We are regular visitors to White Stones and you are always guaranteed a good lunch. Staff are very friendly and helpful and there is always an interesting selection of specials as well as the main menu. The cakes are great, especially the Battenberg which is a thing of beauty! The café itself has a great atmosphere and a really lovely outdoor seating area. Booking is advised as it is very popular and always busy.

Popped in for coffee as we been here in the past (few years ago . ) It's a great venue with beautiful garden and artwork. However, the large cappuccino and americano coffee did not taste of coffee! Very disappointed. Mine tasted like warm milk. Won't be going back.

Fantastic place for lunch - we all really enjoyed our lunch - place was clean/really welcoming - a gem of a find. Staff were really friendly and very accommodating to our requests to slightly change a few things (salad instead of coleslaw, and requesting crispy bacon)!

Lovely cafe with fabulous decor. Daughters especially liked the denim cushions & coffee sack seat covers. We all had regular breakfast including best tasting mushroom I have ever eaten. Kind staff replaced my coffee for free after I accidentally put salt in instead of sugar.

I brought my 12yo daughter for a weekend away and we stayed in 'Sea'. I booked us both in for the mosaic workshop with David on Saturday and we had a fantastic experience, led by a very knowledgeable artist, and the end result was 2 pieces we were extremely happy with. The accommodation was perfect for our needs. Compact, but with everything we needed. The bed was comfortable and the whole unit was well thought through and was a good use of the space available. The host, David, was excellent regarding communication and ensuring we were happy. I will be returning with at least one of my other children for some awesome and valued one to one time. Highly recommend and the isle of Portland has many features for visitors which can be easily accessed from this lovely airbnb. Thanks David. We'll see you again.

On a recent visit to Portland I visited this most unique café. Only a small building from the front but what lies behind is unbelievable. The indoor area had old beams & really nice furniture. Through a small door it took you to a gem of a garden, full of seats & tables which were decorated in ceramics. Beautiful plants, shrubs & trees lining a small winding path. It was absolutely fantastic. What I must remember to review was the coffee & homemade cake’s we had were first class. We didn’t have any cooked food but what we saw coming out of the kitchen looked delicious. A big thank you to the owner’s/staff for being so friendly & helpful. Definitely well worth a visit.

The venue was highly recommended, and it was one of the hottest days in August. We noticed locals booking tables for lunch/tea, so it can't be bad. From the front it appears to be just another coffe shop, but it has a large seating room behind, and a superb garden set up as a grotto - lots of shade and shelter. The food was excellent, and the staff attentive and helpful. Looks like the proprietor is a local artist/sculptor and his son was on the counter. We even recovered a lost sun hat. On streett parking, or car park round the corner. The dogs were welcome. All in all a deserved winner. Keep up the good work. Thank you.

Had a lunch here and returned for coffee and cake. As I’m vegan I wasn’t hopeful looking at the online menu as it doesn’t mention vegan options and it mentions “no substitutions”. However, there were good choices. Vegan cheese to put in a panini or jacket tato. Choices (yes, choices!) of vegan cake. Reasonably priced. Lovely setting. The garden at the back is beautiful, tranquil and quirky. Lots of beautiful mosaic work to buy by artist David Nicholls. I had a vegan cheese and bean jacket which came with a lovely fresh dressed side salad. Possibly the best jacket tato I’ve ever had. Cooked in olive oil and sea salt with a lovely chewy skin. Also had an oat milk cappuccino (only mentions soya on the menu). Returned for the almond orange slice which was lush. The staff are very accommodating and friendly and the food was great.

I had a voucher for a cream tea so popped in to enjoy it! The scones were lovely and served warm with clotted cream but unfortunately despite them claiming they focus on local produce, the jam is Duerr’s (made in Manchester). Personally I feel this lets the place down as it isn’t difficult to source local jam and it isn’t costly. To say you focus on local produce (and art) but to offer little plastic tubs of jam like this is a disappointment! Other than that I liked it the cream tea.

White Stones is situated in Easton Square on the top of the island right next to the bus stops so perfect for both visitors and locals alike. They sell a wide range of drinks as well as cakes, panini's and sandwiches (and their cooked breakfasts are pretty special too!) The decor is what makes it special though - it show cases a lot of art work in a beautifully decorated environment. It's feels both modern and rustic all once. I like the quirky environment- it makes the cafe stand apart from others. The food is good however I feel that the prices are a little expensive in comparison to other cafes and bars that that sell similar food in the area.I definitely recommend visiting here if you want good decent food (although my husband wants to stress that one half of his brie and bacon panini was just bacon) and a chance to see some of the fantastic arts and crafts from the local area.

We stopped here for lunch, and were very glad we did. They have good sandwiches and delicious cakes. Also free wifi.

A great experience once again. 5th time at The Avenue and it never fails to deliver first class food and service. The students are a credit to the college. Their enthusiasm and attention to detail make the experience a real pleasure. We thoughally enjoyed the lunch and experience as usual and can't wait to return in the very near future.

Mixed review: A warm and friendly welcome, clean and tidy. Day one: breakfast was lovely, all appeared freshly cooked so it took a little longer, the food was nice and of great value. Feel like there was a whole can of beans for the 'beans on toast' and it was piping hot. The pot of tea was plentiful The 'coffee' milkshake was more like warm milk, not the best. Day two: ordered the thick shake this time - meant to be with ice cream and so thought that would make it cooler and tastier - wrong, it was the same as the previous visit with cream and sprinkles - not the best (if you want a nice thick iced coffee, visit the White Stones cafe). The food took a bit longer again as it was Sunday and busy. The mushroom on toast was cold but we were on a time crunch, so we couldn't send it back. The taste was nice, just cold and the black pudding was a bit on the rubbery side. Everyone else enjoyed theirs.

We stopped by Portland as tourists from the USA. We got a scone, slice of cake, and two coffees, and they were some of the best we’ve had in Europe! The staff were friendly and helpful too.

Easily accommodated 8 of us on a busy wet day. Great breakfast all around, milkshakes amazing. Service friendly and speedy. Can’t get better value.
