Wow! We pre ordered our main meal which was venison Wellington. It was a very generous portion accompanied by plentiful vegetables and the best dauphinois potatoes I have ever had! Outstanding quality for money. Thank you Mark & Bev. Just delicious.

Great visit for Mothers Day,food was of a high standard and plenty of veg and trimmings available with the Sunday roast.A traditional pub where space is tight but comfortable at the same time. Cosy log fire.

We have been here countless times and will never stop coming! Amazing food, fresh, hot, plentiful and beautifully presented. Never fails to be a wonderful meal and the waiting staff are friendly and welcoming every time.

Home cooked food, tastes absolutely beautiful. Portions are generous, and can’t talk highly enough of the effort they make to produce a beautiful, tasty meal. Tops all restaurants for Sunday dinner, excited to enjoy an evening meal there one evening.

My husband and I have been going here for Sunday dinner quite often over the past year. I’ve got to say, it is always excellent and amazing value for the quality. It has a real ‘homely’ feel to the pub and the cooking which we love. It’s small and quaint, but perfect in every way in our opinion! :-)

Quite a nice pub. I enjoyed the service whilst stopping in Tamworth for a family reunion and would come again.

so i was greated by tom houston and he was delightful. service was quick and drinks were out fast. althought the drinks didnt contain ice. they were quite warm. then the food came out and it tasted quite yummy until i found a toe nail in my mash potato. i called tom over and he apoliseged for this mistake and added another one for extra flavour. service was 10/10 from tom houston and i will definitly be back soon! thanks a lot

The pheasant with mushrooms and a brandy sauce melted in the mouth, my husband tried the burger. A healthy salad made you feel less guilty for enjoying a generous portion of chips, onion rings and the succulent burger topped with bacon and cheese. A friend also enjoyed the sea trout in white wine sauce, again beautifully made and delicious. We are ALWAYS pleased when we visit the white lion. A gem not to be missed.

As always the food at the white lion is superb. The chicken with haggis and a whiskey sauce was delicious, and the partridge divine. Thanks Bev and Mark; you are both treasures!

We love it here - we have been many times over the last few years as couples, groups, friends and every time is brilliant. The staff are great; the ambience is nice and relaxed. The food is just amazing, fresh, tasty and plentiful every single time. The game is something you have got to try - I can happily say I will try anything this menu has to offer as I am confident it won’t disappoint!

Eaten here many times, good food, well cooked, varied menu and specials -you definitely need to book. The food reception area is a little cluttered/chaotic and looks like the bar area needs a good tidy up but this doesn’t affect the food/service. Would recommend trying...

I would not recommend this pub at all. We had booked a christmas lunch there Saturday night what a disaster. The staff where very rude and unhelpful. The food was cold. didnt get food the same time. My friend found plastic in her food and nothing was done. I sent my food back as i had my meal but my freinds where still waiting for theres for about 15mins then mine went cold. I asked for my money back and was told i had to get it off some other person as she gave my meal to someone else. I dont know her name but she was wearing glasses and very rude.THIS PUB IS A TOTAL JOKE.

Four visits in a row we've been presented with bills that have been wrong. It's always been on the drinks. Also have 2 separate groups of friends who have had the same issue.Last Friday the food was unusually slow. I very politely mentioned this to the waitress who reacted in a slightly unfriendly way. I'll leave it at that.The kitchen clearly is well staffed as the food is always excellent. I've had enough of bills that are consistently wrong with drinks being added on, whether it be an extra pint or larger measure of wine than ordered.

Booked in for Sunday Lunch with my Dad and some family friends. Thoroughly enjoyed my venison, whilst my samples of the other dishes told me that the steak pie and the grilled swordfish would have been great menu choices too. Everything freshly cooked and piping hot with generous portions, indeed perhaps too generous. The pub is nicely decorated with attentive staff and comfortable seating. There are two reasons for me not making it a 5 star review and both won't matter for many people. Of the normal draught beers they sell, the best one, Tribute was unavailable. The Pedigree and Black Bull are not a patch on Cornwallis finest. The other is the time for the food to arrive. Without us having had a starter to share it would have been too long. It makes for a nice relaxing evening, but could spoil your night out. We noticed they were advertising for kitchen staff so perhaps that explains it. Having said that, when the food arrived the time put into making it shone through in the quality. Having discovered it thanks to a neighbour's recommendation, we'll be back!

Fantastic Sunday lunch , it didn’t seem like a pub lunch , it was like a good home cooked Sunday lunch. I had lamb , partner had beef could not fault it . The owner Bev was very welcoming to us , as we had not been before . The whole staff were great . Was a lovely family run pub and that’s what it felt like . Can’t wait till next month as this will be one of our locals . 5 stars heartily recommended. Al & Al

Super, classic Sunday lunch with meat choices (and fish/veggie alternatives) served in a good village setting. The staff were all friendly and attentive. All the food was expertly and freshly prepared (I recommend the wonderful, home-made, large yorkshires),including two potato styles with a good variety of seasonal fresh veg.

It’s taken far too long for us to try the White Lion despite living not far away. The only negative was our table being late and eating quite late, however it was worth the wait.

Despite this place not being far from us, it's been nearly a year since we last visited, and as we enjoyed it last time we booked ourselves a table for a meal.

Lovely location and a proper local, country pub. A level (or two above Gastro pub.) Great food cosy quirky split level dining room. Attentive staffs, although our server was young she could not have been more friendly and sociable without being intrusive. Intuitive is how I would describe her. They had an excellent blackboard specials menu with three fresh game options. I was spoilt for choice. My Spanish Colleague was so impressed he offered to pay the bill. Being gallant I let him.

I’m visiting the area for work, so thought I’d try The White Lion for food rather than have beans on toast in my hotel.

Visited with Friends on Saturday. All of our meals were fab couldn't complain about anything. Plenty to chose from, home cooked food and great meals something different from the specials board. Was looking forward to going after our last visit was over a year ago and it didn't disappoint. Service was great too. Highly recommend and will try and visit more often. Thank you

A main course steak is served as a 5 course. First the steak then the chips, then the peas and so on. Land lady comes with plenty of attitude. it comes across that she is doing us a big favor. We have had this situation on a number of occasions, and no longer go.

Second time we have been on a weekday evening - and it was very busy, which is a good sign! Food - for all 4/5 of us - was excellent both times, including game and gammon. Delicious desserts, also. Recommended - but do book!

Just been for a meal here and the food was great, the timings where great, the people are great but! I poured my pregnant wife a glass of water and there was a bug ( silver fish) in the pre filled water bottle, when I had approached who I assumed to be the manager she had first said it was a crack in the glass ( as it was near the edge) then I picked it out and showed her, with no apology she had picked it off me and said “ must be a bit of lemon”...... I was looking for no more than an apology but discarded my comments and walked away.

Great meal as always and 2 happy waitresses added to a great night out. A special meal was superbly cooked and a good selection of vegetables/salads and nice chips. Service, Food and Value... 5 stars

You got lots of veg the beef was rare and cool, place was a bit dusty. fly in the vinegar bottle, staff was nice, bit over priced for what you got I would not go again

Spent nearly 200 pounds tonight the food was great as always . Pity the customer service didn’t match we eat here sometimes would eat here more if we were made more welcome it appears if you aren’t a local or a regular you are treated completely differently . My sister made the comment no wonder so many local pubs are closing if they don’t make people from out of the village more welcome . I don’t think we will return

I have never been disappointed by this place. It is a well-run family business. The staff are brilliant and the food is great - good wholesome well-cooked and presented food - not Michelin standards but excellent just the same. Good atmosphere and gets booked up so book well ahead. Caters for most dietary requirements

Visited this charming pub for lunch yesterday. What a gem! The staff were courteous and friendly. There was a choice of roasts including beef, pork and chicken. The food was served well and absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was cosy and friendly and the prices were very reasonable. Thank you for a very enjoyable lunch.

My wife and I have eaten here a few times now, the food is beautifully cooked, fresh and plentiful. The fresh battered cod is an absolute must.

What a lovely surprise to find this fantastic pub, serving delicious home cooked food. Friendly staff, nice wine and beer. Sunday lunch was delicious, unfortunately I was too full for pudding......but other members of our family did and enjoyed every mouthful. We shall definitely return!!

Visited here for Sunday lunch today and can only describe it as superb. The food was genuinely homemade and 100% fresh. The beef was roasted perfectly and the veg & gravy was so tasty. Lovely people, great service and a good price. Will definitely be visiting again.

We found this pub on tripadvisor as we were making our way home after a weekend away. We were made to feel very welcome the minute we walked in, even with a one year old having a tantrum as she was hungry.

I made a last minute booking for a table for a Saturday evening. I wasn't expecting to get a table, but they managed to get me a table roughly around the time i wanted my reservation.

Great food, have to wait a bit longer and costs bit more but worth it. Good sized portions. Lovely small room with friendly staff. Thoroughly recommend!

My friend recommended The White Lion at Harlaston as i was looking for somewhere to take my parents for their anniversary.The fillet medallions were probably one of the best steaks I've ever had. My dad said his Seabass was the best pub meal he's ever had. The place is small but has a lovely atmosphere. Staff are friendly and attentive. Unspoilt by progress. Definitely returning to this place

Cosy, friendly staff. I went in for drinks after a local walk. I'm not sure if there are two rooms but they looked cosy.

I visited here with my business partner on the 3rd February this year. They were fully booked, but thankfully accommodated us later in the evening, after we explained we were travelling for 3 hours and were staying down the road at the Hayloft in Haunton Village (Also worth looking at for accommodation if needed).

The White Lion is on the small side, so do book before you go. The food here is very good. The service was excellent, and if they know in time will look after the gluten free folk. The Sunday menu is what you would expect, but go through the week then it is very good. In the past I have had partridge and pheasant, the fish dish is top notch as well. The Staff could not have done anymore for us, in general a very good place to eat. Is there a downside, then it is only a small one. There is no proper high chair for small children, but they do have a child seat that ties onto a chair.

Service was slow. Over an hour for Sunday lunch to be served despite it being quiet. Meat dish was bland. Veg fresh and well cooked.Glass hygiene leaves plenty to be desired.

Went with friends. Lovely atmosphere. Had a little wait for the table but staff attentive. Decided to try the partridge as I've never had before, it was delicious and the staff were happy to go through and Discuss the difference between pheasant and partridge etc. Only thing I would have liked a like more choice on the main menu but it did make me try something different off the specials! Just told my husband and now he'd like to go.

Excellent freshly cooked food at reasonable prices. The menu is not that extensive but there is a reasonable choice of dishes on offer including specials. My advise would be to reserve a table to avoid disappointment as this pub is out in the sticks you may find find that you have made a wasted journey.The staff always seem very plesent and friendly.My only slight concern is that the resurant is a little cramped plus it can get a little warm in there when eating.other than that this is one of our favourite places to eat even though it's a good 20 miles away from where we live we find the 30 min drive worth while to visit the white lion.

After such a good night last year we chose to hold our staff Xmas meal at the white lion again and as usual they delivered on everything.There aren't many places I have been where they can get meals out to large groups of people on time and hot, Bev, Mark and the staff nailed it again for us with all 30 people served at the same time with tasty piping hot home cooked food.Everyone of the staff and their partners loved the food and really enjoyed the evening.I just wanted to say thank you very much from everyone as we had a fantastic time as usual. We were recommended to come here by a variety of folks in a village a few miles away . Visited and ate here a couple of weeks ago to test drive it and wow their swordfish steak was a joy to behold!Visited today with a large friends / family group to celebrate the old mans 80th and again we were treated to fab surroundings and fab food! Our waiter was a great mix of friendly and efficient too ! The landlady bent over backwards to ensure the visit was a success ... thanks to all!

I had the duck spring rolls followed by partridge wrapped in bacon, both of which were first class. My wife had breaded mushrooms followed by hake in crispy breadcrumbs. Loved the mushrooms and enjoyed the hake even more. A reasonably priced fleurie sealed our enjoyment. Service was good. Will return.

We went on a recommendation. The pub itself is lovely and the staff very welcoming. The food fantastic though we had a 7 year old in our dining party so booked at 6.45 and didn't get starter till after 7.45 then a main after 8.30 ish. The food itself was fantastic with a mixed party eating fish and steaks all cooked to perfection. Unfortunately no room for dessert though the temptation was there the stomach protested.Will definitely be back to try the Sunday lunch but will make a lot earlier reservation

What a lovely time we had here. Lovely village , with a lovely pub . Food was amazing , I had the chicken roast dinner my husband had the roast beef dinner , my husband said it was the best beef dinner he had ever had (including mine ha ha ) we did have a longer wait than we would of liked , but it certainly was worth the wait . The staff were so friendly and polite. I higher recommend the white lion for Sunday lunch . We will be returning very soon

We went on a Saturday night - we had booked a table. It was a lovely evening so we sat outside for a few drinks. Whilst over-nighting in Harlaston, we visite for an early evening meal and were delighted with the experiencing. Situated in a lovely little village the pub restaurant is charming with a great ambience. The food was brilliant with huge portions - the pie almost stumped the menfolk - which is unheard of! The goats cheese tart was exceptional and was one of the best veggie options we have had. All cooked to order, so be patient - it is worth it. I you do have room for a pub The Eton Mess could not be bettered - absolutely scrummy!Would not hesitate to recommend but be sure to book - its a popular venue.

Delicious Sunday lunch, and not microwaved rubbish. Good portion sizes.Staff were so obliging and friendly.We were sat outside, as I had my dog with me.It did go a little windy. Having seen the amazing reviews for the white lion decided to give it a try, and are we pleased we did, we visited on a wed evening not thinking we would need to book, however their reputation precedes them and it was full, we were told we could eat in the bar , which was not a problem, we had the steak and ale pie which was fantastic, as we eat out quite often, to find a place like this is great, the portions are enormous and so tasty, we will be back but we will remember to book next time .

The White Lion serves delicious food. As a special treat it is definitely my top place in Staffordshire. I hear it does great Sunday Lunches too.
