The staff were vere extremely polite and friendly. Chris helped me decide which wrap to choose. I was unable to drive away after eating as my car wouldn't start. I waited around f or 2 hours for the AA and all the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Audrey was amazing with lots of ideas on what might be wrong and what I might try. The restaurant is immaculately clean and the food is excellent. They clearly take pride in everything they do. Everyone should stop here on their journey 👍

What a wonderful place, truly a hidden gem. We found this place by accident - we won’t go anywhere else in future!! Scrumptious food, very clean and tidy restaurant and toilets, plus they have a takeaway area! I visited with my sons on the way to visit family from our home in Cornwall.Food was lovely except the burger was way overpriced. £5.45 for a burger bun and a slice of fake cheese. Service was polite. We were the only customers. Cook also got our order wrong. She loudly discussed with the server. Luckily none of us had allergies Dining was put off by the staff reading out and discussing other reviews very loudly. Won’t return

Every time my wife and I visit this restaurant it is always very busy which says something about its popularity. The staff are always polite and helpful despite needing to find tables for incoming clients which is sometimes difficult until someone leaves. The menu contains something for everyone's tastes. Popped in for a cuppa en route to Cornwall. Very friendly welcome and good service. Clearly a popular place, but is in need of some TLC as looking a bit bland and dated. Bit of a dull day, so views not great, but windows pretty dirty and several double glazed units had clearly “blown”. Pleasant Classic FM music playing in the background.

After deciding not to eat at the Jamaica inn, we stopped here for our lunch. Looked a little shabby, but I’ve eaten in worse places! Looked like it was an old little chef. The young lad that served us, gave fantastic service, polite, great attitude, nothing was too much trouble. 5 of us had half pounders and chips, the portions were huge! Great value for money, very impressed!

Stopped here for breakfast but was not impressed. The young waitress was lovely, but the chef was rather miserable and swapping tomato for beans was way too much trouble and she made it perfectly clear that she would not do it by moaning at the waitress really aggressively and loudly so I told her I’d have bacon sandwich instead. Food was adequate. Would not come back due to the cook!!!!

The restaurant is off the A30, by a petrol station, so one would expect it to be a service station cafe - with dubious quality and high prices. BUT, that's not the case. I brought my family here, after being unable to find a pub. The food has a good variety, decent sized servings and the prices are reasonable. There is ample parking behind the restaurant. There is a decent range for a vegetarian options as well. The staff are pleasant, the restaurant decor reasonable, and I enjoyed my time there. If I am looking for negatives - the seats can't move, so elbow room can be limited and the toilets could be improved.

Stopped here today for lunch. Husband had chocolate and coconut creation which came with a generous helping of clotted cream. Enough said! Didn’t seem to notice anything but the cream. I had homemade vegetable soup which came with a lovely seeded wholemeal roll and butter. Soup was quite spicy and really, really good. Would recommend it highly. Tea and coffee as expected. Would I stop here again? Yes. Price was very reasonable, staff were lovely. Loos need to be checked maybe as not as nice as they could be but much of that is down to customers behaviour. If you drop loo roll on the floor, pick it up as you would at home.

After 11.30 you have to be lucky to get a table.Place is basic in terms of facilities. Staff are friendly. Food is freshly cooked. Breakfast is nothing out of the ordinary. Bacon was nice and crispy. We have visited this restaurant on several occasions and have always had excellent food and service. The staff are friendly and eager to please. My only complaint is the toilet facilities as each time we've been there has been a problem with either the toilet not flushing, a door not locking or problems with taps. We called there on Bank Holiday Monday and had to queue for a considerable time and one of the toilets was not flushing and every time and when it did it nearly overflowed. For a service station we feel this is very poor. As I've said, the food is really good and they really need to spend some money on the facilities. This is the only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5.

Having left Cornwall early on a wet day, we needed to stop for a mid morning breakfast stop. It was then we discovered The Whitehouse at the services.Expecting the usually lack lustre services cafe, we were greeted by an enthusiastic young waiter who enquired whether we had booked. Not a question we had ever had at such an establishment but we soon noticed the reserved signs on many of the tables. It was then that 'Carol' was called (a lady running an efficient ship) to confirm where we might sit. Thankfully she had one table left. As we approached our table we glanced at a sign on the adjacent chair saying , 'Unavailable due to wedding.... ' Could this be true, what had we stumbled across? However the image of the bride and groom arriving was soon replaced by the image of a man with an Oxyacetylene tanks as the sign actually said 'welding'.Breakfast arrived quickly and with a smile. What the Whitehouse lacks is decor, it makes up for in great service and good value food for a roadside services. The reservations were for the Whitehouse Sunday roast which is so popular, our neighbouring table were already starting a full lamb roast at 11 in the morning.Full credit to a well run and friendly place. Don't expect high level cuisine but value and service is at its best.

Other Tripadvisor reviews seemed to indicate an inexpensive but reasonable quality road side restaurant. Although this place has several things going for it, kindly and polite service, quick food service, and an excellent location, it failed miserably for us. We wanted something with a bit more quality. We regularly visit this restaurant /cafe as it is on our doorstep. Lovely choice of very reasonably priced meals with options of small or large servings for most of the 'daily specials' from the board [Usually available between 10 .30 ish and 5 depending on demand. ] There are daily roasts listed on the board too ! From the main menu there is a lovely selection of breakfasts including vegetarian and good choice of jacket potatoes ,in addition to salads , club sandwich, fish dishes and snacks .There is a good children's menu .It is advisable to book for Sunday roasts as these are very popular. Seating here is basic banquettes but very clean throughout with an 'overspill' area for larger groups. Staff are friendly and helpful even when rushed off their feet [ this popular 'stopover ' gets incredibly busy at times. ] We can highly recommend this restaurant for locals and visitors to and from Cornwall alike as meals are very reasonably priced , cooked to a high standard with a lovely menu choice .

Whitehouse Services is located just off the A30 near Oakhamption and can be accessed either via north or southbound traffic. The services consist of a fuel station, shop and restaurant. The restaurant serves something that is almost impossible to get at most services which is home cooked quality food at reasonable prices. We stopped here both on our way down to Cornwall and on our way back. Going down we enjoyed the roast dinner and coming back we had the breakfasts. All meals were excellent, nothing fancy, just great quality home cooking. There is also a children's menu available for both breakfast and main courses as well. The restaurant resembles a traditional diner with an open plan kitchen and fixed seating. The dining area was clean and the staff extremely welcoming and polite. There is wifi available and toilets onsite. The only downside is that the toilets are in heavy use from non-diners so there could be a queue, especially for ladies. The food is such good value that even the locals are regulars.I just wish that all services stations served food like this.

The Food was reasonable, the place was dated and a little drab and could potentially be so much better with a modern uplift and a tidier layout, which could only result in the fixed table and chairs being removed to accommodate far more people in the same area with greater comfort. The staff were all very friendly, however it is strange to see a sign asking you to wait to be seated when every customer is greeted at a distance with take your pick of where to seat.My Steak & Pie Homemade in a traditionally oval dish was really nice, although the Pastry was well under cooked, a rare bonus is that the peas came out hot, most unusual anywhere! The place could do with being kept cleaner a chair next to us had sauce from a previous diner and a few cobwebs were noticeable along with some missed food being under the dated style tables.

Where else could you get a large roast dinner for £7.49? and that's only one of the many things on offer. It's always busy because not only passing traffic off the A30 but also the locals flock in, so it's a good idea to book on a Sunday. Popped in for a coffee on an extremely long drive home, and was tempted by the wonderful smell of home cooked food which greets you at the door! The coffee was good and served in a pot (awesome!) and the food arrived quickly and was very tasty. Lots of space, free wifi, very reasonably priced and friendly staff. Really fab place to stop and refuel.

Regularly pop into white house restaurant when we're in Okey and we've never had a bad meal yet. You MUST book on a Sunday or you'll never get in as it's so popular !!

We stopped here going and coming back from our holiday to Cornwall.Lovely staff and delicious food.It was nice and quiet on our first visit, but on our return visit, was really busy (which is a good sign), but not a problem, we were served promptly and did not have to wait too long for our breakfast either. We had the 'full English' both times and each was yummy, not dripping in grease and the fried bread was to die for.Would recommend a stop here if you are travelling near Okehampton on A30 through Devon.

Stopped for a very hurried wee and pulled up next to a drab looking building behind the BP station with a 'restaurant' sign outside. We all bundled in looking for toilets and decided to chance a breakfast as the snow had started to fall hard (in April?). With lots of space we chose three breakfasts and two larger breakfasts with teas and coffee. Coffee came in a pot - fantastic! Same with the tea meaning we were fully lubricated before the huge breakfasts arrived. Sausages were piping and porky, hash browns crispy and steaming, fried bread looking tasty and even tastier once a fried egg had been lumped on top. Service was speedy and friendly too - prices very reasonable. If you're sailing home from Cornwall or Devon on the A30 make sure you stop here to top up on superbly cooked food in a family friendly cafe.

Spotlessly clean, large helpings of freshly cooked good-quality food (nothing that has been slowly going leathery in a warm cabinet here!... no, this was proper..); friendly helpful attentive staff, good menu, extremely reasonable prices. If ONLY all roadside food was like this (sigh). But this was very good indeed, and highly recommended.

A wonderful meal for under a fiver with beautiful views. This is an ex little chef, but don't let that put you off. If you are looking for quick food and excellent quality you can't beat this. We will be back!

We usually stop off at the big service station at Exeter until friends told us about this place. Not any more! Plenty of choice of good home cooked food, excellent friendly warm service and good prices! We stopped here twice in a day with friends and all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. This is the best service station café for good grub!We will be definitely stopping here in the future.

We have been to this Restaurant many times and today we were very disappointed, we chose from the Specials Board foolishly thinking the specials would be freshly cooked, this sadly was not the case I had Roast Lamb and my wife had Steak and Kidney pie , both of these dishes had been microwaved so much so I burnt my mouth on the veg, I chose the large portion, in my opinion there was not enough meat to call it a large portion, and there was so much gravy it was almost running over the side, this was thin and had no flavour, on previous visits we had been delighted with our food, but today £15 for 2 teas and 2 not very good plates of food was a disappointment. The pastry on my wife's pie was grey and undercooked 'wet' in the middle. sadly we probably wont go back. on the up side the staff were all pleasant and the place was clean. Everytime we have been there it is busy with locals and it seems to be popular however I wish we had purchased a Pasty in the garage shop next door! This restaurant falls well below others we have visited for the prices they charge.

We've eaten here twice in the last fortnight. First visit was a sunday lunch and it was very busy. We had booked a table so all ok. Excellent choice of roasts and a wide range of other meals on the menu. Lots of locals seem to come here for sunday lunch and we could understand why. Generous portions and helpful staff.Second visit was a quick bite for brunch....lovely home made sausages, tasty bacon and great chips. Couldn't fault it.We enjoyed both visits and we will certainly visit again. This is a cut above ordinary services off major roads. Very friendly and good value. Only just off the A30 and well worth a stop off to break the journey.

Steak and kidney pie......homemade, great taste. Prices are reasonable. Great little stop while travelling, much better than a service station which are over priced and fast food.

We have used this wonderful place many times and have never been disappointed. The service and food are excellent and the Hearty Breakfast the other day was quite definitely the best 'Full English' I can remember. Lovely local sausages, eggs cooked to perfection.sizzling bacon and fried bread just right! They also do plenty of home-cooked dishes that you would not expect to find in a roadside eatery, such as roasts etc. The shop attached to the Petrol Station is also very well stocked with all you could need on a long journey. All in all, the best place to stop, whether you are travelling east or west!

This place has great classic food, good service and a friendly atmosphere. its a pleasant change to the sometimes cold clinical cafes on motorway/A roads found nowadays , the staff here want to help and serve you, its traditional food, nothing fancy, and it's fresh. what we had was perfect, the portions were great. it does look a bit tired on the outside and inside is a bit spartan.but it's clean and tidy and welcoming, ps. my son had a homemade pasty, it was perfect and got the approval from my wife, who is cornish. it definitely gets the thumbs up from us.

Lovely homemade food at really good price for roadside services.Small roast dinner is on the board for those who eat less than a large portion. Very clean with great service. This is how to eat when on the road, or any time you fancy decent homemade food

Always stop here for breakfast on our way to Cornwall. We usually have a very early start from Shropshire and arrive around 7.30am - and it does start to get busy at that time in the school holidays - popular stop off as petrol station also there and ideally located just off the A30. Excellent breakfast - and do children's portions too - and speedy and friendly service. Would recommend as a great stop point for a bite to eat if heading down this way - probably our 4th visit here.

Stopped here on the way up from cornwall for brunch. Myself and my partner had the large breakfast which was brilliant: eggs, sausage, bacon, beans, fried bread, mushrooms, tomato and hash browns. Cooked perfectly and served quickly by friendly staff.Happily the portions are fit for truckers and the hot chocolate had half a can of whipped cream on it and chocolate sprinkles. The price was reasonable and as an afterthought I bought one of the prints they had for sale on the wall for 15 quid. As well as breakfast, the menu includes burgers, full dinners, mixed grills, salads and sandwiches. Will be coming back again next time we are down south as this is without doubt the best services restaurant I've ever been too. Only downside.....the loo's are tiny and had a large queue.

It's essentially a large cafe on a main route to and from the far south-west, the food is very good though. They have a varied menu from all day breakfasts to roast dinners, all moderately priced. They have wait staff and all are friendly. It's situated next to a petrol station and has a large car park and toilet facilities within the cafe. I would highly recommend this as a stop instead of your traditional service station.

Called in for coffee and something to eat on the 3rd of July.Coffee - not much choice given what is available these days on the high street.I had a warm donut. It seems to be microwaved which makes it warm on the outside and volcanic on the inside. The ham was red hot and indeed burnt me.Toilets are so so and even the boys had to queue.

Just had an amazing Roast Pork Sunday Dinner at this little roadside restaurant. Don't be put off by the outside gardens, they do need a bit of tending! The meal was plentiful, with fresh veg and scrummy crunchy roast potatoes. The staff were friendly and efficient, and nothing seemed to be too much trouble. We are local to the area, so can see this being quite a regular Sunday Lunch for us.

We have stopped here lots of times on our way from Penzance to our timeshare in Bournemouth, as it's a good midway watering hole. Always freshly prepared, home made food, good service and a welcoming break. A traditional, reliable restaurant that does the job admirably.

This is not a 5 star hotel or Michelin Starred Restaurant and it doesn't pretend to be but it is a reliable, consistently good services restaurant. It is clean, Good food well served by friendly efficient staff. Very reasonably priced AND it does a good Sunday Roast. The only thing that lets it down is the size of the Gents and the positioning of the Urinal. Other than that it's Really really good. Little Chef could learn a lot from Whitehouse. We'll be back there next time we're visiting family in Cornwall.

I've spent my driving life avoiding all stops, probably because I'm of a generation to remember pre- Motorway cafes from my childhood so realise just how dismal most modern offerings are. Three cheers then for the Whitehouse on the A30 at Okehampton. Friendly staff, of all generations, serve a good range of fresh, well-cooked food in a bright room with views away from the main road and over the Devon countryside. Five of us (all pretty demanding of food) ate five different meals and not a complaint between us. Pretty good value too by service station standards. The second time we've stopped here - pleased both times - and discovered it just in the nick of time before age makes stopping on the Bristol/Lands End run a necessity rather than a choice!

We have just enjoyed the best Sunday lunch in a pub ever at this beautifully atmospheric old pub, nestled on the fringes of Dartmoor. Thick cuts of tender beef accompanied by a great selection of perfectly cooked vegetables, all washed down by a fantastic selection of beers. Can't wait to go back!
