Monteiths Bar & Bistro in East Renfrewshire

I've never experienced watered-down spirits before on such an epic scale Irrespective of what you order - Southern Comfort & Lemonade, Vodka & Coke, etc - they taste disgusting. The draught is horrible sickly and you just end up with a clear icy glass of syrupy muck. How can Southern Comfort ( yellow/ orange in colour end up clear? Or a pink gin& lemonade end up clear? I complained to the young barman who was clueless and it wasn't cheap. Ask him to take a drink to try and guess what it was - he refused so another girl had to redo it which was any better. We had three rounds all watered-down to sugar water then left. If yopu like expensive sugar water with ice then go nuts. Of you actually want a proper drink that you paid for, go across the road to a real pub.

First time eating here & probably picked the worst time to do so (just before Xmas) Absolutely blown away by quality of the food, staff & choice of drinks! I'm a fuss pot but truly can offer no criticism of my experience last night. My king prawn spaghetti was on a par with Ciao's (praise indeed from me) & I wolfed the remnants of my daughter in law's chicken & mac n cheese. Service was speedy & skilled. We'll be back soon & regularly.

The food was probably the best I have had in a long time. The portions were big and the half portions were like a main size. The atmosphere was good and the staff were very pleasant and helpful. I would certainly recommend and will be back. Thank you. Craig

If you like ambience and good food this is one to check out. Restaurant is upstairs and a separate bar downstairs so you can stay on for a drink after dinner. There is a fixed price menu and A La Carte. Both have good choices and are competitively priced. Corn dog starter was different and very tasty. Mini fish and chips was delicious. Service was efficient and friendly. Have used sister restaurant Loks many times and decided to check this out and was not disappointed.

Went there for a date night last night and the food, service and drinks were fantastic. We had tempura prawns and chicken tenders to start then chicken burger and macaroni for mains. The food was so delicious and so fresh. The cocktails were fab and the service fantastic. We will definitely be back there.

This was my second visit here and I had really enjoyed the food last time. I had read some recent reviews which were less than positive and I wondered if Monteiths had gone downhill. But it hasn’t. The food was very good, the service was prompt and efficient and the overall ambience was friendly. I had the hot smoked salmon starter - it was excellent - followed by a Cajun chicken burger which was very good.

Was expecting a lot but was very disappointed. After waiting 30 mins Steak and eggs- very well done steak of poor quality and eggs overdone. Toast and poached eggs - Eggs overdone, very small portion. Drinks overpriced. Sorry to say won't be back as 2nd time we've had a bad experience here.

Dogs - don’t mind that the bar is sometimes more of a kennel than a bar. What I do object to is the bar staff rubbing their hands all over the dogs (face/mouth/eyes) and then going straight back behind the bar to serve drinks/food. It’s absolutely disgusting. At least wash your hands instead of spreading disease to the rest of us.

We visited here recently on a 5pm brunch deal. The choice of food was excellent and the deal included two cocktails. We had the spicy beans with black pudding and two poached eggs and the French toast with crispy bacon. The food was made to order so was piping hot and tasted delicious. The plates were well presented. The other food being served also looked good. The choice of cocktails was good and we chose the mojito and the French martini both of which were well made. The service was excellent. Would certainly recommend a visit here and will definitely return.

Nice enough establishment - clean, tidy, good selection of drinks and friendly staff. Too many dogs wandering around the bar and in some cases sitting on the seats which I didn't like. I'm uncomfortable around dogs and there were two dogs sitting at opposite tables on the way to the toilets - there should be dedicated dog areas away from doors and access points. I can't imagine how it would be for someone with a dog allergy sitting on a chair without knowing a dog had been sitting there previously.

I live locally and have been to Montieth's on more than a few occasions for a drink or for something to eat. Every time I have visited here it has been brilliant and have had no issues. It is 10 times better than The Overlee over the road who seem to have completely lost the plot these days.

I have been to Monteiths several times over the last 3 yrs and always had extremely good service and great food. I do normally visit during the day with my elderly dad twice being on xmas eve but was unable to make during the day due to work commitments so booked 5pm for our meal weeks before xmas.We arrived and were seated at a table for 2 at bar area.Both my dad and myself were unable to hear each other due to noise and asked of any other table was available but none were.We could not wait to leave due to noise.If it had not been so close to xmas i would have left.I really dont think this table should be used as a eating table or at least be advised of this table will be allocated to you as you do not feel part of the restaurant due to all other tables being upstairs or at the back of ground floor.We have always been seated in both those areas which are fantastic. I had requested a booth if it was available when I booked.I was so looking forward to catching up with my dad before xmas but was left very disappointed this time.I do think you should be advised if going to be allocated to this table and only used before being seated prior to your meal.i will in future make sure when booking will not be given this table as have no other complaints at all.Love the atmosphere,food & staff.Thank you.
