Popped in for a gin. What a lovely drink in a lovely atmosphere with lovely hospitality. A wide array of drinks, including gin, wine and whiskys'. The food menu looked lovely with lots of Scottish favourites available, we will be back to try. Thank you so much ❣️

Highly recommended. The food was exquisite, the wine & whisky list extensive and the service from Hamish was absolutely spot on. We had the filo haggis parcels which were wonderful, the scallops were astoundingly good (and had a non-dairy variation which was much appreciated). The Fillet steak was perfectly cooked and the generous fries rounded the meal up nicely.

It’s difficult to get a booking in Edinburgh restaurants on a Friday night at the moment and so we were surprised to find a completely Empty restaurant. In fact we were the only table all night. The tables are decorated by vases with water but without any flowers . The staff were friendly and food very good ( in fact we had 3 absolutely perfectly cooked fillets) but it was evident the owner was not around or involved by the level of service we received. Coffee machine was “turned off” and no milk available post meal and cheese platter was served on saucers not plates. When ice was requested the waiter arrived with a scoop of ice in hand to serve directly into our glasses rather than provide a glass filled with ice. Small details but contribute to the overall experience and at the moment Stac polly feels like an unloved place.

Godson - an English student at Edinburgh University - had his 21st here in one of the larger cellar rooms back pre-COVID. Brilliant location for around 40 students in black tie and a handful of us adults. The place is well used to large groups and did us proud. Food, drinks all flowed and a great time was had by all. Afterwards there are lots of nearby late-night choices, including downstairs at the Little White Pig opposite.

Popped in to buy a Gift Viucher for an Anniversary present girl on the desk told me they don't do Gift Vouchers. very disappointed

Delicious food, delightful staff and entertaining host - what’s not to like - go if you can get a booking

If you enjoy eating in completely empty restaurants you will love this place. Booked a couple days after valentines Day, when we turned up we were literally the only people there. Thinking other customers may turn up we sat, had dinner. No other customers turned up. Very awkward, the staff had to pretend they were busy but we're clearing just f***ing about the the kitchen. As for the food. It was expensive and the prawns I had were frozen in the centre, I'd expect fresh for how much we paid.

Stac Polly is a true taste of Scotland! I love their traditional dishes. They have an exceptional wine list. Their Gin Garden is beautiful and fresh. They have friendly staff. Whenever my family visits from South Africa this is where I will take them to experience SCOTLAND!

Delighted to find Stac Polly are doing take-out food in lockdown. We had a lovely 3-course meal (the highlight was the cullen skink!). Very easy to order, pay and collect. I'll be telling everyone about them!

They say they're open for takeaway and the website says you can call to order,.but they don't reply. No reply or message on the phone. No idea what the food is like but the rest is lazy and misleading.

Just had delivery from this fabulous restaurant. Everything was perfect. Cullin Skink to die for. Beef with mushroom really, really good. Delivered on time. What more could you ask for at this time

What an amazing find with a warm and friendly atmosphere. Our host for the two nights ( we just had to go back for more) fulfilled our every request. My recommendation, of there is a group of you, have the large cheeseboard , extra oatcakes and dirty gin martini's. Spectacular and will be back for more on our next visit.

This was our last dinner spot in Edinburgh before we headed back to England and we had heard really good things online. These good things were confirmed as soon as we talked through the door and were greeted by Bruce, who looked after throughout the evening! My boyfriend and I ordered the salmon and crayfish starter and the haggis parcels in a red wine sauce and then lamb slow cooked in rioja with cous cous salad and dauphionois potatoes, all of which was absolutely stunning both in presentation and quality! The cheeseboard at the end was a perfect finish and Bruce couldn't have done more to make us feel more comfortable. Highly recommended here, we will be back when we next visit!

Disappointing visit after we had read good reviews. The food was mediocre at best. The moussaka was swimming in oil and the fish stew was lukewarm and was tasteless. The starters were absolutely average - just ok. It's a good thing we got 50% off from eat out to help out because I wouldn't have been happy to pay full price. They really need to up their game here. Will probably not be back.

Minutes walk from St Andrews Sq/Harvey Nicks etc... We stumbled upon this gem of a place.Bistro menu was very good, something for everyone. I had the goats cheese croquettes followed by the lamb (tender!) & chorizo, green beans (al dente) and the amazing sweet potato fries (gloriously crispy!) way too full for dessert but I’ll explore that end of the menu next time.Bruce looked after us so well, he was attentive without being annoying and topped up our water and wine (amazing Malbec!) without much prompting.We’ll definitely be back!

It was our first visit to Stac Polly, having passed it numerous times over the years and we will definitely be back. Our waiter, Bruce, provided some great recommendations and we both decided to go with the haggis - absolutely delicious and the best haggis we have ever had!! Wine was delicious and we enjoyed a couple of bottles with our group and did not feel rushed at all. Fab, friendly service. We are looking forward to our next visit.

Had drinks in the Gin Garden in the early evening. A great location really close to the centre of town but tucked away so a great place to chill out and relax. The waiters were really friendly and the service excellent. Really looking forward to going back again and will be recommending to friends.

This restaurant seems to be run on a shoe-string: there were only two young, inexperienced waiters working on the evening we were eating. One of them told us that there was only one chef working that evening, when there should have been four. The food was at best bland: the risotto was not seasoned and there was no salt available to remedy this. The venison stew was average. Two of the wine glasses had not been cleaned properly – lipstick marks were still evident. When we informed on of the waiters he removed them without apology. Then we had to ask for them to be replaced. Perhaps we ate in this restaurant on a bad night? But I wouldn’t eat here again especially as there are so many better restaurants very nearby.

Beautiful little French restaurant serving food with a touch of Scotland. Cosy and intimate with very friendly staff. The food was delicious and at a good price too. The filo pastry with haggis was particularly tasty.

We ordered from Stac Polly for my birthday and it was great! I hadn't been to the restaurant before but the take away came right on time and the food was exactly what I'd been hoping for. We'll be stopping by once the restaurant is open again!

Stac Polly delivered a 3 course meal right to our door, bang on time. Delicious food and a very decent bottle of Merlot. Starter of filo haggis was excellent as was the lamb casserole. The highlight was the amazing cheesecake dessert - superb! Thank you Stac Polly - a great Anniversary treat!

Was taken here by my husband as a surprise last night. We had been wanting to go for ages now. It was rather disappointing though - service from the waiter was mediocre, especially when we commented that one of the courses wasn't nice, no apology, he just walked away ? Inside downstairs is beautiful, except the very dusty, chintzy, artificial arrangements on the tables - surely one real flower per table would be more in keeping. If not then at least keep the present ones clean. All the courses looked impressive on the plates. Starters were fab - I had the Trout and hubby had the Scallops. Mains not so much - my Pheasant was dry and tough, like it had been cooked then reheated, the Jus was also dried onto the plate round the edges. Hubby's filet was ok, but have had better. We shared the pineapple dessert - very ordinary and boring - a thick slice of warmed pineapple, with a sauce and some ice cream - not worth the money. Wine was very good. Service was like being in a fast food place, NO time between courses. Hubby had kept some bread on his side plate to have after/with dessert (bit odd but his choice) and this was just cleared away after the main course, without him being asked if he still wanted it - he only noticed once it was gone = fast food !. £100 later, and only because they didn't charge for the Pheasant £27 (still no apology), and we won't be recommending it or be back. Just to add that there were only 6 other diners there with us, so 8 in total - peak time on a Saturday night - says a lot.

Finalmente apareció alguien que era lo suficientemente alegre, así que tomamos una copa, pero el bar en sí no es nada especial.Bajamos al restaurante a través de una escalera alfombrada de color marrón raído para encontrar y una variedad de camareros dando vueltas, pero nadie parecía estar a cargo.Nuestra mesa estaba bien, la habitación estaba bien, pero todo el lugar está cansado y necesita urgentemente una reforma.El personal no estaba seguro de lo que estaba pasando, nos pidió que tomáramos nuestros pedidos dos veces como también lo hicieron con la mesa de al lado.La comida estaba bien, los entrantes eran un poco frescos pero en general bien.No es lo suficientemente bueno para un restaurante que cobra hasta 31 por platos principales.Bill llegó con un 10% de cargo por servicio ya agregado. . .No es un lugar que pueda recomendar cuando hay tantos otros lugares para elegir.

Food was excellent. Service great. We had a fire at our table and someone used their glass wine to put it out and they would not replace his wine.

We also visited Stac Polly in Edinburgh on night 12 of our 15 day tour. While I found the food to be good, it was not exceptional and there were a number of issues.There were 38 if us squeezed into a room and the waiters bumped into those in the center aisle every time they walked by. The room was very noisy.Napkins were thin and flimsy, much like tissue paper. I'd expect cloth napkins at a restaurant of this caliber.They brought bread to the table. It was a sliced french bread stick, it was soft and tasted ok, but they only brought enough for 1 slice per person and we had to request more bread, twice (maybe the waiter didn't hear or ignored request first time).The pepper soup was good but there was not a lot of it. As you'll see, small portions are the way this restaurant works.I ordered the lamb, it came with green beans and potato. The food was good, it was not exceptional, and the portion was small. Perhaps 100g of lamb.My companion ordered the salmon, it came with pasta and 2 tiny pea pods. The salmon was cooked well and tasty; the pasta was starchy and only average tasting. Not enough pea pod to have an opinion.Dessert was cheesecake with defrosted frozen berries. It was good but I doubt that they could have sliced it any thinner. The berries looked like different types but all tasted the same.They waited until we had finished the cheesecake dessert before bringing coffee and tea. The cups were half full. I had the coffee it was unremarkable, tasted like freeze dried coffee. I had to ask for a full cup of coffee and wait for it to come.Service was slow and at times disorganized.I left the restaurant feeling that I needed to have another meal as I was not full.Bottom line, I will not revisit this restaurant and cannot recommend it to others.

Organizamos la fiesta de cumpleaños en la calle 21 de nuestro hijo para 45 personas en Stac Polly. Funcionó perfectamente. Tomamos unas copas arriba y cenamos abajo, en nuestra habitación.La comida era deliciosa. Un interesante y excelente menú con un toque escocés. Recomiendo encarecidamente las parcelas haggis con ciruela y coulis de vino tinto. El propietario, Mark, y su personal fueron muy atentos. Las bodegas de paredes de piedra en bruto proporcionan un entorno maravilloso para una ocasión especial.

We had a bit of a crisis on entering. Nobody around to greet us, and it appeared we had go down some stairs. My wife took exception, look how dirty these stairs are, i dont want to eat here, and it look a lot of persuasion to get her downstairs. There is a nice ambiance, and good table settings, but the menu was very short, and the restaurant noisy. There appeared to be only one staff member serving, no apparent host of any nature. The server was basically untrained. And as far as the food was concerned - it was only Ok, nothing memorable

We booked a table at this city centre restaurant to celebrate our wedding anniversary recently. On arrival we were shown to the downstairs dining room, where we were surprised to see that we were the only diners. The waiter assured us more people were expected. The menu was not bad, with a good choice of dishes. The food we ordered wasn't terrible, but the lamb I had had sinew right through it, which made cutting it difficult. By the time we had finished our dinner and bottle of wine, we were still the only diners. Not the anniversary celebration we had hoped for.

On 12th night of a 15 day bus tour and this is best dinner of them all. Starter was a red pepper soup.. main course was a simply but perfectly prepared rump of lamb ... Green beans... Lyonnaise potatoes with wonderful gravy. Dessert was a small but perfect slice of delicate cheese cake an seasonal berry sauce.

The best meal I've had since I arrived from across the pond. Everything was well seasoned and cooked to perfection.

Great traditional hidden gem, if you are staying close by i recommend it strongly! Presentation is also top notch! At first when you walk in you might be confused because there is nobody upstairs, but don’t be afraid to go downstairs:)

Amazing food and really accommodating. We booked a table quite late on a quiet Thursday night, and our friends ended up running half an hour late. The waiter was incredibly kind about it and showed no sign of irritation at us keeping him at work longer than expected. Food and wine were exceptional and we are already planning the next visit.

I was on tour six months ago and had dinner here. We were a large group that was well accommodated. Food was delicious, wine was good, service was great. Atmosphere was just right. We were placed in a room that was pleasant and quiet enough to allow members of the group to get to know each other better. My first trip to Scotland. Very pleasant, gladly met the kind and cheerful people of Edinburgh. Thank you!

We had a wonderful evening at Stac Polly. The food was the best we’ve had in Edinburgh! The staff were attentive and helpful. We will go back and will happily recommend it to all our friends.

Tuve el plato de mariscos y el anfitrión (no estoy seguro de si el gerente o el dueño) me preguntaron amablemente si me gustaría que me dijera qué había en el plato, cosa que hizo. ¡Este tiene que ser el mejor entrante que he tenido y si no hubiera estado en un restaurante, hubiera elegido el plato limpio! ! Mi principal era filete de ternera medio raro y cocinado a la perfección. Maravillosamente tierna y el jus fue sublime. Mi única crítica es que un poco de jus adicional habría sido un placer solo porque me encantó tanto: -) Tuve un vaso de blanco con entrante y un vaso de un delicioso rojo con principal - la mejor manera de hacerlo: -). Volveré por más : - )

Once again we traveled to Edinburgh, this time as guides. Stay Poly is our favorite restaurant there, perhaps anywhere and this visit was on par. Reservations a few days in advance, our table was ready for us early. We had the pheasant, lamb and Angus beaf, all excellent and prepared precisely. I had a glass of Graf von Schonborn Riesling, prob one of the best Rieslings ever. We also all had desert and finished with Macallan double cask whisky. A perfect evening, looking forward to our return. Very highly recommend!

Was skeptical as we walked in. There were 44 in the group, seating was tight. The service was efficient and courteous. Portions were generous. The food was excellent! Would recommend this restaurant to anyone going to Edinburgh. It is not in a tourist area, even though they have the room to cater to groups.

Comimos en Stac Polly en nuestra primera noche en Edimburgo. Fuimos los únicos clientes en el restaurante hasta tarde cuando llegó otra pareja. Pedimos una comida ligera y escogimos hongos silvestres y sopa de trufa blanca seguidos de un plato de vieira de tamaño de plato principal. Ambos eran muy buenos. También disfrutamos de una ginebra botánica especial y un whisky.

Food was fantastic! My gripe was from the staff and the menu. Ordered a drink and was informed you don't sell it, even though it was on the menu. Turns out it was an old menu! I then ordered a different drink later on from the "new" menu and it was out of stock. Ordered a desert to share which should have included a rhubarb ice cream and it turned up with vanilla. After asking about this we were told this was not available, however in their they didn't charge us for the desert (we didn't eat it). When spending around £300 for a small table you don't expect this sort of nonsence and if something isn't available you should be informed when ordering it. Also the attitude of the staff when giving this criticism was disgusting. We paid with card and had left a cash tip on the table. After the way the situation was handled we took the tip back. 10/10 for food but front of house can't seem to get the basics right, re-train or replace.

My friends arrived at 6 and had already eaten when I got there at 7, the menu arrived and I made a choice, cutlery arrived but no napkin, it wasn't my idea of rack of lamb, more like 3 lamb chops on a pile of vegetables. Still no napkin or sign of staff, so I took one from the next table, my friend informed me they had done the same thing. A mediocre meal perhaps a pudding might cheer me up. With a list of 4 desserts at £8.25 each I declined perhaps the prices were the reason they only had us and one more table all night, would I go again no is the answer.

Booked a table after reading online menus for various restaurants in Edinburgh. We wanted good, well cooked food which wasn’t overly complicated. We also wanted to book off a real menu and not a sample menu so Stac Polly appreared to meet our requirements. We couldn’t book a table at the exact time we required but as we were booking 3 weeks in advance we took this as a positive and assumed this was due to popularity. Surprisingly when we turned up, it was at least half empty. We ordered drinks but had to wait for them. The larger table ordering multiple wine bottles after us were served quicker. The food was average and the service unimpressive. Despite empty glasses we had to request further drinks. No one checked if our meals were to our requirements (they weren’t, the lamb was not medium as was suggested) but they still stuck a 10% service charge on the bill. We’ve eaten all over the world and I’ve never had an unmentioned service charge placed on a table for two previously. I’ll gladly tip for good service but to have it imposed without prior notice feels like an underhanded method to increase the income of an average (at best) restaurant. I won’t visit Stac Polly again and I’d be surprised if it’s still in existence on my next visit to Edinburgh.

Hidden away on Dublin Street in a very residential area we found the food wonderful and the service spot on. It was a weekday so no worries about a crowd at all, but I would suggest reservations as it is very small. Located down a flight of stairs to the right of the bar upon entry it was a delight, especially the haggis , served in a crisp fortune cookie type pastry, not to be missed, my all time favorite!!! The lamb chops were super!!!

We visited the Restaurant on a Saturday evening having taken the precaution of booking in advance. We were glad that we did as it quickly got very busy indeed. The staff were attentive and service surprisingly quick. We thought that the Wine list and Menu were not that extensive. However, what was on offer proved very tasty and filling. The design of the Restaurant on the ground floor and basement of a building was interesting if a little quirky. It may not be suitable for those unable to easily negotiate the stairs and corridors but is well worth a visit. Weeks later we still talk about the quality of the food we ate!

My favourite fine dining restaurant in Edinburgh for traditional Scottish food served with flair. Great atmosphere and wonderful food. Regularly take overseas guests there. Never disappointed.

Great food in a good environment. However, not unique or special enough to quite justify the price in our mind. Nice modern take on Scottish fair with good service.

We had dinner here on our first night in Edinburgh. It is a bit hard to find but well worth it when we arrived. Service was intimate and excellent. Food was first rate. They gave us a Scotch tasting and then wine with dinner. Reasonable prices and very enjoyable dinner. Would make it a definite if I were back in this town.

Locale leggermente decentrato (10-15 min. tranquillissimi di passeggiata in discesa dal royal mile), ma proprio per questo ancora più consigliato. Bellissimi interni, personale accogliente, menù non molto vario ma super curato e allettante. Composizione dei piatti elegante, ottime materie prime e gusto. Buonissimo il filetto di manzo, il soufflé al formaggio di pecora e il finto pudding ai frutti rossi. La sera calcolate (meritatissimi) 50 € a testa. 10% di servizio incluso nel conto.

Trovato grazie alla guida turistica Tripadvisor della Gazzetta dello Sport, questo ristorante merita proprio di essere provato. Cucina Scozzese, grande varietà di vini del mondo (io ho provato un vino cileno fantastico) e nutrita carta dei wisky. Abbiamo mangiato capesante, Salmone ed Angus. Tutto perfetto. Abbiamo speso sui 50 euro a testa.

Took some visitors to Edinburgh here and we were all delighted with the quality of the food, the very friendly staff and the whole experience. Scottish food at its best in an atmospheric setting. Full marks!

El camarero era tranquila y no hacer preguntas así que cuando llegó nos nunca principales te acercan una vez en cuanto a preguntar cómo nuestra comida fue y me senté con un vaso vacío todo el campo. La comida era "bueno" mi pato era preciosa y tierna pero absolutamente NO vale la pena el precio. Fue muy comida normal. Tuvimos la intención de tener postre y saltamos como estábamos tan completamente diasspointed. Pedimos la factura. De nuevo, el camarero no hablaba una palabra entera toda la transacción que, aquí es el mejor! Cuando se cobran las propinas sin avisarnos antes es absolutamente chocante! Nunca he estado en ningún sitio donde una mesa de 2 personas conseguir propinas. El servicio de nuestro camarero no reflejan el precio. Así que por dos entrantes y dos platos principales dos bebidas llegó a £91! Sabíamos los precios antes comimos allí, pero el precio de las bebidas y luego más de £10.00 esperando era simplemente la guinda en una media tarta rancio. Muchos otros lugares que son mundos mejores en Edimburgo sin el pretencioso precio. De hecho comimos una comida hermosa la siguiente noche, completamente preciosa y contundente por la mitad del precio en el centro de la ciudad, así que puede ser hecho.

Delicious food and nice service...

We popped in here for a quick gin and ended up staying for a few as they were incredibly tasty and the host is a genuinely top bloke. We didn't eat but the owner let us sit in the dining area when it got too hot on the terrace outside. It's a really nice place. I tried the Lavender and Echinacea gin first and Flemming had the Rose gin - then I had the Rose and Flemming had the Chamomile and cornflower. Best gins ever! Really cool little place. Will always return when in Edinburgh. The menu was very meaty - so will only go for the gins :-)

Great location for a sunny afternoon. Chilled atmosphere with pleasant background music, great service and a lovely range of gins. Didn't eat but took a look at the menu which was lovely didn't seem overpriced. We will be back to check it out.

Tasty food, nice atmosphere a little pricy though

Este es un excelente restaurante que es florido bajo su nueva dirección. El menú es relativamente corto, pero perfecto, con platos muy bien presentado y algunas variantes - el entrante imaginativa haggis era especialmente bueno. La lista de vinos es también considerado con algunos muy buena selección.

The food was amazing, service was on point and the atmosphere was faultless. One of my favourite restaurants in Edinburgh. Would definitely recommend and will definitely be returning.

We were staying at the Balmoral and this restaurant was highly recommended to us by the Concierge. We were extremely pleased by the ambiance, food, service and wine selection. I had the Scottish game trio, chicory tarts and wood pigeon breast for my first three courses and all were top-drawer. For my main course I had the lamb which was incredibly tender and perfectly seasoned. My husband had the pheasant breast which he absolutely loved.

We really enjoyed a fantastic meal in a lovely setting. The food couldn’t be faulted. The lamb shank dish was superb. A very comfortable setting with a good atmosphere and superb service. The new outside space will be excellent in the Summer. Well worth a visit.

Wonderful first meal on our brief trip to Edinburgh. A cozy dining space on the ground floor welcomed us to a charming little table. For the first course we had the pheasant and he haggis which were both outstanding. Mains consisted of their generously portioned lamb shank and the sea bass. The sticky toffee pudding looked and sounded so good that we refused to share it and each got our own. Reasonably priced glasses of wine and whiskey were also fantastic. Our server provided excellent recommendations and was a warm and gracious host. If you’re ever looking for a sensibly prices upscale meal in Edinburgh this is a must visit. For two people each having two drinks, a first, a main, and a dessert the bill came to £128 with the service charge.

We went for dinner not so long ago and the staff were pleasant and the meal very nice but a little bit expensive ,we used the groupon offer and enjoyed the experience.Only one down side was it is so cold in dining room but think the problem is because it is down stars below ground level,such a pity.

We went for the pre Calcutta Cup lunch. Excellent food, private dining and very attentive service made for an excellent experience and a good start to the afternoon. Not the cheapest place you’ll ever have lunch but certainly good value for money.

Llevé a un grupo de 10 personas a comer antes de la Copa Calcuta y nos sirvieron una comida fabulosa. El servicio era excepcional desde todo el mundo que conocimos y todo el grupo disfrutamos de un ambiente especial y excepcional de bienvenida. Totalmente recomendado.

We received a gift voucher for a three course meal at stac polly from a friend. I had a tartlet and caramelised onion starter, which was very full of flavour. Main meal of beef and black pudding which was cooked to perfection. Gin and tonic cheese cake with lime sorbet ( I can still taste it). Would highly recommend a visit to stac polly.

Probé este bien establecido, pero recientemente ha cambiado de dirección (octubre de 2017) restaurante por primera vez para la cena desde 2004. Tenía la cena de 3 platos más café. El menú era enorme y fue difícil elegir debido a la colección de platos deliciosos. La pechuga de faisán era preciosa y era un entrante. Principales era una pierna de cordero con verduras y una deliciosa jous sabroso. Una fina selección de quesos escoceses asuntos remató y un café terminó lo que fue una comida deliciosa. Mi pareja tuvo el plato principal de pescado y también comentó sobre los diferentes sabores y agradable. Aunque éste puede no ser el más barato de la ciudad local a mediados de Edimburgo para comer en el ambiente y las opciones de menú de cocina muy bien cocinados eran muy impresionantes. El nuevo propietario Mike Galloway para asegurar que tendrá un Stac Polly espléndido futuro bajo su supervisión. Mi respuesta a su pregunta de qué pensaba de la comida era. . . . ¡Guau!

Nice food but too pricey for what you get.

Visited after being gifted a Groupon voucher and was very impressed with the menu. Flavour combinations made the dishes very enjoyable. The pheasant main was really good and the sauce we lovely. Restaurant was a bit on the chilly side. Would recommend.
