First ever visit here and was very impressed. Very good choice of drinks with some real ales and craft beers. It was a Saturday afternoon and there was a fab live band on. They had a bloke making fresh pizza's. Inside they had rugby on one tv and football on the other, there was something for everyone. Staff friendly and helpful.

Lovely, friendly place which marriages the traditional pub with craft beer offerings that these kind of places do so well. Three real ales on cask, five taps on independent craft brewers, as well as a good selection of cans/ciders in the fridges. Cracking garden too.

Madge found this good bar serving great real ale. Very small inside yet had a live band playing. Walked into a Byrds rendition of I feel a whole lot better. Pretty good cover. Large side beer garden on a slope, careful sitting down! Madge had a pint of Woodfordes Wherry from Norfolk. Good choice.

I popped into the pub with some friends and had a lovely evening listening to the group and enjoying a drink

It was the only place that did food on Friday night and offering some beers. The new chief is makings a very good burgers and amazing dishes, could see them coming it from the kitchen. the atmosphere was a bit odd but otherwise is a good pub

Always great beer and a friendly welcome. The live music events make for a buzzing atmosphere, and the chef serves fine fare. Just what a pub should be!

Went for a Sunday Roast by Bannermans on Two courses for 18.95 which is very competitive for around here. Having tried a few roasts around the pubs in st Albans this definitely hits the top tier in food quality and value for money. We had mussels and Halloumi Salad to start followed by lamb and chicken roast. They also offer dessert as a three course option for 21.95 but we were too full ! Wish we had room though as chocolate tart sounded very tempting. The menu is tweaked weekly which gives variety. We will be going back so recommend giving them a visit. Plenty of beer selection in the bar too to wash down the roast with!

They have totally embraced the craft beer scene. They have loads. The pub is very well 'lived in' but it is a pub that sells great beer & does live music stuff in the garden. They also have lots of craft cans in the fridge. The beer festivals they have are excellent, lots of really good beers - Polly's & Azvex to name a few. A great pub 🙂🍺

Myself and my boyfriend walked into the Farmers boy where we were ignored for a good 5 minutes before the bar person appeared from out back somewhere (and it wasn't busy) we quickly decided it would be best to have swift half and move on. There was a gentleman drinking a pint in the corner of the pub. My other half ordered a half of Guinness which he regularly drinks and I had a half of hoppy pale ale we sat down and sipped our drinks, firstly I noticed the ale was really warm and it was hazy (when it's not a hazy beer) His Guinness smelt sour he didn't even take a swig, the gentleman ordered another pint of the beer he was drinking which had run out, the bar person had said it had run out and she didn't know what was on and made it clear she wasn't going to check the cellar to change anything. He chose another beer which she poured and it was fobbing quite badly and came out looking like custard, he obviously didn't know a good beer if it hit him in the face as he continued to drink the monstrosity. My other half complained about his Guinness and asked if any had been poured off today, she lied and said that a few pints had been sold that day but no one in that right mind would drink that beer without vomiting. She did replace it with something different as requested, but the glass was so dirty he ran his finger across the rim and a sludge had come off the glass, we left our beers and walked out . Absolutely awful beer, awful service and toilets smelt like body odour mid afternoon on a Monday.

Went here a lot when we lived in St Albans. This pub stays open longer than most other pubs in the area. Good selection of craft beers and they got live music on weekends.

I love this place. They have a good beer selection included a real craft beers, and the staff is very friendly. They have a big patio, and they play good music too. I can recommend it.

Staff polite and attentive which is always a lovely thing, but wow forget about using the WC is your kale,or if you must take a vomit bag with you. Disgusting, vomit inducing, vile only way to describe the thing, they need to take some of the profits over the bar and rip entire WC out and get one fit for purpose,God knows why they have so many rave reviews mmmmmm. So avoid and wash your feet on way out the WC lads. God knows what the female toilets are like, I shudder to think, but wow outside toilet they have a hand sanitizer ehhhh really why.

Been there first time. Love this place. Nice atmosphere, great staff, good service. What else u need. Oh yeah great craft beers on tap, cask & keg. Amazing variety. Plenty of seatings as well as lovely beer garden at the back. Small bar serving in garden beer. The guy at bar was friendly n helpful. Had spent quality time there n enjoyed my drinks. Thanks to the staff team. Recommended n coming there again soon

Had a great time lovely pub and a great 60s band

This must be the most traditional of traditional pubs in St Albans. The relatively small bar feels like you’re in your Grandma’s best front parlour, although I don’t remember my Nan having a well-stocked bar! A Mecca for craft ale fans, and open until 2am on Fridays and Saturdays, results in it getting very busy. I didn’t get to see the garden and haven’t attended the Saturday live music events; hopefully next time.

We had a lovely time yesterday. Amazing food and even better service from Alton. Very charismatic and attentive. Will definitely be back. My little dog loved the extra fuss that was made of her too.

Lovely place, really enjoyed it until I got the bill of £9 for one pint of beer. After asking why the price was so high, I was told it's an imported American beer. Well, maybe put up a price list first, might help yes. Not happy.

Manager was out of order, my mate had taken his bike through the gate into their garden while I went to the bar, manager went out f'ing and blinding at him could have just asked, not like the gate was locked

Though the interior and clientele can occasional shock this is an excellent haunt to finish off a drinking nighout

I was very, very drunk in this place the other night. I can't recall much about it apart from the quality of the beer, which I remember was very well kept and poured.

Good old fashioned pub and good food too. Only criticism is that is VERY small and clostrophopic inside. But staff are friendly and beer is good

The farmers boy pub is fabulous

Went on a Saturday with a few friends. Really good selection of beers on tap, all served a the right temperature. Decided to order food, was getting concerned when 30mins had passed since ordering but it was worth the wait! Real beef chilli on the burger and genuine grilled bits of chicken in the burger. No nasty supermarket fries, genuine cut and roasted wedges. Everybody in the group of 5 were thoroughly impressed.

Brilliant pub. Extensive range of beers, both on the bar and in the fridge. Decent food. Great beer garden.

Would be going back here again. Great selection of ales and it's really a no nonsense pub. Good sitting space outside and can accommodate large groups as well.

This is a very nice pub with a good selection, it is a bit hectic when busy but that is to be expected with the size!

Noisy, unhelpful, rude staff and annoying punters who think they own the world. People push you to get through the door as they constantly have the street outside as part of extended drinking area. Despite having a garden, the pub would prefer they used the street. Several lock ins weekly. Breaches licencing laws almost every day.

Boy was that an experience. Great for a very relaxed night out.

Currently the best, and best value, Sunday lunch in town. Great selection of beers and nice regulars who are happy, and able, to engage in conversation about almost anything
