The pub was freezing and when asked the staff said the heating was on fully and when I touch the radiator by the toilets it wasn’t on at all. The meal in total took 2.5 hours to complete from start to finish. Had to ask 4 times for the food and my son’s order got missed and then was incorrect and had to be reckoned which delayed everyone eating. The staff apologised but nothing was done about the delay in food and patience was waining.

Took a friend for lunch and had a lovely experience. Emma was very friendly and attentive. A wonderful pub, with great atmosphere, and hardworking welcoming staff.

Brilliant service and atmosphere, food was amazing too. Charlotte was also amazing and ensured we had a really good time.

Really nice and cosy pub in Litchfield, staff are really kind, the young guy at the till allowed us to try some beers before choosing them, all waiters were smily and lovely, I also saw one of them cleaning properly all menus which is a really good thing. Food and drinks are great and atmosphere is relaxed with a nice music playlist on the background.

The staff were all really friendly and positive, even though it was really busy. The food took a while to come out, but we were told it would be a while so that was ok. It was really nice when it came out though so it was worth the wait. Freshly cooked and tasted great. Hats off to the staff for being so great when it was so busy.

Pre booked a table and ordered from the Sunday lunch menu, Food was well cooked and didn't take long to be served. Relaxing place to eat and drink, Nice improvement since the refurbishment. Nice, polite hard working staff. Will visit again.

Servers and bartenders were well mannered and approachable, food was delicious and perfectly cooked even the two steaks we ordered which doesn’t usually happen .

Disaster at the bowling green today 1 1/2 hours wait for food it arrived cold and bland .. bar staff were serving whoever they looked at first with no thought of who was actually next..frustrating to say the least not a good start to the new year ..

When you see a venue refurbished you sometimes believe better things are coming, menu, service, food quality, atmosphere, but on this occasion it’s gone backwards. We booked as a party of ten, excited about the evening as we’d not seen each other for a while. We had to find a member of staff to alert them to our presence, we were shown the table and left there, as if we’d come for a breakfast buffet at a premier inn. We got back up to get our drinks as table service was as scarce as the atmosphere. We looked at the menus and then had to go to the bar, and order the food, once the order was placed we then waited 45 minutes for the starters, bear in mind, it was 6pm and empty. We had over fried calamari which had more batter than calamari, plus it was cold. We finished our starters and waited for our plates to be cleared, this never came and our mains were served around our starter plates, only then were the plates taken away. The steaks were overcooked, chips were cold and the other mains were below standard of a beefeater. Again, we finished our mains and the plates remained, whilst we waited for our deserts, which took a further 45 minutes, we received no table checks, considering we spent over £500! The price didn’t match the food or service……not a great re-opening at all.

Despite booking a table for 5 people in advance (with a deposit!) for the Boxing Day Festive Menu, on arrival the table was only placed for 4 and we had to wait for another to be made up. We were put in corner and seemed to be forgotten about! Upon ordering we were told that they had run out of some of the menu choices....then the wait for food was ridiculously long. People were walking in off the street and being served before us. 2 of the main meals - when it eventually arrived - had to be sent back - medium rare steak was burnt to a crisp and cold and couldn't be cut with a knife - not even a steak knife was offered! The table was booked for 1.30pm until 3.45pm...at 4.30pm we were just having our desserts brought to us!! Upon paying for the meal, despite raising a concern about the experience with the staff member, there was no offer of an apology at all. The whole Boxing Day lunch was ruined and we had relatives who had travelled from Liverpool to join us - it was a complete debacle!! So, no, I won't be recommending The Bowling Green to any of my friends.

We went to the bowling green on 28/12/24 and we were very pleased with out food and the service from Charlotte was excellent

After a difficult first visit we tried again and the service was first class, Charlotte was wonderful. Food arrived quickly and was very tasty.

Avoid if you like the old Doom Bar they used to serve here, now just hoppy pale ale insipid stuff, sadly

18 months ago the place was a bit of a dump. Now it is under new management it’s a great place to go. The food was delicious and was of a very high standard. The decor and atmosphere warm and inviting making it a perfect place to get comfy and enjoy the great food and drink.

Absolutely amazing we had our work Christmas meal here, food was delicious and lots of it, staff very friendly and attentive, will definatly visit again.

Visited for a work Christmas Lunch, decor was nice as has recently been refurbished but the service was hit and miss. On arrival there was nobody to show us to our table, several groups were wandering around trying to work out where to sit, by the time we were seated and the first course arrived nearly half an hour had elapsed. Nobody asked us if we wanted drinks, bar was rammed so had to download and order from the app and it took 15-minutes for the drinks to arrive. Foor was nice and decent value for the money. Can't help feeling sorry for the staff who were racing around serving customers, clearly understaffed which is the norm nowdays.

Would not recommend. Burger was over cooked, portions were small, shepherds pie had next to no meat. Fine for a drink not to eat

I had booked a table the week before for 8 people at 1.30 p.m., coming straight from an 8 mile walk. I explained that at the time of booking. We arrived in good time at 1.20 p.m. However, when we went to the bar to order we were told that there would be an hour’s wait for food. So, being quite hungry after a long walk, we immediately left. We were all very disappointed and certainly won’t be looking to come back again and would not recommend you to anyone else. Indeed, probably quite the opposite!

I attended here with my partner and I am appalled by the attitude and the snottiness of the general manager she was very short and sarcastic with her words and the way she spoke to us, she spoke to the staff with ill manners and was sloppy with the way she portrayed herself around the area, I do not recommend as we was awaiting our food for a while and there was very little care from the manager, overall a bad experience and I highly think that if you’re unable to show a good and positive manner at work then you shouldn’t be working there.

Only popped in for a quick drink. Although it was busy, service was fast and staff were very friendly. Liv, who served us behind the bar, was lovely and chatty and made us feel very welcome.

Nice coffee, small selection of lite bites which let it down for 5 stars. Staff are friendly and swift service. Lots of parking and outdoor seating.

Emily brought the food out with a beautiful attitude and the food was also amazing

We didn’t have food so I can’t rate that. Went in for drinks and the service was extremely good. We were generally looked after by Lilly and Emma, they kept our table clean with taking empty glasses away promptly as we were a decent sized party, plus drinks brought to us once ordered at the bar. Very friendly service.

The staff behind the bar didn’t know what they were doing apart from one gentleman (name unknown). Yes they were extremely busy but we had to wait 40 minutes for our meal!! When it arrived there was a lot to be desired!! I have never been given a soft overcooked carrot before and the pastry on the pie was extremely hard! Never returning!!

We were there for a business lunch, we ordered from the set lunch menu as this is usually served quicker but we had to wait over an hour for the food to arrive & had to eat quickly as needed to get back to work. Food was nicely presented but my Ciabatta was as hard as rock ☹️ they may have spent money on refurbishing but still short staffed as before

Popped in to see the Bowling Green’s new refurb & had an amazing night! The drinks were excellent, they even had offers in the cocktails & had a lovely atmosphere! Will definitely be returning

All the staff were honestly so so lovely, they couldn’t do enough for us. We have booked in to come for our annual Christmas dinner and we are all looking forward to it.

I and my husband decided to visit bowling green after it has been refurbished. We so glad we have done it, it really has upgraded! Also we really want to praise to our server - Charlotte- she was phenomenal, she checked on us to make sure we are okay and happy with our food and also she cleared our table often. She is hard working girl! We really hope it stays that way. Only downside is the drinks- they are slow with the drinks and they do need training on how to carry the drinks and serve them. Otherwise it was a beautiful evening!

First time visiting the Bowling Green, went to the Wreath Making evening. Lovely evening & food was excellent & the staff all very welcoming. Would definitely recommend visiting. Thank you Lily & your team.

States in open on Google. Fencing up arround the pub but had a side gate open and people smoking outside so persumed it was open. Went in to a right moody woman. We won't be visiting when it opens or recommending

Popped in for a quick lunch, to see the pub was closing for a refurbishment. How exciting. The team, although very busy in their preparations, were amazing. The manager Lily, was the light at the end of or tunnel.

When booking the table we were not told that the pub would be shutting and staff were told that this would be for a big party and a birthday. Menu was limited because of this & only certain members of staff were helpful - there was an older lady who was quite abrupt with members of the party and unhelpful but all younger staff were really helpful & couldn’t do enough. Meals were only just warm as though they had been sitting & 2 were sent back because they were cold - If we were told that the pub would be shutting in days time then we could have managed our expectations but this was not the case.

THE LIGHT AT THE END OF OUR TUNNEL. We went to the Bowling Green last night following a very disappointing visit to the Hedgehog a few minutes away. (See my other review for the Hedgehog). Anyway I would just like to thank Jordan and Tori for turning our night around. The Food was good, nice and hot, all of our choices were available and the friendly service was much appreciated. We visited for the second time recently for a Sunday lunch with friends. This was our first roast dinner here and, both being vegetarian, were glad of the Mushroom and Spinach wellington offer. The menu advertised all roasts as having 'roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding'. However, on arrival our friend with the meat roast had all the trimmings and it looked great. The veggie roast was not a roast at all... It was a pie with boiled potatoes and boiled vegetables. When I asked the server about this we were told that the Wellington was a vegan option and didn't come with these... But we could spend another £6 odd to have them. I pointed out that the menu states that all options came with the roast style trimmings and, after calling out the false advertising, we were offered a Yorkie. As a vegetarian it's really annoying in pubs when you're treated differently... I can't believe that there isn't a roast potato offer at the least! Service was fine and ghost ship on tap was fantastic, but don't come here for a veggie Sunday lunch, it's disappointing.

I went alone one evening as I understood the Bowling Green was under a new management team plus a rumour it was about to be refurbished. Staff were welcoming, friendly & enthusiastic about the pending transformation of the pub in time for Christmas!! They already have a relaxed atmosphere now so all is exciting. I look forward to returning next month...Best Wishes to all at the Bowling Green!!
