Only popped in for a quick drink. Although it was busy, service was fast and staff were very friendly. Liv, who served us behind the bar, was lovely and chatty and made us feel very welcome.

We came at a lunchtime in the week. Food came out quickly and piping hot. It was delicious. We waited a little time for the 2 drinks we ordered on the app but that was our only niggle

Waited an age for 2 meals. Peppercorn Sauce ordered and paid for, never arrived. Cabbage under cooked. Pie was tasteless.

Went to the Bowling Green with friends on Saturday . Service was excellent frequently checked up on asking if everything was ok with food which was high quality. Followed by great music from monkey business a great evening had! Definitely recommend

Visited earlier in the week and had a wonderful experience served by liv and emma both very attentive! The lamb steak off the specials menu was top tier , will be back again!

Poor food quality, very basic considering prices, Luke warm at best. Half of food came after an hour wait. Rest of food followed after 1st lot had finished. Childrens food came missing chips. Staff didn't care, put food down and left. Felt very let down, was out for my mums birthday as a treat, could of done better at home.

Came few weeks ago food was completely different had a Mixed Grill on both occasions tonight was a chef who clearly just wants to go home, gammon and sausage was awful, steak badly cooked, and when have feed back had nothing in follow-up. Definitely one to drive past for the time being nothing good to write here and I do give praise when it's due, but unfortunately this is wholly absent.

I’ve been going to the bowling green for years but I am quite upset with how I was treated on Friday night. Decided to go for a drink after a long week with my friends, get to the till to order and who I assume is the manager asks for my ID. I, being almost 22 years old, of course oblige as I know I have a baby face but from inspection the man decides that this ID isn’t mine and doesn’t look like me. Granted, I have dark hair in the photo as I had a phase where I dyed it black but it is still obviously me! He refused to let me have a glass of wine and said if I wanted a drink I’d have to go home and get my passport. I tried to offer alternative ways like bank cards, photo evidence but he wouldn’t have any of it and he was quite rude and blunt about it. Anyway we moved on from this and I got a soft drink but as my friend ordered two alcoholic drinks for my other friend outside, the man continued to tell me that if he caught me drinking anything but my soft drink he would take all of our drinks off of us and give no refund. At this point I felt quite upset and embarrassed and felt this was unnecessary! I understand the challenge 25, having worked in hospitality myself for over 6 years, but I would never have handled a situation like this. Just for reference I’m 21, turning 22 this year and have never been questioned on my own ID before. I understand the man may have just been doing his job but I felt this was really disappointing and it unfortunately placed a downer on the evening.

Popped in with friends for a few drinks and a bite to eat. Liv (I think? I asked too many names and didn’t remember everyone’s!) was really helpful and chatty, our server was Emma and was helpful and courteous and we asked her for the chef’s name too as our food was hot and tasty - so thank you, Dan.

Never thought I'd find a pub that couldn't cook peas but this is it! Completely inedible. Very average meal at best, lovely staff (couldn't fault the front of house staff) but waited an hour for our food which was warm when it turned up. Cheesecake for dessert was hot on one side cold on the other! At least we saw through it and chuckled about it but that could have been the effect of the volume of drinks we had waiting for our food.

We've been coming here for our post-football Thursday night beers and food for years and couldn't go anywhere else. Great range of beers including cask ales, good food and really friendly staff. Plenty of outdoor seating for the warmer summer nights, too.

I went alone one evening as I understood the Bowling Green was under a new management team plus a rumour it was about to be refurbished. Staff were welcoming, friendly & enthusiastic about the pending transformation of the pub in time for Christmas!! They already have a relaxed atmosphere now so all is exciting. I look forward to returning next month...Best Wishes to all at the Bowling Green!!

The food is fine, the menu is pretty standard fare, nothing fancy or unusual. I'm not a fan of ordering food at the bar, there's always a queue, since you're competing with customers who are just ordering drinks. I couldn't use the app to order, it was only offering collection for some reason. You also need to validate your parking inside on a tablet near the bar.

Disappointed by the food We ordered to be told 45 minutes wait at the bar which was fine but no food after 45 minutes so we asked a male staff to find out for us to be told it’s an hour. I replied to him no we were told 45 minutes. Food arrived 2 minutes later and it was terrible. The side order was awful, the mushroom looked like it had been dropped on the floor the tomato was burnt and whatever the onion rings were was just a pile of burnt batter. To say the least we will not be returning again very disappointed

Booked a table for 5 at 1915, it was busy arrived at 1900 and told the staff I had booked a table ordered a drink and sat down, the music was really loud and couldn't hear my family speak as the music was overbearing, however went to order food at 1930 and was told that it would be over an hour to get food, we had 2 young children so we decided not to order as it would be too late for them, why didn't the staff say there was a long wait before we sat down, so I booked a table for no reason very disappointed

We visited on a very busy Friday evening, and the pub was full inside and out. The staff did an amazing job serving everyone at the bar. Kieran, the relief manager, was very helpful with our table reservation, and we received great service and food from Millie. Well done to all the staff.

Food was delivered to our home. We had pie veg and mash. The pastry was very hard,did my best to munch through it but not pleasant.Outer edge slightly burnt. Veg not advertised as aldonte but even the cabbage is hard to eat. Really dissapointing and a total waste of money. Had to leave half of it.

We were served by Emily and Millie on a Sunday evening. They were really friendly and helpful. The Sunday roast was delicious in a beautiful setting and clean pub. My growing son loved the steak too! Our children ate well and we found it very relaxing too. A great find!

Em, Jp, Liv, Matt and Kate! Absolute stars! Couldn't thank them enough as we were a massive group and they took their time to check up on us and was very attentive to the allergy on our table! First time I've EVER been to The Bowling Green, and I was scared at first because I'd only heard poor things, but glad I didn't listen to them. Thank you all as this made me (as a person suffering with mental health problems) more comfortable.

The greeting from all the team was excellent instantly made me feel welcome and relaxed . The service was friendly and quick without feeling rushed. Never pick up the phone called multiple times with no answer

Lovely place, looks fantastic from outside. Lots of parking and mixed between pay and register (free parking if a patron). Bit dodgy trying to get out of the carpark back on to the road as people drive around the roundabout the pub is sat on, like F1 drivers! We arrived today. Friday, just after 2pm. The place wasn’t overly busy, nice atmosphere although the music was unnecessarily loud! Ordered food and drink at the bar. Our drinks arrived although it took 32 minutes for our food to arrive. Who knows how long it would have took on a very busy day! Fish and chips, mushy peas and T-sauce. Mushy peas were cold, the chips were overcooked and consisted of those little hard bits which have lost any potato content and crisped others! The fish was sat on top of the handful of these hard cool chips. The fish was lovely! I wish I had ordered that on its own! First time here for food. If this is the best the chef can do with this most basic of meals, then it’s unlikely we would spend more money on other menu offerings. Bit disappointed guys! I’ve been watching the evolution of this place and the refurb’ etc for months! Our excitement to come and see the place and share our lunchtime, fell well short of how nice the place looks!

Food was brilliant and our server John Paul made sure we received our food while it was very busy. Just the fact he made sure we were looked after and not overlooked made our night.

It was good Millie was particularly attentive. Food would have got five stars, but overcooked my steak. Millie got it changed with little fuss.
