White Horse Cafe in Hambleton

White Horse serves delicious traditional fish and chips which you can eat in the on site restaurant or take away. The fish was generously sized as were the chips and all perfectly cooked. Service was very quick. A great value, lovely dinner.

It was my first visit with my friend and we decided to have fish and chips outside even though it was rather a grey day. Our lunch was an absolute treat despite the weather. We received such friendly helpful service at this immaculate and modern looking Fish & Chip Cafe. The fish was very tasty, beautifully white & cooked to perfection in light crispy batter. Our chips were the best I've eaten and made the whole meal an extraordinary experience. Even our cup of tea was delicious too. It was such a pleasure to have our lunch at the White Horse Cafe and my friend and I have been talking about it all day. Thankyou very much.. I'm certain this will be the first visit of many.

We are regular visitors to this fish shop and always eat in the restaurant on every visit the fish and chips and service are always first class but not last Friday we were very disappointed as always the service in the restaurant was great but the food was a let down the fish batter was very greasy underneath and the chips were dry and tasteless the place was very busy and I think the food was rushed because of this that should not be the case I would rather wait a few more minutes rather than the food be undercooked probably won't be back for a while .

A place it is very easy to be brief about. Excellent fish and chips served in a clean café, well packed and served by cheerful staff. £9. What’s not to like? very much recommended.

Asked if the mushy peas were real , was told yes of course we steep them overnight, they certainly not steeped dried peas they were tinned. Batter soggy but chips alright and a nice cup of Tea young waitress lovely, older lady grumpy . Service slow even though not busy at all

This is a cracking traditional fish and chip shop in Northallerton. The chips are magnificent and prices fair. Service is cheerful and quick.

Always come here for fish&chips but what happened last night with our food. The fish was chewy not flaky, like it had been hanging around for a while.The batter was soggy not crispy. Very disappointed, was looking forward to a good chippy tea. Not your usual high standard.

Fish and Chips are always beautiful here. Only down side is the restaurant prices to take out. I do understand adding a bit on for the series and costs of serving in a restaurant but the prices are not comparable considering the food is the same.

Really nice fish and chips. I'm from the seaside so tend to be picky, but been a few times and always good. The cafe upstairs is fairly small but always clean and friendly.

Not able to ring in an order to collect at set time, well used to this form of service from many fish and chip food suppliers were we lived previously. Time the business moved with the times like virtually all other fast food businesses have - very disappointed - Ian

Quality fish and chips to take away. Food is always fresh, huge range of products, and the only chippy in town I’ve found that still does scraps. Haven’t eaten in so can’t comment on that, but take out has always been consistently good both lunch and teatime

The best fish and chips ever. Unlike a lot of chippies they only have haddock and it's beautiful. The batter is crispy and not greasy. I'm not a potato eater so can't rate the chips but my husband doesn't leave any 😀 Fish and chips used to be a cheap meal but it isn't any more so you want quality and value for money and you get that here. The only thing lacking on the menu is the Holland's Steak and Kidney pudding but that's probably the Mancunian in me that's needing to adapt to Yorkshire ways. 😂

We have been to the restaurant two weeks in a row, having travelled from Wetherby. Both times the fish and chips have been delicious. The staff are also very friendly and parking is so easy. We will be back. Thankyou.

Not a place i would visit again. Over priced (or over charged) for a fish cake and about 15 chips with a drizzle of curry sauce cost just under £7. When i asked for a more robust wooden fork they charged 5p, i didnt mind paying but would of been nice to hace it offered, the additional 5p was taken as a card payment as i had no cash. Haha. Fish cake tasted like bleach or as it it had been prepped on a recently bleached surface. The place looked very clean inside but staff have a lot to learn about customer service. A smile would of been nice. 2 out of 10 for me.

Quite claustrophobic if full. Expensive compared to newer establishments in the area. Portions are a lot smaller than they use to be. Just a young school age girl on her own that even though she was lovely ,she wasn't experienced left tables dirty for a while

The fact that they do not take orders over the phone was not a problem, the way whoever answered the phone ranted at me about it was. We went elsewhere I would suggest that it should be made clear that they don't take food orders over the phone on their website.

Had a meal here with my daughter, my friend and my friends partner we decided to sit in the cafe which was lovely, me and my friend had a pensioner special and her partner had a regular fish and chips although there was not many chips with the regular portions of fish and chips and they only had haddock it was nice but i prefer cod , the fish was a normal size and a good size although for a pensioner special but it quite expensive but nice.

It's with a heavy heart that I'm writing this review. This evening I was on my way through town and I decided to get some fish and chips so I placed my order for 1 piece of fish and 1 fish and chips and a Ben shaw cloudy lemonade. I regret now that I didn't check my order bag before leaving because not only did I get my order but two additional boxes with fish and chips. I will say that despite the order issue the fish and chips was really good

Got home and there was no mushy peas which I paid for fish batter wet and greasy chips also greasy😞

My husband has been for 3 takeaways in a couple of months and all 3 times they have got the order wrong either thing’s missing and completely wrong ! There was too many people serving doing the order we are getting extremely fed up of this

My first visit since lockdown, but always been my favourite place to eat when in Northallerton. Well worth the drive from Newcastle for the fish and chips!

Was just wandering round the backside of Northallerton near the church and got a whiff of fish and chips from the white horse cafe, decided to give it a try. They obviously watch Gordon Ramsay because the menu was Spartan and simples, the fish and chips were a bit more than our local but they were really hot and tasty. Would definitely recommend

Had fish+chips for our wedding meal. It was amazing!! Everyone commented saying it was the best fish+chips they have ever had!! They also created us a custom wrapping paper with pictures of us on. Really good little touch!! Incredible, can not recommend enough!!

Takeaway service was fast, friendly and efficient. Don't let the covid queue outside put you off, 3 people inside only. Once you're in you won't be waiting long. Food was hot and tasty (we had fish and chips, peas and sausages). The cod was light and flakey, the batter soft and tasty and the chips were tasty too. The mushy peas were spot on; wet but not sloppy and with good texture. If you're toying with going to Katch or The White Horse Café, I'd go here.

So pleased our favourite fish & chip shop is open for business again. The restaurant’s two hard working staff were very welcoming, so efficient & pleasant while managing COVID rules & customers requests. The haddock & chips were an ample portion, cooked, as always, perfectly. Although busy with takeaways & upstairs in the restaurant, not long to wait for our meal. Would highly recommend.

Picked up fish and chips for the family on a Friday lunchtime. Doing a steady trade which is good to see in current climate. However, upon opening the box, the fish had stuck to the chips underneath as the batter was quite soggy - which made the chips soggy too.Nice tasting haddock but in a crisper batter would have made this meal more enjoyable. We usually use the shop at Thirsk but were keeping local during covid, hence using Northallerton. Would give another try.

Went into the restaurant and the fish and chips were really good. Would have given 5 stars except the new coffee they were trying out wasn't very nice.

Send here for my weekly fish and chip supper. Not sure if it’s me but has the quality of the chips gone down slightly? These days they seem rather soggy and also the portion sizes seem to have got a bit smaller since they introduced the new boxes which I do not like one bit.

Visited today and the food was excellent. We sat upstairs for our meal.The lovely young lady was exceptional. She was following the COVID guidance ( stood away from the table and wore the appropriate PPE )Her manner was so polite and welcoming.The food was hot and freshly prepared.This is a great place for food and friendly service

As a family we ate in the restaurant, service was efficient, food arrived piping hot, freshly coked and tasted great. Portions are good value for money. Environment is kept clean with safe Covid-19 measures in place.

Having tried both the take away and restaurant on a monthly basis for many years and would always recommend this as an great place to eat, today was a let down.Having previously had a take away on its opening during Covid 19 the price had gone up but the F/chips were excellent. However today they where the smallest portions (fish) imaginable, whilst the price rise can be justified due to Corvid the reduction in the size of fish is unacceptable. My wife did complain and another small piece of fish was added to one of the takeaways. If this is the new standard going forward we will not be returning or recommending them anymore which is a shame as over the years the standard has been so high.

Visit the restaurant usually about once a month,but covid 19 put paid to this.Yesterday,however,we visited (from home in Washington)and had the most delicious haddock and chips -with a separate bag of scraps.AbsolutelyBeautiful.The staff were very friendly and helpful.Perfect visit in every respect.Would definitely recommend.

Soggy batter, dry fish and small portions. £6.20 for a small fish and a few chips is extortionate. Staff are nice but the price is just way too much sorry guys.
