A free house and proper unpretentious small back street local, just a 5 minute walk from St Alban's city centre but a world apart from the pubs you will find there. A fine and interesting selection of cask and keg beers (which I expect changes all the time) give this pub an almost micropub feel, although it's in a traditional pub building. A simple food menu - the fish finger sandwich comes highly recommended! Just what I was looking for.

My wife and I are vegetarian and we go to the White Hart Tap whenever possible, for a Sunday lunch. Their Nut roast is the best we have ever had. The roast potatoes are cooked from fresh, unlike the oven potatoes you find elsewhere. If I still have room, I follow it with an apple and berry crumble, which is beautiful. The other food looks good and I'm sure must be of the same high standard.

First visit here and was very impressed. Lovely big back garden with loads of tables and chairs, plenty of seating out the front and some at the side of pub. Didn't have any food but it did look good. A few good real ales on and a few pale ales. Staff friendly, will be back

Felt like we had interrupted something when we walked in. Tables were reserved so could only stay a short while. More of an eatery now than a Pub. No atmosphere to speak of. Used to be a nice little boozer but obviously changed with the times. Team were polite enough

I go here a fair bit, it's good, but the staff are strangely rude, all of them. Very few smiles. They don't mess around kicking people out for example, not sure why, maybe they have had bad experiences with customers. I tend to walk on egg shells and be super nice with them to try and make sure they don't get cranky with me. If my visit passes without any confrontations with the staff etc I consider it a win.

I've never experienced such a bad atmosphere in a pub! Everyone in there was so rude to us, including one of the bar staff. I have a feeling it's a regulars pub and new people aren't welcome. In the 4 hours we were in there we had bad interactions with 5 different people. Might sound like we were the problem, but we can't think of anything we would have done, and we've never had this kind of treatment in a pub before. Would suggest avoiding unless you're planning to be a regular. Real shame as the food was good and the building has a nice feel to it

Extremely rude female behind the bar. I came in and was ignored by staff, a female approached the bar and said 'Can I help' in a rude way. I said 'I just have a question' and the female says 'I will serve other people first then'. After waiting for other people at the bar to be served, another female approaches and said 'Can I help?' I asked 'What time are children allowed in till?' The other female goes back to the rude female and returned saying 'Technically it's 9pm but I am not allowing children in'. After spending all of 2 minutes in the bar area I could see that the pub was dirty and smelt of toilets, not a place I would want to bring my child!

Nice pub with a very good small selection of well kept beers which changes regularly. Decent food as well but the chips are strange, a bit like oven chips sometimes. Most food great though and specials change regularly and have some nice things. Cosy pub inside with nice staff and there is decent beer garden to the side, and a few tables out the front for nicer weather. They do a great beer festival, and sometimes music too which is good. Pub quiz is Wednesday but very late in the evening for some reason - 9pm for a midweek. Worth a visit

Used to be a great pub before covid. Since then, though, it's become complete unfriendly. Everywhere else is back to normal, but the White Hart Tap is still insisting on table bookings and not letting people just walk in and stand around the bar. They more-or-less told us to get out on Saturday because we hadn't booked and they felt it was 'too busy'. You're a pub, it's supposed to be busy! Real shame because it used to be so great. But they obviously don't want our business, and it's not like there aren't plenty of other pubs around St Albans.

After a long day walking through St Albans and visiting Roman museum and Theatre finding this little pub in a side road was heaven, not crowded, socially distanced tables and welcomed by a very friendly smile from the barman who made us feel very welcome. We had a table for 2 in a quiet corner ans ordered 2 of their award winning pies(they have 4) steak and ale and mushroom and ale. We don't usually order pies to avoid disappointment but those were delicious, fine crust and filled to the brim with quality, tasty filling. Served with fresh vegetables, creamy mash potatoes and a small jug each of tasty gravy. And for only £9.99, it was a find. They also had a good choice of other items on their menu including a range of home made desserts.. The atmosphere was very friendly, dogs were welcomed and the house friendly tabby completed the picture The perfect end to a lovely day and before our 2 hours journey back to West London.... Thank you to all the friendly staff at White Hart Tap, you really look after your customers. We'll be back!! :)
