We enjoyed a steak pie and 3 cheese macaroni & cheese along with a "For Peats Sake" whisky tasting that my husband really enjoyed!

Don't go in with high expectations. Food was edible but tasted like it was cooked from frozen and overpriced. A glorified pub. A pint is £7 before service charge.

Had a great lunch here! The whipped goat cheese starter and the sourdough with balsamic and olive oil were excellent. Fish and chips were very good as well. Would highly recommend for those looking for fresh, high quality food close to the touristy royal mile. Our server was friendly and provided great recommendations as well. Would return and recommend to others.

The spritz selection was fantastic. I had the Wee Berri Spritz. It was very tasty and refreshing. Our server knew the menu well and was attentive but also let us relax and enjoy the time. The only reason I gave a four star in food is because the chicken was a little heavy in sauce and had 1 mushroom slice in a dish advertised as roasted chicken with mushrooms. The salmon three ways was delicious and the dessert divine! Definitely get the whisky pairing with dessert. I would return for sure!

The food was tasty and there was a wide selection of drinks. However, both food and drinks were a bit overpriced. They asked for a 10% tip on the total bill, which we felt was quite a lot — and unfortunately, the friendliness disappeared after that

It was a nice place until the waiter brought us the bill before we even finished our drinks to make us understand that we weren't drinking enough.

The food is ok - regular. The bad thing is they are playing this funk music super loud all the time!! Kills completely the experience.

Their drinks menu has lots of choices, all of them superbly crafted. Second time we went in just for drinks while we waited for the Makars mash bar reservation. It was great too!

Fabulous food and great service! Superb Scottish cuisine in a fabulous atmosphere. Great location for both the castle and Princes Street.

4.5 is not justified….for us it is one of the number 1 in Edinburgh….a real treat…everything was perfect…mention +++ for the Scotch eggs…the Heggis and the beef casserole… The dessert is very good, a little bit sweet for us… The waitresses were very pleasant…don’t miss this address

We arrived early for our reservation and the restaurant was busy, which I appreciate is a pain for staff. However, the service was very poor indeed - rude and borderline aggressive. Having asked to order drinks and waited for some time, two of our party went and stood at the bar to order drinks. We were essentially told off for doing so (table service only), so we apologised and went back to the table we'd been given while our actual table was being prepared. We asked again to order drinks and were aggressively told that our table would be ready soon (not sure why that prevented us ordering some drinks in the meantime). After we were shown to our table, we then waited again for some time and when I caught a member of staff's eye and asked if we could order drinks, she made it very clear that I'd interrupted what she was doing. All a bit more stressful than either desired or required. The drinks then took a very long time to arrive. Some of our party were quite pleased with their food. I had the "lobster" mac and cheese. The inverted commas are appropriate here because there was very little evidence of any lobster. What was essentially ordinary mac and cheese for nearly thirty quid is a nonsense - not a single piece of garnish, no bread. Nothing but dry pasta under a cheese crust. Chips on the dishes near me were cold and undercooked (one of our starters was cold - Cullen Skink. Not ideal). Overall, it was just under £800 for eight people. We didn't all have starters and only a couple had puddings. Poor service, mediocre (at best) food and a large bill wasn't the side of Edinburgh that I had hoped to show our guests. Very disappointed.

This restaurant was brilliant - just off the royal mile with a lovely view from where we sat of princes street and the Scott Monument. The service was possibly the best I've experienced, very prompt and polite. The salmon dish was gorgeous and very much worth the money, as were the drinks. All round a really positive experience at a lovely restaurant!

Came in for some scottish classic dishes then returned for dessert. It was all amazing, as was the service. No waiting for lunch on a Saturday! Highly recommended!!

Magnificent restaurant in the central area of ​​Edinburgh. We went there based on recommendations on websites and it did not disappoint. We were 6 people and we were in an area as reserved, although we had not previously reserved a table. We had a wonderful meal, and the service was excellent. I would definitely recommend it for lunch or dinner.

We don't mind tipping for good service. However, just to add 12.5% to the bill and put the word discretionary against is... it puts people into an awakward position.. On this occasion, the staff actually did themselves out of a better tip...

Excellent. Table was ready when we arrived. Food was great. We had haggis spring roll to start. Then a dry-aged steak, steak pie, and whiski burger. Everything good and great service.

My wife and I really enjoyed our time in the restaurant. The waiter was very helpful and gave great advice and helped with choices of whiskey. The food was delicious, and we weren’t rushed at all. A great experience and would definitely recommend and return ourselves.

First time visiting the Whiski Rooms, but certainly won’t be the last. Great service, extensive Whisky menu and although not an extensive wine selection, the Primitivo we chose was excellent and complemented our dinner choices of Haggis Spring Rolls (incredible) Lamb Shoulder and Venison Loin (also amazing!). Great service, great ambience and the quality of the food speaks for itself as well as the portions being generous. We had a lovely and romantic evening at Whiski Rooms and look forward to visiting again in the future.

I had haggis, chips, and a whiskey cocktail. Everything was really good, and oh my, it was my first time having such a whiskey cocktail. The taste of the whiskey was amazing!

The food was good staff were friendly. I was in this restaurant on Friday with a group of friends for lunch. The haggis was delicious 😋. I paid for my food the guy behind the bar said to me there's 40 pounds still owed. So I called my friends back and the guy behind the bar said there's a voluntarily cover charge on the bill that we were told all the waiter's put them on the bill that is outrageous and shocking.

Very nice place, it was our first dinner in Edinburgh. A little bit pricey but the atmosphere is warm and the food is good.

Called in for lunch and we weren’t disappointed. Lovely pint of IPA and a glass of Sauvignon blanc. We ate the Cullen Skink and BLT which were delicious. Staff were friendly and attentive without hovering over us. We’ll definitely be back.

I booked at this establishment following a good review on the internet regarding the Haggis. The setting is very well designed and my wife and I were seated at a table with a view of Edinburgh, great! The decoration is very well chosen, very cozy. The staff are charming. Except the waitress we had. Unfriendly, bad advice, asks if the Haggis is well cooked, answer, it's a Scottish dish so cook the same thing everywhere and so on. Expensive prices for the quality on the plate.

Had a lovely meal here, a great place for an introduction to traditional Scottish food and whiskeys. Our waitress was great and was a lovely setting. We had Cullen Skink & tiger prawns to start. Haggis and Scottish Salmon as mains. All were tasty. Followed by the introduction whiskey flight. It was on the more expensive side, but as a new year's day treat we enjoyed ourselves! Would recommend.

Had booked for hogmany celebrations as I have been in for dinner a few times and have never had a bad experience. I paid my table for 4 in November in person, however received 3 emails stating that they were still looking for payment. Two of the three emails did state to ignore if already paid, however one didn't which I was concerned about and had to contact the Whiski rooms to advise them. The night in question!!! Food was ok??? Couldn't rave about it. I had the seabass and didn't enjoy it at all. Was very salty, fish overcooked, vegetables raw. Wasn't overly impressed by the cheese and biscuits either..Cheese was rubbery and crackers were disgusting however the chutney was nice. The atmosphere!!! There was none. For a New Year celebration the atmosphere was very flat. I believe the owners like Jazz music however the choice of music for a New Year celebration added to the flat atmosphere. The restaurant emptied before the bells and we were one of these tables who chose to go back to the hotel and toast the new year in our room. As a place that I would frequent when in Edinburgh which is approximately 4/5 times a year I'm afraid I won't be back. I had high hopes on doing something different on hogmany and saved to be able to enjoy my New Year. Money wasted.

Whisky and chocolate tasting this afternoon with Stephen as our host. It was brilliant. Stephen is extremely knowledgeable and takes you on an excellent adventure of tasting great regional whisky s, paired with chocolates. Highly recommend this experience to others

An excellent meal with a knowledgeable and helpful team of staff. The food was impeccable, delicious and beautifully presented, and the alcove where were seated was pleasantly quiet which made the entire meal a lovely experience.

Lots of choice for whiskey, excellent service. We had a cheese board, which was not very special.

What a knowledgeable and very helpful gentleman was Mick and all the staff in general! Popped in for a wee nightcap and was pleasantly surprised by the distinct knowledge and overall warm feeling being in such a quality establishment. Highly recommended for anyone looking for knowledgable people who know whisky and not at a crazy price, in fact very reasonable considering the proximity to central Edinburgh. If you’re looking for a dram, this is the spot.

Great whisky tasting and occasion Would definitely revisit

We had an amazing time - have been more than once and the service and quality of food (steak!) was excellent and value for money. Our waiter Luca was fantastic, he really looked after us and made a fuss of my other half whose birthday it was. Thankyou so much Luca! We look forward to coming again.

Friendly staff, good food and a nice atmosphere. Location is very good too with a nice view over Princess Street gardens.

Amazing selection of whiskies and a few draught beers

We had a lovely dinner . We had a front table and had a great conversation, dinner and laughs. Old fashions was excellent. Whisky flight was great.

Unfortunately, we didn’t get a chance to try their food. The owner or manager—I'm not sure who—was quite rude and told us that they were full in an unpleasant manner (and I'm not easily offended, but I could sense a hostile attitude). There were actually three empty tables. In the end, we waited for 30 minutes at a restaurant nearby. We would have been willing to wait if they had offered us to do so. Anyways good luck with such an attitude.

We come here regularly and the food, service, atmosphere (and drams!) are always spectacular. Sage regularly serves us and she is always super friendly and knowledgeable. All staff are wonderful and a true asset. We will be back again very soon!

We visit Edinburgh for a couple of days to experience the Christmas atmosphere. Part of this experience has to be the Whiski Rooms. Set just down from the Royal Mile, it is a fantastic dining experience. We selected the festive menu, both selected the pate, which was delicious, and then we had the Ox Cheek and the Turkey dinner, with Crumble and Panacotta to finish. All complimented by an excellent bottle of Malbec. I usually finish with a whisky from their excellent selection, but I had no more room to fit this in. Everything about the evening was superb, and the staff contributed to the experience. Thanks to all at the Whiski Rooms, particularly the chef who excelled himself. See you all next year.

we were two couples meeting in Edinburgh and we ate in this wonderful establishment, the food was quite magnificent, I could recommend the Venison loin, the also have a good selection of wines. The atmosphere was great and the views across Edinburgh from its elevated position stunning - I will be back - our hosts were Ugnius and Amanda and they looked after us well

Stopped here for lunch on a cold, wet day in Edinburgh, so was very glad of this cosy restaurant. The food was delicious, and the service by Lucas was excellent. Will definitely be back.

Great place to pit stop for a drink to warm your cockles with a fine whiskey didnt try the food but the guy on the next table had a burger and it looked the dogs bollocks great atmosphere, friendly staff and they’ve got a shop so if theres a bottle of whisky you fancy you'll find it there highly recommend..👍

This was a great introduction into Scottish cuisine. Started off with the Cullen Skink, a hearty portion of smoked haddock and leek chowder. This was followed by Haggis, Neeps and Tatties in a whiskey sauce, which I’d highly recommend - the haggis had a crumbly texture to it, and was a little salty but that balanced off well against the neeps and tatties mash and boozy whiskey sauce. Service from Margi and Lukasz was spot on - they gave good recommendations regarding whiskey tasting and were very attentive and welcoming.

Hadnt realised it was card payment only which didnt suit us as we had saved and brought cash ...we like the choice!.....food fabulous

My wife an I are on our honeymoon, exploring Edinburgh and were looking for a place with steak and whiskey. They have that and then some. In addition, our server Lucas was absolutely amazing. He took immaculate care of us and was magnificent. Great banter. Great suggestions for our travels. Very good food. And an enormous selection of whiskey, as well as flights. Cannot reccomend this place enough, especially if you're lucky to have Lucas as your server. Sláinte.

Very nice restaurant with kind staff. Salmon starter was delicious! Fish and chips was just okay, peas didn’t have any seasoning and were just plain peas. Whiski old fashioned was nice. Noted there was a birthday on our reservation but none of the staff mentioned it. Probably wouldn’t go again for food but maybe for a cocktail.
