We went to White horse holiday park in Mettheringham near Lincoln. I took both my daughters (15 & 10) and it’s such a peaceful pretty location. Well decorated 2 bedroom lidge with hot tub & central heating! Spacious bathroom with lovely powerful shower. Nice and clean. Curtains in every window. Comfortable bed. Extra bedding if needed (but it wasn’t warm enough)! It is extremely remote …. About 20 mins from the shop so make sure you take enough snacks. There’s a bowling alley 20 mins away (Hollywood bowl) a mini golf and axe throwing, escape rooms & warehouse near lincoln which was fun (25 mins ish drive)! Enjoyable stay, comfy & clean. Food was good at the pub (white horse inn) Thai & English food with a pool table.Good selection of spirits, beers & wines too … enjoyable atmosphere. Good amount of crockery and cutlery, washing up Liquid, dishwasher tablet, tea towel etc …. Didn’t need anything other than food and drink. We enjoyed our stay. Thankyou.

We didn’t choose to stay here originally but the accommodation we did book at another site was double booked so Hoseasons offered us this place. Wish we had chosen something else. The lodge itself was lovely with the hot tub. But was lacking in lots of basics. Yes the site is in the middle of nowhere and we knew this and was happy to have some peace and quiet, we took our 2 dogs with us too. The lodge was not fenced off so we had trouble keeping an eye on the dogs. One of the maintenance guys was helpful and got us some extra outside furniture to block them in on the decking. He also got us a new remote control for the TV as it wasn’t working. The manager wasn’t much help when we arrived. He showed me to our lodge which was unlocked and floors just been washed. There was no microwave as shown in the pictures and amenities list. He said he would get me one the next day but we didn’t see him again! It was raining very heavy while we were there but there was no mop or door mat so the floor was getting really wet every time the dogs or we came in. We had to use the bath mat as there was nothing else. The pub was open at 5pm Friday and Saturday night. They advertise as having ‘traditional ales and food’ the only food they did was thai food of burger, hot dogs, chicken Nuggets with chips. As it’s so secluded you’d think they would sell proper pub food for the people staying there. They didn’t even start doing food until 6.30pm when we ordered at that time we didn’t get our burger until 7.30! It wasn’t worth the wait. The bed mattress was so uncomfortable we had to use the single bed duvets for under the sheet to lay on. The spare duvet in the wardrobe had stains and blood on it and no cover. The spare pillows didn’t have pillow cases on either. It all felt like it was cleaned in a rush. The hot tub wasn’t cleaned daily like other sites are. There was loads of tree bits in our hot tub from our feet on the decking and from removing the lid. There even looked like bits of skin in the hot tub! The lodge door wouldn’t lock without us banging it and having to lift the door at the same time. It was all very disappointing and wouldn’t go back there again.

Never eaten here though I believe they could be proving misinformation the their clientele. According to them the Bardney Heritage Centre is only a 47 Min walk. This would suggest they they are informing them that they can access there by walking along the riverbank towards Bardney. However this is a private riverbank with no public footpath. More importantly, there is a private residence/driveway at the Bardney Bridge with no public access/right of way into Bardney.

Disregard all reviews for the White Horse older than 3 weeks. It's just been re-opened under new ownership after being closed for 2 years. It was a lucky find because it doesn't feature in the latest Nicholson's waterways guide - yet! I had the jetty to myself but there was space for at least another 4 boats. Jeff and the barman Steve were most welcoming. The decor was new and tastefully done. The real ale was well kept, the food all freshly prepared; both were excellent and reasonably priced. While occupying an isolated and peaceful location on the south bank of the River Witham opposite Southrey, the White Horse should enjoy good business when the word gets out.

i ordered fish and chips (on a friday) expecting fresh grimsby fish in home made batter and got some cheap frozen supermarket fish. i don't believe anything my party ate was freshly prepared on the premises. such an out of the way place, it has to be worth the long, bumpy road and it was not. plenty of better, easier to get to places. There was reference when we arrived to a new chef, i get the impression there was a problem but if that was the case, the owner should have explained the situation

I am sorry to rate this as poor but as we drove here specifically to find it was closed, despite the sign at the beginning of a very long road stating open 7 days a week this is what I feel forced to do. When next in the area I will phone ahead to see if you are open and try again, then I hope to be able to re-rate.

We discovered this lovely pub, quite by chance, when the band that I play in, had the opportunity to play there a couple of weeks ago. When we arrived to set our kit up, there were quite a lot of people eating, and the food looked to be of an excellent standard. Unfortunately, access to the the pub is along a six mile long, single track lane and this along with a probable lack of knowledge of its existence, restricts the amount of people who visit there! The pub, however is very popular with the boating fraternity on the River Witham and there is a good sized jetty adjacent to the pub. The pub, itself is of an excellent standard, and the siting of the pub on the riverside and the very clean comfortable surroundings make it a little gem. We visited The White Horse on Sunday 1st June for Sunday lunch and were very well pleased at the quality and presentation of the food, along with the excellent value for money. At £11.95 for three courses (which we decided upon, on this visit) or £7.95 for a main course, we felt that it was excellent vale for money. I had Home Made Pate on toast for starters and my wife had Prawn Cocktail. Both of which were very well prepared and very tasty. For mains. My wife had Roast Beef with Yorkshire Pudding and Fresh Seasonable Veg and I had the Roast Gammon option again with Fresh Seasonable Veg. The Meat was perfectly cooked and the vegetables were prepared, to perfection, in my view!! ie not at all soggy and with a nice, crisp, crunchy texture (apart from the mashed potato, of course). Roast potatoes were also served up with the main courses. For desert, I had Spotted Dick and Custard and my wife had Home Made, Strawberry Cheesecake with fresh cream. All i all it was an excellent Sunday Lunch. I only gave the pub three out of five stars for Atmosphere and Romance, as we were quite early and there were only a couple of people there. The landlord however, made us feel very welcome. We will definitely visit again, but next time, on an evening for a Steak (all of which are very reasonably priced) including T-Bone and Fillet and come served with Home Made Chips. The pub is not open on Mondays or Tuesdays.

Please make the effort and head down Fen Lane to the bottom to the a White Horse Inn you will get a very pleasant surprise. Classic Country pub with outside seating area and large garden area next to a canal. We had a 50th birthday lunch for 15 in the function room which was free to hire. 👍 The chairs had covers on, I could set up the night before , the owners helped me set up and the room looked fabulous. The function room is an excellent size with a dance floor, additional tables for drinks and cakes and opening out onto a patio area and gardens. We ordered 2 course with a 2/3 choices for each course and I have to the say the carrot and orange soup was the best I have ever had. The main of steak pie with mash was great too. Everyone loved the food, the plates were full and we were full too and chips were homemade , we couldn't have asked for better. No complaints in fact only compliments. You can tell when a venue is good when the people don't leave straight after the meal and we arrived still 12.30 and were still there after 16.00 In addition to the function room there is B and B , rooms available ranging from £45 upwards, so don't rule out an evening function good value and excellent food. I have no doubts we will go down the fen again when the family meet up for a meal and if we need a function then this is where will go. As I say please ring up, book a table or even better a function and take a trip down the lane you won't be disappointed .

This is said to be the most rural restaurant in Lincoln. If you're travelling by car, you'll need to go out of your way. For us though, aboard narrowboat Epiphany, we could travel up the River Witham from Boston and moor for 48 hours less than 100 metres from the door. We often book a Sunday roast out and this weekend was to include such a lunch. However, when I went in to book after Saturday lunch onboard, my plans were to change. The restaurant is clean, tidy and the toilets confirmed my feeling that this place is special - you can tell, can't you? A chat over a good pint of Lincoln's Steep Hill with Vicki and John went on and on and when I looked at the menu the prospect of home-made pie and chips made me book for Saturday evening as well. We weren't disappointed - the Ham, leek and cheese pies with excellent home-made chips and perfectly cooked vegetables came up to everything we had hoped for and the careful attention of our hosts continued. Sunday lunch was up to the same standard of best value, home-made food for both courses. Though it wasn't cold, the glow of the wood fire added to the welcome. We won't be back for a while - our cruising moves us on. But if you live or boat nearby you must visit!

Had lunch here today, the pub is down a long lane on Dunston Fen right on the river,it's lovely inside, extremely comfortable and well furnished.I always moan that pubs just won't/don't bother to cook their own proper, real,un frozen chips, this place does and I promise you they're fantastic! loads of them and cooked to absolute perfection. My steak was delicious as was my wife's and daughters hunters chicken. The lady in the kitchen cooks lovely fresh food very very well,we will be back as soon as possible.

As a recent review has said, the new owners have been in since just before Christmas. I'm ashamed that we haven't been down since they took over as they are absolutely lovely and very keen to make it work with plans to have a children's play area ready for the nicer weather. They are also going to be offering bed and breakfast. The food we had was absolutely superb and although only a small menu at the moment, we would've been happy to have any of the choices. The Lamb shank Henry was fantastic as was the Hunters chicken my partner had. There was also a lovely big log fire going making it very cosy. Whilst we were there we had a look at the Sunday lunch menu which looked great and was excellently priced for 1,2 or 3 courses. John and Vicky are brave taking on the pub during the winter when it is quieter but we really hope people will go down and give them the support they deserve. John told us that they are closed Mondays and Tuesdays but open the rest of the week

Situated next to the River Witham, Moorings and Fishing Pegs are available to use. There are beautiful walks beside the River and the wildlife is in abundance. The drive down to the pub is fantastic, just look out for the Owls& Marsh Harrier etc, so drive carefully. The new owners who bought the pub in October 2013 are very friendly and welcoming, really make you feel at home. The food is home cooked and delicious.

The picture at the top of this page is not the white horse in dunston. It has recently been bought by john and is now run by him and his sister Denise. I was in on the opening night and again two weeks later. The food was excellent both times but the atmosphere is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. Add to that quality entertainment and you will have a great night out.

Its a bit of a trek down a single file country lane to get there but its well worth it. Situated on the banks of the river Witham and with its own static caravan site, its an idyllic location. The caravans are used by fishermen and families alike. The owners are welcoming and pleasant and the food is superb. You can choose whether to eat in the bar, restaurant or garden. In summer there are lots of BBQ weekends and in the winter there is a wonderful log fire and bar food. Sunday dinner in the restaurant is excellent. All very well priced as well. My companions tell me the beer is good. When you are "stuffed" you can then walk it off on the river bank.. If you don't go you will never know what you are missing

I endorse the comments made by Lincoln Edge. We dined here yesterday with my father-in-law and enjoyed a lovely lunch. The couple who run the pub are very frendly and welcoming. The scampi and chips were delicious followed by one of their warming puds and a delicious cafe latte. Location is stunning with far-reaching views across the fens. Quiet and peaceful - a real treat!

I have dined twice at the White Horse Inn since it re-opened: once with a family group including young children and once as a couple. The White Horse has a great location, tucked away in the Lincolnshire countryside south-east of Lincoln at the end of a straight road leading to an old ferry crossing on the River Witham. Ducks, narrow boats and fishermen are the only real 'noise' in the area! The restaurant and bar area have been pleasantly upgraded to a high standard of welcoming comfort without being distractingly appointed. A lot of effort has also gone into the presentation and ingredients of the main courses in the menu and the daily specials. I have particularly enjoyed the home made beef, mushroom and ale pie and the blade of beef. Portions are not massive but more than enough, with the emphasis on satisfaction by flavour and not beating down your taste buds with quantity. The staff were attentive to our needs on both visits, maintaining a balance between intrusion and attentive service. Both front of house and kitchen were very accommodating to dietary requirements and preparing a table, unprompted, for our little diners. In summary, the White Horse is accommodating and friendly, with pride in its menu and a small but good choice of real ale and beers to accompany. We will definitely be supporting the White Horse Inn with regular visits over the coming months.

Breakfast was nice. The service was a little frosty as was the temperature. There was a lot of people in coats and even scarves. I know heating is expensive but please turn up the thermostat a notch. This is the second time recently that I’ve been and I have been cold. 🥶 Nobody checked back on the breakfast but it was very tasty as was the coffee
