My fiance and I opted to go for a dining experience tonight and we absolutely loved our experience!! From our wonderful waitress and the gentleman behind the bar... service was exceptional. As for the food... just wow. We opted for the fixed menu which was full of flavour and so morish we had to push onto desserts. I just want to thank everyone for such a memorable experience and we are definitely coming back for more!!!

We cant thank the Crathorne Arms enough. We had our wedding party there and from start to finish they did a fantastic job. Nothing was to much trouble and every member of staff especially Arron were professional and gave us and our guests excellent service. We had a buffet the food was delicious , good beer and wines. This place is mediocre and, in my opinion, not able to justify its price tag. We came on a Sunday as I’m looking for a place that does a good Sunday dinner. On entry to the place we were not welcomed by the very harassed looking staff. We had to stand there awkwardly trying to catch their eye to the point it became extremely uncomfortable. There was a chap with dark hair who was pointedly ignoring us and when the waitress indicated we were waiting audibly said how busy he was at the moment which is such a rude thing to do. Even though he was chatting to a customer at the bar and didn’t look all that busy. He was a bit arrogant tbh. Not welcoming at all unless you’re a local maybe? On being seated the service was very slow but the serving ladies were really nice albeit fairly inattentive. It took around an hour and a half for two courses it was that slow… I ordered a beef dinner and it was mediocre, it wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great either. The beef was okay but the vegetables were all burnt. The roasties were reheated. You can always tell. In fact I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole thing was reheated tbh. The small amount of greens on the plate were ok, but I would have liked more. The Yorkshire was stodgy. Tbh it would be better to give people a serving tray of the veg so they can choose how much and little they want. The dessert was ok (ice cream) but small portion for the price tag. The chairs and tables are mismatched and out of alignment. My chair was so high compared to the table that it touched the top of my legs and was annoying. This place could be amazing if they improved the staffs customer service skills and put a bit more effort into the food.

We had their 'fixed price' menu - the a la carte menu was incredibly expensive. The decor is different, very elaborate, but a bit over the top for me. Service was good, but the young staff clearly lacked experience, and made a few small basic errors. The fixed price menu was restricted, and I felt that the portions reflected the fact that it was the cheaper alternative to the a la carte. O.K. for a special occasion, but definitely over-priced.

I have thought long and hard about writing this review However I can't stop thinking about our experience The food, the cost £248 for four people. 3 of us had 2 alcohol drinks, 1 had 1 alcoholic drink. I just wanted to factor that in to be fair My hubby and I are over from NZ original from the UK Visiting family and friends. We have been travelling all over over a 7 week period and unfortunately this place will leave a lasting memory, so not a good one. 3 of our starters were lovely but the rest of the dishes did not make the cut. We were recommended the Crathorne Arms by a number of people so didn't want to pass by the opportunity. My hubby had a prawn cocktail when I looked at his his face it was very disappointed 😔 he said the lettuce tasted better than the prawns. As for his fillet steak meal, he was I think was £44 quid it should of been perfect... I kept asking my hubby is it OK but he didn't want to make a fuss. For my hubby to even make a negative comment is NOT in his nature. But for me our friends had travelled a long way to join us and this place fell short of what we expected and left us shocked at the cost v food delivered. Maybe we just turned up on a bad day but it's important I think to leave this review. I know it's tough out there but we felt somewhat short changed.

I was extremely disappointed that this restaurant wouldn't cater for children and dietary requirements for Sunday dinner. We had to leave. Isn't family-friendly, which is a huge shame. Really need to sort out the Sunday dinner menu and be more inclusive in 2024! I was told they couldn't be at all flexible, clearly catering for a older generation.

I booked here for a family Sunday lunch before reading some of the reviews from the last few months. After reading them I must admit I was a little nervous. A business that does not respond to reviews good or bad is not good, its just idle. So we went along, with 2 of our party being gluten free its always a challenge. Well to be fair it was well above average and all our party was happy with what they had. However they did not produce a Yorkshire pudding that was gluten free but still wanted full payment, even an Aunt Bessies would be better then nothing, it appears the chef is either lazy or incapable. When challenged it was explained that they made everything from fresh and gluten free Yorkies was a non starter. However they did have gluten free bread, this was not home made so the excuse did not make sense to me. The service was slow and when we wanted more drinks I had to leave the table and go to the bar. Overall not a bad experience but with a little more attention to detail could be very good.

Sunday lunch: Superb seafood pancakes for both of us. Excellent roast beef for one of us. My roast cod looked good BUT it was only just lukewarm - just edible to a point - I ate two thirds by which time it was nearly cold. In addition there was so much liquid on the plate that the creamy mash turned into a sort of soup. I mentioned it but a waitress and she did offer to get another but I couldn't be bothered to wait. Treacle tart for two. Excellent presentation except that here was just a trace of whatever sauce it was supposed to be served with and again it was at room temperature when it should have been warm/hot. Finally I asked three times for my bill but in the end had to go and get it myself. This is a pity as all previous visits have been good but not this time.

Don’t bother with Sunday dinner, can’t cater for dietary requirements or children. Was hugely disappointed considering this should be a family pub. There is not even a full Sunday dinner offering, just chicken or beef and what we received wasn’t well presented, mainly just fat and cold vegetables. Think they need to get into 2023 and offer better options for vegetarians, vegans and children or continue to alienate everyone under the age or 50.

It looked fantastic, but the meat was mainly fat, the Yorkshire was okay, then the rest of the plate was all jus/carrot purée/ two tiny potatoes and a tiny pot of brocolli and cauliflower cheese was shared (which was bland). Where are all the proper veggies? The purées mushed tiny portion of red cabbage on the plate just mixed in with the gravy and couldn’t be tasted. One of us had the veggie ‘cauliflour steak’ and it was just a plate of cauliflour with some cut up grapes on top?! Also the children’s Sunday dinner was £10.95. So disappointing. Have 2 stars as the atmosphere is lovely, staff are lovely and place is cosy and inviting but the food is all fur coat and no knickers.

The lamb was under cooked and needed a lot more rendering down. It was also stone cold !! The burger was horrendous, very dry. Fishcakes could have been Great if they weren't over salted!!! Went to have lunch here on the recommendation of a friend Had also seen the venue on Gone Fishing with Mortimer and Whitehouse and so had high expectations Both my wife and I went for the haddock and chips with mushy peas. Cost at time of meal was £20 each It was the friend who recommended the venue that we went with and did not want to upset him by complaining at the time But Wife and I both agreed afterwards that: The fish was dry and bland The chips were overcooked and greasy The peas were tasteless Upon returning home we recounted the day to our grown son who works in hospitality. He suggested that if the chef did not get our feedback how could he know anything was wrong and therefore improve what is served So I am leaving this feedback hoping it will be used in a constructive way To justify the title of the feedback, the last time we had fish and chips was from a takeaway in Saltburn. They were about half the price and significantly more palatable A three star rating was still given though because the venue was really good as were the serving staff A different meal choice might have given a different experience

Excellent pub, excellent food, poor service by one waitress, let it down. Ordered a small white wine, and she brought a bottle of white wine. As she took the order, she should have realised the mistake before bringing it to the table. I pointed out I ordered a small white wine, and she said she would get it changed. (No apology) glass of white wine arrived. As we had only had our starters, I then asked her to make sure that I wouldn't be charged for the bottle she assured me I wouldn't be but didnt look like she cared. After our 2 course meal I then asked the same waitress for our bill, as I wasn't convinced that the bill would be correct I checked it and sure enough I was charged for the full bottle of wine. So I called the same waitress over and explained that I had been charged for the full bottle she rolled her eyes at me and went to get it sorted. It then came back with a medium wine on it and not a small wine like it was originally ordered no apology by this time i was losing the will to live. I dont need the stress of keeping staff right when out for a meal. It's a shame as apart from that the food was excellent. We always tip between 10-20% but don't if we've had issues. Due to her not caring, I was reluctant to tip and I won't rush back as I should be able to enjoy a relaxing meal and expect a waitress to get it right in the first place and she let her Co workers down as they were all lovely and busy. We felt as the food was great. we went to the bar to pay the bill and left just £5 tip as an acknowledgement that the food was good. I can't even say its a training issue more like she couldn't care, less, which is a shame as she let the pub down.

Think of a flavour, multiply by 10, seems to be the key to the wonderful rich tasting dishes we tried from the Prix Fixe menu. No piddling bits of this and that here, just proper amounts of excellent quality ingredients, perfectly cooked with gusto. The hanger steak was superb though in our opinion the potatoes served with the sea bass should have been cooked until soft enough to eat, but otherwise a great value lunch. Gloriously decadent fin de siecle decor, with abundant mirrors, old photos, twinkly lights, beads etc providing a joyful atmosphere. Service was friendly, accurate and spot on as you might expect. We went to celebrate a special family occasion on 13th June after reading good reviews. After having to seat ourselves and going to the bar for drinks 30mins later our orders were taken. This was the theme for the rest of the evening, going for our drinks, including the bottle of wine for the meal. Definitely not restaurant service. Very long waits in between courses. It appeared that diners outside had the attention of the staff. Four out of seven of the diners were very unsatisfied. Burnt sourdough on starters, extremely chewy steaks, different sides from the menu, melted ice cream and burnt black crumble. I voiced my concerns to the waitress on leaving as we were not asked if everything was ok with the meal. We felt totally over looked. I sent an email the following morning, to which I had no response so contacted them again to see if they had received it - still no response. I would definitely not recommend this place as it spoilt a very special occasion and would not be writing this review if they had the decency to reply to me.

Food and atmosphere great but felt a little conned as went for evening meal during Teesside Restaurant Week but they weren't actually doing an offer despite having an evening meal menu on their FB page from the previous Teesside Restaurant week at the point I booked. They sneakily had a lunchtime offer on their menu badged as a 'Teesside Restaurant Week' offer but when I looked this was already £20 usually so felt a little bit like I'd been tricked.

We went here for my grandads first heavenly birthday. There was more than 20 of us in our own room. The beef was gorgeous 😍 and overall a lovely pub. Will definitely return if I'm ever in the area again. Thank you

My Sunday dinner. We'll roast potato and Yorkshire pudding were overcooked and like rubber. The carrot puree was carrot gravy. Roast beef was 50% fat. I pitely explained to the waitress why my plate looked the way it did. She told me she would pass that on to chefs. NOTHING. NO RESPONSE except the bill. Comete waste of £25. Never again

The golden lion Sunday lunch use to be the best in town but since they started putting vegan butter on everything including the stuffing!! Sorry but not everyone likes the taste of butter. Rest of the pub is brilliant

Traditional village pub. This time we visited for the little annual steam fair which they host. Enjoyed a pint in the sunshine on the village green and looking at the working exhibits. No charge. Recomnended.

Took my husband for his birthday. Got his main and dessert free, because it was his birthday (you have to prove it - we saved almost £40). Fish goujons was a bit underwhelming. Crab cakes looked great. Pork loin, and lamb duo was superb. No information was given about the cheeses on the cheese plate. Brilliant evening.

Met up with family for late dinner late on Sunday. Everyone enjoyed their choices. Another family had a large table so there was a good atmosphere.

Always fun, attentive bar staff, beautiful looking traditional pub. Great decor. Good prices. Land lady and family are extremely friendly and charming.
