Whitehead's Fish and Chips in East Riding of Yorkshire

Was really looking forward to coming here and have to say was pretty disappointed. The young lad was pleasant enough but did seem more interested in the more local / regular customers. The food was very average I’ve had worse but had better. the having to pay 40p for any type of sauce is outrageous, I understand paying for homemade sauces but paying for a tiny pot of ketchup when paying good money for food isn’t really fair, the tartar sauce was awful. Just a real shame all round

Lovely fish & chips, great service and nice clean restaurant. Highly recommend, you definitely will not be disappointed.

We took a friend for lunch yesterday. The haddock and chips were outstanding as usual, my husband enjoyed the large plate and just enough on the light bite plate for us ladies. Very welcoming, excellent service.

Amazing!!! Had a moby and chips, mushy peas and curry sauce delivered. Rang up last minute for a delivery and luckily they squeezed us in. The food was delivered at the time stated. Fish was incredible- meaty Haddock and the crispiest, lightest batter! Mushy peas and curry sauce also really tasty. I would have liked the chips a little smaller and crispier but aware this may just be personal taste. WELL worth a visit

Looking for somewhere to take relatives with a baby and this worked well. Good food, clean tables, not packed in. Made for a pleasant experience.

On holiday in the area and sought it out after reading it was recommended by he Sunday Times, and won the National Fish & Chip Awards 2023. In an odd location in the middle of a housing estate but well worth looking for. Ate in the restaurant which was very clean, modern, and decorated with quirky light fittings made of copper pipes. We had Haddock and Cod with all the trimmings and it was amazing, beautiful thick and moist pieces of fish in a tasty light batter, delicious chunky chips and really good mushy peas. Came with a nice pot of tea and bread and butter. Not the cheapest but well worth paying for. Staff were friendly and efficient too. Will certainly return when next in the area.

Yes I appreciate this is a busy restaurant but the man in the restaurant really needs lessons in customer service. Firstly we didn’t have a friendly greeting only have you booked? Then it was name them just pointed to where our table was, he took our order with not even a thankyou! When he brought our tea, he slammed everything down on the table with such force it spilled the milk and didn’t even bring a cloth to clean it up. I was so pleased that the younger girl brought the food as I was concerned we may have been wearing it had he brought it. Even on the empty tables he was throwing cutlery around and he just snatched menus out of peoples hands on other tables, then informing them they’d got the wrong menu!!! We travelled for more than an hour to visit and certainly didn’t expect the fawlty towers experience. The younger lady could certainly give him lessons in waiting on. It certainly took the focus of the food and we won’t be going back to the restaurant again, I note the awards are for the takeaway so it will be this if we venture that far again,

Average fish and chips, one regular haddock was very thin the other 2 were ok. The chips were so chunky some were still hard I have never seen chips as chunky in a chip shop. Tastewise as not cooked in beef fat was a little tasteless. Would I revisit prob not . Nice mushy peas and curry . Service took a long time as serving the restaurant from the same fryers, long waiting time approx 20mins.

Party of four for lunch booked for 1.30. Unfortunately run out of regular cod which is our preferred option. However the haddock was a good 2nd choice and tasted very fresh. Just a little niggle or two, round table for 4 was small, felt very over crowded. Slice of lemon would have been nice. Good pot of tea (or coffee) and bread and butter included which is a nice traditional touch. Thought chip’s might have been kept warm a while but overall very enjoyable.
