White House Common Fish Bar in Birmingham

Hi, had mixed kebab with salad, chips and a curry sauce, kebeb was ok! Chips like cardboard and flavourless watery curry sauce, had one like this before, no names, won’t bother again. Really disappointed, used to be faultless, shame.

Excellent freshly cooked and lovely staff could do with more veggies choices but lovely food hot and tasty would recommend

Great food, Great Service. The food was amazing, its easy to understand why they are so busy. in my opinion this has to be the best chippy in sutton coldfield. You have to try it for yourself.

I purchased a large cod. The package didn’t feel hot - I should have questioned then. Home in less than 10 mins. Cod was almost cold. Very disappointed.

Mediocre at Best… Shocking Prices ‘Treated’ my daughter to a mini fish and chips £6 and a Saveloy £2.40….🤣 Really ! Chips tasted reheated from day before and fish was soggy and minuscule Avoid

We have had two takeaways. The first only sent one portion of chips instead of two and the plaice was overbattered with very little fish. The second takeaway was worse as everything was lukewarm and both fish were overcooked, tough and inedible. We will not be back.

Visited last Friday as I often have over the last 6 months...no because it's a great chippy (it's not), but because it's my new local and is really convenient for me. However, when I got home this time I found that my pukka pie was not just cold - it was still frozen in the middle. I didn't go back to complain as it was raining, but decided that I won't go ever again - I'll just get a delivery from a better chippy from now on.

£30 for 3 kebabs absolutely horrible gone straight in the bin as did the cold chips and the horrible over cooked sausage litually might as well have burned my money but the 7up is nice and cold so there something Wright

Recently voted best fish and chips in a review I read somewhere therefore thought we would try it out. Very average in my opinion- chips had no taste and there was too much batter on the fish. The fish itself didn’t taste of much. On a positive the sausage was good. We normally go to on Walmley Fish bar whose food is far superior and we be returning there.

Twice battered fish ( last night's I guess ). Soggy chips. And lots of little bits, not chips. What is to like???? Not good after the hype in the papers. 1 time visit.

All fish and chip shops nowadays are fairly hit and miss - it’s all too common to get home after spending £15-20 on a meal for two and be underwhelmed. However - when WHC get it right, it’s excellent! The fish does seem of really good quality and majority of the time I’m all too happy with what I’m given. A bit unsure as to why they won’t get on board with card payments though but as the saying goes, cash is king.

My wife and travel down from Scarborough every year and stay at the premier inn a few doors down, so this chippy is very handy for us. We had two excellent suppers from here last week and we really wish we had a chippy like this at home, lovely.

I live next door to falcon lodge chippy yet choose to drive here as its top notch and tje fish isn't off like the other place. Lovely fish and chips, sausages are banging too.

Called in for a large portion of chips and curry sauce, (cost £4.50) Never have my husband and I been so disappointed with chips. They were white totally tasteless and most ended up in the bin, the only saving grace was they didn’t leave a lingering smell in the house as they were so bland. The curry sauce was of a very watery consistency and not in the least appetising.

This chippy is our local and we use it regularly, however, we feel let down as last night (Christmas eve) we were told they had no cod or chicken and on our way out, they had run out of the mini fish, there was no apology or explanation given, I feel standards are slipping.

At the start of December I Ordered 20 portions of a variety of burger / fish / chips to be collected, I have got to say everything was cooked to perfection and ready for me to pick up on time, a big thank you to you all, called up again a week ago to find a table with a lovely lady serving free alcoholic drinks for Christmas while you wait for you chips, nice touch to get you in the Christmas spirit thank you again

This place is the best chippy in the area. It's recently changed hands, but the food is still great, staff friendly and the shop spotlessly clean.

Rude staff but most importantly the food is not up to standards. Id say worst fish and chips ive ever encountered.

We have been visiting this chippy regularly for a couple of years or so, usually having a fish & chips lunch deal which we eat in the shop. It has always been excellent quality and good value. But our latest visit was a real disappointment.

We go to this chippy regularly. But since new owners the kebab meats seem to not be cooked enough.. The marinade hasn't taken... Just a heads up. But still our favourite chips

We had a family take out and we all had something different. I’ll start with my fish and chips, it was delicious, the fish.. lovely white flakes in a not too thick not too thin crispy batter, that almost melted in your mouth. Chips were great too but I was raving about the fish for a couple of days!

This chip shop is on our doorstep and visit probably twice a month. The food is usually pretty good. On one of our last visits my 7 year old had mini fish & chips, the batter was really greasy and she only ate half, she was then sick a few hours later. Service with a smile is something you won’t get, especially if you get the displeasure of one lady with brown hair she’s unfriendly and rude. Went last night as a treat for my eldest daughter who needed cheering up after a bad day. The way the woman behind the counter treated her and spoke to her was disgusting, we wont return, will travel a little further from now on!

Passing through Sutton today and decided to stop as fancied a kebab, Doner meat in Pitta fresh salad was lovely, staff were friendly and efficient, great service, will definetly be using this fish shop again,

Whilst visiting relatives in the area we all decided on a fish and chip supper and this chippy had come highly recommended by the family living in the area.Perfect crisp batter on the fish and the chips were to die for-just what we needed after a long journey.We placed a very large order for all the family and the staff put themselves out to make sure we all got what we ordered, leaving nobody disappointed.Thank you to all and we will be back when next in the area.

Moaned before about this once excellent chip shop BUT now with new owners and having complained before, we tried again tonight(its so local this shop) and they have hit rock bottom, chips are all bits, dry and tasteless. Fish batter is dry and harsh,The fish dry and unapetising altogether DON'T GO to this chip shop.

We hadn't used this chippie for quite a long time but we were reasonably confident in going there again. Unfortunately I wouldn't be in a hurry to return. To be fair, it was a Friday evening and there was a long queue of people waiting to be served and the staff were working hard to get orders ready, but this obviously meant that food was being handed over too soon. By the time we made the short journey home the chips (very pale) had stuck together in a fatty ball. More like mashed potato with a thin skin. Most of it had to be thrown away. The fish was not very good and a piece of fried chicken was mainly skin and bone.

what has happened? gone from top fish and chip shop to utter rubbish. the fish is chewy and the chips are dry and tasteless. years of going here as they were amazing. last 3 times truly awful. i guess its been taken over. i wont going here again nor lots of people i know. what a shame

Tonight Fish chips and curry sauce was truly awful, slimy chewy Cod, chips all mashed together and unable to part on plate, the curry sauce is thicker and gelatinous. Used this chip shop for years but will not go again until the 'problem' and food...

got to say as a delivery driver and past through a lot of places, had fish and chip special for my lunch.. the staff was very frendly, had some where to eat my fish and chips instead of my lorry. the fish was fresh and the chips was very good, considering they were new potatoes which normally I am personally not the greatest fan off.. could not fault the price. As where I live they are a lot more expensive.

Asked for small kebab and small chips. Only one size kebab avaliable at £5.10. Meat half hot half cold. Very little salad. Not worth the price. Was told it was the cheapest in Sutton for the quantity of serving! !! Not so and not for cost v quality. Very disappointed. Chips OK hence 2 star.

Why is this shop so busy it's definitely for the Cod and chips the Cod taste delicious and blows up with a fantastic taste, definitely the best Cod in Sutton 10/10

Ordered Haddock and waited whilst it was freshly done, The wait was worth it especialy with the large portion of a regular Chips !!The taste was lovely and not greasy astried in other chip shops near by.No wonder there was a queue to get in .

Just got our meal from here and the quality has gone down hill. This used to be the go to place but now it's terrible. Chips undercooked and greasy, fish batter was full of grease aswell and stale. This is the second poor meal I've had from here in a row so I will be going else where next time.Just awfulMost went in the bin

Our Year One children were enjoying a seaside day this week and the experience was greatly enhanced by fabulous chips provided by this generous and friendly fish and chip bar.The chips were hot, fresh and the portions were plentiful! The children absolutely loved them and we would highly recommend this fish bar as the place to go!Thank you so much! The children will never forget their day (or your delicious chips!)

If you want fresh fish, well cooked and efficiently served this is the place. Kebab meat was good too. Would have been a five but I prefer the chips a bit crispier!

Came here for our Friday chips for the lads. Again was very good and didn't disappoint. Parking can be a bit of a pain but we use the petrol station next door.

My local and regularly visited chippy! Great quality and massive portions.Not an "eat in venue" but just a traditional chippy where a desire for top quality fish & chips, pies, kebabs and really good chips can be found.Try them and see if you agree.

I have been going to White House Common fish bar for 9 years. The food is fantastic, the portions are always very generous, the staff are always friendly and efficient and the place is always spotlessly clean. Great value for money. I can't recommend highly enough!!!!

I just like to say I don't usually do reviews, but after the service I had friday evening by a lovely young lady who was very polite and well mannered, and nothing was too much trouble for her, my food was also amazing I had a large order and everyone enjoyed what they had chose. Especially the cod which was so crisp. The young lady who served me and my family made this a 5 star chip shop and we will be defiantly going back. Thank you

I travel to this chippy even though there are closer shops to where I live. The food is always spot on and the staff work hard to provide good service.

We are regular visitors to this chippy. They are the best by far in Sutton Coldfield. The staff are more than friendly and so accommodating. We always go in with a big order as we have a big family and nothing is ever too much trouble for them. The food is beautiful and they pay that much attention to each customer they know our order. 'Roe back in' is always the first thing they say to us. Would recommend this chippy to anyone. Definitely worth a visit and you'll never go anywhere else.

The service is always fast,the staff friendly but the clincher is the fish is always a good size and the batter is light and crisp The chips are crisp and the portions are generous.There are menu options to please everyone but the reputation is built on the fish and chips and they are brilliant !!

My wife and i actually used this chippy on consecutive nights whilst staying at the Premier inn next door, it suited our dining requirements very well as there was a table where we could sit and eat our meal, the menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. Manager and staff are very friendly and the place is spotless, we were treated very well and wish we had a fish bar exactly like this where we live in North Yorkshire!!. Well recommended.

Visited this fish and chip shop recently. Very clean premises and friendly staff. The fish was freshly cooked, of good size, and with light crispy batter. The chips were not soggy.Parking is perhaps not the easiest immediately outside the shop but its well worth the effort to park in an adjoining road - however you could be lucky and be able to park in the lay-by outside the shop.

Live just down the road and never had bad food from there. Big portions and the kebabs are massive. The staff are friendly and it's very clean. On Friday and Saturday nights it gets busy with as many as 5 staff working non stop.

The portions for the full size fish and chips was generous. I had to wait a few minutes for the full size fish though. The staff especially the server was very friendly and nice.

This was our first visit here despite having lived in Sutton for many years. It won't be our last! We happened to be passing and it was lunchtime so we decided on fish and chips. The lunchtime deal was a beautifully cooked small piece of cod with fresh, tasty chips and proper mushy peas for a bargain £2.50. As a bonus, there are a few tables at which to enjoy the food too. I complimented the owner on his fish, which he informed me was caught off Ireland. Good to see they have gluten free days too. My daughter has to have a gluten free diet so we shall be taking her on her next trip to Sutton. We were so impressed with the quality that we shall be returning very soon and treating ourselves to the great British fish & chips more often.

We used to go to another chippy till my wife needed to eat gluten free food. What fools we have been!!!!! A huge piece of fish lightly coated in a gluten free flour, perfectly cooked and placed on a bed of very fresh salad accompanied by a wonderful portion of gluten free chips. Gluten free batter is also available on Thursdays. Miss this food if you want to be disrespectful to your body!!!

This is my local chippy and is absolutely great! The shop has recently been refurbished as it is always busy and can now offer the same fantastic service to even greater numbers of visitors - it isn't JUST a chippy but also caters for those wanting kebabs and pies plus many more special extras. I recommend this take away highly.

I have had fish and chip from Newquay Devon coast . Cornwall and landsend . None of them compare to how good this gluten free chips and fish are they are so crisp and fresh . Perfectly cooked everytime, you must try the gluten free chips there great tt. My wife is gluten intolerant , and since trying these non greasy crisp tasting chips and fish you will never use another chippy againAlso try the battered mushrooms woww

Have used this establishment for some years and it's always been ok, not the best, but generally good quality and pleasant service, however, just been there last night to find a piece of cod had gone up from £3.40 a few weeks ago, to £4.50, an increase of over 30%, which I find excessive, and as such I will take my trade elswhere in future.

Very good chippy. Clean, good price and tasty food. I've lived here for 13 years and this chippy has been consistently the best in the area.

As a Coeliac, it is great to have a local chippy which does a gluten free day. Phoned the order through about 10 minutes before and my gluten free cod & chips were ready when I arrived. Delicious - beautiful white cod with a light gluten free batter plus tasty chips.

This may be just a 'chippy' but such places vary tremendously in quality. This one is good. The fish is of good size and well cooked. Chips are hot and not soggy. Prices are reasonable, Service is efficient and friendly. There is parking right outside and a supermarket next door if you want drinks to go with the take-away.

Yes it's just a chippy but the fish is good, the chips are good, it's not mega expensive, what more do you need?
