Such a great little pub, We hosted a 60th birthday party here at the weekend in thier function room and couldn't have asked for a better day. Thank you to all the members of staff that looked after us this weekend!

We usually visit during Saturday evening and was previously an ambient atmosphere whereby we could talk to friends. However, it seems to be the "norm" for the past few weeks whereby an exceptionally loud disco/karaoke is on. We don't object to this and it can be quite entertaining but the volume needs to be toned down as the room is not large. It is a lovely traditional pub and seems such a shame the noise level could lead to loss of custom.

We went to the Foresters Arms last night for a meal as we had been before and it was pretty good on that occasion, however after last night's visit we won't be returning. We arrived at around 5.30pm and went to the bar to ask if food was being served as there was no writing on the external boards, no menus on show and no specials board as before. A young female behind the bar called out to a scruffy tall bearded guy sat at the bar to ask " Are we still serving food" to which he replied yes-alarm bells should have rung at that point as she wasn't aware of the service time! She gave us two menus and walked away to lean on the till without asking if we would like to order any drinks-very poor service and a lack of customer care in my eyes. We got her attention and ordered drinks then sat down and decided that we would both order the homemade steak pie but asked for mushy peas which they obliged instead of the garden peas, at £11.00 this was good value. The scruffy guy at the bar then got up and it turned out he was the "chef"! If I had known at the time that he wasn't going to be wearing chef whites, and a hat I wouldn't have ordered-this guy obviously isn't aware of the food hygiene regulations in the UK or just doesn't care. We received our food which was worth the money spent however due to the lack of customer care and the feeling that we were more of an interruption than a paying customer in the pub we will not return or recommend the Foresters to anyone. I was also surprised to see that as soon as we received our food the "chef" stood behind the bar and enjoyed his pint of lager-drinking and operating fryers at 180 oc and operating ovens to bake? not a good mix! This is a real shame as it was recently refurbished and as we only live 5 minutes walk away was going to be our local pub, we will spend our money in pubs that are more welcoming and friendly. As I work in the hospitality industry I know how difficult it is to turn a decent profit in this business especially as a tenant or leaseholder of a pub.Very disappointed with our visit in the terms of service and the fact the chef cooks in his jeans and hoody! All I would say is if you want a cheap meal that is ok but don't want decent service or a chef following food hygiene regulations then give them a visit!

The chef also knew this was the case. The main criticism was the chef didn't seem to give a damn made me very angry if I didn't have my wife and kids with me I would have made a major scene Come on chef have some pride hence unless there is some sort of change in these matters I won't ever go again looks like I will go back to tiger. Our second time out to our local pub. We were hoping for a quick evening meal and something a bit like our last visit a month ago - which was average pub grub - perfectly serviceable and not unreasonably priced. Bizarrely the experience was like a trip back to the 70s. The bad food 70s we thought condemned to history. None of the ingredients were fresh. The (rectangular) fish and chips and mushy peas my partner ordered came in a plastic basket lined with paper and then put on a plate - you can imagine what came of the paper as it joined forces with the mushy peas! (Why on earth?) My pie of the day wasn't much more than chicken and mushroom soup cooked in a dish with a puff-pastry capping.Yuck. (Come on guys, real pies aren't that difficult). This came on a plate together with a gravy boat put on the plate along with the chips and peas - but why did I need to add half a pint of bisto to my mushy in-dish pie? To top the experience off, and because then we hadn't ordered our puddings together with our first course by 7.00pm, we were denied pudding. We had to go home and dig something out of our own freezer. The whole amounted to a sad experience. Sad because it all felt like a missed opportunity to do something well. Sad too knowing that with the rate of pub closure at an all-time peak, landlords can't afford to get their food offering wrong. I hope they can stop the rot, pull their socks up and match the rejuvenated pub decor with some real effort on the food front, but until then we'll be better off sticking our own frozen dinners in the oven.As a foot note, this was the first time I've ever been asked whether I want ice in my wine! What's that about? The beer selection is excellent however, and they gracefully don't ask you if you want ice in your pint.Oh, and you still can't pay with a debit or credit card, so take some cash.

We visited The Forrester’s Arms on Friday 28th November, for a family gathering to celebrate two birthdays. We ordered starters, and as far as I am aware, all was fine. After a while, main courses followed, and on the whole, everyone was fairly satisfied with their meal – but there was one!! I had ordered the Cumberland Sausage, which came with a portion of chips, peas, and a ‘fried’ egg. The chips were fine, the peas were fine, but the sausage and egg looked like they had been sat on the heat for far too long. I struggled to ‘cut’ my way through the sausage, but I finally had to give up, as I was in fear of bending the knife or breaking the plate.I took the meal to the bar, and the barman said that he would have another cooked to replace it – he also said that we would not be charged, which was fair. The down-side to this was the fact that while all the others had been finished their meals for 10 minutes or more, I was still waiting for mine. When it finally came, I was again reminded that we would not be charged for it. This time the sausage was cooked to perfection, the peas were fine, there was no ‘fried’ egg, and the chips were undercooked! I just could not be bothered to complain further, so I just ate what was edible, and left the rest. I was not asked if I was satisfied with the second attempt. When the meal was over, the tables were left un-cleared.I have only marked the score down by two points, as the rest of the diners were fairly satisfied. I have marked it down one point for my poor meal, and another point for not getting it right the second time.
