A small hidden Cafe hidden down a side alleyway, delivers a big smile through it's food and warm welcoming hosts. They make delicious salads, homemade crustless quiche, large saucer style macaroons, homemade sausage rolls and vege rolls. It's the only place in Dorchester that i feel the food is good for you, cooked on the spot there that day, great coffee and choice of tea's etc. Seating is limited and very sadly due to it's size of premises maybe closed due to Covid, please double check. They have worked so hard and deserve all our support

Tucked away, but terrific! It’s quite a small footprint and we had to wait a little while to get a table. We arrived at 1pm, so it was peak lunch time. Food was delicious and arrived promptly. Friendly and helpful staff. A definite winner! I had warm chicken sandwich which was divine and my companion had a delicious and very elegant English Breakfast. Plenty of tea to wash everything down. I would thoroughly recommend both.

While in Dorchester we found The Loft up a small alleyway. I entered and asked for an egg mayonnaise sandwich, they did not have much of a selection so I was ordered a cheese and tomato and a bacon roll with two teas £ 16+. The sandwich did not have much cheese and bacon roll was a bit dry and small with not much bacon ( which was streaky). Overall not a very good snack for £16+. Will definitely not be returning.

Came upon this little cafe on a first time visit to Dorchester. We hadn't seen much sun during our week's visit to Dorset but it came out the day we visited and sitting outside The Loft for a coffee was very pleasant indeed. One viewing of the culinary delights on offer was enough to bring us back again for lunch. The food ranged from imaginative twists on eastern cuisine to the outstanding traditional cream tea - one of the best I have ever tasted with to die for scones and superb conserve. Well worth searching out.

I used to be a regular here. But stopped going for various reasons. Size of coffee (too small), and not strong enough. But the cakes were good. What I actually missed most were their macaroons! Absolutely delicious, chewy, damp in the middle, generous size and undeniably made of almonds and v little (if any) flour.

While visiting Dorchester my partner and I were looking for somewhere to have a coffee and lunch. Walking up one of the passage ways we came across The Loft - what a find! From the outside you can see the bussle inside and its cosiness with seating both upstairs and outside. We entered to be met by the wonderful aroma of fresh coffee and home cooking. I ordered a Chai Latte and a filter coffee plus a mixed salad bowl (with a selection on offer) and one of their home made sausage rolls. This should be their signature offering as it was delicious with a hint of sweetness from the mix. We went upstairs to clean tables and our food and drink arrived swiftly - the staff being young, enthusiastic and helpful. The Loft was also spotlessly clean, which makes a pleasent change. It had a mixed crowd from us oldies to young families; all of which added to the friendly atmosphere. Everyone was seemlessly catered for.

We've visited Dorchester many times over the past seven years spending Christmas near Abbotsbury but have never used The Loft. On this visit we did and all I can say is that we've missed out on a little gem. The food options were great and coffee my favourite tipple really good. The challenge for any new coffee house we try is their scones especially the Cheese scone. Well all I can say is this was by far the best cheese scone I've had for sometime, not dry but nicely moist and actually tasted of cheese as well as it was very light.

We just went in for a snack. Food was good and the coffee was nice. we sat upstairs in the small cafe. Very clean and well laid out. Service was OK, but someone who came in after us had their snack served before us! Yes, they had the same choice too. As said, the food was good and the side salad was fresh. One minor quibble. When we were ordering, from who I guessed was the owner, one of the staff was putting cutlery into a drawer in the counter. The owner (I think) stopped her, and started explaining how to stow the cutlery by laying it on the counter first, rather than hold a pile of it in her hand . I thought it was a bit picky, and certainly not what I would expect to happen in front of a customer. If staff need training? there is a time and a place. It made me feel uncomfortable, hence the three stars only.

Discovered this tiny cafe when searching Dorchester for lunch. It is a tiny place too, hidden away in an Alley, so be prepared to share a table. I don't mind doing this anytime, I invariable meet someone very interesting whenever I do this. The owners have a passion for food that is surprising rare in the catering industry and their enterprise should be applauded. I indulged in the 'taster platter', which absolved me from the difficult task of making a choice when presented with an entire counter of things I REALLY wanted to eat. It was all wonderful and there was so much that I couldn't eat it all, even though I offloaded some on to my companion's plate.I found the staff very friendly and helpful. I have read some reviews written on this forum about the Loft and I commend the owner for writing strong responses to the few criticisms there are off this gem of a cafe. It must be difficult having total dingbats walking into your cafe and then have them being rude about their experience, so good on you girl for not lying down and taking it. I wish your business every success and wish I were a local so I could be one of your regulars.

I have never known such a warm welcome from all the staff, especially the manager/owner- I presume? The food is delicious and being a vegetarian I often find it difficult in cafes as most cater largely for the meat eaters. You have clearly considered the veggies which is brilliant. Who new scrambled eggs on toast could be so delicious. Perhaps my favourite thing about this cafe is your ethos. Locally sourced ingredients and natural products seem to be used in everything. It was very busy when we visited but this can only be a good sign and this didn't reflect in the service given which remained outstanding. The food was also outstanding, rustic organic homemade delights. We would definitely eat here again.

On hols in Swanage we popped into Dorchester for some lunch. Looked at Prezzo but yawn...zzz...pasta and pizza...again! We wondered about a Costa hot wrap but then would have to cook in the evening in Swanage which we wanted to avoid. Went down a side alley and saw the Loft. Yes it's small, yes we nearly paid for the previous customer accidentally but went upstairs to wait for our Sausage, roasted veg and jacket with amazing filling (me) and chicken and pesto salad (my wife). Yes it took a while but was so worth the wait! An incredible couple of meals - my wife thought about licking the plate! The ladies were really nice and if we lived nearer it would be regular for us! Wonderful...

On a visit to Dorchester we fancied a cup of tea and stopped at this cafe which is in one of the narrow streets off the main shopping street. There is inside and outside seating and as it was a lovely day we sat out.You go in to order and they bring the drinks to you.The staff were friendly and the food we saw looked lovely especially the cakes. The staff were really friendly and efficient.Great place and we would definitely return.

Stopped here for a bite to eat and a coffee on a brief visit to the town. Loved the place, the food, and the coffee. Friendly staff, good selection of healthy food options. Great place to spend a few quiet moments reading the paper and sipping good quality coffee. Worth making the effort to find.

We had a lovely, relaxing lunch here today, after waiting for 10 minutes somewhere else to have our order taken. The food is all homemade and freshly cooked. We only wanted a snack and we each had a savoury pastry which was served with a side salad. Very good value for money. If you can, sit at the table in the window - lovely. The service is excellent.

What is there not to like!? Good efficient friendly staff and good menu. Suffering from food allergies we were delighted to find gluten and diary free food available. We decided on tea and cake for a late lunch in the end and the cakes were fabulous!! Especially the GF/DF Lemon cake - wonderful texture and flavour!! The décor is fun and modern and seating comfortable, staff are friendly and helpful. When in Dorchester again we will return!!

A great quirky little place, small seating available upstairs with lots of little touches to give it a good personality. Had an amazing pesto chicken salad, prompt service from cheerful staff.

Met friends at The Loft for coffee, Between us we had two well behaved dogs we were all welcomed warmly and dogs made a fuss of. The coffee was lovely, we chatted and then decided to stay for early lunch as the food looked so tasty. It was I had a cheese scone with grilled goats cheese and red pepper with mediteranean vegetable salad , others had homemade sausage rolls with onion marmalade and salad and quiches. All gorgeous freshly made on the premises

This is our favourite place in Lyme for coffee & cake or occasionally lunch but I’ve never reviewed it. Don’t know why. Sorry! Today we’d had lunch down the road at the Lyme Bay Cafe where the food was good but the service was awful. Wish we’d come to you for everything. As it was we had coffee and the most delicious cake we’ve had in ages. Guinness cake with a creamy top. Unbelievably good. The service was as happy and smiley as ever. Thank you!

Oh dear, we must have hit a bad day. We had chosen Brassica for a family get together lunch as we had read so many rave reviews. Three of us chose the pasta based autumn special, while the fourth wanted only a salad. The paste was very undercooked, and I do know the difference between al dente and being hardly able to get a fork into it and the whole dish tasting of raw flour. We pointed out the problem and the plates were returned to the kitchen. When they came back to the table the food was hotter but the pasta remained unchanged. One of the group was so hungry she ate it anyway, but the other two found it inedible. The salad was quite nice, but at £12 for a small bowl of dressed leaves with slices of orange and a few walnuts I thought it overpriced. The staff were very good and some money was taken off the bill for the uneaten food, but that was hardly the point, we had gone expecting a lovely lunch on one of the rare times we could all be together and instead left still hungry and deeply disappointed
