White Cart in East Renfrewshire

We have been meeting at the White Cart for years, but have noticed on the last few visits, that there seems to be a lack of staff. We waited a long time for our main meal to come. Then, after the main course, we were brought the dessert menu, but waited at least half an hour, and then had to go and find a member of staff to place our order. The same happened when we wanted the bill, and then to pay it. Each time we had to go and find a staff member. This seems to have been the case at the White Cart for a while, as I complained of the same thing around seven months ago. On a positive note, the steak pie was delicious, and Lauren, the young waitress, was working very hard to keep up with everything, and appeared to be doing a lot on her own. But, due to the drop in standards, we will be looking to meet elsewhere in future.

Lovely restaurant. We've eaten here many times. Easy parking. The food is good quality. Great service on this visit from Kerry and the other staff members. Enjoyed our evening.

We must have arrived shortly after opening time on a Sunday morning for breakfast as we were the only customers. We received a friendly welcome and were shown to a good table. The breakfast menu was reasonable both in terms of content and price. The food was good as was the service. It’s been a while since I was last here but I will definitely be back soon.

Waitress attended to all our needs and wants! Was extremely professional and polite and gave good recommendations! Wish staff were like this in every restaurant. Well done White Cart 😀

Amazing place for family get togethers or a quiet drink, also a great place for a wake and good food and reasonable prices for drinks and a large car park to park a car or coach

I went in here with my family and it was a very unpleasant experience. The staff that worked out front could be described more like a high school clique than a place of employment. The staff that served us was very dismissive to my father with them taking a very long time to get to our table to begin with. The food was decent but nothing to be praised for the premium they charge. I really do not recommend coming here with your family if you want a quiet experience.

Used to visit Whitecart regularly but not been for about a year, had a meal last night and had probably the worst over priced fish and chips I've ever had. More batter than fish plus the batter was rock hard, crunching in my mouth like I was eating rock. Been a while since last there probably be as long again before we go back. Service was good and staff friendly, shame about the over priced food and drink.

Expensive drinks (£9 glass of wine, £6.70 draught IPA), reasonably priced food.

Just a quick review to say a massive thank you to Kerry & Victoria who provided a fantastic service during our visit on Sunday for evening dinner. They are super helpful for anybody who has an intolerance to milk, they will bring an I-pad with a menu just for you!!! As always it is a beautiful restaurant to sit in and the staff are all friendly and provide excellent service!! We will definitely be coming back soon for more of that steak & ale pie / Vegetable pie you have!!!! Thanks again, L&L!

Lovely welcoming family friendly pub restaurant 🩷 sat us next to roaring fire just as the snow came on outside. Server Kerry was amazing. Miss her already! Made such a fuss over our boys even helped the wee one with his jacket as he was getting tangled 😂 Nashville burger for hubby which he said was perfect. Mine was my usual hunters chicken. It was quite dry and didn’t like flavour of fries. I get this dish every time I go out so maybe I am spoiled by our local where chicken cooked to perfection. Boys had medium rump steak which was perfect size for them and they devoured every bite! Halloumi fries fantastic and all served really quickly! Plenty parking. 🅿️ A lovely Saturday lunch and hopefully we will return soon.

Really lovely staff here, very friendly and welcoming. Was a really warm and cosy wee place. Sam was a great server! Our only thing was that we waited a wee bit long for food and it wasn’t the warmest when it arrived but not so bad we couldn’t eat it. All in all it was great and we’d come back.

We visited for breakfast with Santa, it was brilliant and we will definitely do it again next year. The food and service was excellent, thanks to Sam for looking after us!

Took my grandad here for lunch and we could not have been happier. The food was excellent and despite being very busy we received everything in good time and our waitress, Sam, was always attentive and friendly. Would highly recommend.

We went to have breakfast with Santa 1 of the best a have been to with the family the Santa was so excellent the breakfast excellent and was great value for money Sam the waitress was top class as well with the kids running ring about her and helping take photo and clear your mess we will defo be back next year and looking out for further event

Great food and experience, sitting by the fire on a cold December evening ;) Sean was our server and is a real credit to this place. He took care to seat us in a great part of the pub and nothing was too much trouble for him. Service was fast and attentive without being intrusive. All round great experience.

I've been visiting The White Cart since I moved to Scotland in 2014, I've moved away from Busby, but 4 or 5 times a year, I fetch back , and this is always on my itinerary. Love it.

Just back from one of the worst meals I've ever had. Arrived at 5 and while it was busy, it wasn't full, but still took 20 minutes to come take our order. Was told it could take a while for our food as it was busy, but that was fine, was happy to wait and have a couple drinks, then the server came back twice to tell us what we'd ordered wasn't available (haggis fritters starter and roast beef (X2) for the Sunday roast. So we ordered a couple of changes (turkey substitute) and sat waiting. Half an hour later our starters arrived, which were nice so we didn't mind the wait too much. We then waited another 40 minutes for our main meals - the 'roast' was anything but. Frozen food reheated, the buttered greens were merely boiled broccoli, the roast glazed carrots again boiled, rock hard and no sign of a glaze. Roast potatoes like the bottom of a bag of frozen ones, chewy and hard. Yorkshire pudding frozen and rubbery and no sign of any stuffing. About about 8 slices of turkey with gravy which was way too thick. Just a horrible plate of food and nobody even bothered to ask how it was, the servers clearly knew and were embarrassed. The women's toilet was out of order, signposted to go to the accessible toilet, which was also out of order so had to use the baby change - which was absolutely stinking of baby poo (expected) but not very nice in an eatery having to use that. All in all an absolutely awful time, so disappointed as we've been many times in the past and couldn't fault it. Avoid on Sundays at all costs, and certainly don't order the Sunday roast.

It's not great, but it's not awful. 3 nice meals, 1 over cooked but edible, and 1 burnt so bad you needed a jack hammer to cut it. Service was friendly but slow, maybe dictated by the pace of a kitchen with obvious problems on the night. We complained about the burnt meal and were offered a replacement. We were told the manager would come and have a word. The manager brought the replacement meal out, and the word they had was sorry about that, enjoy the fresh meal, and then walked off. Let's just say the bill was a disappointment as the poor food was not reflected in the bill.

Cosy furnishings, friendly staff, great food and a crisp pint, what more can you ask for. Will definitely come back.

Server, Victoria. The vary best. Ebullient personality, fabulous customer service, brilliant attitude and excellent attention to detail. One of the best wherever I've been. A real star.

Have been meeting my friends in here every few months for a catch up. We like to go on a Friday as it’s ’fizz Friday’ which is half price Prosecco. We also have food but I just feel the last twice we have been it is not value for money for the meal. I had salmon with king prawn new potatoes and veg which was over £17. The prawns were tiny and shrivelled up, and it was the same the last time and there was hardly any veg on the plate. Very disappointing for the price. Couldn’t be bothered complaining as I had the last time and obviously they have not taken onboard my complaint. If I go again I will definitely not be having the salmon.

Only reason I gave 2 stars were down to my fajitas as they were lovely! The staff were rude. Firstly sat at a table that was extremely wobbly, we were then moved to another table that wasn’t just as wobbly! This is when a napkin was placed under the table leg to prevent the wobble. With the prices that are charged in here, getting a couple of small new tables should be a priority. Our starter was fine, can’t complain, however our main meals were taken to the wrong table behind us. The lady there lifted the bin off the burger to look at it and then proceeded to advise the waitress it wasn’t the right order. The waitress then checked with another member of staff and was directed to our table. She expected my husband to eat the burger that a stranger had touched with her hands?! I requested a new burger, which miraculously came out the kitchen within around 2minutes! Not a chance they made a fresh burger. This out my husband right off eating it. I mentioned this to the waitress and said I would not be paying for the burger. The bill was brought with 20% taken off, I reiterated I was not willing to pay for the burger. The member of staff became abrupt and rude. We did get the bill back minus the burger. When leaving we still said thank you & bye as we passed as we have manners, the manager completely ignored us. Very unprofessional and rude. We will not return or recommend

Went for their special deal tonight. Gave it a generous 3* as the chips were very undercooked and fish tasteless. Doubt if we'll be back.

Service whilst friendly was slow long waits between courses, and to take desert order, payments etc, food really good except steak asked for medium rare and more well done and the burnt end topper was the most pathetic thing nearly £3 and half the size of a match box, but otherwise a really good meal

Just had a really good meal in the White Cart . We were weather beaten and hungry and we hadn't booked but they got us a cost table and we had a good meal . Great hot food nice glass of wine altogether a nice experience. Well done 👍😁

Had lunch at The White Cart today. Food was delicious and service was exceptional. Used 'Eating Out' gift cards without any issues (wasnt as easy elsewhere)!! Highly recommend.

Just back from our usual visit and have to say it was not a great experience. My Aunt spoke to the young server and asked if something could be done about the cold 🥶 she said she would sort it out. The place was extremely quiet but it took her ages to take the order. My Aunt ordered fish & chips from main menu and I had a chicken and bacon ciabatta. The chips were cold and fish not good at all I am still wondering where my chicken went----- one tiny bit of chicken and one tiny bit of bacon !! Plenty salad. Eventually decided to leave as we were very cold and very fed up waiting . Finally got the bill and when I said that bill had not been reduced staff member said we should have complained--- I said we did to the first girl--- she said sorry about that but she did"nt say. Put my card in machine and walked away ! By the way I did'nt mention that that the coffee was also tepid. All in all a disappointing afternoon. You need to pull your socks up heat the place and your customers will come back.

Nice to be back after a few weeks away - Dad is in a wheelchair so we’re always well looked after - Lindsay was there to welcome and guide us to our table by the door and Victoria was super quick with taking our food and drinks order - lovely evening and nice quick service and food was good too

I’m a long standing customer, so I should know better. Sunday lunch menu. Don’t bother. It will just ruin your day. Dried out fat and grizzle is the meat. The roast potatoes are a joke, the pig in blanket (note one sausage) is disgusting. And it’s an extra on the menu. It’s just a microwaved meal kit from a freezer at restaurant prices. Avoid

Friendly staff, scampi was great,partner is veg she had macaroni and said it was as good as she's tasted,clean and tidy toilets,beer garden,good parking,3oclock visit so quiet as far as atmosphere was concerned but staff were chatty and friendly to help it

Came here for my son's 18th birthday. A fun family dinner made all the better by our wonderful server, Victoria. A wonderful restaurant with professional staff.

It seems to be that every time I walk through the door, the price of a pint has gone up

As a regular here at least twice a month over several years, what was once an enjoyable experience has now gone wrong in our last two visits. The staff seem to have changed for younger ones who, like another poster commented on a review recently, have no initiative or customer service skills. Second last visit was OK other than the fact we were completely ignored once the mains were put in front of us. But the food wasn't up to normal standards, smaller portions and either substitutions or nothing in place of things which should have been included. We waited 45 minutes after finishing the mains to see if anyone would come near us to lift plates or ask us about dessert but in the end we gave up and left. Then Sunday lunch has a similar hands off experience only this time the food was very obviously heated in a microwave as my pie was stone cold in the middle. Again portions were smaller. As am example of variations from menu - no peas, no substitution in their place.. Slushy watery broccoli.. Barely warm from a time when it was over cooked the first time. Second visit in a row where no one came near us at the end to ask about dessert or even as we were eating the mains to ask if all OK... That may be the last visit from us sadly. We used to love it here. Not sure where Grant, Kerry, Terry or Ruth are these days. Service and food is 5 star when they're there.

Lovely welcoming staff on 21 July. HOWEVER Food a massive let down. Difficulty with vegan alternative to have with rainbow salad, added halloumi to everyone's and said it was vegan. The roast dinner was an absolute flop. Bang Bang Cauliflower burnt but soggy and over priced at £7 plus. Palest roast potatoes you ever saw with black eyes in them. Whole roast dinner covered in a horrible tepid gravy. Meat very thinly cut , bland, fatty strings.

Lovely place for lunch, good menu choices. Good access for those with mobility issues, no steps and entrance near parking area.

In with a friend who wanted to give it 4.1/2 stars but changed to 5 stars as he said the salmon was magnificent. I had the vegetable pie which was really good. Today was actually a reccy for friends for the future. Definitely pass marks. I will be recommending to my friends.

We've been going to The White Cart for years, but during our last two visits, there seems to have been a change of staff. In our recent visit, the service was very slow. We waited a long time for our main course. We asked for a dessert menu, but it took so long for it to come, that we decided not to have a dessert. We then waited ages for the bill.

Have visited the White Cart in its various guises for decades and it's always been a great place to eat and drink. Fancied an off the cuff visit today with my mother and it was absolutely fine. Looked forward to Haggis, Neeps and Tatties, but unfortunately the neeps were in short supply. Otherwise, the 3 tasty courses we each had were polished off and the polite and efficient service from Lynsey, William, Grant and Kenzi made it a thoroughly enjoyable experience - thanks. See you again soon.

Service non-existent when dining during a very quiet evening. After ordering 2 drinks at the bar, we then read the menu at our table before returning to the bar to order 2 main courses. After waiting about 15 minutes we had to ask when our 2 drinks were coming (which the waiter said he would chase up, with no apology or any sense of urgency or awareness of lack customer service or satisfaction) & we waited a further 5 minutes before they arrived, by which time our meals had been delivered. I was very disappointed at the portion size, especially the mashed potato, which was much smaller than a child’s portion. We had to ask for cutlery, salt & vinegar while our meal sat getting cold & no-one came back to ask how we were enjoying our meal, or take our empty plates away, or ask if we wanted a dessert, which resulted in us having to go back to the bar to ask for desserts, only to be told the kitchen closed 5 minutes ago, despite us finishing our main course at least 20 minutes earlier & being the only diners & no staff awareness or initiative to remind us or take our desserts order with plenty of time before the kitchen closed. All the waiter kept saying was “no worries” which is very infuriating ‘woke’ speak, nor did they say thanks or goodnight when we left. We’ve been dining at the White Cart for many years, but the new young staff don’t seem to have the customer service skills or even basic self-awareness of their total lack of customer service, especially considering it was very quiet. Maybe the manager (Grant?) was off for the evening, so the staff just thought they should have a quiet night too, at our expense! For ease of reference, we were at table 12 at approximately 8pm on Monday 24th June if you care to check your CCTV & our order on your system. So much for training staff to up-sell! They couldn’t have shown any less interest, or care, especially when it was so empty! We didn’t complain as it would’ve fallen on deaf ears! I’m sorry to leave this 2 star review, but we always loved the White Cart & it’s friendly, courteous staff, but now it’s a faceless, impersonal, corporate place of work for young Gen Z type new staff with no interest in paying customers. I hope Grant reads this review, responds, explains & speaks to the staff responsible for their slow & poor service & lack of basic courtesy & language skills. We ‘may’ return if the customer service & portion sizes significantly improve. No worries!

Not so good got taken here for fathers day, starter luke warm and measerly portion for a sharer .Main courses tiny mac and cheese,fish and chips half a fish,looked like a cougon, 8 luke warm chips thimble of mushy peas .my sons roast beef was like what you would put on a sandwich and cut with a razor blade,manager was called and to his credit gave 2 extra slices of roast beef and small portion of hot chips .Was so looking forward to going to this restaurant but wouldn't be in a hurry to go back not good value for money!!

Went for a quick drink this evening and needless to say we were in shock of how rude the two bartenders behind the bar were. Incredibly passive aggressive and not the first time I’ve witnessed this of how he has been with other customers prior! Shocking and made us feel very uncomfortable, it’s a shame as the rest of the staff and Managers are lovely however appeared the two young males behind the bar had no interest on ensuring good customer service at all. Would be mindful if you want to book here for a special occasion or have a nice drink as this might not be the place you’re after!

Ridiculous portion size for the macaroni. Limp salad. sent back to the kitchen. Manager apologised and agreed it was too small but as it is a chain that was the size. Won't be back.

The lady who served us was really nice and took time to interact with our grandson. It was really busy with customers both outside and in. The main meals were all fine but the apple pie and crumble was really poor, hard cubes of apple ( ? right out a tin) sparsley decorated with crumble, custard was okay. I know vegetables should be al dente but surely not apples in a sweet.

Absolutely 10/10. The food was delicious and exceptional service from Kerry. She was so courteous, seated us near the baby changing area and brought cutlery and a kids bowl for our toddler. We haven’t received service like this in a long time. Totally fantastic and made an evening out with a baby very relaxing. Would 100% return and Kerry is fantastic. Thank you for an excellent evening.
