Whiski Rooms in Edinburgh, City of

A lovely spot for a casual-ish dinner. There is a big selection of main courses on the menu but not many starters. Staff are really nice and there was a good atmosphere in the venue. Was busy on a Monday night so a popular spot in town! Portions are very big are on the higher-price side!

Popped in without a reservation for dinner after a 12-hour bus tour to the Highlands. This restaurant has a sophisticated old school bar vibe. The food is not fancy, more comfort in nature, and excellent. Of course, they have an enormous selection of whiskeys which will not disappoint. And a complete bar for non-whiskey drinkers. A cool place to drink and enjoy a meal.

On their website it says its open until midnight. Sadly not the case on a Thursday! Had a mammoth 5 hour journey from London to do a day's work and was recommended, so when I walked in at 21:30 was told by the owner it was closed, and as much as I understand the need to close earlier when it's not busy, there were still a few groups of people in there so he could have easily fitted me in for a quick meal. I was looking forward to their steak and a big glass of something red , and maybe a wee dram to finish...sadly not the case as was told by the owner the kitchen was closed as " everywhere in Edinburgh closes at 9.30"....hmm.. not impressed.. My advice to the man standing at the door would be to change your advertised opening hours so that a weary solo traveller, or other people are not misguided in the future to make the effort to walk up a very big hill only to be told your closing times are incorrect; you didn't fly the flag for that famous Scottish hospitality!!

Needed a place with Scottish food in the Old Town to take visitors. Aware that prices have shot up in many places, chose this one on the basis of OT’s information that cost of a meal here is ‘£25 or under’. Unlikely: main courses in themselves range from £27 to £36. Food was not bad, but for these prices you could go somewhere genuinely good (La Garrigue, Cafe St Honoré, Escargot bleu, etc.). We paid £150 for three, two courses and one glass of wine each. Expensive tourist trap.

As a person that doesn't know anything about whisky, this was a great place to start as the staff helped us sort through the vast selection and made recommandations based on our taste. The place is cozy and the food was good so it's the perfect place to start in order to discover Edinburgh.

Food and drinks were very nice and reasonably priced. Staff were helpful and friendly and were very knowledgeable about the menu and drinks. Restaurant was cosy and had a good atmosphere.

Truly special experience in Edinburgh. Great for talking with an old friend over a nice dinner, sipping on expensive whiskies. The venison was amazing. And highly recommend the premium whiskey flight (5).

We arrived early by about 15 mins but were seated straight away. We didn't have to wait long before the waiter took our drinks order and then our choice of food. Food was really amazing. Piping hot and so tasty. Nice portions too. Thoroughly recommend Whiski Rooms to anyone who has not visited before.

Only thing would have changed was the apple crumble - was delicious but it would more accurately be called stewed apples with a sprinkle of crumble on top. Needs a layer of crumble on top to be considered an apple crumble. Will definitely be going back!

Food was lovely piping hot just the way we like it. Service was excellent, staff very friendly nothing to much trouble. We always visit the Whiski Rooms every time we come to Edinburgh. It's a great place to dine. Thanks again.

Within 20 minutes of our train arriving, was sat down with a beer & dram & had ordered haggis lunch. Great service. Have visited before and would come again

Great food - super ingredients, classic dishes, very well put together. This is a good restaurant! If you like Whiskey, they really know their whisky.

We had a very pleasant meal, very well served and presented. One star lost for chips not being very crispy and could have been hotter. Not enough to spoil the meal at all but just not quite the best. Also Cranachan didn't seem to have much if any oatmeal - again very nice flavour but missing that little crunch expected from that dish. Would still recommend overall.

Helpful welcoming flexible - surprise birthday party

Absolutely outstanding, from the minute we walked through the door. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable of whisky and very attentive to our dinner date meal. Of course I had to try a whisky to go with my cheese & biscuits and was advised which would suit and how to add drops of water if needed. It was again an amazing experience one we always cherish when ever in Edinburgh. See you again soon.

As always memorable and truly amazing food and ambience. We will always be back to our favourite place one day again soon.

Staff Sage gave us a amazing service and well known of whisky as well . Food were amazing especially the Cullen skink . Definitely recommend it for scotch lover . Big variety of scotch and different tasting options. Thumbs up 👍🏻

De plus, la dégustation de whisky se fait dans de très bonne conditiopn avec de très bons conseils. Ce restaurant merite vraiment sa note.

Unimaginative, basic menu which was badly executed (bland, under seasoned and small portions). Basic wine list. Average service. Not bad for a tourist trap, poor for anything else.

I loved having dinner at Whiski Rooms in Edinburgh! The lamb was incredibly tender, my partner had haggis which was full of flavor, and the creme brûlée was delicious. The service was top-notch; our server was polite, attentive, and friendly. It was pouring with rain when we went, so the cosy atmosphere made it a memorable dining experience. We actually left smiling because it was such a pleasant experience. I highly recommend Whiski Rooms to anyone looking for great food and a warm ambiance in Edinburgh!

Attended the Whisky & Cheese tasting hosted by Shaun. We got a lot more than we expected and wouldn't hesitate to book again. Shaun was very knowledgeable and expertly paired a varied selection of whiskies with cheeses. Even managing to make blue cheese palatable to me. Highly recommend this place to any true whisky lover.

We were both a bit deflated after visiting this restaurant after reading so many good reviews. My husband opted for Cullen Skink as a starter and although it was tasty it was very tepid. He had fish and chips for main. It wasn’t a portion of fresh fish. It was like a frozen fillet cut in half and he mentioned whilst eating it was very dry. I had the venison and at a 36 quid price tag I thought it would be good. It wasn’t. It lacked seasoning, the jus was just brown sweet water with no taste of tarragon whatsoever. On a positive note, the service was good. It’s in a nice location with lovely views but if you’re going to charge prices like that it has to be worth the price tag. It seemed to be busy enough but sadly we didn’t enjoy it enough to return.

Group booking of 4 people, nice table and atmosphere in the restaurant. Waiter and waitress warmed up to the group at the end of our meal. Sadly 2 out of 4 of us did not enjoy the chef special of Lamb, which was disappointing . We also felt the service was rushed, after completing our starter and main course within 1 hour of arriving at our table.

Just had a fabulous meal on new years day . The fish and chips were excellent and my husband enjoyed the haggis . All beautifully presented . We felt the cheeseboard was a little overpriced for what you got . Would happily return there and recommend it

Overall we enjoyed our News Year's Eve dinner/celebration at Whiski Rooms. Service was outstanding. The food was just OK for the price we paid - we were very disappointed in the lamb entree as we expected an actual lamb shank, not chopped up meat formed into a mound. Rooms/seating/atmosphere was nice, although there was a very bright light setup outside for the street party that was shining through the window directly into our faces which was quite annoying & they couldn't do anything to block it.

Piatti tipici scozzesi davvero ottimi, da provare assolutamente haggis e scotch steak pie. Anche i dolci sono spettacolari! Servizio attento, gentile e ambiente accogliente. Good day out for lunch, I chose here as I've been before with work for our Christmas meal, and the menu suited our group of 7 with plenty choice. Nice relaxed atmosphere and everyone enjoyed it. Edit, Another visit to our favourite place in Edinburgh for lunch (29/12/23) and steak pie was my choice, very nice as always. Treated my mother in law and sister in law for lunch as a Christmas present and we all enjoyed our meal and drinks in the usual relaxed atmosphere. Being regular visitors the food was slightly less quality than previous visits, however doesn't put us off and hopefully back to normal next time.

We've visited several times as its one of our favourite places to come for a nice meal, however found on this occasion it was still nice, but not as good as it normally is. We felt that the portion sizes had been reduced and the sticky toffee pudding was hard on the bottom. Still a very nice meal and well presented, but not as good as previous visits.

Nice ambient restaurant although food average and overpriced. Fish and chips were basically two small fish goujons. Wife was also disappointed with the chicken, lacked flavour and taste. Service not particularly attentive. Sharing bread to start and deserts were good.

Fantastic spot for a late lunch with great views of the Christmas market. Plenty of whisky to try and delicious food. My partner loved the haggis and neeps. It was his birthday and they did a message on his dessert - a nice little touch - Thank you

The steak pie was very rich and after a few bites I felt sick. The pastry was freezing cold and the chunky chips has big lumps through them. They also went really cold quickly. When the waitress came and could see we had both eaten less than half our food she just ignored us, picked up our plates and walked away. She then came back sat down the bill and didn't speak. When my husband told her about the poor food she was snappy and claimed no other customer had a problem woth the food. Will never be back. The whole place also stinks of fish.

We came for dinner to celebrate the reunion with our beloved friends. Luckily we got a window table. Our order was taken by a very friendly staff member. The food was excellent and the Cranachan was to die for...really it was heaven in a glass. 😋 Thank you very much for a long to remember evening. Xx

Wow, what a find, really lucky to happen to find this place as they had a last minute cancellation. The service, food and whisky tasting was brilliant. I very rarely give five star reviews becuase I feel the quality of resturant dining has been declining in the UK but this place was brilliant, I can't recommend enough - we had hagis and the burger and a whiskey flight and it really made our weekend so can't recommend this place higher.

Had a lovely meal with my daughter and granddaughter the service was great and the food was fabulous we were seated at the window so we had a lovely view over to the gardens and we could just sit and people watch great restaurant

Was disappointed as booked and didn’t realise we had to book set menu. I don’t agree with this added service charge but are made to feel awkward if you ask to take it off so basically had to pay £20 tip which I thought was really high as service was average!!!!

Our annual trip to Edinburgh always has a visit to the Whiski Rooms. Food is amazing.

Personally thought the restaurant is over rated . Seating was fairly uncomfortable. Food was OK...not something to rush back too...pricey but then it's centre Edinburgh

I had high hopes because of the online reviews but I am very sorry to say I was disappointed on many levels. Firstly, there was a certain amount of impatience with the wait staff - we were not on our phones or taking photos, we were just deciding on our meals. Secondly, when the meals came they were not of the quality I expected for the price, very small portions (and we did not take a starter as usually we cannot eat all three courses) - the Cranachan, which I asked about (as I know that some restaurants deconstruct it or do not actually make it to a traditional recipe, it is just all cream and a few raspberries) - and having asked was told it was traditional (it was advertised as such, oats and cream and berries), it was not traditional, it was cream with rasps on top. It was not pleasant to eat as there was no texture, just cream. How difficult would it have been to gently bake some oats and roll them in the cream? Thirdly, and lastly, the wait staff did not seem in the least interested in serving us. We sat for long periods waiting for service. We were stuck in a corner, next to the bar and as such could not be seen but if you are seated there then you should not be forgotten about.

considering the time of year, the restaurant was very quiet, if it hadn't have been for as Christmas party group in, there would have been very quiet evening - not the restaurants fault - Come on people, give this place a go, the food's great and the staff were fantastic

Underwhelming! The food lacked seasoning both the salmon and the pie. Barely any sauce with the salmon had to ask for more. But this didn’t really taste of anything. No salt and pepper on the table. £9 for sticky toffee pudding barely 2” square, cold...

Fantastic food and great service. Ambience was wonderful the view of the Christmas markets and lights from our window seat was amazing. Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience.
