Such an amazing place! The best beer garden with such a nice atmosphere. Had a Sunday roast last week which was very good. Pizza shed in the back serving pizzas/ dough balls which look and smell fab. Ice creams at the cowshed are unreal (the queue is quite big on a weekend) and live music on the weekends through the summer is such a nice addition

Group of four refused entry by manager as we had a cockapoo dog with us. Despite reading all the reviews saying the pub was dog friendly, checking the website that confirmed this, despite booking a day in advance and specifying that we would be bringing a dog, which was confirmed by email which actually says yes to bringing the dog, and despite the chef and another member of staff actually coming out to stroke the dog and saying that they had no problem with us entering, and despite showing the website that confirms dog friendly status, the manageress for the day still refused us entry saying that the policy was for the pub not to allow dogs in at all. Been a number of times to King Billy’s but never with a dog. Think that will be the last time though

So I don’t want to give a bad review as I really enjoy coming to this pub & over the last couple of years I have brought my elderly mum who loves it in the beer garden especially when there is a singer on. I do want to say there is a must for a disabled toilet ! Something I think you need a review on & invest in . I thought all places had to have disabled toilet . I don’t think it’s something you look for in places until you actually need one yourself. My mum recently has become unable to walk sadly. We took her to this pub for a drink & ice -cream recently as she has always liked it here. The staff member offered an apology to not having a disabled toilet, offered to stand outside the ladies toilet while my sister , friend & I sorted mum out as we needed to utilise all the space. We unfortunately had an upsetting disaster of which we needed a mop & bucket. We asked for this & the young girl went off to get one but never came back. Never got anyone else to stand at the door while she finds a bucket . Leading to a friend of our family standing outside stopping people coming into the toilet. Which she then got a abuse for from others ( understandably as this wasn’t anyone else’s issue but ours ). This then added more to our upset trying to handle the situation. We did our very best in clearing up the toilet , we reported the situation but got snapped at saying we are looking for a mop ( this took for ever , am talking over 10 mins + & we was actually concerned others would slip on the wet foor. The staff didn’t seem to have any concern at all. Please consider putting in a disabled toilet on your grounds as it’s very much needed & can be seen by discrimination against disabilities. Had we had a disabled toilet the worry of rushing & thinking about others would have been massively reduced. Mum was upset all the way back home after this. We no longer can bring her here no more unless it’s flying visit to collect ice - cream & leave .

Called on a Sunday for a drink (and an ice cream from the palour next door). However 18mth old Grandson need some food, a cheeky request to bar staff was made and they made him a pork sandwhich with gravy in double quick time even though the pub was rammed with diners. Superb staff...An excellent choice of drinks and cool beer garden down to a lovely little river...

First time visit, sadly the last. The dining room was open to the elements and it was uncomfortably cold. Most diners sat with their coats on. After several hints and complaints the staff reluctantly closed the bifolding doors. I chose the steak sandwich which I had to send back as the meat was inedible. All in all disappointing.

We visited on our way back from a Wedding Event in Doncaster which finished earlier than we expected so we arrived 2 hours before our booking. We sat and chatted in the bar area with our drinks for a while but as soon as a table was available we were seated for our stunning Sunday dinner. Lovely home cooked tasty food and we just had enough room for an ice cream from the parlour and we grabbed some fresh milk too from the machine. Would highly recommend x

There was plenty of choice and we got meals from different sections of the menu as well as the specials board and it was all great. The Steak & Ale pie was especially amazing!! We didn't have starters so we could try the desserts and they were also all so good!! We will definitely go back again and even though it's a bit more expensive, it is definitely worth it!! Can't wait to try it in summer as well with the live music and beer garden. Thank you all so much.

I have raved about the King William Inn for the past five years as this is a place I frequented for refreshments whilst out on my motorcycle on Sunday afternoons. Subsequently I booked a meal for my partner and I for our first date, and to say I struck gold would be an understatement, my partner absolutely loved the whole evening. From the location, the wine, the food, the staff and owners, it made for a very special evening. Fast forward five years, and we have returned each February for our anniversary (coupled with other visits when possible) each time leaving with full bellies and very pleasant memories. Tonight was no exception as I finally rounded up my whole family for a long awaited meal for 11, which doubled up as an 18th birthday celebration for my stepson. Unfortunately (and rather ironically) my partner’s meal was not up to the usual high standards and although she didn’t wish to make a fuss, I spoke with the manager who was very friendly, polite, understanding and offered a very reasonable resolution as gesture of goodwill. This further galvanises my opinion on what an excellent and respectable establishment the King William Inn is and we will definitely return for more beautiful food and priceless memories with my family.

After seeing the quality of the food in the photos and hearing it is a popular place, I decided to book in on bonfire night. There were me, my wife and 2 children. For starter me and my eldest ordered the scotch egg. I've never ordered a scotch egg before so didn't really know what to expect, but a dry egg and over cooked outer coating crunchier than a pork scratching wasn't what I expected for just short of a 10a each! The wife ordered camembert cheese with chilly dip and bread/toast. I'll be honest, it was quite pleasant to eat when you found the chilly dip amongst the cheese but other than that I suppose it's an acquired taste, like marmite, you either love it or hate it. The bread/toast though was that dry and hard, I'm sure Cemex would have been happy to supply it to persimmon builders as footings. The youngest ordered cheese garlic bread, he's 4, they forgot it! If any of you have children around this age you would know that, when everyone is eating and they're not, they produce words/noises that haven't been heard since Mr blobby was on the tele. After prompting, they finally brought the cheese garlic bread, it was one piece of sliced bread with a sprinkle of cheddar cheese which hadn't even been melted, and cost around £4. We're talking professional chefs that can't melt cheese. We sat for half an hour to be asked what we we were waiting for, obviously we were waiting for our mains. It felt like we were being pushed out. So the mains. I had chicken and chorizo gnocchi. chicken thigh, on top of gnocchi in a sauce, with chorizo pieces. chicken thigh was brilliant, nice and juicy, crispy skin, nice! The rest of it was so, so salty it would have been more enjoyable to drink from the Atlantic. It got left... My eldest had bacon steak, he left that as it had more fat than Gemma collins. The wife had a chicken burger, I mean, you can't mess it up, can you? Well...the bread bun, which hadn't been toasted by the way, was that dry and crumbly it could have been mistaken for your grandparents slipper. I folded it in half and it broke and turned to crumbs! The burger itself tasted off, and probably worse than the slipper...it got left also. The youngest had mac and cheese, there would have been more taste in that fore mentioned slipper. Bad, bad experience!! Maybe the fireworks were to blame, and they were too busy, but if that was the case, I personally would have shut this side of the restaurant for the night. The bill came to £130. So make of that what you will for that type of food, and messed up the complete order from start to finish. They knocked of £60 as an acceptance of the poor experience we'd had. So still cost £80 for meals that never got eaten. Honestly, I like to give the benefit of the doubt, but this took the biscuit, so won't be getting another visit.

This is my third visit to this pub. Always been highly satisfied with the food, service and ambience. I was so looking forward to lunch with friends but came away highly disappointed and suspect they have different chefs. Hubby had pie, the meat was lovely but you need a very sharp knife to cut the crust, it had obviously been kept warm for some time. Soaking it in gravy helped. Friends had fish and chips which at best was cool. The waitress took them away only for them to be microwaved. Now the chips were awful, soggy and the fish over cooked. Although they denied any microwave was used the dish contains the peas was extremely hot, sorry to say we didn’t believe them and asked to see a chef, none arrived. Their meals were removed from the bill. My chicken was nice but small and expense considering it only included 2 small mushrooms and 1 grilled tomato, had to order a side dish of chips. It was nicely cooked. The menu has changed, not for the better in our view. Felt sorry for the 2 waitresses as they were exceptionally busy. There was a wedding on which is why were we understanding in delays but not the quality of the meals.

What was meant to be a birthday meal in a place recommended to us by others and blessed with a very picturesque setting, turned out to be so bad it was actually almost funny, save for the fact that we spent £110 on a one course meal and 4 drinks (cokes and 2 glasses of wine) for 3 adults and one child. Yes it was sunny Monday evening, summer staff are probably new and inexperienced, but some things are just inexcusable, and it was a quiet evening after a clearly busy day (not a single garden table was clear of glass, although only a couple were occupied). So here are the highlights. White WINE came filled with ice cubes, as if we ordered a G&T??? (we had it replaced). "We don't really have a drinks menu". Two items from the specials menu were poor. - Seafood & fish platter to share (£35) had inedible squid rings, almost inedible battered prawns and mussels in a bland sauce, no salt in either the sauce or prawn batter. Saving grace were fish goujons (2) and a decent prawn cocktail, but I was left hungry even with a £6.95 (!) bowl of side spring greens. - Ostrich burger was so overdone and dry that the person eating it, who never ever puts any condiments in burgers, had to pour some ketchup on the meat to make it edible. No one asked us if we were happy with the meal. Jug of water that was offered never came. Bill came with a 10% tip already added, which I have never come across in a country pub in the UK for a table of 4 people. Yes, it is written in the menu, in a very small print, and no, I was not going to go through the embarrassment (for the staff) of asking to take it off. The only saving grace was a decent white wine (once served without ice cubes) and Fish&Chips my daughter had (minus the mushy peas that must have been poured the day before, as they were stuck dry to the dish and had a crusty layer on the top, she doesn't like mushy peas anyway). It's such a shame as the setting is beautiful, but we definitely won't be eating here again.

Poor quality Sunday lunch with overcooked, gristly lamb for me, bland chicken for another of us. Our order of spring greens as a side dish became another bowl of mixed vegetables (we already had plenty), and no understanding of what the item was supposed to be when we complained - some problems with the broccoli were mentioned, not sure how that affected something completely unrelated. It took 3 requests to get the bill, but at least the ice cream parlour (Saturday and Sunday afternoon only) was excellent.

Came here in a group for Sunday Lunch after having an enjoyable meal here a year ago. Sadly the experience was not repeated. The food was generally not warm enough, the potatoes seemed like they had been reheated from the previous day as had some of the meats. The people in our group who had lamb said it was very gristly and everything was generally quite bland. The ice cream place next door is very nice however so I would going there instead.

Booked to come here for Sunday lunch and had roast dinner. Food was on the expensive side (£17+ for some meat with a couple of roast potatoes, a parsnips, mash and red cabbage with a bowl of seasonal veg to share between the table). Were several cask ales at the bar, but only Landlord was available at the time. We also ordered a portion of spring greens to share (£7), however this arrived as another bowl of the same green beans, etc that came as the veg with the roast, not spring greens. Both were watery and bland. When we queried this, we were told there was a shortage and there normally would have been tenderstem broccoli. We weren't told this when we ordered and no offer was made to reduce the price or remove from the bill. If we were told what this side was actually going to be we wouldn't have ordered it. Nut roast was quite nice, but chicken was dry and bland. Also had to ask for the bill three times over more than half an hour to get this.

Love amazing place, the scallops were top draw. The burger was perfect, nice to eat a top notch burger and the patty not slide out of the bun or become soggy as. Really great food 👍😀

What a smashing little pub! The atmosphere is fantastic and is popular with locals and visitors from further afield. We went on a Sunday lunchtime and were treated to live music in the beer garden at the back, which was unexpected and enjoyable. The food was good - we had fish (which was a little overdone) and a vegan pappardelle (which was really delicious). We also had a side order of spring vegetables, which were fresh and perfectly cooked. Overall, we had a lovely lunch and would certainly go back at the drop of a hat.

We had originally set out to visit another eating place in the area that had said they had Gluten free options but they didn’t 🤦🏼♀️ we got talking to a local family who recommended this place and OMG so much Gluten free choices I really couldn’t pick, eventually I decided on fish and chips and I wasn’t disappointed, it was beautiful, my husband had a chicken burger stack thing & devoured it, they have a cute dog menu so our dog chose chicken & gravy, the staff were lovely and knew the menu and all the drinks etc and we felt very welcome, beautiful surroundings too xx

Having been here before, absolutely no complaints about the quality of the food, but the service was terrible this time. Had to wait for our table was told "just a couple of minutes" and was over 30 in the end. When finally seated we ordered and the food came out wrong, this was remedied but one had to be sent back a second time to be resolved. The lady who served us was very apologetic, but the lack of clarity at the beginning and then the issues with the food soured the experience a bit. I'm sure they were staff down or something as every other time has been stellar.

Best Cafe in Workshop for good value, honest, fresh cooked food. The staff we have always found to be friendly and efficient too. My wife and family have been frequenting this place for more than 15 years and have never had a bad experience. Yes the building is old Victorian era and has been many things before in its past, so it has obviously been knocked around quite a bit. This for me gives it character, look at the old creaky staircase and wonder who and how many people climbed them in the past.... If this building could speak it would tell some interesting.tales I'm sure. There are many things you could say are not great standard if you are hard to please but the food quality and staff are top notch and this makes it a comfortable place to eat, our type of cafe. My particular fave dish is the Cheese Omelette, but between me, my wife and our children we have tried quite a good selection from the menu without complaints. We are always greeted on entry and the food is always served in a timely fashion, with a smile. We have tried other cafes in Workshop but they don't have the value, character or warmth that this one has. So try it out, if it's not for you go and be robbed by some of the other pirates in Worksop.

Poor quality meat and vegetables won't be going again unless massive improvements in food served.
