. Vastly superior quality to what is available in other chain bakery shops and very well priced. I don’t eat bread but the sandwiches were definitely calling to me!😹
