We found this pub online when searching for Sunday lunch. Everywhere else seemed booked up so I wasn't expecting much to be honest - how wrong I was! It's a bit out the way but well worth making the effort. The staff were very friendly on arrival and had reserved us a table and set it up ready. It was busy at the bar with locals and there were a few other couples, with their dogs, eating. I was pleased to see a nut roast on the menu, advertised as 'deluxe nut roast' so went for that, my husband had roast pork. To be fair, the food did take a while to come, however it said at the bottom of the menu -'we dont serve fast food' and when it arrived, it tasted freshly cooked and was well worth the wait! The portions were huge. My husband had five decent slices of pork loin and I had an individual nut roast. With it, we had roast potatoes and two Yorkshire puddings. In separate dishes came carrots, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower cheese and carrot and celeriac mash - delicious. My husband had a piece of crackling and some apple sauce and we both had a jug of gravy. The nut roast was packed with cranberries, mushrooms and seeds as well as nuts and rice. We have big appetites and were disappointed that we had to leave some of the veg as we were full. The bill with four soft drinks was £40! Fabulous value. We highly recommend for Sunday lunch and will definitely eat here again on our next visit to the area.

Fantastic Sunday lunch, great portions and they went out of their way to cater for our dietary requirements. The Dorset apple cake was the best ever! Lovely atmosphere, staff and landlady. The pub is in a very pretty and picturesque setting, within a beautiful village. We also visited on fish n chips night too, which was also excellent.

Really lovely Pub we’re staying at Litton Lakes and it’s a quick 5 minute walk. Called up last minute and they squeezed us in despite being quite busy. Staff were so friendly and lovely, the food was delicious and well presented our steaks were cooked to perfection My son enjoyed their epic White Horse burger and my daughter really enjoyed her kids burger the portions were all generous and good quality. We only live over in Lyme Regis so will definitely be back as it’s such a nice pub and excellent value for money.

Amazing Sunday Roast - very generous portions, lots of meat and roast potatoes, two large Yorkshire puddings and lovely veg including very cheesy cauliflower cheese. Very good value for money as well - we paid £15 each for this huge roast dinner. Good choice of real ales and ciders and well.

We enjoyed a Roast Beef Sunday lunch at the White Horse Inn. It was utterly delicious, we both cleared our plates. It's such a lovely pub with a great local atmosphere, we are just visiting the area for a short break, but we never felt like we were not welcome.. This was our second visit for food, we came back as the Friday night fish, and chips were so good. So much gluten free options are also available.

Pub smells bad and food was really overcooked. The bar staff were rude and when I asked how much longer the food was going to be after nearly an hour I was told about another 10 minutes! Last night of our holiday and went for evening meal. Good atmosphere and very welcoming staff. 3 of our party ordered gammon which was overcooked but all other meals were good and good value for money. The staff responded very well to our disappointment with the gammon meals and didn’t charge for them and were very accommodating and apologetic. One of our party left an item of clothing behind and one-off the staff brought it back to our holiday home before we’d even noticed it was missing. Excellent customer service all round. Well done.

The White Horse Inn is off the main track and driving through the lovely countryside to get there is pure enjoyment. The pub has a lovely feel inside with its wooden bar, memorabilia and simple tables and chairs. The menu is small with the usual classics. Food came in quickly in generous portions and it was tasty. The pub was busy with mainly locals having a drink and a chat with a friendly owner. We were staying with friends who recently moved to Litton Cheney and they, quite rightly, wanted to show off their lovely friendly new local. Of course in Dorset being a local doesn't mean it's necessarily next door but the walk from their home was a delight and not too far even for my husband who had a full knee replacement in March. We were so lucky to choose a weekend of stupendously good weather so walks back and forth to The White Horse were a delight, that said I could imagine using my head torch in the middle of winter and finding the whole escapade rather an adventure. The land lord, and all the locals could not be more friendly, it has a wonderful feel. More importantly the beer is kept extremely well and even fussy beer drinkers were praising the quality. On the Friday night we arrived a band was preparing for the evening but sadly we didn't have time to stay, I can imagine it would've been a great night. Although a little out of the way I suggest you find every excuse to venture "off piste" and discover this great pub.

Oh dear oh dear, the relatively new manager Peter from East London - innit, thinks that behaving to customers down in Darset in the same way that people are spoken to in darkest Romford is acceptable. While to a certain extent I might sympathise and understand that years on those rough streets might leave some emotional scarring, he should have had time enough in the sleepy Bride Valley to change his approach to certain situations. What a bizarre incident - I asked for a coffee. Before I ordered, I asked the barman how much it would be, to be sure as I only had limited change. He didnt know - which seemed odd. So he asked the manager.£3 was the reply. 'Are you joking?' , I replied. Here we are at a non-posh non-gastro pub in Dorset and you want to charge £3 for a coffee from your little machine. He replied that it wasn't up to him the price, but to the man he he hires the coffee machine from. ?? The man he hires the coffee machine from? What would a pub be hiring a coffee machine for, especially one that would cost not more than a couple hundred £'s to purchase new. I didn't quite get this idea that the man he hires the coffee machine sets the price of the coffee. So i asked again and from his response it was clear that Peter has set the price of £3.I told him its 'taking the pxx'. You cant charge guests £3 for a cup of coffee, (not even pretentious coffee bars in London charge £3 for cup of crappy coffee)because the implication is that many might automatically order a coffee after dinner or lunch completely unaware that it would be £3. its just greedy. its attempting to catch your guests unawares. The pub down the road in Puncnknowle have more of a proper coffee machine and only charge £2.40.(although even that is over the top)The girl at the bar tried to defend Peter's pricing policy by saying Costa Coffee charge £5 for a coffee. 'They don't charge £5 at all for simple cup of coffee'. This made no difference.Peter then tried an analogy by using my bike as an example - asking how much I'd paid for it. I failed to see the relevance - and the his answer was, 'See, you get what you pay for, don't you'.I struggled to see the point he was making.Did he really think his crxxpy little machine used with 'lavazza' (he seemed to think this was some boutique exotic coffee blend - maybe it is in down Dagenham way) would result in the greatest cup of coffee in the South of England. It was impossible to keep a straight face at his attempts to defend his pricing policy (but this just made him angry and aggressive, 'Im not forcing coffee down you mate!!' He snarled with menace. oh dear. The pub went quiet for quite a few minutes as Peter plonked himself down to continue watching the football and forget about the irritating customer winding him up.He then tried to use the argument that I was using the pub wifi for free? Was he meaning the extortionate cost of coffee is to subsidise the pubs wifi? Golly... He didnt agree at all that its ben quite a while since pubs charged for Wi-FI.How is it even a sensible pricing policy - who is actually going to order a coffee for £3. They'll only order one if they don't know the price - which perhaps is Peter's little trick. What do the locals think? Maybe he charges them differently? Its not good Peter. It will leave a bad taste. You need to rethink on this one and your aggressiveness to customers who question your stance on the issue shows that you're not that comfortable with it yourself.....

I visited here whilst staying in the YHA over the road having arrived late after a very long bike ride. The kitchen was about to close but the landlord - Peter - was extremely helpful and took my food order so that I could go and change. I came back and Peter had set a table for me and couldn't have been more helpful. The gurnard and chips were delicious...I only wish I'd left a little room when I noticed the hearty desserts being served up at the table next to me!The locals in the bar were so friendly and welcoming - it felt like a night out with old friends. Just what I needed after a long day on my own.Peter and his wife Jamie have created a really special atmosphere in this place. Thank you so much for making this one of the highlights of my trip. I can't recommend it enough if you're staying locally or passing by on national cycle route 2.I'll definitely be back again!!!

We camped at this pub (which now has camping facilities) and spent a lot of time in the bar too when we weren't exploring the surrounding areas. Food was good and the beer even better. Camping facilities are basic but everything clean and tidy. Good mix of entertainment inc Morris dancers and a live band. Only bad thing was the weather but we soon dried out! Will visit again very soon, thanks White Horse Inn!

We had a meal whilst on holiday and had the warmest of welcomes. We were 9 adults and 3 under 5's plus 4 dogs. We were allocated half of the pub and were able to arrange our tables to suit. The children were given a colouring books and crayons which was very nice. The menu was good and the food very nice and also good value for money. The service was good, really couldn't fault our experience.

Me & my family have visited this pub several times. Our most memorable time being for the Annual rubber duck race in the village. Every time we have visited we have been greeted with a warm, friendly vibe that makes you feel exceptionally welcome. The pub is very cosy and inviting. The food is second to none (10/10 for the roast potatoes!! Well done Jaemie!!)We have enjoyed many a game of skittles (even had the landlords joining in on the shenanigans!!)We enjoyed an amazing Sunday afternoon of fine wine and ales, plenty of laughs, fantastic family bingo and then danced and sang the night away!! What more could you want from a quaint little picturesque village pub!!Keep up the hard work Pete & Jaemie!! We'll definitely be back soon..... (So stock up on the rosè please!!!)

5 of us went for supper. We had a warm welcome. The menu was limited but everything we had was good food and well cooked. The staff were very friendly and the manager even gave us some milk for our tea the next morning as we were staying in the youth hostel next door. We really appreciated that!

Thank you to Peter and team for looking after us so well this weekend. The skittle alley was huge fun, and afterwards the food was efficiently served and very hot and tasty. Also some of our group, who were staying at the YHA hostel next door in Litton Cheney, had a jolly afternoon enjoying the rugby. The rest of our group walked over to Long Bredy to enjoy the lovely countryside of Dorset and the church and ancient tracks.

Fabulous Roast Potatoes. The outside of the building does not do it justice. Inside is a lovely village Pub with friendly staff, great beer and great food.

Truly terrible roast. went for a Sunday roast while staying in the excellent youth hostel. All we wanted was an ok meal before we all parted company. It was pretty dreadful. My wife's vegetarian main was ice cold inside. My lamb was average but the vegetables were very very poor. some of the peas were stuck together with ice. When this was pointed out to the waitress she didn't even apologise, just microwaved the plate and brought it back. Roast spuds were poor. The kids meals were also pants.I can only imagine they do not have a chef, just someone muddling through. We were the first to arrive so how they couldn't get ours right I have no idea. We shovelled it in, finished our pints and left- not good.Owner looked pretty hungover (as was I- but I was on a jolly he was at work), and didn't seem proficient at either serving behind the bar or taking orders. Its in a nice location but I cant see it staying open long without drastic improvements in the quality of the food. Shame.

Ordered the beef roast dinner. Only had beef, lamb or vegetarian roast options on the Sunday. When we received our food the beef was so rare that the blood from the meat mixed into the gravy. Broccoli was over cooked, Yorkshire pudding underwhelming and roast potatoes resembling those you'd find on a school dinner plate. The only part of the meal that was edible were the carrots. Ordered chocolate sponge for dessert and I don't think I've ever tasted such a dry sponge. I would not recommend this pub to anyone and I will never go back.

The landlord today served me the most delicious coffee. The best coffee I have had this year. The pub was fantastic. Lovely decor and spotlessly clean. I look forward to visiting again soon.

A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

Sunday lunch was not very good. Waiter ate food and drank at the bar constantly. Emptied bins and didn't wash his hands. Chef sat at the bar in between orders. Food arrived and was tasteless, meat tough and when asked for cranberry sauce the waiter arrived with a plastic tub to serve it!
