The Bowling Green in Lichfield

Lovely place, looks fantastic from outside. Lots of parking and mixed between pay and register (free parking if a patron). Bit dodgy trying to get out of the carpark back on to the road as people drive around the roundabout the pub is sat on, like F1 drivers! We arrived today. Friday, just after 2pm. The place wasn’t overly busy, nice atmosphere although the music was unnecessarily loud! Ordered food and drink at the bar. Our drinks arrived although it took 32 minutes for our food to arrive. Who knows how long it would have took on a very busy day! Fish and chips, mushy peas and T-sauce. Mushy peas were cold, the chips were overcooked and consisted of those little hard bits which have lost any potato content and crisped others! The fish was sat on top of the handful of these hard cool chips. The fish was lovely! I wish I had ordered that on its own! First time here for food. If this is the best the chef can do with this most basic of meals, then it’s unlikely we would spend more money on other menu offerings. Bit disappointed guys! I’ve been watching the evolution of this place and the refurb’ etc for months! Our excitement to come and see the place and share our lunchtime, fell well short of how nice the place looks!

Typical fast food pub. Had the Sunday carvery, and for the price won't have it again.

Food was brilliant and our server John Paul made sure we received our food while it was very busy. Just the fact he made sure we were looked after and not overlooked made our night.

Welcoming atmosphere, seconded by great food; the recently updated menu was outstanding and I will be coming back.

It was good Millie was particularly attentive. Food would have got five stars, but overcooked my steak. Millie got it changed with little fuss.

Popped in for a quick lunch the other day with a friend. Food was lovely and hot and our server Jordan was efficient and polite. The pub has a nice cosy feel to it-the refurb has done it justice. We’ll be back

Walked in lunchtime the place was cold. The jacket stayed on throughout our stay.Others put jackets back on. While waiting for food went and ordered a second round of drinks including a glass of house red. Didn’t have any!!! While waiting at the bar asked where our meals were? As we had been waiting some time. The meals arrived before I returned from the bar just about lukewarm. Very disappointed. Nothing like our previous experience.

Booked a table for 7pm for myself and my partner for our date night . Arrived at 7pm only to be told we had an hour - hour & half wait for food . No thanks !

Yes, very nice. I hadn't been there for a while. Looking forward to return sometime soon. My wife had booked the table for six of us, and there was a clip board at table, which we used to list our meal requests on, which we then took to bar to order - there was option to order with QR code from table, but non of us were au fair with this. Many happy returns -it was my wife's birthday! :-)

I attended The Bowling Green on Saturday evening with my partner. At the bar, I was welcomed by a member of staff named Connor, I hope he doesn't mind me mentioning him. However, he was so polite, welcoming, and friendly. The bar was a little busy at times, but he always acknowledged us while he was serving people before us. He is such a lovely lad, and kindness goes a long way! Thank you for the lovely service!

Came in with friends and had an amazing experience. I was looked after by Jordan who was very friendly and helped with everything we needed! Food was beautiful too!!

Emma was an absolute delight...was a nice Ray of sunshine to talk to and was prompt with her service. The surf and turf was absolutely divine and certainly satisfies my hunger cravings. Look forward to future visits for both food and the delightful service.

Just had a lovely meal at The Bowling Green. Two Steaks and a bottle of wine, terrific value. Steaks were cooked to perfection, two great plates of food. All the staff were very polite and helpful. Would definitely eat there again.

Lovely Sunday lunch with a good atmosphere. Pub was clean and tidy.

We went for a late Wednesday lunch with no booking. There was plenty of space to park but double check regarding price. Great outdoor space for warm days. There a roaring fire on one side of the pub. Lovely staffs as they call out to us when we walk in. We place our order at the pub with our table numbers. It was 20min wait and one of the order came out wrong, the manager apologise and we got a free beer as apology. It is a lovely place and we will go again. The only lack was when we finish our meal it did take 30min for them to notice before they took our plate away.

We came to the bowling green for a buffet after a baptism for my nephew, I am coeliac and your business was told in plenty of time of this. I came to the buffet to find no cross contamination methods in place and most food had been mixed with other foods via utensils. This isn’t good enough, I’ve worked in catering for 9 years of my life and have never experienced such a poor display of allergen prevention. This needs to be amended asap as you will end up making someone seriously sick. I thought it best to avoid all food entirely and eat when I got home.

Lily, the manager, was a great help to us whilst we were looking for a place to park our motorhome overnight. The pub was full when we went in for food and drink which is a testament to the quality of the pub, the food and its staff as a whole. Dog friendly. Will definitely be visiting there again.

Very rude manager, would not recommend

The manager at this pub is incompetent, she is quite rude, and sarcastic. I’ve had to get in touch higher up to complain, and looking at the reviews it’s not just me. I have never been here before, until today between 3-4PM - and I have given a date and time. Nothing wrong with the food, very lovely. As a brief explanation - I went to the bar to order food for 4 guests. In total 3 meals, 1 side and 1 drink. I paid for the food, but I thought it seemed too much. Checked prices on the menu, seemed to be overcharged. I went to the bar to query it, a young gentleman served me and was helpful. The food had been set up at a different table, and extras added on. I.E - two extra portions of chips. Prior to ordering - I ordered two beef lasagnas - and the lady who served me, I now presume to be the manager from her email response asked “Would you like chips with that” - so I said yes for both of them, assuming they came with the dish - Not making me aware that they were extra. The gentleman was proceeding with a refund for them and she approaches not me, but the one serving me and said “I put that through, what’s wrong with it?” In a rude manner, completely ignoring me, and overall a very confrontational attitude towards me despite only politely asking and not causing a fuss. I received an email this evening - explaining her disappointment with the feedback and wondering why I hadn’t made my issues aware whilst I was there. I made my issue aware with regards the added charges - but there seemed no point complaining to someone who would have had no intention of listening to the feedback about her customer service skills anyway - as perceived by the reviews, and her response to my concerns. Good food - just order from the app. Rude manager.

Party of 4 for mid week lunch. Three out of 4 meals excellent. Lasagne very disappointing. Small portion and over done. Service at bar very slow. Funeral party had arrived and were all ordering drinks and 2 bar staff were insufficient, so a lengthy wait to order food, which took an unacceptable 45 minutes to arrive. While I was at the bar asking where our meals were, a staff member had apologised for delay and told guests at table that meals were being plated. Decor and furnishing all good but we all felt room temperature was cool.

Lovely meal but need to get rid of burning candles or what ever you are using, found it very over powering and now got a migraine, even next day dont feel well because of it......need to think of people with Asthma or breathing problems, even manageress said she felt sick went in her office to escape it......

I had booked a table for 12 and paid a deposit, I came in during week to discuss that we would need a table near toilets due to additional needs, table confirmed at the back near toilets. Unfortunately we arrived and we were given a table in the middle of the pub, near the bar, away from toilets. The heating was broken and so we also all sat with coats on. No one contacted us to tell us about the change of table location or that heating was broken. I spoke to the barman who was actually quite helpful and he advised staff had known about heating from 12 that day, our table wasn't booked until 1.30. It was disappointing that we had not been notified of either change of table/heating problem. And the reason I had gone in earlier in the week was to establish if we could have a table near the toilets. Unfortunately I would not recommend for a group booking.

We were a party of twenty on the 29th December and were looked after by Charlotte, where we could not have been more pleased with the food served all together without any problems, we did have pre-order our requirements with being a large party but could not have been looked after any better at all. Well done Charlotte and all your team

The young waitresses were good and did their best. The restaurant was very cold and everyone was having to wear their coats throughout the meal.

Visited here today with my sister for lunch. Very nice reburb in the pub. Holly served us and was friendly and accommodating as she always is when we visit, as was Rachel who was also very helpful. We are always satisfied with the food, drinks and service. A lovely place to go!

Nice and big, friendly staff and good value. A real stick in the mud about honoring a discounted Childs pudding because I failed to order it at the same time as the meal. There are always workarounds in the name of good customer service! But apart from that would recommend.

Brilliant service and atmosphere, food was amazing too. Charlotte was also amazing and ensured we had a really good time.

The pub was freezing and when asked the staff said the heating was on fully and when I touch the radiator by the toilets it wasn’t on at all. The meal in total took 2.5 hours to complete from start to finish. Had to ask 4 times for the food and my son’s order got missed and then was incorrect and had to be reckoned which delayed everyone eating. The staff apologised but nothing was done about the delay in food and patience was waining.

Really nice and cosy pub in Litchfield, staff are really kind, the young guy at the till allowed us to try some beers before choosing them, all waiters were smily and lovely, I also saw one of them cleaning properly all menus which is a really good thing. Food and drinks are great and atmosphere is relaxed with a nice music playlist on the background.

The staff were all really friendly and positive, even though it was really busy. The food took a while to come out, but we were told it would be a while so that was ok. It was really nice when it came out though so it was worth the wait. Freshly cooked and tasted great. Hats off to the staff for being so great when it was so busy.
