Met an old work colleague here for a catch-up. Brilliant atmosphere and a reasonable GF friendly menu. Fish and chips absolutely delish. Will be back!

I absolutely love the experience you get in the White Horse. It's a rather wonderful throw back to the days of exceptionally well kept ale and freshly prepared outstanding meals. My latest visit was yesterday lunchtime. The White Horse opens at 10:30am, but I arrived around 11:30ish and ordered a pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord, this was a fantastic pint and without doubt the best pint I'd had since my previous visit! The ale is always great at The White Horse. The service was very friendly and attentive as it always is here. As the clock ticked past 12pm I ordered the home made mushroom soup with French bread and the lamb ciabatta with roasted peppers, both from the specials boards. At only £6.50 and £7 respectively they were great value for money, but most importantly they were delicious. All the food at the White Horse is freshly prepared and, unlike the vast majority of pubs and food chains, the pub supports local businesses by buying fresh meat from the local butchers and actually cooking you a meal rather than 'nuking' it in a microwave!! The proprietors Ashley and Gary poor their hearts and soul into this establishment. And all the hard work really shows in the exceptional experience regulars like myself receive at the White Horse time and time again. I only ever see happy contented people in the White Horse and frankly I'm staggered there aren't more objective, highly complimentary reviews on here. Human nature that people will rarely commend great experiences and are quick to write subjective, unbalanced, unfair and damaging reviews. I've been to The White Horse dozens of times and, as my experience shows yesterday, it remains the best public house in the area by far.

Superb food, staff and an authentic atmosphere. We really enjoyed our dinner here while visiting Suffolk.

Have been coming to the White Horse, once a week, for several months and mostly, especially in the past when the Management seemed excellent, but the last 2 Friday events have been most disappointing. The first was when, after driving from Hadleigh area, there were no fish and chips on a Friday at 12.45pm, we had an alternative lunch. In times gone by fish and chips day was mostly on Friday so this was unbelievable as we were not arriving, say, at 2.0pm to expect a lunch. 2 days ago we arrived at approximately. 1.0pm but were told there was only one serving of fish and chips left. This time, we too left, as this was no joke. Made our way to a lovely local fish and chip establishment to have very good fish and chips served in less than 20 minutes. Looks like our future at the White Horse will be limited to "drinks only"

Decent drink selection - has Beavertown on tap! Live music at weekends, decent stop on a night out

We had a lovely time here and enjoyed the meal to, warm atmosphere with friendly staff members would recommend to all who visits this pub.

Didn't eat there but decent pint, very friendly and hard working young staff and a friendly atmosphere.

We went on a quiet night but the food was good with excellent service. Lots of outdoor seating, lovely when warm like in our visit.

Couldn't even get a drink yobs loud!! We were 2 couples aged nearly seventy! Give up! Think all on coccaine and drink disgusting!

Well kept real ales and good food

Quiet day, lovely food, partner loved the way the ploughman's was served. Way too much for our appetite, but great value for money. Good variety, served brilliant and quickly.

Would never normally fault it but when we are told you cant be bothered to put cheese on the food and your not happy we want custard with our dessert.. fully deserved. Hopefully a bad day and a one off

Very polite staff, all you need for a lovely meal clean and tidy, table service no pressure how long you staying, the only disappointment is no wheel bond people facility.

4 drinks (rum and coke, vodka and red bull, vodka and coke and disaronno and coke) came to £38, which is rediculously high but the food is nice and the band nights are good fun.

Had a roast dinner. The food itself was good however the gravy was way too watery.

Food was great value for money. Service was brilliant on a very busy evening thanks to Zoe helping customers, managing the bar, food orders and clearing tables. Also dog friendly. Will be back.

My son and I visited yesterday for lunch, first time for both of us, we were attended and served by a really lovely young Irish woman. We chose the Charcuterie Board, 3 dishes from their Tapas menu and a side of Onion Rings. My favourite-the honey and mustard cumberland sausages and the battered cauliflower wings (Superbly delicious) from the Tapas. The onion rings were big and homemade and tasty. The only downside was that the beer garden cannot be accessed by wheelchair users and the first step up to the garden is quite high and as someone with mobility issues and uses two sticks I did find it difficult but once up, totally enjoyed their outside space. Definitely worth a visit.

Used to come in here for lunch every week but lately its The worst place to go for customers service I have ever experienced. Staff rude.

Very busy which is a good sign unfortunately needed more staff to cope,they tried there best. Food was good when it came and reasonably good value. Was quite a wait but staff informed us of this having eaten there earlier we were happy to wait.

Good traditional pub with the usual pub fare

We went for an early Saturday evening meal. The food choices were varied and we all agreed our meals were lovely and the portion size very good. It seemed a nice unpretentious place, very popular and standing room only by the time we left.

Had ham eggs & chips. The eggs were cooked perfectly. Lovely Ham with hand cut chips. My husband had Hunters Chicken with skinny chips. We sent compliments to the kitchen and both cleared our plates.

Possibly the best sirlon steak in Sudbury. 3 of us had the steak, beautiful quality, the food was perfect. It was Good Friday so quite busy. The staff are young but extremely efficient and very up beat. We will be back on Sunday for the much acclaimed roast. Extremely good value.

Came with my wife and daughter for a super little meal, with top service from the lovely female owner who went above and beyond to make our visit special. She not only took time out to chat, but made my daughter feel very special. Then came the fantastic food from the highly regarded chef which blew our socks off - all at an affordable price. Will DEFINITELY return! Thank you!

Great pub with a good choice of beers on tap. Very well managed and in an excellent location. Top marks for service. Update to my review a year ago. This is still the best pub in Sudbury.

Used the online form to book a table for me and my girlfriend and didn’t get a confirmation so we phoned up and was told to email directly and we still got no confirmation and turned up to an empty pub to get told there was no seats available. Very poor service will not attempt to come back again.

First time had lunch @ The White Horse and the vegetarian option was delicious! Served promptly. Nice atmosphere on a Sunday afternoon, it’s good to book a table sometimes as they can be very busy. Definitely will come back!

This was a pit stop en route to our NYE destination. A meeting point with friends and a bit of lunch. Nice pub, friendly atmosphere and humongous portions! I decided on a jacket potato, thinking...not too heavy...WRONG! it was as big as me head!!! Biggest potato I think I've ever had. I know they can be hit and miss but this was lovely and great value. Everyone's meals were similar proportions. Recommend.

We came to the White Horse for our work Christmas meal. It was a lovely evening out. The food was perfect (I am a strict vegetarian and fussy) can't find fault with the roast dinner I had and everyone else who had meat enjoyed every bit too. Nice and hot, plenty of gravy (topped up when required) and a good size plate full. Nice atmosphere and friendly attentive staff. Will definitely be going back in 2024.

Nice town centre pub, friendly staff, good atmosphere and the best Abbot Ale in the area.

Had a lovely lunch of Steak & Ale pie with Chips, side of gravy and with greens. Super tasty and the service was brilliant. The White Horse should definitely score more than the 3 stars it was, or indeed had. I have no hesitation in recommending the White Horse for a delightful lunch in traditional English pub. You will not find a better pint of IPA, perfect everytime.

Usual greenking pud and food, dog friendly and welcoming

This was our first visit, but not our last. Great location for a low-key afternoon, a very relaxed atmosphere, we didn't eat however the food looked great! When I say low-key, I refer to needing somewhere chilled to relax and chat with friends over a couple of drinks. Clean, immediate service for drinks but the loss of 1 ⭐ because members of our group probably would have eaten if asked.

Went here late Friday night, party of 7 ,hardly anyone about, pub nearly empty although staff were okay. Beer selection ok .Sudbury certainly hasn't a vibrant night life.

Came here for work, and was greeted in a friendly and welcoming manner by the staff. I tried one of the homemade sausage rolls and I was completely blown away, the best I've ever had! While sitting and eating I noticed an elderly customer walking unsteadily, within seconds the Landlady had appeared out of nowhere and was arm in arm with the lady and helping her to her seat. The attitude of the staff and owners of this pub is a credit to not only themselves, but is reflected in the demeanour of the regular clientele. Altogether a fantastic pub with wonderful staff and service. I highly recommend coming here, you won't regret it!

What a find this establisment was :) ! - Our lunch was absolutely delicious. My husband had the pasta with a chorizo/tomato sauce which he pronounced to be excellent. Due to the heat & humidity on the day, I wanted something smaller and chose the bap with cod goujons which was served with a side salad. Just the job. We can't praise the food enough. Also the excellent customer service, what a lovely waitress we had. Nothing was too much trouble. We observed the same with other customers as well. We will be more than happy to dine there again next time we visit Sudbury

We pre-booked a table for food before visiting The Quay Theatre for a Saturday show. What a fabulous experience at this Greene King pub. As this is a rented pub from GK the guys have been able to create their own menu and boy does it show. My wife and I picked two of the '3 for £13' Tapas dishes so we could share all six between us. They were ample and very tasty. Special mention to the team for the excellent service with nothing being too much trouble. Just fab thank you.

Green King value. 6 x tapas dishes to share. All good and excellent salt and pepper squid. Really good garlic mushrooms, huge portion of sweet potato fries. Bargain at 3 dishes for £13.

Great pub, great food, great service. Been there a few times in recent weeks for both drinks and or food. Went for our works meal in March and the service was among the best I’ve received anywhere. The staff were super attentive, youngsters get a bad wrap these days but the staff members who looked after us were magnificent. Always on hand to ask if drinks were wanted, anything to go with the meal and just general help. A real credit to the pub. The food is very nice, served in good time, served by staff who look like they enjoy being there. A good selection of draft beers and bottles too. Me and my partner said we’d go back after the work do and we did, and we will again. All in all a really nice place to eat.

This is a fantastic pub. Ideally located in the heart of Sudbury. It's a real credit to the couple who run this pub. Fantastic service, exceptionally well kept beer, excellent food offering and always excellent value. Shout out to Sarah who runs the bar at lunchtimes who is always courteous, professional and works her socks off. Five star, well done.

Whilst there are hundreds of tenanted and managed Greene King pubs in Suffolk I'd wager that you will not find a better one than The White Horse in Sudbury. From the moment you walk through the door you are greeted with a warm and professional welcome. The service I've received in this pub is as good as any I've experienced. The daytime offering is always outstanding, thanks largely to Sarah behind the bar, who is an exceptional staff member, courteous, attentive and with a fantastic work ethic. It's very clear the couple who run this establishment are hard working and on the ball. The real ale is always spot on, the food is very reasonably priced too and great quality. Shout out to the Irish Stew I enjoyed today! As for value for money, well, as an example, I ordered a pint of Timothy Taylor Landlord, A large pinot grigio, Scampi and Chips and the Irish Stew for £28!!! Incredible value. Thank you to everybody at The White Horse, well done.

8 of us had a friends lunch here today. We all ordered different things and were all happy with the service,, food, quality, portion size (plenty of food). Would recommend to anyone. There is a children’s menu too. I have a chicken burger and sweet potato fries - the sweet potato fries option is with a small supplement. The food was hot, the fries were crispy and the chicken was moist and not over cooked and chewy. Other dining companions had wraps, chips and fries, hunters chocked and all thoroughly enjoyed their meals I have previously had tapas here and can highly recommend that too

Nice enough town centre pub. For me it always seems to have good guest ales (at least 2) from quality local breweries and these are served well at a decent price. Can't really fault the place for a quick drink of cask ale.

I went to the meet Jeff Stelling night on Wednesday , what a great night it was , Jeff was friendly and very funny , as always the service was excellent all the staff are polite and attentive, well done Gary and Ashley you deserve to do well keep it up

One of the few places to eat in Sudbury open on a Monday evening. Good selection of beers, including at least 3 cask ales, at sensible prices. Menu was unadventurous but the food was perfectly cooked and presented. Friendly, efficient staff. We were impressed enough to change our plans and return the following evening.

As a vegan I tried the Sunday vegan roast. The meal was not only a big portion but also scrumptious. The sauce and gravy over the meal also enhanced the flavor. A bit pricey but well worth it for the experience as an American searching for a roast. It's as good as it's going to get.

Friendly service and good food. The picture doesn't really show how massive this portion was, I couldn't eat it all despite it being really lovely.

If you have not been here to have the Tapas, you are missing out. Garlic Mushrooms and honey coated sausages are to die for. The only downside is they are so tasty you eat the lot then end up stuffed.. Staff are great too. We eat here quite frequently ever since we found the place (oh, and their cheesecakes are beyond expectations too).

Sunday lunch was enormous and well cooked. Great value. The staff were polite and friendly. Perhaps they could introduce some of the great meal and drink offers they have at Moreton Hall near Bury St Edmunds
