Lovely food, friendly staff. A lovely old building with loads of character. Welcoming and warm with open fires.

We've eaten here before and it was fine - not brilliant, but our visiting friends like dining in the railway carriages and that was the reason for our visit. However... I'm not sure what went wrong today but it was one of the worst Sunday lunches we ever had. After waiting nearly 40 minutes, a very small half portion of overly salty soup arrived, delivered with a cold basic shop bought cheapo bread roll. We ordered Sunday roast and it was so bad it was comical. Again, such a small portion size that it looked like it was meant for a child. My single roast potato was the size of a brussel sprout! I had to ask for more and to be fair they did bring 2 more very small roast potatoes (lol!). 2 small pieces of beef that were gone in about 6 mouthfuls. The food was only luke warm. We had intended having desserts as well but didn't bother after that. We are all for supporting local restaurants, but it just seemed today that this place has given up. The railway carriages are looking tired - the net curtains were filthy, for example! I don't think this place will be around for much longer if they carry on like this. There are far better Sunday roasts available nearby! We wouldn't go here again.
