Four very nice meals. We had a rib eye steak, pie of the day, vegetarian wellington, & liver & bacon. Well presented & served with a smile. Waited about 25 minutes - good time for fresh tasty food. Followed by sticky toffee pudding & cheesecakes. Nothing left on plates! Clean throughout with ample close by parking. Thank you. Very reasonable prices. Will return.

Great Sunday lunch. All freshly cooked ingredients. Gorgeous lamb. They also do chicken pork and beef plus a veggie option. Large jug of gravy. Nothing not to like. Service excellent and lovely friendly down to earth pub. Highly recommend this place. Shame we don't live closer as would definitely visit again. Oh my husband had the fish and chips and he said they were delicious. They also do a few other menu items for those who don't fancy a Sunday lunch. However me personally as a Sunday lunch lover have to say this was one of the best Sunday lunches I have had. Plentiful too. Thank you

Went in to get some lunch as the pub looked nice from the outside. Checked they were still serving food so ordered our drinks. After we ordered our drinks we were told. There is only sweet potato chips or crisps, no other potatoes! As we were going to have fish we decided not to have anything. I noticed a couple of people eating fish with crisps!! Surely they could have got some chips from somewhere or potatoes??? Really cross they let us order drinks before telling us as we wouldn't have bothered!! Won't be going there again!

Husband and I desperately needed a break away, we decided to go closer to home, as we still had commitments at home to deal with. This break was exactly what we needed, in fact we booked for 3 nights and ended up staying 7. Ralph the site manager is honestly the most genuine guy, whom goes out his way to welcome you and say goodbye, but also go above and beyond any site manager we have witnessed before. His light hearted humor certainly put a smile and laugh on our faces. The site is simple, clean, flat and peaceful. The facilities are fine, although we were told the shower block is being changed. Husband went fishing in the lake and although he has fished all his life, caught the biggest ever fish, he was breaming (sorry pun intended). We enjoyed ourselves that much we have already booked to return.

Called in on spec as passing by on our way home following a long, muddy walk with the kids and our Springer! We asked if we could come in and were welcomed with open arms. It was 4pm on a Sunday and limited to the Sunday dinner which was not a problem. I have to say we were all so impressed with the food, quality of service and friendliness of all the staff. A thick slice of beautiful tender beef (kids had chicken which came wrapped in bacon), a huge homemade Yorkshire, loads of fresh veg served in individual pots (which I love) and ample gravy, so reasonable priced too. Thank you for looking after and feeding us so well, we will be back.

We arrived on a cold evening to a very warm log fire reception. We were immediately greeted by the friendly staff with drinks and a menu. The menu is traditional and inviting. We had our 2 year old son with us and would accommodate anything on the menu for him. Between us we ordered a small fish and chips a large portion too, both generous. Home made lasagna and garlic bread, steak and the sausage dinner. All were hearty and delicious and the steak was cooked exactly to order. The beer was well kept and our friends who joined us and weren’t going to eat soon ordered after us. The proprietors were very helpful and friendly and would definitely eat there again. We were a party of five and visited to celebrate my birthday. I chose soup for started which was lovely as was all the starters in the group. When the main course came they said there had been a mix up and one of the meals hadn't been done. Did they think five people were going to share 4 meals. They did eventually rectify this but didn't think the complaint was dealt with by staf very well. I chose lasagna for main meal and expected a lasagna made in an oval dish filled with mince in rich tomato sauce layered with pasta and finished with cheese sauce. What I got was a small slice of mince without any tomato sauce pasta topping and then cheese sauce on top placed in an oval dish it was dry and not very nice. The other member of the party who had this didn't enjoy it also. But to be fair the other meals at our table looked lovely so think i just chose the wrong thing. This dish definately wants taking off their menu.

We have been to the White Swan on four occasions now, usually for Sunday lunch, and the quality of food is always the same, excellent! They cater for coeliac customers too with wonderful home-made Yorkshire puddings, gravy and stuffing, and a sweet course all gluten free. You even get the gluten free stuffing with the beef and it is delicious. Order a large beef dinner and you won't want anything else till late in the evening. (Then it's might only be crackers and cheese) My wife has the regular dinner and that fills her up. The beef is succulent and tasty, and the veg is served in individual pots, carrot batons, broccoli, white cabbage and frozen peas-hot and slightly crunchy. Children are welcome and catered for with a comprehensive menu. Also, try the bottled cider, it's made locally, Scrumpy Wasp, bottled in winter and keg in summer. Absolutely gorgeous! We had a reservation for 18 people, we came up a couple of months prior to the big weekend, just to "check it out". Even from then, after a Sunday lunch and a drink, we had a very warm welcome from Elaine, Eric and Selena, plus other members of staff. On the evening of the meal with mum and dad, and family (18 in total), the pub had put up a banner, laid appropriate "background" music on. Elaine and her wonderful team laid on an exceptional meal, not one of the 18 people had any concerns over their meals. Homemade dishes, piping hot, delivered with great customer service and all at a reasonable price. A big thanks to all the staff who helped towards mum and dad having a memorable meal. Either way she was fantastic, interactive and chatty and would make sure your happy with everything, that goes to the waitress and the chef too! My girlfriend had the cheese and broccoli bake.... Superb.... Tasty and very very satisfied she was.... Mine was less taxing, a double cheeseburger with homemade chips, didn't know how hungry I was so played safe but at least I know it is a safe bet and very tasty to boot. This was followed by treacle sponge and custard!! Sweet!!!!! No complaints, while the better half had the lemon gateau, huge slice of that bad boy, and went down aplomb!!! Would give it higher but promised I would be back to try something proper and I will!!! This is simple but proper fresh pub grub, that's not a disservice, the menu and special board will cater for all!!Ps the whole place is well presented and furnished and the bathroom facilities are of a very clean and good standard, these guys do take pride in their work! Thanks.

My parents and I visited this establishment today for a meal. The staff were all friendly and very polite. The food choice was really excellent and our meals were great. Would have had desert but the meals had filled us all up already. All in all a truly memorable meal and truly pleasant surroundings.

We had passed this establishment en route to the Japanese Garden near Newark, so after a disappointing trip there decided to call in for a spot of late lunch here. And it was worth it. Varied Menu and specials to choose from. There is also a salad bar to choose from if you did not want traditional veg with your meal. Although I will say this was a little depleted but it was mid afternoon!. Went for the Pie - excellent - lots of meat well cooked and most enjoyable. The wife went for Scampi in a Basket again thoroughly enjoyed. Relaxed atmosphere, you can sit out if you want, and the staff where pleasant and attentive. Made our trip out for the day worthwhile!

Just stopped off here for a quick bite to eat on the way to a football match in Lincoln. Delicious home cooked food (can recommend pies and chips!) that was great value for money considering the portion sizes. Staff were lovely and welcoming and we didn't have to wait long at all. Great pub food will stop off again, thank you.

As a group of 11 we visited the Black Swan on a Saturday night. Having been let down by another venue we called ahead and they were happy to accommodate us at very short notice. In our group we ordered a host of starters, mains and puddings. The whole group were very satisfied with our food and felt that it was good value. The majority of the menu is homemade and I'd particularly recommend the pies and the lasagne. If we're in the area again we'll definitely return.

Stopped to eat on a Sunday around 2:30 after visiting a nearby market. We received a friendly welcome by the girl on the bar who advised us we could sit where we wanted and if we were eating there would be a 20 minute wait, I was very impressed by this as we could have left if we had been in a rush but we wasn't.My husband had a beef Sunday lunch and I had the minted lamb & potato pie both came with mixed vegetables and a choice of potatoes, both looked and tasted great. I was also offered additional gravy. It's a lovely pub that seems to have a good local clientele and the ladies toilets were spotlessly cleanIf we are in the area again would defiantly revisit if only to try one of the tempting puddings on display as I was too full this time.

My Husband and Myself came for dinner last Sunday around 1pm. I'm unsure what the gentlemen a couple of reviews down is talking about as we had a superb meal! There were quite a few tables dining, and the staff were coping very well. The customer service we received was great, the staff came back to check on us and offered more Vegetables or Gravy. We both had the Sunday Lunch, My Husband had the Beef and Myself the Lamb the meat was so tender, everything was served hot and very good quality. We finished off with some deserts from the special board, their homemade Cherry Pie was delicious and very generous! All the sweets in the Display Cabinet looked amazing! One of the waitress' informed us they also offer them to takeaway. We had a lovely time at The White Swan and will be returning soon! 10/10 !!

Visited this pub last Sunday about 4pm. Few tables of people in either eating or having a drink. Place has been redecorated since our last visit and looked great. We all had a Sunday lunch and were really impressed with the size of the portion for only £7.99. Two of us had lamb and the other two had beef and it was so tender. You could tell the quality of the meat was good. We really enjoyed our meal and seeing the desserts on offer we had to indulge-again these were very decent portions and were £2.50 each. Amazing value

Called in today for Sunday lunch with my three children. As the title says I was wary because it was Sunday afternoon and it was 12.30 and there was only one table with two people sat at at it, yes there were two tables of 6 with reserved on but it was empty. The menu looked promising and the homemade pies on display did lead me into what was on the whole a false sense of security. The Sunday lunch menu states choice of 'roast meats'...I ordered chicken. What came was a poached chicken breast, not roast. It was accompanied my a small Rankin with a few carrots, a piece of broccoli and a piece of cauliflower, small pieces at that. Two Icecream scoops of mashed potato, two roasters, a hard chunk of stuffing and worst of all 1 aunt Bessie's yorkshire pudding. Now the rest I could possibly and did turn a blind eye to but cone on yorkshire pudding gs aren't rocket science are they? You had what looked like gorgeous home made cherry and apple pies sat on the bar and then you embarrass yourself by plonking a warmed up frozen Yorkshire pudding on a plate....it just doesn't make sense!Moving onto the children's meals. Two portions of sausages, chips and peas. Deep fried sausages??? Again I ask Why? It can't have been convenience...because you were empty! Not once were we asked if our meals were OK or if we needed anything else throughout the meal. When we had finished our plates were left on our table for 20 minutes....we had planned to order 4 pies and custard but based solely on the fact that in an empty restaurant we had been left unattended for near on half an hour with finished meals in front of us I paid and we had deserts elsewhere. My advice to you is have a think about consistently...if you're going to offer homemade things on you're menu then commit to that fully and don't have customers playing food Russian roulette.

We stayed right next door to the White Swan during out weekend holiday and I was looking forward to eating / drinking there as part of my mums 70th surprise party. We were very dissapointed to be told that they could not accomodate us for food on the sunday. We were a large party of 18 (10 children), which is why we asked in advance if they could cater for us and the owner just said blankly said no. It wasnt even busy! I dont understand how places like this survive when they dont even want peoples custom. Incredbile! Saying that it was actually a blessing in disguise for us as we checked out the newly renovated Bridge Inn around the corner and it was a totally different experience in every way (see other review)

We visited for dinner on a weekday evening. We were the only diners. There were two rather loud drinkers by the pub. But the good thing is that there are two sides to this pub and we chose to sit on the side opposite the drinkers, affording us some shelter from the excitable drinkers. The lady serving drinks at the bar took our order. She wasn't overly friendly and didn't go out of her way but she was polite. There was a bit of a wait for the food but that was okay as at least it was cooked to order. The portion sizes were rather small so although at first the prices seemed very reasonable, they weren't really once you saw the size of what was on your plate. The atmosphere in the pub is not particularly welcoming or cosy. And it would appear that the pub hasn't seen any fresh paper, paint, or carpets since possibly the 1980s - or maybe even before. It is very tired looking and dated, to the point of shabby. Not the kind of place we want to relax in after work! When we went to pay, we got a bit of a shock when the pub lady quipped, "Cash only". She obviously saw the look of surprise on our faces so rather quickly and defensively added, "There are signs!". Really? She said there was one on the front door. We must have missed it especially as the door was open when we arrived. The lady said cards were too expensive. For HER obviously. We subsidised that about tenfold by paying £1.65 service charge to be allowed the 'privilege' of getting OUR money. Other businesses who don't like credit card charges will enforce a minimum spend (we spent in excess of £20 so that wouldn't have helped her), and/or charge the customer a small fee of about 50p. That would have covered her costs, and would have been much fairer and reasonable for us.Anyway, it would have been very helpful to have known the cash only rule beforehand and avoid the £1.65 service charge the cash machine charges! There could have been a sign displayed in a prominent place, or perhaps noted as a footnote on the menus, or maybe the staff could have told us before we ordered our drinks, or maybe even later after we ordered our food. But, nobody said a word.....The way it was we were 'trapped' and had no choice but to use that expensive cash point machine! We also find it odd that a remote pub, in the middle of nowhere, miles from banks and cash points that don't fleece the customer, don't take cards. How archaic but then I guess that is commensurate with the décor. We won't return.

We stopped for food on our way home from Lincoln. It was pretty quiet but still early for an evening meal. We chose what we wanted but when we went to order found that they don't accept cards you have to have cash or use the cash machine which has a charge. We then waited quite a long time for the food even though it wasn't busy but when it finally arrived it was nice and we did all enjoy it, just a shame it took so long.

Absolutely terrible! Would like to say that we stopped for a cheap meal, and that we enjoyed it, honestly the pie tasted like it had been made with Sunday left overs! It was so overlooked and tough! The sweets are all bought in, not homemade, and the crime brûlée, which should have been topped with sugar and blow torched, well u either have a very inexperienced chef in the kitchen or just cant be bothered! The place is one of the worst meals I have had, wish we never stopped there! If you like dining 80's style and have no idea about food them this is for u! If u actually want to have a nice meal then please go somewhere else! U have been warned!!

Decided to have an early meal with friends in this newly decorated pub/restaurant so arrived at 6.30pm. We were told we could have our choice of seating as they weren't busy, and in fact there was only 2 diners in the restaurant. The new look of the place is very clean and bright and a vast improvement on when we last visited some years ago. We ordered our meal but by 8.00pm had to ask the waitress if we'd been forgotten as our main meal had not arrived! We waited another 15 minutes and the food arrived. My colleagues' fish was apparently ok but my lasagne was almost inedible. It was literally baked on to the dish, dry with just cheese on the top and I have no idea what the meat was, but from the colour of it it seemed to be corned beef! The garlic bread that came with it was so hard I could not break it without risking emergency dental treatment. We left at 9.00pm and won't be returning. Great shame.

However, the clean, cosy decor gave the place a warm, comfortable appeal. Our meals of steak and ale pie, chips and fresh vegetables was hot and tasty. They were also filling and were conveniently priced. Our meals and drinks being served by friendly staff who made us feel welcome. The White Swan hosts level 5 food hygiene and caters for homemades specials, vegeterian meals, traditional Sunday lunch and sizzling steaks and can seat upto 60 heads, which helps to cater for parties or groups. It also caters for the disabled, with a disabled toilet and ramp access. We will bear the White Swan in mind as we have ventures in Lincolnshire and will be passing through Dunham on occasions.

Two of us stopped here for a quick dinner whilst we were passing one evening. There was plenty of parking out the front and a large beer garden to the side. A little tricky to get a pushchair in as there are steps and no ramp. The menu has a good choice of typical pub meals, most of which are relatively cheap at £7.99. The quality isn't sensational but we received two very decent meals, with no major complaints (chips were a little greasy). For what you pay, you can't really complain. Drinks are a little on the expensive side, with most ales costing £3.00. The biggest disappointment was the fact that you couldn't pay by card. This is quite literally the first food establishment I have ever not been able to pay by card at. The excuse is that the pub is in an area of poor mobile phone reception, though I'm sure card machines were in use well before mobile phones became popular (plug into a landline?). The alternative is to withdraw cash from a machine in the side bar, at £1.50 a go. It sounds petty, but the inability to pay by card was a real let down and if I was passing without cash again, I probably wouldn't stop. If card machine rental/overheads are a factor, maybe they could consider reducing their staff numbers? I counted a total of 8 waitresses, 2 of whom split their time between waitressing and working behind the bar. For a small venue with a total of around 55 seats (of which only 9 were filled at the time) this seemed a bit excessive. There was almost a 1:1 customer-staff ratio and even then no-one was prepared to bring menus to our table and we had to order food at the bar. That said, all members of staff were relatively pleasant. The toilets looked and smelt very clean, which is always a good sign in somewhere that prepares food. Incidentally, I think they are rated 5 on the Food Hygiene Standards guide.

Stopped for a drink on a Sunday and was very pleasantly surprised. This pub took me back to the seventies in a very nice way, the decor and layout was reminiscent of pubs as they were back then, similar to your aunties front room. Seating in the bar was intimate in a nice way, as everyone was friendly. Staff were very welcoming and lovely. We didn't have time for food, although what we saw looked very nice and the prices were very reasonable. The dining end of the pub was very large with plenty of room. Big car park with a large child friendly beer garden. We will call again.

Went for Sunday lunch with family. All the staff were brilliant and the atmosphere was good - nice to have a pianist playing while we ate. However the vegan version of the roast dinner wasn’t great. There was a nut roast listed on the website menu however when we got there it had been replaced by a different option. It was a spiced cauliflower patty which tasted good but didn’t fit on a roast dinner IMO. We were told that the mash wasn’t vegan so we would get extra roast potatoes instead, but we only got three small roasties each and when we queried this, we were told you usually only get two. The greens were inconsistent; I had a pile of kale while my cousin had green beans. The carrots and parsnips were rock hard (and cooked with honey so not truly vegan). The vegan dinner felt a bit measly compared to the others, with very little effort to substitute items or present a filling plate of food worth the price tag.

Birthday luncheon, we hadn't planned to come here, we met a butcher at Rutland show, he had just opened a bistro in Sherwood, unfortunately is was not open today. Being probably the hottest day of the year I did not want to travel too far, we have seen Launay's on a previous visit to Edwinstowe. We were the on dinners in the restaurant. I found the chairs a little too low and not quite supportive. Starters which we share were salmon wasabi pea puree and fennel citrus sperified balls, absolutely fantastic then chorizo cumberland and a wonderfully cooked egg. Mains, fried pulled pork and a sousvide steak, I had to try it because I sousvide at home, however I felt that it lacked taste and was a little dry. the tomato relish was pretty good, served in an old marmalade jar. dessert was to die for, basil cheesecake with micro lemon balm Definitely be back to ravage the a la carte menu
