Booked a meal for my husbands birthday. Got sat straight at our reserved table. Service was very good and drinks were got immediately. Good choices on the menu and food was delicious, portion sizes were huge! Got a 10% discount for staying at a partner site but they also add a 10% service charge on top, so didn't really feel like we saved anything!

The food is always amazing so no complaints there. Service on food coming out was a little delayed, lipstick stain on wine glass which we asked to be changed and also for one of the starters that we had to ask for it! First time I have had to say not happy with something at this restaurant.

Visited for Father's Day with my family. The food was excellent, though I thought we could have done with more veg on the sharing plates. The staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. An extremely popular local pub. The only thing I didn't like is having a service charge adding to the bill, rather than waiting for a tip. I know a lot of pubs/restaurants do this but to me, this is presumptuous of good service. The food was costly as it was without adding another 10% on. I'd rather make this choice on my own

Lovely food, good service, all overshadowed by a dish advertised as vegan being very much NOT vegan. Granted, the main bit of the dish (Nut Roast) was vegan and lovely. However, the Yorkshire pudding, mashed potato, vegetables and gravy were not vegan, meaning that my dairy-intolerant partner had to raise the issue. Vegetables that weren’t cooked in butter, and roast potatoes were brought out with an apology, but no gravy and no Yorkshire pud. Adding to this, by the time that it had been brought out, my partner had finished the rest of her meal, leaving her eating some potatoes and veg after the rest of her meal. Pretty awkward for me eating my food while she waited on hers. Not the experience we were hoping for. Just disappointing to go from the excitement of ‘this place does vegan Sunday lunches’ to ‘this is really frustrating because of something that’s so easily fixable’. Gutted. Easily fixed, though, but we just don’t want to return until it’s remedied.

Worst Sunday lunch I have ever had. To start with the beer was flat. When lunch arrived the roast potatoes were black so sent the meal back they changed the potatoes. Under the beef was a bed of sweet red cabbage which was awful the gravy was like water and the veg came in a cereal bowl a few peas a couple of carrots and shredded cabbage.

Recently changed hands so ignore any previous negative reviews. New landlord means everything is different. Food was very good as was the service; granted it was quiet as it was a Friday lunch time. Good value for money as well.

Staying locally the white horse Inn was recommended to us. After waiting for 3/4 of an hour our food finally came. What we had in general was average at best and although the salads were nice and fresh, the Ribs tasted like morrison specials. To top it off the sweetcorn was only just defrosted. After mentioning the sweetcorn I was offered another , but declined as I'd almost finished my meal. I understand it was only one element of the meal but was offered no discount or real apology and was then charged 10% service charge for the privilege. You live and learn but we won't be going back.

Had a relative came over from Holland and they were staying in Retford. Booked the White Horse at Barnby Moor as it was part of the Harper Inns group and we had always been impressed with the King William Inn at Scaftworth. The White Horse... Sad really but i can only speak as i found.

When you go somewhere that is renowned for good food it’s really upsetting to be served bought in pies and minuscule burgers but be charged full price and have an added service charge thrown in to add insult to injury. Really need to better with the food.

Just eaten at the White Horse thinking that under the same ownership as the King William at Scaftworth it would be something special… How wrong could I have been the Steak Pie was obviously not home made (and bought in looked like a Puka Pie and tasted about the same) certainty not as shown in pictures here on Facebook and Trip adviser, the White Horse burger was like a meatball sandwich with two tiny burgers that resembled table tennis balls and the Blackened Cajun Burger was dry. The whole meal was totally underwhelming and over priced and to add insult to injury they added 10% service charge to the total. I want go into anaemic fry’s etc. It really was a letdown and especially for a family celebration. Save to say I will not be going for a return visit and it’s not a patch on the King William. 1 out of 10 and that’s only because the girls who served us did their best under the embarrassment of the poor food.

Hi, we came for dinner for the first time today, excellent signage and table service, and dinner service prompt, girls polite and helpful. Ordering a breeze. I ordered beef Sunday dinner and others in group ordered other items. I have to say, for £16 per meal I expected sublime, i enjoyed it and ate it all but it wasn't sublime. The beef was tougher than I'd like but was tasty, I had to cut ✂️ out the fat, I got a bed of mash potatoes, 2 roast potatoes and i think homemade, and a Yorkshire and then some veg, what I can only describe as minimal. Not individually served but a dish of peas carrots broadbeans divided between a few people. I think my friends lamb was better value for money as lamb is generally more expensive. I guess what I'm saying is that I feel the prices did not reflect the meal, I would have been happier paying £12 for what I received , £ 16 is a little high for the food recieved and area we are in, it wasnt Gordon Ramsey in the kitchen or a poor relative. I also had the bakewell tart and again was nice but the skinny piece received with no offering of cream of custard for £6.50 again was poor pricing. Overall good ambiance, waitresses helpful and polite, food good but not sublime, not worth the charges and unfortunately I won't return for Sunday lunch.

The White Horse is a wee gem and manages to combine the atmosphere of a great local with a fabulous menu.We hadn’t planned on coming here as we were staying at Ye Olde Bell and planned to avail ourselves of their room service menu but the menu at The White Horse seemed more to our tastes. We donned our jackets and headed out for the 2 minute walk to the pub. What greeted us made our hearts sing. Lauren is a wonderful hostess, warm and friendly and with none of the aloofness that you sometimes find in village pubs. The menu is large enough to please all but small enough to ensure that every morsel is cooked to perfection. I won’t spoil the menu by detailing our choices but I can highly recommend the pie of the week (served with jugs of extra gravy) while the chicken parfait is smooth, creamy and full of flavour.Being so close to the A1, this is most certainly worth a detour for any weary traveller.

We arrived at 1430 for Sunday lunch to a warm and cosy atmosphere and were seated quickly, but unfortunately we weren’t given menus for 20 minutes. Once we had ordered it took an hour for our starters to arrive, far too long particularly as we were accompanied by a baby who had to sit and wait. The starters were quite small (three tiny ovals of toast with terrine/pate etc) and a bit uninspiring. Mains arrived 40 minutes after the starters were cleared. We had selected from the roast menu, each had only one slice of meat. The beef was over cooked having been described as ‘pink’ in the menu, it was well done and tough. The roast potatoes were submerged in the mash under the meat so were soggy and disappointing, the caulifower cheese was watery but topped with tough salty cheese but the veg was ok. We ordered a range of desserts, I had bread and butter pudding which arrived cold and was a bit bland. In summary this is a relatively poor Sunday lunch with an unjustified premium price tag and slow service. Wouldn’t recommend.

With our busy schedules me and my mum don’t often get time to eat out together anymore, but we decided last minute we would make the effort . We had been the white horse previous to it changing hands and loved it and After seeing posts on Facebook of the new menu literally “food porn” as we call it , we made a reservation last minute. We were greeted by friendly staff and seated , drinks order was taken and brought over by the manager (Natalie) we are not big meal eaters we like to nibble so we went for a few starters and sides and loved it so much ! The scotch egg was out of this world and the belly pork was amazing ! The menu is slightly “pricey” compared to before but I guess you get what you pay for , and I’m more than happy to support local businesses with locally sourced produce.

Frequented this pub quite often. It has recently been taken over and the prices of the food and drink have been increased quite a lot. The menu has changed and apart from the burger, which was ok but certainly not worth £16! there is not much else on there that I would eat and I am not a particularly fussy eater. I like mash but not with black pudding in it! Which is a marmite type of food. Fair enough have it available as a side but not accompanying the main dishes. Sunday lunch is expensive when can get much nicer and cheaper at another nearby pub. Last 3 times have been in on a weekend and by 9.00 the place was virtually dead ( on saturday at 10 we were the only ones there) even the regulars seem to have disappeared.

We have been to the White Horse inn many times over the last couple of years and been very satisfied, we booked Sunday lunch today and on arrival looking at the menu we could see it had changed hands (3 weeks ago), the prices are quite high for Sunday lunch circa £15.00 (one course)we were all very disappointed, two of us had the lamb and though it was not tuff it was a little chewie, two had pork and it consisted of one piece of meat with a half an inch of fat round so once cut off the portion was very small, the vegtables also had been dirizzled in lemon juice and all you could taste was lemon so once on your plate thats all you could taste, the whole meal had little taste it was rather bland, i must admit for the price we where shocked as we expected a very good meal, all four of us agreed that it is over priced and you can find a much better Sunday lunch for nearly half its price.

A last minute decision to find somewhere for Sunday lunch. Was not disappointed. Staff very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Food delicious. Had a Sunday roast..couldn’t fault it. Vegetables cooked to perfection, as was beef. Gravy to die for!!

We phoned and booked a table, accepting the time proposed by the pub. After ordering our drinks we were astonished to be told that we would have a 40-minute wait for food from when we placed our order... the restaurant had three other tables occupied and was practically empty! After 70 minutes of waiting we were told the food would be another 5 to 10 minutes. We obviously left. No one apologised throughout the whole time we were there. The staff were very impolite.

Impromptu Sunday lunch out woth a friend, fancied a good home style cooked Sunday roast and this place didn’t fail. The decor was quirky, the pub itself was comfy and relaxed.

We visited the WH at Barnby Moor recently after it was recommended to us. It was Saturday evening, around 7.45pm when we arrived and there were 20 people in the bar and restaurant. We made eye contact with the young girl who was serving, even though the look on her face was more of a "don't ask me as I am really pee'd off" type of look.

Very friendly welcome, nice beer albeit expensive, the Gammon was disappointing, very thin slice, two eggs and peas, and a small basket of chips, not what i would call value for money, i passed my comments to the bar staff, she apologised, it ended there, I'm sorry to say i won't be returning.

A charming country pub, very welcoming any time of year. A great choice on the menu, to suit all tastes and budgets. Nicely decorated with different zones for food, drinks and entertainment, but you’re welcome to eat and drink anywhere.

We had a very good Sinday lunch here. The spicy butternut soup with very good bread was tasty, the prawn cocktail good but not a great deal of prawns and loads of lettuce. The main courses were plentiful and the gravy gorgeous. Plenty of veg is brought separately. The only real criticism is that I like my beef pink and this was well done and slightly chewy. Desserts are home made and also very good.

Well what a shame! Been looking forward to visiting this refurbed venue so we were very disappointed to be charged £3.75 a pint for 3.6% beer not particularly well kept £22 for a round of 5 beers a small glass of wine AND, wait for it, £3.40 for lime and soda. What?!! Other establishments charge 50p or a £1 for this with a large round like this. The bar lady was not pleasant when challenged either. So, although a pub local to us, it would have been a useful new venue for eating and drinking, I can’t see that happening.

Everything tasted warmed up and wasn't actually even that warm!! Beef was rather chewy. Pork loin and gammon were a little fatty but ok. Cauliflower cheese came with meal together with a bowl of plenty of seasonal vegetables - all needed to be much warmer. Won't go back for Sunday lunch but having eaten off the main menu before, will give that another try. The recent refurb has tidied the place up nicely and it has a nice feel to it. Food needs work to improve quality.

Food more expensive than other restaurants in the area so expected something special. No atmosphere in dining area and no other tables occupied.Room was chilly to the point of discomfort. Music loud and intrusive.Selected a corn fed chicken dish at £14 but was disappointed with a chicken leg. would have prefered chicken breast.

Wow, we can't believe our luck! Having moved to the village in July we soon heard the White Horse Inn was to be taken over and given a full refurbishment. Since opening we've used it for both business lunches and pleasure where every aspect has been excellent.

First visit and it was great. Had the grandchildren and they loved the play area. Staff were very relaxed with small people bobbing around. The breakfast was very good and additional coffees ordered arrived promptly. Well done.

Absolute gem which we are thrilled we found. Good easy parking, fabulous menu of truly home cooked foods. Wide drinks list Beautiful inside with level access and patio area all over looking the run way. Staff friendly and efficient, dog friendly outside although when wind is high ( like today ) the patio is closed for safety which is fully understandable. Will definitely return if we are in the area

We recently had our wedding at this venue. I can honestly say we could not fault a thing. Elizabeth and Beth was extremely accommodating of our requests and made sure the day run extremely smoothly. The food was beautiful and wedding guests dietary requirements was all met. The venue and grounds are fabulous. A large group of family and friends joined us the next day for Sunday dinner to continue to celebrations, staff accommodated our large group and the food was lovely once again.
