Whiski Rooms in Edinburgh, City of

There are two separate rooms: one for drinks, and another for food and drinks, plus a dedicated area with souvenirs and liquors. I was there to eat, and I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The service was good and fast. If you want to try local food, the haggis spring rolls are a must! They were delicious, flavorful, and fresh. For the main course, I ordered the Beef Scottish Pie, which was an excellent choice. The meat was tender, juicy, and served in the perfect portion. You can choose your side; I went with the mashed potatoes—not the best, but still good. I’ll definitely come back for some drinks next time!"

Oct 28th walk in - Food was top notch. Lamb shoulder was one of the best meals I've ever had. Excellent selection of Whisky as you'd expect. Friendly and polite service - staff worked really hard. Very much welcomed the disclosure of the discretionary service charge by our host, unlike most other venues who slap it on and hope you don't notice! Therefore I had no issue in paying. Highly recommended!

Although Haggis is made from haggis, it doesn’t have any mutton smell at all, so don’t worry if you want to try it. The lamb chops were braised and delicious. The whiskey cocktail starts at 40 degrees, which I personally think is delicious. The service was really good. The waiter chatted with us for a long time and even gave us desserts. The price is 40 pounds per person for two people. The price is not cheap, but the service is really good. We are really happy. The service was really nice and the meal was delicious, honestly far exceeded my expectations and really surprised me!

My first experience eating Scottish food, delicious. I ordered the cullen skink, delicious, a hot whiskey cocktail to soften the cold. And the famous sticky toffee pudding dessert. Attentive and fast service.

The drinks were great and the food was almost as good as the service. A great respite in a very touristy area.

Clean, calm place, where you can eat tasty vegan haggis. I recomend to take some ciders, there are really good. Gentle and kind service. I've enjoyed time here

Very friendly service and really delicious food. Everything here is prepared with different whiskeys in the sauce and this is also mentioned on the menu. The lamb shoulder was really tender and delicious!! We went there twice during our trip and would come back any time!!!

Amazing place with the most excellent food.

Although the food was okay (not anything special but at least hot), we were charged a £10 tip without even asking. We felt like we were robbed, we won’t eat there again.

My husband salmon was some of our best after 5 nights in Edinburgh… my lamb was outstanding!! I went to cut it with a knife and did not need a knife because it broke apart with moisture the whole way through. Not a bit of excess fat or gristle to be found! We imbibed on the Island Flight of Whiskey as our finish. Easy to get in. Absolutely fabulous music mix and comfy seating. The food could not be beat! Clara was our server. Person that made the 🎶 mix seemed to be a mgr but was out helping tables

Stopped by here for lunch after exploring the Castle. Friendly staff and the food was very filling and tasty :) also seemed to be more reasonably priced than the other places around the Castle.

I really enjoyed my dinner here. I had an Old Fashioned which was perfectly made and a scotch steak pie which was equally delicious. The staff was nice and the atmosphere of the restaurant was great too. They also have wonderful vegetarian options.

A fantastic spot to stop for a drink to get out of the rain. Ecclectic decor, homey coziness and friendly staff. Also, great to try a variety of whiskys!

It was our first time here, food and drinks were good overall. However, since everything on the menu sounds so exciting, we will appreciate more if we were given more time to look through the menu instead of being rushed to order. It felt like the staff who served us was rather pushy and impatient -- she came and asked twice if we were ready to order, we said we needed more time to think, so we suggested if we can order the starter first while we decide on the main, she said nope and just left abruptly. Understood that the restaurant was busy on a Saturday night, I guess if the staff wants to make sure we order as quickly as possible, she could also help by giving a bit more information about certain dishes instead of just saying "there are two different dishes".

The food was very tasty, the service was very good and the ambience was great. An all round successful visit!!!!

Went for dinner with my wife and daughter had salmon for starter a bit over priced for what it was my wife had the same it was ok but nothing special Main course I had the fish and chips or whisky fish and chias it said on the menus (not been near a whisky) the fish was good but I counted 13 chips to accompany the fish My wife had the chicken burger and chips again sparse on the chips and my daughter had the Mac and cheese ( not much you can say about that ) during the meal my daughter wanted some water and as no one wanted to serve us we went up to the bar and asked At the end of the meal my daughter went to the loo and while she was there we were harassed as the wanted the table ( we weren’t even in the place a hour) Overall over priced it would have been cheeped to go to the five star restaurant in St Andrew square or the hotel at the east end of princess street whisky bar I guess its aimed at the one shot tourist that won’t be back My advice go somewhere else

Nice place, perfect atmosphere and very good service.

Went with my mum and aunt, mum is coeliac. Both rated their food 10/10 (and are usually a little fussy). My burger was great, chips fluffy and generous portions. Beef burger slightly pink and tender, gluten free fish and chips crumbed batter lovely and crisp. Service very friendly and warm.

Great meal as always at the Whiski Rooms. And great service too, also as usual. My wife and I had lunch today to celebrate a recent birthday, and both enjoyed our fish and chips and tasty desserts. The wee dram to wash it down was also excellent. Our waiter was attentive, funny and informative.

Amazing find. Serving late, after 8 when other restaurants had stopped serving. Quality and experience was excellent. Go here with confidence. We came for lunch the next day. Fantastic burgers!

This became our home-away-from-home restaurant and we loved it each time! Atmosphere and food were great. We lived the Auld Fashioned drink. And Sage took phenomenal care of us and was a highlight for us!

Beautiful meal here last night, we hadn’t booked and they were busy but still accommodated us, we were prepared for the 30 min wait on food, but they were so efficient we definitely didn’t have to wait this long. Food & drinks lovely and great staff. Highly recommend!

We choose to dine here for our 51st Anniversary . It was a great choice. Outstanding service and ambience .

Recommended for people who want to compare Scotch whiskies. I thought it would be a bit strange to bring children, but surprisingly there was a kids menu so there was no problem. The location is just up the hill from the National Gallery of Scotland towards the Royal Mile. Advance reservations are required. The food is delicious, but the prices are a little high. We ordered haggis, spring rolls, fish and chips, and Caesar salad. From the kids menu, we ordered something like chicken nuggets and a set of chips.

Great spot for eating classic Scottish food. Fantastic gluten free options, very accommodating and tasty. Please be aware- this place was packed and definitely runs on the classic European timeframe for eating. Americans need to settle in and be prepared. The vibes were great, good music playing through the restaurant. All-in-all, definitely reccommend.

Great Edinburgh restaurant with a more traditional decor. Upon arrival the staff did their utmost to make us feel comfortable and welcome. We therefore enjoyed the experience all the more....and considering we were celebrating two birthdays (waiters had no clue except two small badges worn) we were given two whiskies on the house which made it all the more special. If we are ever in Edinburgh again this will be the first port of call. Exemplary.

This is a place where you can enjoy sincere explanations from the staff and a delicious whiskey sampler at a reasonable price.

My best friend and I celebrated our 40th at Whiski Rooms and we were both very pleased with our meal, the service, and the overall ambiance. This was one of our favourite meals during our stay in Edinburgh.

Excellent menu near Royal Mile with more authentic Scottish experience and food options. Very satisfied with wine list and overall service. Chicken entree was incredibly tasty. Would go again.

Amazing amazing amazing food! One of the best meal we had!

Overall very mid. Not great, not horrible. Restaurant was pretty and had good atmosphere. Great cocktails. Food was exceedingly average. Ribeye was cooked ok but had no real flavor. Steak pie was a puff pastry on top of stew meat. There are definitely better options in Edinburgh, but this was ok as a last-minute choice on a night where we didn't have reservations and were able to get a table for early dinner.

We went to this restaurant with high expectations, however the whole experience was rushed . The starters of onion rings and haggis spring roles where passable but they came out after just placing out order which seemed that they were pre-prepared ? Then I had shoulder blade (which was very tasty,) My partner had roasted chicken with mash - this was passable - the mash potatoes was very dry and horrible it came with a mushroom sauce which he didn’t like. Then we were asked to move as our table was booked (we were there for a hour and 10 mins!) do we decided to have the bill and go - at the bottom of the bill was a discretionary 10% surcharge… which I refused to pay - so check your bill and if happy then pay the 10% otherwise refuse .

I tried Wiskey Jack which was a Perfect balanced of flavors. We ordered Haggis,Cullen Skink and a Tomato soup wirh Scotch Pie to enjoy local dishes. Highly recommend that. Unfortunately I don't have any photos of soups.

My family of four had dinner with whiskey pairing. Great restaurant setting & the food is fine but the service is poor & unprofessional. I wanted to taste more variety of whiskey, the 2 heads of service didn't care much, Amazed by their attitude, lost count of what kind business they are in...?

We really enjoyed our dinner at Whiski Rooms. The food was delicious and reasonably priced. The space was nicely decorated with nice music (not techno beat like we heard in other places!) and the service was friendly and attentive. Get the sticky toffee pudding!

We happened upon this restaurant by accident and decided to stop in since it was raining. I'm so glad we did as it turned out to be the best meal we had during our UK trip! My husband did the whiskey flight and loved it along with his steak and ale pie. I had the house salad and I highly recommend adding the Scottish salmon to it. It was to die for! I will dream about how good the sticky toffee pudding was for a long time!

We were looking forward to trying this restaurant based on a local recommendation. I ordered the fish and chips, my husband got the hamburger. Unfortunately, this was our least favorite fish and chips of our entire trip. Definitely a disappointment given that this was our last night in Scotland. 

A very atmospheric place, I recommend it, I tested Whysky there

I had made a 'special occasion' booking, but there was no mention of that. We were assigned a table close to the noisy coffee machine, when there was a lovely table at the window which was then assigned to a young family who arrived a few minutes after us. Our pre-dinner drinks were slow to arrive, but service after that was good. My fish and chips main course was disappointing as the fish was dry. The others in the group enjoyed what they had - haggis, steak pie and lamb.

Our first bite of food in Scotland after landing from the airport! Food was decent, salmon was fresh but vegetables are just boiled? whiskey flight was great, pimms cup was fantastic. Service was kind. The dessert was a little too sweet for my tastes, both the sticky toffee pudding as well as the cranachan. However to each their own! Drinks menu is huge, pictures below.

We couldn't eat there because they treated us like plague victims, nothing but Scottish hospitality!!! When asked for a table, we were told to leave the Royal Mile because we wouldn't have found a single free table! Terrible experience!

Very nice location. Friendly, alert staff! Not to mention I didn't even have whisky, but I regret it. They also have good beers.

The Whiski Room is a true gem. The staff goes out of their way to provide an experience and the best of their menu offerings. In addition, our whiski tasting experience is beyond descriptions. Stephen provided history and five drams which gave the us the ability to learn how to enjoy scotch/whiski in a manner that is most satisfying. We highly recommend the food and the additional fee for the formal tasting. You will not regret the experience.

Good menu, not cheap in my opinion (I expect a lot will find it reasonable), food was good but chips were served lukewarm. Despite this I would go again and I would recommend it to others.

Couldn’t finish either starter or main course due to not enjoying the food at all. Cullen Skink was ok at best whilst the macaroni cheese was greasy, tasteless and no real cheese sauce left (dried up) due to reheating. Chicken ceasar salad ( partners dish) was drowned in dressing that tasted to vinegary and very strong garlic flavour. Won’t be back.

Went in yesterday during the Fringe festival. Absolutely rammed as expected but they accommodated us pretty quick. I ordered the tiger prawns which were outstanding followed by fish and chips which was decent. Wife had Scotch pie and after tasting it wished I'd ordered that as it was one of the nicest things I've ever tasted. Great place.

If you prefer to stick to the typical food, I can also recommend the Pub Whiski, situated at the Royal Mile. The food is delicious and I really liked the location.

what can i say the service was good even though we were an hour early they done there best to get us a table even though they were busy but they did especially mick who was brill the food was excellent recommend the neaps ,haggis and tatties overall experience was good would go again if in Edenborough

We have visited many times before. It’s always a highlight when we visit Edinburgh. Our last visit was really disappointing. Very saddened to leave there feeling deflated by the situation. The food wasn’t as it usually was. Even after bringing this to the attention of a couple of different waiting staff we were just told that’s how it is. Service was quite rushed. The description of the food on the menu and what we were served just didn’t match. For the price you pay it was a let down.

Whiski Rooms is a must visit for us when we go to Edinburgh. We have been there several times now and it’s has always been a highlight. I don’t know if anything has changed since our last visit in 2022 but we just left having visited there this year deflated. Food not as it usually is. Service not as it usually is either. My partner ordered a dish which was £29, one of the items being sautéed potatoes. She was presented with new potatoes which certainly weren’t sautéed. You couldn’t tell they had been near a pan. When we brought this to the attention of the waiting staff they explained this was how they were meant to be. I’m not a chef but I am no way being led to believe they had been sautéed (“fry quickly in hot fat”) it’s such a shame that we left deflated and so dissatisfied. I wanted to leave a review just in case other people like us visit there frequently and are disappointed like we were with the food and service.

This is a fun casual place to have a whisky flight and some very good food. We were lucky to get a table by the window which was a bit quieter and entertaining to watch the passersby. We were there during the Fringe so you can imagine the fun going on around us. The braised Perthshire lamb shoulder and steak pie were delicious. And we tried Whiski Cranachan for the first time. Yum! Don't miss this when you are in Edinburgh!

Best meal here so far and great service ! We ate with another family here and everything we ordered was great - lovely cocktails and drinks and the haggis burger was my best meal yet in Edinburgh this trip Amazing all round go here Rob

We had an amazing evening and would definitely recommend The Whiski Rooms. The service was outstanding and the food & cocktails were perfect. Quite noisy but that was due to an extremely loud group so ordinarily I expect it would be fine for noise levels. We pushed back our reservation and it wasn't any bother which we were so grateful for. If you are in Edinburgh visit these guys, you won't be disappointed.

Excellent food - good range of gluten free options too. Much of the menu was noted as being locally sourced. Service was prompt. Helpful food and whisky pairing notes.

Great pop in location away from the centre. Didn't eat so can't rate the food, but looking at people who were, looks good. Helpful in providing information to an Edinburgh newcomer!

Excellent service. Food was good though maybe a bit over priced but this is Edinburgh during the Festival. Great location and ambience.

Good food but for the price not sure it was a worthy expense. Staff seemed very hurried and forgot our water for the entire meal. Tried to flag them down but they looked every where but our way. This is a busy place so you’d think they would be used to the hustle. The whiskey sour was bland and not sour couldn’t taste the whiskey. The old fashioned as much better. Pork should nice and burgers good. Would recommend on the less busy times and if you don’t mind spending lots of £.

Nice restaurant excellent food and excellent service

This is a comfortable spot really close to the Royal Mile. We had reservations during the Fringe Festival - not sure how busy it is at other times. The service was friendly and fast. We started with a Speyside Whisky Flight paired with a Scottish Cheese Board which is a great way to kick off any meal. The Haggis Spring Rolls were hot and had a great dipping sauce. The Scottish Salmon and Fish & Chips were excellent main courses cooked to perfection. Lastly, the warm sticky toffee pudding was mouth watering! Definitely a great place to relax, chat, and eat some wonderful chow.

Food was a bit too expensive for what you get. We had the haggis and fish n’ chips, haggis was just that and the fish was lightly fried.

It was a lot of fun tasting four glasses of whiskey. The food didn't taste great, but there was nothing to complain about. Safe taste. Overall, the price is a bit high, but considering the prices of other whiskey bars and tourist attractions, it is acceptable. If you drink whiskey together with several people, you can have more fun while reducing the cost.

Good food and great whiskey selection. The tasting instructions and water dropper were really helpful for getting the most out of the whiskey. The steak pie was good, and the salmon was fantastic. We got reservations on Open Table and asked for a high chair and the table was set up and ready when we walked in the door. Overall great experience and would definitely go back.
